Coleman’s press conference was streamed over the internet. Journalists in attendance were presented with the squad sheet for the double-header. Coleman in great spirits at the squad announcement. Wales manager Chris Coleman announced his squad for the Bosnia-Herzegovina and Cyprus European Championship qualifiers at the Evans Halshaw Vauxhall dealership in Cardiff. Both fixtures will take place in Wales at the Cardiff City Stadium and Coleman was in attendance to promote the fixture and reveal the 26 players in contention to feature in the double-header. The former Fulham and Real Sociedad boss carried out a press conference at Evans Halshaw and expressed the importance of the home matches. He said: “These are two massive games for us, two of the most important home matches in recent years. 2 “We have a great opportunity of laying down a firm foundation in this qualifying campaign before our trip to Belgium in November. “I hope the Wales supporters, who have always given us great backing, come out in their thousands and create a tremendous atmosphere in Cardiff for both games.” After taking questions from the journalists in attendance, Coleman posed for photos at Evans Halshaw. The dealership has hosted the squad announcement for the first two sets of Wales’ European Championship fixtures. For more information, visit vauxhallfootball.co.uk. VIDEO DIARIES RETURN TO THE WALES CAMP Wales fans will once again get to take an exclusive look behind-the-scenes at the squad’s training camp thanks to Vauxhall, the sponsor of Home Nations football. During the last international week, Reading defender Chris Gunter delivered an entertaining series of videos in the build-up to the Euro 2016 qualifying campaign opener with Andorra. Gunter’s videos gave viewers a look at his relationship with his teammates – and their beards – and how they prepared for the away fixture. The former Cardiff City, Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest right-back also took the Go Pro camera onto the training pitch and to the media session for some interesting poses. Gunter’s diaries can be watched on Vauxhall Football TV. On this occasion, Crystal Palace midfielder Jonathan Williams, who is currently on loan at Ipswich Town, will be having a go at documenting the preparations for the Bosnia-Herzegovina and Cyprus double-header. Always unpredictable, there will no doubt be a few cameos from his teammates so make sure you check out the latest videos on Vauxhall Football. Vauxhall will be providing video diaries across all four Home Nations teams during the international week. For all the latest videos subscribe to the Vauxhall Football YouTube channel by visiting youtube.com/vauxhallfootballtv. What will Jonathan Williams get up to in his video diaries? We need to get the points from that game first, before we start to consider the Cyprus match. “This is a really open group, but we need to take points off Bosnia, especially after their opening defeat, but Israel and Cyprus will no doubt feel the same way.” There are six uncapped players in the squad: goalkeepers Kyle Letheren and Owain Fon Williams, defender Rhoys Wiggins, midfielder Lee Evans and forwards Jake Taylor and Tom Lawrence. The most capped player in the squad is Chris Gunter with 54 appearances. Joe Allen will miss out through injury. Aaron Ramsey has been ruled out of the fixtures. 5 DID YOU KNOW? VAUXHALL TEASER Wales boss Chris Coleman has won more games than any other of the country’s bosses since John Toshack. Of the current Wales international squad Chris Gunter, of Reading, is the most capped player with 54, with fellow defender, Wolves’ Sam Ricketts, and midfielder Joe Ledley, of Crystal Palace, two behind. If Danny Gabbidon features in either game, he will make his 50th appearance for the Principality. Wales have met Bosnia-Herzegovina just twice before. In a friendly at the Millennium Stadium in February 2003, it ended in a 2-2 stalemate with Rob Earnshaw and John Hartson scoring for the home nation. Matt Jones made the 12th of 13 appearances for Wales in that game. In 2012, Wales manager Chris Coleman lost his first home game in charge as a goal in each half gave Bosnia-Herzegovina a comfortable win in Llanelli with Miroslav Stevanovic scoring twice. Danny Gabbidon could make his 50th appearance for Wales. 1 Gareth Bale has 14 goals for Wales. He is the second youngest player to feature for Southampton. Who is the youngest? 2 3 Danny Gabbidon is one game away from 50 for Wales. Where was he born? Which club is former Wales manager John Toshack now the manager? Miroslav Stevanovic You can find the answers on page 16. Wales have faced the Cypriots five times previously, winning three and losing two. In the first clash, a World Cup qualifier, Mark Hughes struck the winner in Limassol. In the return, Wales won 2-0 with Dean Saunders and Ian Rush the scorers. The next meeting came in a friendly in the Tsirion Stadium in Limassol and a first-half penalty from Chrysis Michael earned the Cypriots a win. In 2006, in a European Championship qualifier, Wales beat Cyprus in Cardiff to claim their first points of the Euro 2008 Group D qualifiers. Jason Koumas struck first after 33 minutes and Robert Earnshaw converted Craig Bellamy’s cross to double the lead seven minutes later. Bellamy added a third on 72 minutes. But Yiannis Okkas denied Wales a clean sheet with superb lob late on. In the return, Wales lost in Nicosia. James Collins side-footed a Gareth Bale free-kick. But Cyprus hit back with three goals after half-time. Yiannis Okkas claimed two close-range goals, while a Konstantinos Charalampidis header finished Wales off. This is the first competitive game between Wales and Bosnia-Herzegovina but the nations have met twice in friendlies. The first clash was in February 2003 at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, followed by a game in Llanelli. Wales extended their unbeaten run to nine matches to set a new national record, but had to come from behind twice against Bosnia-Herzegovina to do it. Elvir Baljic claimed the opener for the visitors after five minutes, only for Cardiff striker Robert Earnshaw to equalise almost immediately. Bosnia-Herzegovina took the lead again in the second half through Sergej Barbaraz. But John Hartson’s third goal in four internationals rescued Wales to claim a piece of history, the country’s best ever sequence in their 127-year history. And in 2012, Wales manager Chris Coleman lost his first home game in charge as a goal in each half gave Bosnia-Herzegovina a comfortable win in Llanelli with Miroslav Stevanovic scoring twice. 2003 Wales 2 Bosnia-Herzegovina 2 Friendly, Cardiff 2012 Wales 0 Bosnia-Herzegovina 2 Friendly, Llanelli P W D L F A Friendlies 2 0 1 1 2 4 Total 2 0 1 1 2 4 1992 Cyprus 0 Wales 1 1993 Wales 2 Cyprus 0 WCQ, Limassol WCQ, Cardiff 2005 Cyprus 1 Wales 0 Friendly, Limassol 2006 Wales 3 Cyprus 1 ECQ, Cardiff 2007 Cyprus 3 Wales 1 ECQ, Nicosia P W D L F A WCQ 2 2 0 0 3 0 ECQ 2 1 0 1 4 4 Friendlies 1 0 0 1 0 1 Total 5 3 0 2 7 5 Cyprus’ Michael Morphis is powerless to stop Jason Koumas’ effort in 2006. 7 LAST TEN GAMES WALES DATE OPPONENTS VENUE March 26, 2013 v Croatia (WCQ, Swansea) RESULT Lost 1-2 August 14, 2013 v Republic of Ireland (Friendly, Cardiff) Drew 0-0 September 6, 2013 v Macedonia (WCQ, Skopje) Lost 1-2 September 10, 2013 v Serbia (WCQ, Cardiff) Lost 0-3 October 11, 2013 v Macedonia (WCQ, Cardiff) Won 1-0 October 15, 2013 v Belgium (WCQ, Brussels) Drew 1-1 November 15, 2013 v Finland (Friendly, Cardiff) Drew 1-1 March 5, 2014 v Iceland (Friendly, Cardiff) Won 3-1 June 4, 2014 v Holland (Friendly, Amsterdam) Lost 0-2 September 9, 2014 v Andorra (Andorra La Vella) Won 2-1 BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA DATE OPPONENTS VENUE RESULT March 5, 2014 v Egypt (Friendly, Tivoli) Lost 0-2 May 22, 2014 v Bosnia-Herzegovina Under-21s (Friendly, Gradacac) Won 5-0 May 30, 2014 v Ivory Coast (Friendly, St Louis) Won 2-1 June 3, 2014 v Mexico (Friendly, Chicago) Won 1-0 June 9, 2014 v Santos Under-21s (Friendly, Guaruja) Won 5-1 June 15, 2014 v Argentina (WCF, Rio de Janeiro) Lost 1-2 June 21, 2014 v Nigeria (WCF, Cuiaba) Lost 0-1 June 25, 2014 v Iran (WCF, Salvador) Won 3-1 September 4, 2014 v Liechtenstein (Friendly, Tuzla) Won 3-0 September 9, 2014 v Cyprus (ECQ, Zenica) Lost 1-2 CYPRUS 8 DATE OPPONENTS VENUE RESULT March 23, 2013 v Switzerland (WCQ, Nicosia) Drew 0-0 June 8, 2013 v Switzerland (WCQ, Geneva) Lost 0-1 September 6, 2013 v Norway (WCQ, Oslo) Lost 0-2 September 10, 2013 v Slovenia (WVQ, Nicosia) Lost 0-2 October 11, 2013 v Iceland (WCQ, Reykjavik) Lost 0-2 October 15, 2013 v Albania (WCQ, Nicosia) Drew 0-0 March 5, 2014 v Northern Ireland (Friendly, Nicosia) Drew 0-0 May 27, 2014 v Japan (Friendly, Saitama) Lost 0-1 September 4, 2014 v Croatia (Friendly, Pula) Lost 0-2 September 9, 2014 v Bosnia-Herzegovina (ECQ, Zenica) Won 2-1 FIXTURES WALES DATE OPPONENTS VENUE November 16, 2014 v Belgium (Brussels) March 28, 2015 v Israel (Ramat Gan) June 12, 2015 v Belgium (Cardiff) September 3, 2015 v Cyprus (Nicosia) September 6, 2015 v Israel (Cardiff) October 10, 2015 v Bosnia-Herzegovina (Zenica) October 13, 2015 v Andorra (Cardiff) BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA DATE OPPONENTS VENUE October 13, 2014 v Belgium (Zenica) November 16, 2014 v Israel (TBC) March 28, 2015 v Andorra (TBC) June 12, 2015 v Israel (TBC) CYPRUS DATE OPPONENTS VENUE November 16, 2014 v Cyprus (TBC) March 28, 2015 v Belgium (TBC) June 12, 2015 v Andorra (TBC) Wales will play both games at the Cardiff City Stadium. The Swansea-born former central defender won schoolboy caps for Wales and was signed by Manchester City, though his stay was short. Swansea City then signed him as a 17 year-old and he was to make almost 200 appearances for the club, helping them to win the Welsh Cup twice. He moved to Crystal Palace in 1991 for £250,000 and during his time at Selhurst Park, he won the first of his 32 senior Caps for Wales after six under-18 and three under-21 Caps. After more than 150 first team appearances, Chris moved to Blackburn Rovers, the then Premier League Champions, for £2.8 million, in 1995. In 1997 he joined Fulham for £2 million and he was soon made club Captain. His career was rejuvenated at Craven Cottage, but sadly a car crash in 2001 put paid to his playing days as he was unable to fully recover from the leg injuries received. He made a final emotional appearance for Wales, coming on as a last minute substitute against Germany in a friendly in 2002. He was given the chance to join the coaching staff at Fulham and acted as caretaker manager in 2003 before being given the job permanently - making him the youngest ever Premier League Manager. After a promising first season when the team finished ninth, the second was harder and Chris left in 2007. He then had a short spell in Spain at Real Sociedad before resigning in 2008. His next club was Coventry City in 2008 where he stayed for two years. Last year he had a short spell with Larissa in Greece, but this ended in January 2012 when he left the club before becoming Wales’ manager. He finished the World Cup qualifiers with a win, against Macedonia, and a draw in Brussels against Belgium. 12 BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA: SAFET SUSIC Susic, 57, was voted Paris St-Germain’s best player of all time by readers of France Football. Susic began his coaching career in France, with Cannes, in 1994. Between 1997–1999, he managed Istanbulspor, returning to that country during 2003–04, with Konyaspor, and in the first half of 2006–07, taking charge of Caykur Rizespor. After he was sacked by Rizespor in February 2008, Sušic joined Ankaraspor in March. On December 28, 2009, Susic was named coach of Bosnia and Herzegovina. CYPRUS: PAMBOS CHRISTODOULOU Christodoulou took his first managerial appointment with. Doxa got promoted finishing third. He then moved to Olympiakos Nicosia, a club he represented as a player, before joining AEL Limassol. He won the Cypriot championship and lost in the final of the Cyprus Cup. On January 9, 2014, Christodoulou was appointed by the Cyprus Football Association as the new national team coach for the European Championship of 2016.
