Santa’s Visit
Following Elaine Beattie’s grace, children of all ages were overjoyed to
witness the appearance of Rotary Santa. Trading in his usual gruff self for
a more kindly persona, Rotary Santa took to the stage where he greeted the
children and handed each a special gift. Santa then toured the room and
handed out candy canes to all the good Rotarians, and not a single lump
of coal. (Seemingly there were no naughty Rotarians present.)
Program — Christmas Message
Dave Ralph delivered a special, and very poignant Christmas message entitled “The Promise of Peace”. Below are some highlights of his message:
“Peace or shalom is so critical to our overall wellbeing. One of the
wisest men who ever lives wrote: “a heart at peace gives life to the
whole body.” When I have peace at the core of who I am, it influences everything else in life.
“As we approach Christmas 2013, I believe the best way to “glorify
God” is to develop a heart of gratitude. There is a connection between
gratitude and glory, it is about learning to be grateful, it is pausing
long enough to be grateful for all the blessings we have and enjoy.
“Maybe as you drive away today, you might mentally make a list of

all the blessings you have. Maybe you will write
them down at some point, maybe as you get up

on Christmas morning, you will utter the words
“thank you.” What will flow out of that attitude
of gratitude is that God will be glorified – and
you might find a little bit more of that promise
being your experience this Christmas,
“This Christmas, may you be closer than ever
to the blessings of joy and the promise of
peace.”
Christmas Carols
Mary DuQuesnay led Rotarians in the singing of
traditional Christmas carols including “O Holy
Night.” The rest of the Club joined Mary in singing “We wish you a Merry Christmas.”
Final Remarks
President Jim then closed the meeting with thanks
to the Fellowship Committee for putting this program together and wishing everyone a safe drive
home and all the best during the holiday season.
