Not only does Kuala Lumpur has many famous shopping arcades, but also has famous rainforest and countryside that we have visited. As we are living in a fast-paced city, we feel pleasurable to indulge in the tranquil countryside. The trip to Kuala Lumpur had provided a chance for us to appreciate its stunning architecture and cityscape. The diversity of Kuala Lumpur, the unique culture and the friendliness of Malaysian made our journey memorable. In this report, we are going to introduce the places we had visited and express our feelings after the trip. 3 Reflection: Day 1 Masjid Negara After we had arrived Kuala Lumpur, we first went to Masjid Negara. It was a Mosque with beautiful design. It was one of the largest mosques in Southeast Asia with the capacity of 15,000 people and it really made us impress. Besides, there were food court and a small local market outside Masjid Negara. In the food court, we tried a variety of traditional food such as Laska and Teh Tarik. In the local market, we bought some souvenirs like postcards of the famous spots in Kuala Lumpur and key rings which had the feature of Kuala Lumpur. Masjid Negara was a beautiful and wonderful architecture and was the most sacred building that reflects the devotion of Allah. As we were not Muslims, we could not enter the Masjid Negara. However, the view of Masjid Negara was really great which we enjoyed very much. The Mosque was amazing and it was beautifully presented. Masjid Negara, one of the landmarks in Kuala Lumpur .It had modern design that shows the traditional art of ‘Waslam’.visitors can make a pray in order to find ‘A peace of mind’. Besides, It also shows the cultural diversity of Kuala Lumpur. It was important to show our respect to local culture and value when we were staying in foreign countries. For example, people in Kuala Lumpur should ensure that they had dressed modestly .Their arms and legs should be covered when they were entering the Mosque. Although we might had cultural differences, we should try our best to adapt to them. In addition, we should also learn more from different cultures. After visiting Masjid Negara, we understand more on the culture of Malaysia which 4 we were not quite familiar before . Photos 5 Petronas Twin Towers Petronas Twin Towers was skyscraper which was one of the world’s tallest skyscrapers. However, it was still the world’s tallest twin towers building. It was the world’s fifth tallest building which was 452 meters tall with 88 ground of floors in total. The appearance of the building was designed by an American architect, West Perry in extensive use of stainless steel and other materials. The Twin Towers was located at the ‘heart’ of Kuala Lumpur, it was a 452m height building with the two separated towers. What was more, it had been one of the highest buildings in the world a century in the past. The Twin Towers had a very prominent and modern design which attracts people’s attention easily. The most notable part was the shape of the Twin Towers, it had completely show the construction style of Malaysia. Although we did not get into the tower, we were honored because we could take photos in front of this amazing landmark in Malaysia. It was certainly a memorable moment for us. There was also an art gallery that shows the literature of Kuala Lumpur too. We had learnt more on culture of Malaysia and also enhance some special and interesting knowledge. Besides, experience in this trip was valuable for us too. Photos 6 7 Reflection: Day 2 Batu Caves The attractive parts of Batu cave were the Indian culture, temples and the monkeys. We thought climb up the steps was an arduous journey which was requires perseverance. The view over the horizon along the up way was really great.. Since there were a lot of monkeys in the cave, we had to be aware of them and must keep eyes on our personal belongings. The tour guide had explain the history background and relevant information about the cave. It was an awesome experience. We were look forward tovisit the Batu Caves for a long time as the spectacular golden status attracted us. The status was great and gorgeous. To reach Batu Caves, we must climb a steep flight of 272 steps of stairs. Before challenging the 272-steps stairs up to the Batu Cave, we took a deep breathe. It was a tough task, as the steps were steep and oddly spaced. Besides, along the way, we had to run across playful macaque monkeys. The Batu Caves offered the chance for us to learn about the stories and deeds of the Hindu gods and culture. In Hong Kong, it was not difficult for the Believers to worship their gods, but in Malaysia, it was a totally different case. Some of them might need to climb up 272 steps of stairs every day. We saw that not only should we learn the perseverance from them, but also the sincerity that they shown. 8 Photos 9 I-City Next, we went to the famous spot ‘i-City’. When night fell, i-City’s beautiful nightscape with over 1 million LED lights will lighted up. The place comes alive with an amazing forest full of man-made trees brightly illuminated with LED lights cape. It was amazing when we saw the scene. The view was particular stunning. It was a great opportunity to explore the nightscape in Kuala Lumpur. Comparing with Hong Kong’s nightscape, nightscape in Kuala Lumpur was much more gorgeous. We think it was a unique place and worth exploring. Since we seldom visit the nightscape of Hong Kong, our group plan to visit the nightscape in Hong Kong soon. Then, we can have a comparison between them. Then, we strolled around the i-City. One of us met a local citizen and he told us there were many traditional food in i-City. So, we bought some food from the food court. During the conversation between the citizen and us, we shared about the traditional food in both Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong. However, because of our insufficient knowledge, we were not able to tell him different kinds of traditional food in Hong Kong. As a result, our group are going to do some research in traditional food in Hong Kong. Also, we rode on the cable car that surrounded the I-City. The view of those LED lights was amazing and fantastic. The view was really fascinating. Finally, we spend some time on viewing the City of Digital Lights. It was enjoyable and comfortable. By taking photos of I-City, the trip on day 2 had end. 10 Photos Reflection: Day 3 Melaka 11 On day 3, we went to Melaka, which was located in the southern region of the Malay Peninsula, for sightseeing. Melaka was a place that showed the feature history and the cultural characteristic of Malaysia. There were lots of popular historical attractions such as Fort A Famosa, St.John's Fort, St.Pauls Church and Chrwast Church. Besides these hiswastoric spots, there were also some shopping malls like Mahkota Parade, Aeon Ayer Keroh Shopping Center and Malacca Mall for tourists to let us buy local souvenirs. For example, ‘I LOVE MALAYSIA’ t-shirt. 12 It was a rare chance for us to visit lots of historical buildings in a country. Each building had its own history background and meaning. We had visited the ‘Stadthuys’ which was refurbished and printed by red color. The museum had also demonstrated some traditional costumes and historical artifacts of Melaka too. Standing on the street, we could feel the carefree living style that was different from Hong Kong. Also, we went to a village which was named as Kampung Ayer Limau. There were different kinds of plants and made the village full of ruralize. They even taught us to cook Kuih Buah Melaka which was one of the Melaka’s famous snacks. It just liked “Tangyuan”. Everyone enjoyed the moment of cooking. Those villagers were really enthusiastic to promote their culture. The most unforgettable part of the trip was making basket and ‘Rice dumpling bag’ with locals. It was very difficult to make these hand-made crafts, most of us did not know how to make it although the locals taught us patiently. However, those Malaysian were very nice and they kept on teaching us how to make the products until we finished it. 13 Photos Royal Selangor Tin was the most famous mineral in Malaysia. So on the third day of the trip, we had visited royal Selangor. Before visiting there, we thought it would only be a kind of common factory that we used to see. However, royal selangor was grand and beautiful .The tour guide first introduced the history of the factory to us and then led us to look around the factory right after .Before we visited the assembly line, the tour guide led us to see some valuable curio such as some currencies which was made by tin the people used in the past. 14 Everyone looked fulfilled and rejoiced ,if we did notvisit the factory ,we would never realized how useful and valuable that tin was and also most of their products were including Chinese culture just like the “copper coin tree’’ and Guan Gong statue. Finally wevisited the production line and luckily we had a chance to made a bowl as our own souvenir. We had to carve our name on a flat tin board and then kept hitting it to create a bowl shape. At last, we had made our own bowl successfully. Many workers were working in the factory and they were responsible for different procedures respectively. Since we had a chance to experience the procedure, we realized that every process had its difficulty and that's why each of the procedure required skillful and experienced workers. Every worker was treasurable and important to the factory. Comparing the factories in Hong Kong with this factory in Malaysia, most of the factories in Hong Kong were mechanize nowadays, almost every procedures were handle by different machines and we can hardly find a manually factory in the advanced city. As a result, many traditional manuals were no longer extant or replaced by a machine. However, these kinds of manuals were the culture of Hong Kong. They were worth to be adopted and extend but not to be lost in transmission. As a part of Hong Kong, we should care more about tradition just like the manually, which was being discarded.. The factory was like our school while the products were just like us and the procedures were just like our lives. Crave and polish makes a raw material 15 become delicate finished products while challenges in our life make us stronger and more experienced, and the school make us knowledgeably and help us become the pillar. Photos 16 Reflection: Day 4 Forest Research Institute Malaysia We went to the Forest Research Institute Malaysia. It was a fabulous trip. We were guided by the tour guide from FRIM to explore the forest which was located in the institute. We had become familiar with different species of trees and insects after the visit. It was such a geography field trip for us. We had visited the world biggest artificial tropical rain forest and 17 found that there were different layers in the rainforest and the view was awesome! We had learnt different knowledge of the tropical rainforest, like the different name of the tree layers and we can also see some natural features inside the forest which we hadn’t seen it before. Moreover, we went to a museum in FRIM. It shows different kinds of trees and some sample of insects that only existed in Malaysia. We think it was a great opportunity to learn more about different kinds of trees and insects which can broaden our horizon. What was more, our group decided to visit the Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Garden to know more about the plants in Hong Kong. It was very exciting when we explored the tropical rainforest with our tour guide. We had learnt a lot from the trip, such as how to determine the age of a tree and the name of different kinds of trees. Before wevisit the tropical rainforest, we were told to not kill any creatures in the tropical rainforest. We had learnt that every creature plays an important role in an ecosystem. We should respect them even though some of them were small or tiny. 18 Photos 19 Conclusion After visiting Kuala Lumpur, we had learnt a lot from different aspects which we had definitely broaden our horizons. Malaysia was a totally different country comparing with Hong Kong. For instance, Kuala Lumpur was a country which was not completely developed. However, there was a great chance for us to learn their culture. After visiting the spots in Kuala Lumpur, we had experienced a lot. We could not believe that there was still an old village in a city. Then, we realized that we are blessed to live in Hong Kong which is full of advanced technology and high living quality. For example, computers, televisions, air-conditioners and smart phone everywhere. We should be satisfied with our life nowadays but not complaining on everything. Unlike Hong Kong, people in Kuala Lumpur were relaxed since Kuala Lumpur is a slow-paced city. Therefore, we recognized that we should relax ourselves sometimes and slow-down our pace to recharge our energy in order to enjoy a leisure life style.
