On the corner of Bear and South Coast Drive in Costa Mesa.
Welcome to
Costa Mesa
Located strategically in the heart of The OC, this mecca for sun, fun, fashion
and footlights has something for everyone. A chief asset is Costa Mesa’s close
proximity to 42 miles of pristine beaches located along a Southern California
coastline dotted with fabled seaside communities, quaint beach towns and
art colonies.
So whether you’re a seasoned surfer or just a grommet (that’s beach lingo
for an inexperienced wave rider), or you take great joy in sailing, snorkeling,
fishing, strolling along the beach, or just plain gazing at an incredible
Pacific Ocean-style sunset bursting over legendary Catalina Island, Costa
Mesa is the destination for you.
As a worthy rival to the likes of San Francisco and Manhattan for performing
arts, dining and shopping, Costa Mesa is the City of the Arts. It’s known
for many outdoor sculptures and other works of art, and for its world-class
shopping at South Coast Plaza, The Ultimate Shopping Experience, where
shoppers are invited to practice the art of shopping with a virtual visit to 17
countries.

The waves here break quickly into mushy lefts and rights depending on your location next to the rock
jetties. Anything over three feet and the wave starts to build in performance. Best Boards: Shortboard.
Huntington Beach Pier, Huntington Beach
Huntington Beach is surrounded by several miles of breaks, with the pier being the centerpoint. Good
most of the year, the pier is better in winter when the swells pump out double overheads. The waves can
be peaky and fast and often close out, but there’s always a good spot. Huntington Beach is one of the
largest and most accessible surf breaks, hosting all types of waves. Each can vary greatly on the same day
at different tides and in different spots. Best Boards: Longboard, shortboard, funshape.
The Wedge, Newport Beach
The Wedge is less a surf break than a natural phenomenon. It’s a bodysurfing break where waves crash
off the Newport Jetty wall and collide with the normal wave swell to create a huge closeout face. The
Wedge is a bodyboarding or bodysurfing wave equivalent of a giant upward thrusting movement that will
leave your backside hurting if you aren’t careful. Best Boards: Shortboard.
Laguna Beach
The striking coastal town of Laguna Beach is known worldwide as an artists’ colony. Its picturesque
and rugged California coastline has inspired artists for decades. Each summer, Laguna Canyon hosts
the famous Pageant of the Masters tableaux vivant, the Festival of Arts, the Sawdust Art Festival and the
Art-a-Fair Festival. Laguna is the perfect location to explore on foot. Boutiques, art galleries
and sidewalk cafés line the downtown streets. Historic Main Beach features
a vintage lifeguard tower overlooking an idyllic shore with volleyball nets,
basketball courts and a meandering boardwalk.

Unique Gardens
An outdoor feast for your eyes, ears and nose.
Whether you know a hibiscus from a heliconias doesn’t really matter. When
your travels take you to Southern California, you can count on an outdoor
feast for your eyes, ears and nose. Within the region are hundreds of square
miles devoted to a rich variety of the world’s flora, as well as to fountains,
sculptures and other architectural elements that enrich their surroundings.
Here are a few examples to delight experts and novices alike. Enjoy!

Beach. The Garden demonstrates the range of plants that can be grown in Southern California coastal
zones. The entrance court to the house, a classic 50s-modern design, is a beautiful sight particularly
in the spring when the lilac blooms and large Japanese Wisteria dominate the brick wall. There are
small, intimate and distinct gardens, a perennial garden which displays a profusion of flowers during
all seasons as well as large succulents that lead to rare Puyas from Chile. The northwesterly half of the
Garden is devoted to preservation of the native coastal sage scrub.

anywhere in the world.
The Orange County Performing Arts Center’s Renée and Henry

gracefull glass wall. Through the glass, visitors and patrons can see the dramatic multi-tiered foyer and
circular staircase. Once inside, guests can look out and across the Center’s 46,000 square-foot community
plaza to the original Segerstrom Hall with its signature sculpture, Fire Bird, by noted artist Richard
Lippold and the imposing Connector created by Richard Serra. Soaring above the Spanish granite lobby
floor is the ceiling finished in silver leaf and a breathtaking lighting installation titled “Constellation”.

silver lavalieres suspended in graduated lengths that are tipped in illuminated, Baccarat crystal pendants.
