KATHERINE
Katherine Roberts is one individual making a
difference. As a Registered Nurse, she listened to
her heart’s call, moved across the globe to Solwezi,
Zambia, Africa, and is working to raise the standard
of living. While serving as a nurse in this region, she
recognized a need in skill training for individuals
with disabilities. In most cases, disabled individuals in
this region have very limited life options and opportunities. Armed with a strong vision for a better life,
Katherine and Initials, Inc. are partnering through
the Initials, Inc. iCare Foundation to build a training
center that will be used to teach the skill of sewing.
The disabled of Solwezi refuse to beg; they want
to be taught skills to succeed,” says Katherine.

IN KATHERINE’S WORDS...
“I always knew serving was in me from the beginning,
it was a curiosity, my heart’s desire. Being a traveling
nurse prepared me for this experience. I looked at several organizations but
none were a fit. The call was so clear for me I decided to use my savings and go.
I was in Zambia the following month. My plan has always been to serve, to help.
Through this process I have been exposed to a variety of experiences but all
driven by the desire to create positive change. Every decision I make, I ask, ‘Is this
sustainable and is it giving them power?’ I committed to taking small steps every
day and I listened to what made my heart happy. No doubt, this is what God has
chosen me to do.”
