GATEWAY Church of the Nazarene OUT OF THE ASHES A Story of Hope “And I will put this third into the fire, and refine them as one refines silver, and test them as gold is tested. They will call upon my name, and I will answer them. I will say, ‘They are my people’; and they will say, ‘The Lord is my God.’” Zechariah 13:9 Gateway Church of the Nazarene Summer 2011 Gateway Church of the Nazarene CVJMEJOHTUIBU XPSL 'SPNUIFFBSMJFTUQMBOOJOHBOEDPODFQUVBMXPSLUP UIFöOBMBQQSPWBMTBOESJCCPODVUUJOH5IF.D,OJHIU(SPVQ QSPWJEFTBDPNQMFUFFYQBOTJPOSFNPEFMJOHPSOFXCVJME FYQFSJFODF"OEXIFOBOFXGBDJMJUZJTDPNQMFUFEXF IFMQGVMöMMJUTQPUFOUJBMBTBQMBDFPGXPSTIJQ5BDUJDTBOE UBMFOUBUFWFSZTUBHFNBLFJUQPTTJCMF 2 - Gateway Nazarene 2011 5IF.D,OJHIU(SPVQ .D%PXFMM3PBE (SPWF$JUZ0) GPSNPSFJOGPSNBUJPO XXXNDLOJHIUHSPVQDPN SFRVFTU!NDLOJHIUHSPVQDPN Gateway Church of the Nazarene Such an Event Sometimes in life one comes across an event where the presence of the hand of God is so obvious faith is confirmed and commitment grows deep. The relocation project of Oskaloosa Church of the Nazrene is such an event. I received a call in January of 2006 about a church that had recently been through a fire and was going to be in need of help. This former Pastor obviously had a vision for what could transpire through adversity. This phone call was such an event. Many weeks passed while relationships were established and agreements were developed. This was not an easily traveled road as there were many, many questions to be answered. And while we humans were dreaming the dreams, preparing images of the future, and placing the lines on paper, God was establishing himself, once again, as the Perfector of our faith. It is similar to a God-created birth within a family, when we ask ourselves, “How could we have not known this was who God had for us?” This traveled road was such an event. Heartache and strife are not uncommon to projects of this magnitude, especially within the church. Honoring God is first and foremost in everyone’s mind, it’s just that we don’t necessarily see it from our brother’s and sister’s perspective. Interesting how these things occur in the midst of the journey, yet we are better for it as we stay the course and glorify God. We all acted as if we were sacrificing for someone else, but instead we experience the blessing. This blessing is such an event. Victories along the way pepper the path with incentive to move ahead. Design is completed, drawings are finished, finances are in place, sub-contractors are hired..and it rains... and it rains...and rains. One sub-contractor now comments, “It seems that every trip I made to the church last summer, revealed workers with mud caked to their shoes and pants, often times up to their waist.” Perseverance in times of storm produces good results and great satisfaction through steady accomplishment. This storm was such an event. today marks the beginning of a new chapter in the life of this bride, Oskaloosa Church of the Nazarene. We can now see the building. Soon we will know what God has envisioned all along. I hope this place will become “the spot” similar to “the spot” where Jesus met Zacchaeus: Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way. When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” So he came down and welcomed him gladly. Luke 19:16 NIV This spot is the place many have prayed over and sacrificed for. I hope it will be a place where people, like Zacchaeus, will see Christ perhaps for the first time, be challenged by Him, and welcome Him gladly. This spot is such an event. My friends at Oskaloosa Church of the Nazarene, I can admittedly proclaim that I have experienced the privilege of being in the presence of the hand of God as I have worked with you. There is no other explanation for what has happened here. And, the best is yet to come. Please rejoice in the journey, and thank God for each life you come in contact with along the way. Remain steadfast in your faith and find great satisfaction in meeting needs and healing hurts, for the cause of Christ. Revel in such an event. On behalf of our chief Executive Officer, Homer McKnight, President David McKnight, Designer Philip Tipton, Architect Raul deMesa, Engineering staff, Project Coordinator Dale Turner, Superintendent Mike O’Dell, and the Construction team, thank you for choosing The McKnight Group and letting us experience the hand of God. Along with several great pictures, some of the history of how we got here is chronicled by our people. In January 2006, the church was very close to being 92 years old Dave Childers - Pastor as a congregation. While much had happened for the glory of God and building of the Kingdom across the almost 92 years, in recent years, the church had been in decline. And then came the fire. It seemed as though it was a wake-up call and an opportunity for a new beginning. The fire was only one of the elements to the bigger story. It is with gratitude that our church thanks our partners in this process. (INJOY Stewardship Team Iowa Church of the Nazarene Solutions, Rev. Larry Dean, Representative; The McKnight Group, Homer McKnight – Owner, Mark Siebert, Vice President, Project Coordinator– Dale Turner, Site Superintendent – Mike O’Dell.) These along with the many sub-contractors and their crews have worked diligently across 22 months to make our worship facility a well-built building to serve the church and the community for years to come. In addition to these, our people have been blessed of God and have been most generous. In John 10, verse 9, Jesus said, “I am the Gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.” Recently, our congregation approved a church board recommendation to change the official name of the church to Gateway Church of the Nazarene and pending the July 2011 District Assembly approval, this will be our new name. This building will be a fine gateway to the community of Oskaloosa but we also believe the giant cross in front of our building is the gateway to receive eternal life by accepting Jesus Christ as one’s personal savior. As you have come to see our building or celebrate worship with us, we welcome you and extend the gracious hand of invitation to join us in the journey of making a significant difference in people’s lives. As of now (June 2011) the church is 97 years old. God has given us a new beginning and blessed us with an unprecedented opportunity to reach the new generation yet to come. We feel that we are poised in a strategic place and an appropriate time to reach people in southeast Iowa for God. May the Lord bless you as you mingle in our midst. David E. The people of Oskaloosa First Church of the Nazarene faced such a tragedy on January 21st, 2006, when their building burned to the ground. Even as fire fighters arrived from the surrounding areas, and the fire raged out of control, the next chapter in the near 100 Garey Miller Dist. Supt. year history of the church was already being written. Over the course of the next five years, the resolve of the people of this church has been tested. As we approach the grand opening of the new facilities at First Church, we see clearly the determination of the people of this church. A determination not only to quite literally rise from the ashes of this tragedy, but also to make a substantial impact on people’s lives in the Oskaloosa area and on the community of Oskaloosa itself. As the District Superintendent of the Iowa District Church of the Nazarene, I am proud to have such a dedicated church providing leadership in our state. Iowans are a hearty bunch, generation after generation of stubborn farmers dedicated to working the Iowa prairie. Given the nature of the people that comprise this church, it comes as no surprise that they were able to take a terrible situation and turn it into something that will bless people’s lives for generations to come. With the opening of this new facility, Oskaloosa First Church of the Nazarene will be that much more capable of living into their mission of being Oskaloosa’s Gateway to Hope. Well done, Church, well done! Dr. Garey Alan Miller District Superintendent Iowa District Church of the Nazarene McKnight Project Superintendent I knew the first day I was in Oskaloosa that I would not only fit in, but enjoy my time here. The people have been so kind to help me find an apartment, thanks to Pastor Dave, it just took one phone call. As a superintendent of construction, 6 - Gateway Nazarene 2011 you never know what sub-contractors you have to work with. But, it’s like they were all hand-picked just for my type of personality. Not only are they all hard workers, but they all work together very well as a team. I still remember the spring of 2010 trying to get the footers and grade beams dug and poured. It rained almost every day and I pumped water out of the ditches, which would fill Mike O’Dell Supt. back up the next day. It was getting so frustrating – all I did was pump and pump even in the rain – just to try and keep up. Then on one Sunday, Pastor Dave’s sermon was on perseverance. It was like that sermon was directed right at me, due to my frustration from all the rain we were dealing with. But before I realized it, we were pouring concrete, setting steel and the progress of the building had really picked up. My job was starting to be enjoyable again, or maybe it was always there, but I did not have the perseverance that I needed until that Sunday sermon. There are so many people I have enjoyed spending time with during my stay in Osky. Like the dinners I was invited to from many different families of the congregation of the church. The city officials have been great to work with on this project. They have all been very helpful with getting this project underway and to the finish. Now that my work here is completed, I would like to thank everyone who had a very special role in making this a successful project, especially the prayer team from the church who prayed for the worker’s safety. As a Christian, I believe that prayer had a big part in watching over the workers. We finished the project with cuts that only needed band-aids, which is a miracle with this many contractors on the same project working together. As I move on to my next project, wherever it may be, a part of me will always be here because a Nazarene Church in Marion, Ohio opened there hearts to a lost soul who later became a “church building superintendent.” I would highly recommend if you do not have a church home, to try the First Church of the Nazarene of Osky, and maybe someday you will have a story to tell about how a sermon changed your attitude. Mike O-Dell - Superintendent Gateway Church of the Nazarene Ready, Set, GO! By March of 2010 the steel and materials had been purchased and were delivered to the property. Though building would have a slow start due to weather, transformation to the property began immediately. A flyover in June of 2010 reveals that the steel structure is beginning to rise. (Top) By July of 2010 even more had been added. Roofing was beginning to appear as well. Much of the steel was completed by the end of summer 2010. Our tasks were to work on our mission statement, to go over our values, to cast a vision, and to set goals. We tried to make both short-term and long-term goals for the future of our Church. One of our long-term goals was to someday relocate our church to an area that would have plenty of space and would be extremely visible. We also hoped for this location to be close to the new four-lane highway west of town. One advantage we thought this opportunity would give us would be the ability to have all of our ministries under one roof. This would make it so that our children and teens would no longer have to walk across the parking lot to attend activities in other buildings. Also, we would no longer have to worry about their safety with the traffic or dealing with poor weather. We categorized relocation and building a new church as a long-term goal because we didn’t have the money to buy property, let alone build a church. However, our “optional” relocation instantly became a necessity in less than two years when the former church building burned in a fire. Around the time of the fire, our Church had an insurance policy that had an “umbrella” policy that would cover a number of damages. This policy was set to run out in two more weeks and we planned to drop it because of the extra expense. However, because it was still in effect, we received a large amount of insurance money that we could put towards our relocation and building project. I believe this timing and good fortune was a true work of God. Things like this have continued through the whole process of the building project and God has continued to work miracles. In the 1950’s, when the Church bought land and began to build along South 11th Street, Highway 63 came along the west side of the property. Highway 63 was the main highway going through Oskaloosa at that time. Later, Wal-Mart built its store near our church which brought constant traffic flow around our church buildings. However, when it became time for Oskaloosa to build a Wal-Mart Supercenter, the decision was made to move Wal-Mart west of town. With the departure of Wal-Mart went the traffic flow and prime visibility of our church. This problem was compounded with the reality that our church buildings were getting older and were becoming very high maintenance. Our church simply could not stay where we were. A move had to be made. And … then came the fire! Will we chart our future as a church by what we can see or by the vision God desires to give us? - Pastor Dave Where nearly 7 million investors find face time and satisfaction. Again and again. If you were out that winter night in our community, you will not soon forget the more than chilly temperatures combined with the bright flashing lights and pungent smelling smoke that penetrated Oskaloosa. The wind was from the south and the smoke was lifted northward to where even the hospital was breathing in the smell. Firefighters were fatigued and hundreds of people reminisced at some memory they experienced across the 49 years the church had occupied the current location. For many, grief settled in their minds and for some it is still very real. After all, this locale was where someone was baptized, married or eulogized in their family. Perhaps they professed their faith in one of these buildings or sent their child to youth camp or a loved one on a Work & Witness trip from here. Flashing lights, thick smoke, firemen everywhere. Cell phone calls, flooded emotions, memory flashbacks of grace-filled moments. A child dedicated – the altars now gone. Wedding celebrated – the stained glass now crushed and absent. Work & Witness memorabilia – now reduced to ashes. Red Cross pizza – Musco Light truck – all night police on duty – it was an emotionally draining experience. January 21, 2006 for OFCN’ers was an incomprehensible Saturday Night! Pastor Dave Childers remembers the events clearly … “Two nights after being nominated by the Church Board to be your pastor, I received a phone call that would change my life. 7:15 pm – the church had sustained a fire that was contained. 7:30 pm – NO, the fire was not contained. I worked the phone while my daughter Julie rushed me to the scene from where we were in Des Moines. Arriving at 8:50 pm, we stood in shock and disbelief as we watched the large Sanctuary being consumed and later the entire McCord Hall complex go up in flames. Then came Sunday. Praise the Lord! With catching two hours of sleep between 3:00-5:00 am, I remember coming to the office at 5:55 am on Sunday morning. The message came to me: tWe are called to be fire baptized disciples tGod is the author of new beginnings tJesus Christ is still Lord of His Church! t What an opportunity t And yes – you can vote on me to be your next pastor.” Sometimes it is hard to measure life transformation. However, here is a truth that is enduring: Christlikeness is our hearts will always work itself out in our speech, behavior and lifestyle. -Pastor Dave Congratulations to the New Gateway Church Heslinga, Heslinga, Dixon & Moore Attorneys at Law Gateway Nazarene 2011 - 9 Gateway Church of the Nazarene God-Workings: Part 2 When we were looking for a new church home 26 years ago, we were impressed by the walk of faith expressed in so many of the lives of our church members. I remember people like Willard Andrews, Harold Waal, and others talk about the miracles they had seen God perform as they walked in faith and not by sight. on the God of the impossible. I was scheduled to be on duty at the sight at 4 AM the next morning, but I could not sleep, so headed in around 3 AM. Because I was early, I drove out to the location South of Wal-M+art where our new property is. It was there that God reminded me to trust Him more and to walk in the faith I had so admired 26 years earlier. This type of lifestyle was very attractive to my wife and I. Our daughter who was 12 years old at the time made the comment one night on our way home from a service. “They act like they really mean it, don’t they?” It was because of this faith in action that we decided to join the church. It has been a long five years since the fire, and there have been ups and downs, but I have seen God move in many of the details in a miraculous way. I continue to expect God’s hand in the process of moving and in the exciting ministry that awaits us in our new church. Time has a way of diminishing that faith if we don’t exercise it. When one of our men suggested 7 years ago at a church board retreat that we look at the possibility of a new campus near a major highway, my first thought was, ” how can we afford to do that?” I didn’t think too much more about it until the night of the fire. That night the Lord challenged me to again focus 10 - Gateway Nazarene 2011 You will never change anything you are willing to tolerate. -Myles Monroe Gateway Church of the Nazarene Milestones So how did we get here? The dedication service was held on May 25, 1958. In 1973, the church’s marching orders were received in a message entitled “I Will Build My Church”. More land was purchased. A mighty group of volunteer workers were on the scene. In 1976, we moved into our new “Home of Hope” seating 1,000 in the sanctuary and 1,200 in Sunday School. January 21, 2006 the entire sanctuary was burned to the ground and was a total loss The Chistian LIfe Center, built in 1983 served as our temporary worship center from February 2006 until the new building was complete. Gateway Nazarene 2011 - 15 Gateway Church of the Nazarene April 2010 June 2010 August 2010 May 2010 July 2010 September 2010 New Building & Ministries The building is simply a tool. It is not the ministry of the church. The ministry of the church is to make disciples. To win people to Jesus Christ, to train them, aid in the maturing of their faith, and to send them in service to the world – this is ministry. Recent events in our culture, country and world apprise all of us that hope is needed. In our community many children need hope. Students of middle school, high school and college are all looking for help and for hope. Singles and marrieds of all ages need encouragement that only Christ can bring. He is the ultimate GATEWAY TO HOPE. Many activities, programs and opportunities currently exist for people to plus into through the weekly schedule of GATEWAY NAZARENE. It will become more obvious that our new building will be a means to accomplish what GATEWAY TO HOPE is all about. The new worship center will be an attractive greeting to those who enter Oskaloosa from the west, and it will represent what we desire every Christian congregation in town will embrace. That is, that Jesus Christ is the gate or doorway into a personal relationship with God which will give you hope on the inside of who you are to cope with all that is occurring in your life. 16 - Gateway Nazarene 2011 Micah Hammann performs during a Christmas presentation. Our church has always beem blessed with talented people with a heart for God. The new building will allow us even more opportunities to present the gospel in an effective and creative manner. Gateway Church of the Nazarene Geek Speak At one of our first design meetings for the new Gateway project, one of the key decisions made centered on putting in a common communication infrastructure that all building technologies would use. Just a few years ago, telephone systems, computer networks, televisions, video cameras, and sound systems used their own cabling platforms. With advances in technology and a turn to more computer based systems, all of those technologies in the new building will run on the same cable known as ‘CAT6’ or Category 6. This common infrastructure provides great flexibility and makes it possible to essentially move any technology device to anywhere in the building. Want to set the band up in the lobby to play before a Christmas musical? It would take longer to move the piano bench than it would getting the sound set up there. Several volunteers and several Wednesday evenings allowed for pulling 39,000 feet of CAT6 cable throughout the building. The connectors on the ends require a bit more skill and were installed by certified cable installers. Can You Hear Me Now? Our design team interviewed 2 Pro-Audio companies to engineer and install the Sound, Projection and Lighting systems. We selected All Pro Sound from Pensacola Florida. All Pro specializes in church installations as well as coliseum and stadium installations. implementation of ‘The Easy Button’. This button will allow for very basic operation of the sound system. We anticipate The Easy Button will be used for funerals, banquets and other events when a simple wireless mic, iPod and other basic sources are needed. Lights, Camera, Action! All auditorium sports lights, canned lights and theatrical lights are controlled by 1 dimmer control system. The lighting system fed by 48 2,400-watt dimmers, provides over 115,000 watts of light; although with many energy saving lights like DMX controlled LED fixtures in use, that wattage will not be fully utilized. As with the audio ‘easy button’, the lights can easily be turned on and off using simple keypads at multiple door locations. There are preprogrammed ‘scenes’ that can easily be selected. A simple push of a button will change the lighting scenery. Video Projection Blended, not shaken or stirred Engineers from Pensacola visited Oskaloosa twice to see how we currently used our existing set up, and also met with designers from McKnight to make sure all of the recommended systems coordinated with construction. At the core, the audio system is driven by a digital Yamaha MC7 48-channel board. In addition, a remote stage box allows us to drop in an additional 16 channels anywhere on the stage or anywhere in the building. There are 14 speakers across the front of the stage pointed at the audience. Seven speakers are built into the top step to serve the first 2-4 rows of seating and the others are hung directly above . The speaker products are high-end Danley Sound Labs manufactured in Gainesville, Georgia . Danley’s innovations have been utilized in projects ranging from ground zero bombing simulation and active noise cancellation of jet engines to critical listening mastering studios, high end home theatre and houses of worship around the world. Their mission statement is: To find favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Proverbs 3:4 The main audio rack consists of 8 Power Amplifiers providing 10,700 watts of audio power. One key feature the Oskaloosa design team requested was the A view of the stage from the “Crows Nest” Rather than 2 separate screens on the left and right of the stage, the wide design of the main auditorium had the design team looking for better options. With the onset of widescreen television formats, this opened a new possibility – install 1 main ‘letterbox’ screen over the stage, above the choir. Utilizing 2 7500-lumen Digital Projection Corporation projectors, (3 times brighter than our existing projectors) the ‘blended’ product will create a 34 foot wide by 14 foot high image. The left hand projector will handle the left side of the image, and the right hand projector will Gateway Nazarene 2011 - 17 Gateway Church of the Nazarene multimedia experience, we were right there, ready to help. These two images combine and together produce 1 image. The booth area was designed to ‘push out’ into the auditorium for the best audio monitoring of house sound. Our facilities also have room for a separate recording room – to be implemented in the future. In addition to the network cable described at the beginning of this article there was another 15,000 feet of audio cable installed to the stage via a 2-foot wide cable tray throughout the auditorium all the way to the back hallway. This cable ‘highway’ holds network cable, speaker cable, mic cable, lighting DMX cable, security cable and video projection cables. Many thanks to all those who helped volunteer in pulling all the cable. This allowed us to put several thousand more dollars toward equipment. We worship God as the Creator and Sustainer of the universe and believe that it is by His might and power that we enjoy all this beautiful world has to offer. We worship God as the Redeemer and Savior of our souls; it is through His Son, Jesus Christ and His death and resurrection that we find forgiveness for our sins and victory in this life and the life to come. We worship God through the gift of His Holy Spirit that draws us into communion with his Spirit and enables us to live a life that is pleasing and acceptable unto our Lord. It is into this relationship with the Living God that we gather each Sunday morning to offer our sacrifice of thanksgiving and praise. Through the corporate acts of singing, praying, preaching, testifying, Bible reading, fellowshipping, and giving we respond to the ways in which God has manifested Himself in our lives. The musical styling used at Gateway is varied and can best be described as a blend of traditional and contemporary music. The Gateway Worship Choir and Worship Band lead our Sunday morning worship music experience with a blend of hymns, anthems, choruses, gospel songs; all sung with the expressed purpose of drawing us closer to God and experiencing His presence in our praise. The Word of God is delivered to us by our Lead Pastor, Dave Childers each Sunday. Along with the Bible and the leading of the Holy Spirit, Pastor presents the good news of God’s plan for our lives through the expounding of scripture and practical application for our daily lives. We believe it is an act of worship to present to the Lord an offering. Out of His providence we are able to work and provide for “our daily bread” and in return God asks us to take a portion of that which He has blessed us with and give it as an offering to provide for the on-going ministries of the church and support of world evangelism. We enjoy the interaction of fellowship with other believers and while our primary focus is on worshipping God we do take time to build and maintain meaningful relationships with one another and through that fellowship seek to serve and edify one another. Prayer is another important part of our worship experience. Prayer is a wonderful method we have available to us to come before God; to honor Him for who He is, to praise Him for all He has done and to petition Him for mercy, grace, blessings, healing, comfort, salvation, forgiveness, peace, and so much more! In addition to these primary elements of our worship service you will also experience personal stories of how God has transformed a life, dramatic sketches that illustrate an aspect of godly living, presentations by our children and youth, and seasonal musical productions. In addition to attending our worship services there is a wide variety of ways you can take part in helping make our services come alive. One thing theme that arose as important was building a facility that would serve. Specifically the leadership desired to have a building that could be used seven days a week. McKnight has worked closely with the church leadership to do just that. A Meeting Place One of the built-in amenities are the many meeting rooms. There are three large rooms with stages and audio/video equipment. The students and children’s worship centers are designed to hold 75-100 people. This was by design. While the children and students will have a great place to worship on Sundays and Wednesdays the community at large will have a place they can rent to meet with their groups. The main worship center is very large and is designed to hold 750 people. The makes this room one of the largest single meeting rooms in Oskaloosa. The main worship center was built as multi-purpose room. All the chairs that are used during worship services can be taken down and set up in any manner of ways. This room can serve as an excellent meeting room for larger groups and conferences. The childrens worship center is an excellent room for meetings. Sports as an outreach Gateway Church of the Nazarene was know for it’s outstanding athletic facility. Once the fire came, we had to repurpose the gymnasium as a worship center. The worship center also has a volleyball court as well. We have already started the process of resurrecting our sports program. In the winter of 2011 we began our Upwards basketball program. The program had over 40 kids involved. All the games were played at local gyms. We look forward to being able to grow this program by using our own facility. Coffee and Books One of the special features of our new facility is that it will contain two cafes and a small bookstore. The coffee shops will be available on Sundays. The bookstore will be opening soon. It will provide customers with a great selection of Christian literature and gifts. The main cafe includes a two-sided fireplace. Creating a great atmosphere for intimate visits with loved ones and friends. The new gym will play host to many athletic events. Rites of Passage The fireplace in the main cafe offers a warm place for conversation. Our building is also built to be a place where family and friends can gather to celebrate important moments in life. We can once again host weddings. Our building has many rooms that can serve in this capacity. Even our foyer was built with the idea that it may be used for receptions or even a wedding ceremony. Funerals can also be held in our facility. We have rooms that are smaller and more intimate for hosting these type of events. Here are a few things we have taken away from this. tIt takes a deliberate effort to stand up and start again believing that God knows all things and can always help us. tWorthwhile achievements do not happen all so quickly & take significant commitment. tLots of people doing a little bit over time can do more than what they might think they can. tBuildings are a tool. They are made of brick and mortar and wood and steel and stone. They can cease to be useable in a short amount of time. They are important and insurable. Yet, it is amazing how we come to a false sense of security by how nice our home or office or in this case, our place of worship tends to be. tRelationships are important. As many of us from the church and community stood and watched this beautiful building burn, we were remembering some very sacred moments and events in our lives that were in the building. And while the building was nice, it was the relationships with people that made the memories important. People are always more important than things. tThe making of spiritual memories is important. Our church is committed to the propagation of the Christian faith. We want to see people’s lives changed by the resurrection power of Jesus Christ. This may happen in a special program, at a baby dedication, at a baptism, or as a result of a public altar invitation. It is called life transformation. It’s a God-moment –where someone makes a decision to forever change the course of their life.
