Did you know? The “House of Mica” is a
term that the Hopi Indian Prophets use to
describe the United Nations. The
Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues
was established in July 2000, by the
Economic and Social Council of the United
Nations at the recommendation of the
Commission on Human Rights and was
created as an advisory body to address the
diverse issues that millions of Indigenous
peoples are facing around the world.
Editor’s Note: The VTP would
also like to thank Ellen
McGuffie of the UN Department
of Public Information for all
her excellent work with the UN
Press releases etc., as they
were
essential
to
the
completion of our report. On
behalf of the UCTP, we would
also like to thank Jan Arnesan
of the UN Department of Public
Information,
Exhibits
Department
for
including
several Taíno photographs from
the UCTP’s collection within
the incredibly beautiful and
informative
UN
Public
exhibition,
“Celebrating
Indigenous Peoples”.

You have a great website. I have
been now researching my roots and I
was very happy to find out that both
of my parents were born in the town
of Coamo and Aibonito. I will use this
site to do more research, due to that
my mother has told me that her
great-great-grandmother was of
Taino decent. This will help my
grand-children now about the true
people of Borikén.

Many Blessings to you all who
recognized the need of educating us

history and the beautiful culture of the
Taino Natives. I am a college student
seeking knowledge of the history of

my people and I thank you for
enabling me to know who I am.
May you all continue to search and
unveil the truths and hidden
mysteries of the indigenous people of
Puerto Rico. ASE! (so must it be)
Thank you!
Orisabunmi Agunbiosu

I just found out that I am a Taino
descendant and, proud of it too! I'm
educating my Lakota family and
other Native's about the Taino's.
