‘The World Taxidermy Championships® is the grandest event in taxidermy and offers the most prestigious
title in taxidermy, that of a World
Champion. We are very happy to
announce that we are producing the second World Taxidermy
Championship in Europe, in conjunction with Reed Exhibitions
Messe Salzburg. The World Show competition will be part of
‘Die Hohe Jagd & Fischerei’, one of Europe‘s most significant
hunting and fishing shows. The WTC 2012 will be supported
and produced with assistance of the European Taxidermy Federation and the Austrian Federal Guild of Fashion and Clothing
Technology. ‘The World Taxidermy Championships®’ has been
called taxidermy‘s greatest event and there are many reasons
why it is given that title. Taxidermists from all over the world
meet to compete, communicate, learn, and enjoy the highest
standards of this art form. In addition to the competition, there
will be seminars by the leading taxidermists, critiques of your
entries by world-class judges, and large cash awards given to
winners.

Divisions:
there are three divisions for exhibits to compete:
master division, professional division and novice division. a class determines the criteria used
to judge an exhibit.
> masTer
this is the most difficult division. Judgement of exhibits is carried out by three jurors in the Master
Division. Judgement is carried out to the strictest
of criteria. For this reason it is only possible to
become ‘World Taxidermy Champion 2012’ in
the masTer diVision.
> proFessional
the Professional Division is for taxidermists looking
to compete with other taxidermists to see just how
good their work really is. the jury is responsible
for passing judgment on the standard of exhibits.
> noViCe
noviCE DiviSion is for beginners, youths and
children who have already gathered some experience within the world of taxidermy. the learning
aspect is of greatest importance within this division.
CategoRies:
Participants determine the skill level expected of their
exhibit(s) themselves, by choosing the right division
for their exhibits (Master, Professional or novice). allocation into categories is determined by exhibit(s)
submitted. Category divisions in the Professional
Division and novice Division are the same, as novice Division is seen as preparation for subsequent
competitions.
the World Champion title is only awarded in the
most difficult of the three skill divisions, the MaStEr
DiviSion. World titles will be awarded if there
is a deserving entry (see guideline 6) in each of
the Master Division categories. a first, second, and
third place ribbon is possible in each available
subcategory. in categories in which there are subcategories, the judges will select ‘Best in World‘
from winners of first place ribbons. to become a
‘World taxidermy Champion 2012’, and to receive a medal, it is necessary to gain a minimum of
90 points. if there is a category in which no contestant achieves a minimum score of 90 points, the
title ‘World taxidermy Champion 2012‘ will not
be awarded.

The points of the four best exhibits submitted
within the division are added together. The seven best taxidermists are selected for the final
round in which four exhibits are put together
and labelled from a to G.
The entries are then re-evaluated by all the jurors of the corresponding categories in a new
analysis and the winner is then selected.
The exhibits are judged on the criteria of artistic
merit, anatomical accuracy, originality and difficulty. if two competitors have the same number
of points the prize will be shared equally between the competitors with the same total.

of the European Taxidermy Federation and the Austrian Federal Guild of Fashion and Clothing Technology (Bundesinnung für Mode und Bekleidungstechnik)
and Breakthrough Magazine Inc., administrators of
‘The World Taxidermy Championships®’.
3. Participant eligibility:
All taxidermists worldwide. All private individuals
and registered companies are entitled to participate.
4. Language:
The competition will be held in the languages German and English.
5. Liability:
The organizer does not accept any liability for exhibits submitted for the competition. Competitors take
part at their own risk. The organizer has arranged
optional insurance (see registration form).
6. Divisions and Categories:
There are three divisions for exhibits to compete: Master Division, Professional Division and Novice Division.
World titles can only be won in the Masters Divisions.
The Master Division is the most difficult division.
Each exhibit in the Master Division will be judged
by three judges on one score sheet. Best in World
titles are only awarded in the main categories, not
in subcategories such as 1.a and 1.b. In categories
with no subcategories the highest scoring entry with
a score of 90 or higher will win the gold medal (Best
in World), second highest a silver medal (Second
in World) and third highest a bronze medal (Third
in World). In categories with subcategories a 1st,
2nd, and 3rd place ribbon will be awarded to the
three highest scoring entries that meet the criteria and
Best in World will be selected by the judges from
first place winners in the subcategories. Second and
Third in World will be selected from remaining eligible ribbon winners. A mount must score at least a 90
in the Master Division to be eligible to win a Best in
World, Second in World or a Third in World. If there
is no mount scoring at least a 90 in that category,
there will be no World Title awarded.
The Master Division is a single ribbon division. This
means only a first, second and third place ribbon is
possible in the individual categories and subcategories. An entry still must score high enough to be worthy of a ribbon. In some cases, the first, second and
third place winners may all score in the 90s, however, if a category or subcategory has one mount scoring in the 90s and the next highest scoring mount
is in the 70’s, then there will only be a first and a
third place awarded (the second place will not be
awarded). In the Master Division a competitor cannot “sweep” a category or subcategory. If he/she
has more that one entry in a category only his or her
highest scoring entry in that category or subcategory
will receive a placing. The same “no sweep” rule
also applies to Best in World titles within a category.
The exhibits (entries) in the Collective Artist Category
of the Master Division are judge by different criteria
than other exhibits (entries) in the Master Division categories. The rules for completing these exhibits are
also different. Please read 7b for more information
on the Collective Artist category.
The Professional Division is considered a division
for advanced taxidermist and not for beginning taxidermist. Each exhibit (entry) will be judged separately and independently by one of the jury members.
The Novice Division is for beginners, youths and
children who have already gathered some experience within the world of taxidermy and who wish to
gain more experience by competing as exhibitors.
The learning aspect of taxidermy is of greatest importance within this division.
Very Important: Competitors may not compete in the
same category in different divisions. For example, if
you enter in Category 10 Fish (skin Mounts) in the
Master Division you cannot enter this same category in the Professional Division. You may compete in
both the Master and Professional Divisions but not in
the same category of both.

Participants are free to enter the Master, Professional or Novice Division, depending on where
they are most comfortable in competing. In case of
doubt the panel of adjudicators will assist in selecting the correct division. Young (juvenile) mammals
will be allocated to a category according to their
estimated actual live weight. The adjudicating panel is responsible for all final decisions.
7. Prizes & Awards:
Every competitor will receive a certificate of participation.
In the Master Division the three highest scoring
exhibits (entries) in each category will determine
who wins the Best in World, Second in World, and
Third in World for that category. The Best in World
winners will be awarded a gold, silver and bronze
medal.
The prizes for the Professional and Novice Divisions
are a blue ribbon (from 100 to 90 points), red ribbon (from 89 to 80 points) or yellow ribbon (from
79 to 70 points) awarded when the according
points total has been achieved.
The following special money awards will be awarded to qualifying winners in the Professional Division. The blue ribbon points range (exhibits scoring
90 or higher) will be subdivided into gold, silver,
and bronze ribbons. The entry in each category
awarded the highest points will be awarded gold,
the second highest points will receive silver, and
bronze to the third highest. If two competitors are
awarded the same number of points, a panel of
adjudicators shall make the final decision.
Special prizes
> 7a. The Competitors’ Award
Competitors in the Master Division and Professional Divisions must submit at least 4 exhibits in
order to qualify to participate. The participant
can enter more than 4 exhibits and the highest 4
scoring entries will be used to determine who is
eligible to win these awards. There is no limit as
to the number of exhibits that can be entered. If
a participant has entered 4 exhibits each in both
Master Division and Professional Division, he/
she is required to decide, when registering, in
which division he/she would like to compete for
the Competitors’ Award. Otherwise, he/she will
be excluded from the aforementioned discipline.
This award and prize money will be awarded to
the seven highest scoring groups of four entries
in both Master Division and Professional Division.
Each group of four entries of the 7 highest scoring
competitors are then put together and labeled A,
B, C, D, E, F and G. All the jury members of
the world competition will vote by secret ballot to
determine the winner. The exhibits are judged on
the criteria of artistic merit, anatomical accuracy,
originality and difficulty. The result will be announced at the gala evening (award ceremony).
If two competitors are allocated the same number
of points after balloting, the prize money will be
shared equally.
>7b. Collective Artists
(Category of the Master Division only)
The winner of this World Title will win E 1000.
There are two subcategories for Collective Artist:
single animal or group of animals. The competing
exhibit must have been made by at least 2 or
more taxidermists. This category is an excellent
opportunity for companies or teams to compete
for a World title in taxidermy. Every team participating in this category can submit as many
exhibits as it wishes. Any combination of animals
can be entered for this prize. The 3 best placed
exhibits in each subcategory will win First, Second and Third place ribbons. The Best in World,
Second in world and third in World winners will
be awarded a gold, silver and bronze medal providing there are three entries that score in the 90
or higher The Best in World winner (gold medal)
has the right to be titled ‘World Champions’ and
is awarded the E 1000.
>7c. Master of Masters
Who is permitted to participate: Entry into this
competition is limited to former world champions,
members of the jury and past winners of a First
place in the Master Division. Forms, shapes,
profiles & moulds: All structural shapes must be fabricated by the taxidermist him/herself. Standard
conventional purchasable forms or artificial parts
may not be used unless they were originally created by the participant in question. Judging: The
winners will be decided by a secret vote carried
out amongst all the participants in the Master Division. The exhibit receiving the most votes wins this
prize. The winner will be announced during the
gala evening. Conditions: Participants are permitted to submit any desired species or combination
of species. All work must have been completed
by the taxidermist. This shall be confirmed with
his/her signature. Freeze drying: Freeze-drying
and dry frozen body parts are not allowed in the
Master of Masters competition. All body parts of
all species, including the head, must be skinned
and mounted in a conventional manner. Prizes:
The First, Second, and Third place winners each
will earn a special medal and a certificate.
>7d. Taxidermists’ Choice
This competition allows participating taxidermists to choose and vote for their personal favorite exhibit from all competition entries. On
registering, participants are each given one
ballot paper on which they write the number
of their favorite exhibit and submit their vote.
All votes must be submitted by 3:00 p.m. on
Thursday, 23rd February 2012. The winner will
be awarded a certificate and a special medal
to be awarded at the gala evening. The Salzburg Exhibition Centre has donated E 500 for
the winner.
>7 e. The Simon T. Blackshaw Award for Judges’
Choice Best of Show
The ‘Judges’ Choice Best of Show Award’ is
awarded amongst all the Best in World winners
in the Master Division. A secret vote amongst
all the jurors shall decide the winner. The winner is awarded a special medal and a certificate. Furthermore, the Austrian Federal Guild of
Fashion and Clothing Technology is donating
E 1000 towards this prize.
8. Judging:
All exhibits will be judged anonymously, thus
no exhibit shall be allowed to carry the name
of the taxidermist. The main focus of evaluation
shall be on the prepared animal itself. However,
other aspects of the exhibit, such as the frame,
artistic merit, base, plates, habitat, as well as the
stability of the exhibit, will also be taken into account. Recognized experts chosen by the panel
to serve as jurors will judge exhibits. Three jurors
in the Master Division will judge each exhibits. In
the Professional Division and Novice Divisions,
evaluation shall be carried out by a single juror.
Evaluation of exhibits entered for the competition
is carried out in accordance with a standardized
set of judging criteria (app. 1). A copy of the
evaluation will be given to the competitor. Documentation, such as photos of the preparation
of the exhibit by the competitor, will be taken
into account in the judging. DVDs and videos
cannot be accepted as documentation. Professional Division and Novice Divisions exhibitors
are permitted to use conventionally accepted
trade forms (mannequins) and reproduction parts
from supply companies. In the Master Division,
mounts must have been generated from a shape
or form produced by the competitor him/herself,
or be made of a conventional trade form which
has been significantly changed in various sections. All exhibited and visibly constructed parts,
such as the nose or the palate, must have been
made by the competing taxidermist in person. An
exception is made for ears. On submission, the
competitor must fill out a form listing the individual features worked on. In the Reproductions and
Re-Creations category, it is forbidden to use any
natural parts for the species and creatures being
portrayed. All competitors have the right to enter an unlimited number of exhibits. Mystical and
fantastic mounts are not allowed! Also pets such
as cats and dogs are excluded from the competition. When registering, competitors are obliged to
state the division and category of competition for
which the exhibit is to be entered. Each exhibit
can be entered in one division/category only.
Submission of registration signifies the entrant’s
acceptance of all competition conditions.
