GHB, Ketamine, Rohypnol (Date Rape Drugs)
Do you know?
What they are:
• Perpetrators use date rape drugs to
make sexual assault easier by causing
victims to become weak, confused,
and possibly pass out.

GHB, KETAMINE, ROHYPNOL (Date Rape Drugs)
• Sexual assault is any physical
contact of a sexual nature without
consent. The perpetrator may be an
acquaintance or a stranger.
• Experts prefer the term
“drug-facilitated sexual assault” rather
than “date rape drugs.”
• About 25 percent of women who
report being raped believe drugs
were a factor in the assault.
• It’s difficult to prove if a daterape drug has been used because victims do not
remember what has happened and may only seek
medical attention days after the assault. By that
time, the drugs have left the body.
• Alcohol can also be used as a “date rape drug”
because it affects judgment and behaviour.
• These drugs are used on females and males.
• The effects of these drugs can take place very quickly.
Forms:
• GHB – (G, Georgia Home Boy, Grievous Bodily
Harm, Liquid Ecstasy, Soap, G-Juice, Bedtime
Scoop, Easy Lay, Salt Water) – Can be a clear liquid,
white powder, tablet or capsule. It is colourless and
odorless. When not diluted or masked in a drink, it
has a salty/soapy taste.
• Ketamine – (Special K, Horse Tranquilizer, Super K,
K-Hole, Kit Kat, Cat Valium, Jet, Purple, Bump) – Can
be a white powder or liquid. May be substituted in
tablets sold as “ecstasy.”
• Rohypnol – (Roofies, Rope,
Forget-Me-Pill, Mexican Valium,
Roche, Roach, Trip-and-Fall,
Lunch Money, Circles) – Can be
a small white tablet imprinted
with the word “Roche,” which
is odorless and colourless. New
forms of the tablet are greengrey and have been treated to
turn clear drinks bright blue and
make dark drinks look cloudy.

Effects
There are common effects of all three
drugs and these effects can become
more powerful if the drugs are mixed
with alcohol or other drugs:
• Dizziness
• Confusion and memory problems
• Nausea and vomiting
• Problems seeing and lack of coordination
• Slurred speech
• Problems breathing
• Loss of consciousness (passing out)
• Feeling helpless and unable to refuse sex due to the above
GHB – Effects start in about 15 minutes and last 3–4
hours. In low doses, it can produce feelings of relaxation
and relieve anxiety. In larger doses the person can initially
feel quite drunk and lose consciousness. This can lead to
coma and even death.
Ketamine – Effects occur very quickly and last about 8
hours. Memory problems are common, but the person
may recall what happened. The drug can leave the person
aware of what is happening, but unable to move. It can
also cause hallucinations and a loss of reality. Overdose
is common and can lead to unconsciousness, coma and
even death.
Rohypnol – Effects start in about 30 minutes and can last several hours. The drugged person appears impaired. Use can lead to coma and death if mixed with alcohol or other drugs.
A person’s experience with any drug can vary. Some things that may affect the experience: the
amount and strength of the drug, the setting, a
person’s mood and expectations before taking the
drug, gender, overall health, past experience with the
drug, and whether more than one drug is being used
at the same time. Using alcohol and other drugs at
the same time can be dangerous.
Signs you may have
been drugged
Many victims are unaware they have
been drugged or were sexually
assaulted. Others may show the following signs:
• Feeling drunk without having
consumed alcohol or feeling more
drunk than expected or is usual.
• Waking up and feeling very
hungover or confused and not
remembering periods of time.
• Remembering having a drink but
not anything after that.
• Finding clothing torn or not
properly adjusted.
• Feeling as though sex occurred,
but not remembering details.
