From Your
President
Bob Magrann
Dear Members,
As this season winds down,
we are already working to
make sure the next one exceeds
your already high expectations.
But, before we begin a discussion about the future, let me
extend a large thank you to
our departing Board Members,
John Lyncheski, Frank Besson
and Tom Robertson, for their
unselfish service to the Club.
I also want to thank all of our
Committee Members, Chairs and
Board Liaisons for their dedication, effort and contributions
which make Quail Creek a Club
in every sense of the word. Quail
Creek is fortunate to have an
involved, caring and talented
membership and your service is
much appreciated!
Our recent membership drive
proved to be a huge success. We
are happy to welcome all of our
new members to our exceptional
Club. You will find their pictures
in the centerfold of this newsletter. Be sure to give them a warm
Quail Creek welcome.
At the recent Town Hall
Meeting we discussed replacement of the irrigation system
on both courses, as well as
renovating the current Fitness
Center to create a “Sports and
Spa Center” and expanding and
renovating the casual Greenside
Grille. Your Board is working to
develop an action plan for each
of these projects.
Before we could start, we
realized that we had to amend
one of our Bylaws. A Special
Meeting for April 29 was called
and a proxy sent to all Class A
voters. Your response to our
proxy request has been overwhelmingly successful, yielding
more votes than anyone can
recall in our history.
Our next step will be to
generate another proxy request
asking for your approval to
pursue debt to finance our irrigation system and golf course
improvements and, to a lesser
extent, our other planned capital
projects. You will be receiving
a membership letter and proxy
detailing the process, rates and
terms of a loan.
All of this activity will support
significant changes to make
sure Quail Creek Country Club
remains “Everything a country
club should be.” We plan to
continue our position as a tier
one club, which will enhance
our ability to market ourselves
in a competitive environment.
Stu Hodgson, Treasurer and
Elmer Laydon, Chair of Long
Range Planning, join the Board
for the first time. I will be
returning to the Board as your
President. I will do all in my
power to justify your faith in me.
I welcome our new members,
who have made a brilliant decision to join our great Club! And,
I thank all of you, our members.
You are the ones who make this
Club special. We will work hard
to deserve your trust.

We Thank You!
The continuing success of
our Club is, in large measure,
attributable to the fine people
who have been willing to serve
on the Board. The Directors

and generously of their time and

Dear Members,
The weather may have been
colder than normal these past
few months, but the season
sizzled.
As some of our members
head for their northern homes,
the activity will start to slow
down. But, for those members
who stay here in the Naples
area, we know you’ll continue to
enjoy all the amenities the Club
has to offer. The golf courses
are active and the dining venues
buzz. Quail Creek Country Club
is fortunate to have a significant
number of members who stay
here year round and keep Club
life vibrant.
WOW...
The first of May marks the
beginning of the reciprocal
season. We welcome all our
reciprocals and are pleased to
announce the return of the Club
at Mediterra and Hideout Golf
Club. These, and many other
fine clubs, are offering golf and/
or dining to Quail Creek Country
Club members this summer. We
have the opportunity to play golf
and dine with them and they can
do the same here.
Bocce, an outdoor game
where participants roll balls
toward a smaller ball, known as
a pallino, has taken Southwest
Florida by storm. Bocce leagues

What’s On the Web
We are excited to announce the
newest tool in QCCC’s digital tool
belt…our Facebook page. Maybe
new isn’t the word. It existed,
but was more than a little frayed
around the edges. Enter our digital
heroine, Jennifer May. Jennifer
joined us early in April as our
Jennifer May
Digital Marketing Specialist and
our webmaster. In this position,
Jennifer has many challenges ahead. She will
be redesigning the public side of our website;
marketing our Club using Google and other search
engines to reach our target audiences; enhancing
our presence on social media and using these
tools to enhance the Club experience for current
and potential members; keeping all digital media
content current and correct; handling the posting
of pictures, posters and other information on the
website; and serving on the Membership and the
Communications Committees. And, this is just the
beginning….

have formed at many clubs,
involving hundreds of their
members. We, too, have decided to install two Bocce
courts in front of the Tennis
facility. Construction will start in
September with completion by
the end of the month. Enhancing
our planned Sports and Spa
Center at the south end of our
campus, these courts will give
our members a new place to
mingle and enjoy the game and
each other!
The excitement continues
to build. The Club has been
able to recruit over 56 new golf
members in just one month’s
time. We feel this is just the
beginning. Quail Creek Country
Club has a compelling story to
tell and we are still in the first
chapter. This is a very exciting
time to be part of Quail Creek
and you, the member, deserve to
be proud of what we are doing
and where we are going. The
best is yet to come.
One of her first initiatives was to revamp our
Facebook presence and bring some excitement to
the page. She has some intriguing plans in store,
including Facebook-only offers and teasers. Don’t
miss out. Make sure you search on Facebook for
“Quail Creek Country Club Naples” and when
you land on our page, “Like” us. And “like” it, we
think, you will. Our Facebook page is evolving
quickly into a digital presence that will have you
saying, “Wow!”
To Doug Welsh, our Director of Tennis, who
served as our webmaster for the past three years,
we send our thanks. Doug put in countless hours
on this digital project. He, especially, joins the rest
of us in welcoming Jennifer as part of our QCCC
team.
After this issue, she will have one more responsibility…writing this column. WOW will continue to
keep you informed of what we have on our digital
tool belt that will make your QCCC experience
the best that it can be. Wherever you travel this
summer, you can always be in touch!
Dear Members,
Take advantage of our Summer
Lesson Series. They may be used
by couples or entire families.
Take 10 hours of lessons for just
$400. Choose half hour or hour
long lessons to improve your
driving, chipping, putting and any
other aspect of your game. Family
members can share the time if
they wish, and the High-Tech
Learning Center is available to
use on the hot and/or rainy days.
If you would like to have
a Pro play in your group this
summer, just give us a couple of
days notice. I recently played a
round with three members, and
couldn’t believe the negative self
talk I heard from these otherwise
intelligent men. Modesty and
self-effacing humor are not bad
things, but ongoing negative
thinking and verbalization is not
going to help anyone. I heard:
“I am the worst chipper, I just
can’t do it.”
“I’m really struggling with my
swing, it’s a battle just to make a
backswing.”
“My putting stinks, I’m afraid I
can’t make anything.”
“I’m so bad I don’t even want
to play or practice.”
I know from my own experience that when I lose my inner
peace, I lose confidence. Then
I lose my ability to stay focused
and all the joy goes out of the
game. Here is a quote from
myspiritofgolf.com:
“It makes no sense to criticize
ourselves for a golf shot we
don’t like until we are willing to
praise ourselves for every one
that goes our way. And the irony
is, once we start sensing in our
bodies how wonderful praise or
any positive emotion feels, we’ll
no longer have any tolerance
for the self-blame and abuse
which can feel nothing other
than toxic and raw. In a game
that ultimately plays itself out as
a match to our emotions, there
cannot be a happy ending to an
unhappy journey. Nor is there a
journey that will not exceed our
expectations when we are tapped
into our happiness along the

Local Golf Rule Change
The Golf Committee has
made a change in the local rule
concerning 150 yard Poles: If
your ball hits a 150 yard pole
it will be played as “rub of the
green” and you will play your
ball as it lies. This translates
to: Play the 150 yard poles as
if they are trees and whatever
happens is just good or bad
luck. You can still remove them
if they are in your line of play.

MGA News
The MGA has had quite a spring. Although the weather has been
cool at times, the golf and camaraderie have never been better.
The 30th Annual Men’s Invitational was held March 21–23. Without
a doubt, this was the best Invitational in many years. Mike Dero
and Ted Monty, along with their staffs, put on a fabulous show for
our guests from all over the country. Our congratulations go out to
Winners Tom Redmond and his guest Andrew Sommer and Second
Place Winners, Peter Lavoy and his guest Howard Rubinger.
As a follow up to the last Quail Trails, the winning Ryder Cup
Team was Sweden, captained by John Gagné and Bob Covino;
followed by Team England and Team Italy. The Ryder Cup, again,
proved to be Quail Creek’s finest Member Tournament.
The Kings Classic, chaired by Jerre Creske and Bill Pescod, was
held on April 12 and 13. Gross Division Winners were Jeff Darwish
and Dan Curran. Net Winners were Terry Sullivan and Bill Westrick.
This years Skill’s Challenge was held on April 20. Dean Solowin
and Bernie Hirl coordinated the event which featured winners of
MGA events and the Ryder Cup.
On April 27, the winning team and two closest to the pin winners
of the MGA Closing Day Two-By-Four Scramble won lunch and
a round of golf at Calusa Pines with Mike Dero and Calusa Pines
member, David Quibell.
Many thanks to Bill Westrick for his dedication in serving as
President for the 2012–2013 season. I would also like to thank
outgoing Directors John Lyncheski, Jerre Creske and Jim Gerali,
and welcome incoming Directors Tom Redmond, Rick Clatt and
Bill Pescod.
The MGA continues to grow, with 253 members. If you are interested in joining the MGA, please contact Tom Benua at tsbenua@

The Niners finished their 27th season with a bang! At the Annual
Meeting, President Anne Genovese reviewed the season's accomplishments and led a discussion on ways to further enhance the Niners
experience. She added that the Niners organization is now 103 ladies
strong, with 18 new members added during the season.
The Nominating Committee, chaired by Carol Baker, presented
the slate for the 2013-2014 season and it was unanimously approved.
For the next season, Anne Genovese and Mimi White will serve as
Co-Presidents; Karen Whitney will serve as Vice President; Lenora
Mountain will serve as Treasurer; and Hedy Whitney, Sally Pendleton,
Millie Perri and Helen Campobasso will serve a second year as
Secretary, Membership, Social and Golf Directors respectively.
At the Closing Day Luncheon, the Niners honored: the Niners Club
Champion and Directors Cup Champion Karen Whitney; Divas Classic
team of Dottie Stone and Charlotte Wiseman; other event winners;
and those who had chip-ins and birdies. The Niners also thanked
the Event Chairs and the many volunteers who were responsible
for the fun and festivities at our Opening Day, Niners Twilites,
Holiday Mingle, Holiday Luncheon, Divas Classic and Directors Cup.
Special thanks was given to Carol Baker for planning and running
a spectacular Invitational event, which brought many Niners from
other clubs in Collier County to our Club for a wonderful round of
golf and a delicious luncheon. In addition, Anne thanked Ann Rowles
for serving as Treasurer during the year and ensuring that our books
are in excellent shape.
The Niners Board is looking forward to next season and welcomes
all Niners as volunteers to support and participate in our events.
WGA 18 Hole News
Our 2012–2013 season has
quickly come to a close. We
enjoyed some great weather in
January and February, but March
was a bit more challenging!
The Member/Member, Queens
Classic, Member/Guest days,
Presidents Cup and the Charity
days remained our most popular
events.
All of our event Chairs did
a fabulous job this season. The
Nancy Dee Spring Charity Day,
under BJ Pagano’s direction,
when combined with donations
from prior years, brought us over
the $100,000 donation mark for
Bosom Buddies, a local cancer
support program. This is an
incredible accomplishment by
our WGA members.
A special thanks to our other
event chairs: Edie Alba, for the
March Member/Guest; Cheryl
Derman, for the Queen’s Classic;
and Leslie Willard, Connie
Rakoske and Anne Hughes, for
our Closing Day festivities. They
provided us with exciting golf
days and wonderful memories.
The variety of formats continues to
makes our WGA events so popular.
The 2013–2014 WGA Handbook
will be available once again in the
fall thanks to the hard work of
outgoing president Nancy Mattis.
Please be sure to review your information in the current Handbook
and send any changes or additions
to her via email at NancyMattis@
embarqmail.com prior to August 1,
2013. This is the WGA Handbook;
not only does it list all the WGA
members contact information, but
also contains the WGA Bylaws,
Special Event Guidelines and
yearly event calendar. Vickie will
place a copy in your locker when
it becomes available.
Kudos to our recent WGA winners: Member/Member winners Sue
Benua and Kathy Herrmann (Net)
and Pam Adamczyk and Chris Urry
(Gross) and our Presidents Cup
winner Sue Nemenz. The Women’s
Club Championship was exciting
with Pam Adamczyk declared
the winner. The winners of the
Queens Classic were Jorie Senter
and Hedy Whitney (Overall)
and Pam Adamczyk and Julia
Ricketts (Low Gross).
Our Interclub team, led by
Mary Kloet, finished in third place
and did a great job representing
Quail Creek. Congratulations to
all who participated!
During Closing Day ceremonies on April 10, Nancy
Mattis announced the new WGA
Executive Board: Sheila Melton,
President; Barbara Henry, Vice
President; Kathleen Herrmann,
Treasurer; Kathy Scancarella,
Secretary; and Jorie Senter,
Tournament Chairman.
Enjoy your summer months,
wherever you are, and we look
forward to getting together
once again for Opening Day in
November.
From the Green Committee
As our summer season at QCCC begins, excitement is in the air! Throughout the Club, your new
Committees, including Green, are looking forward
optimistically to building on the prior Committees’
successes.
We are pleased to welcome our
new Golf Course Superintendent,
Kevin Leo. Kevin, a seasoned
manager with nearly 30 years of
experience, has worked with golf
course architects Arnold Palmer
and Ed Seay, Jack Nicklaus,
Arthur Hills and P.B. Dye, among
Kevin Leo
many others. Kevin was instrumental in the design and development of the course at Old Corkscrew Golf Club,
for which he achieved the Audubon International
Silver Sanction. With a thorough knowledge of golf
course construction and grow-in from his work at
prestigious golf courses in the Bahamas and the
U.S., Kevin brings great ideas and the drive to turn
them into reality for us. As we all know, a set of
fresh eyes always offers a new perspective and a
level of excitement that generates improvement.
Our main focus will be enhancing Member
Satisfaction. All that we do will be with this thought
uppermost in our minds. Among the initiatives we
will be considering include:
• Develop plans to ensure that we will drive
reciprocal business while, at the same time, ensuring our members get the tee times they want. This
will be a win-win opportunity for the Club.
• Developing a basic set of core standards for
our courses which include speed of green, conditions of the grass, and maintenance of the tee boxes
and surrounding areas.
• We will also have a sub-committee to study
course beautification. We think this will have a
positive aesthetic impact on the course.
These are just a few items on our agenda, which
we think will enhance your golfing experience. We
hope you will see a positive and dramatic impact
on both courses. Please let us know how you think
we are doing. We want to hear from you as we
develop plans to make sure our courses take their
rightful place at the top echelon of golf courses in
Southwest Florida!

Relay for Life of Naples
The Quail Creek Country Club
Relay for Life team of members
and staff had a fantastic year. We
started with our January Dinner/
Auction, headed by Chair Marcy
Berenson, and raised over
$120,000. In April: we raffled
off a beautiful sculpture, created
and generously donated by
Quail Creek member Richard
Clinton, won by Marie and Paul
Lacy and raised over $3,200.
Our Annual Putting Contest
raised $1,100. Finalists were:
Don Hope, Richard Berenson
and Patti Smith. Our newest
fundraiser “Golf Ball Drop”
raised $12,500, thanks to winner
John Dee, who donated back
part of his winnings. The Lady
John Dee and Kate Kerwin
Niners again donated $1,200 to
Relay. We all should be proud
of our Club’s support for the
American Cancer Society as well
as the research programs and
services that these funds will
support. Thank you all.

How To Book A Reciprocal Tee Time
We have over 65 reciprocal clubs from which to choose this season with several new
clubs on our list. Keep these tips in mind to ensure a tee time at the club you choose.
1. You may request a reciprocal seven days in advance by calling the Quail Creek Golf
Shop, 597-2900, between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm (please don’t call between 7:15 am
and 8:30 am as all Golf Shop staff are busy calling other clubs).
2. The Quail Creek Golf Shop staff can only call two days in advance of your date of
play. Please wait until after 8:30 am to call and ask what tee time you received.
3. Please be aware that May 1 – May 24 are very busy days and morning times are hard to get.
4. Arrange your players and acceptable tee time parameters before calling the Golf
Shop staff and you’ll save yourself and the staff several phone calls.
5. It is best to give three course selections and a wide tee time parameter when
requesting a reciprocal. For example: 8:30 am – 11:30 am.
6. Please cancel all unwanted tee times as soon as possible.
How to Make Reciprocal Dining Reservations
Members should call the Quail Creek Country Club Receptionist at 597-2831.
