Kerr Arts & Cultural Center presents the 13th Annual Texas Furniture Makers Show® November 8—December 8, 2012 Kerr Arts & Cultural Center 228 Earl Garrett Street Kerrville, Texas 78028 830.895.2911 www.kacckerrville.com 13th Annual Texas Furniture Makers Show® The purpose of the Texas Furniture Makers’ Show® is to focus on and improve the art and craft of furniture makers in the State of Texas. This year’s Show ran from November 8th through December 8th, with the reception and awards ceremony on Saturday, November 17th. The Show® featured 63 hand crafted furniture pieces by 42 of the finest furniture makers in Texas. A panel of three qualified furniture specialists judged the entries: Randy Johnson from Eagan, MN; Philip Lowe from Beverly, MA; and Gordon McDougal from San Antonio, TX (see Judges Bio in back of catalog). In keeping with our purpose to improve the craft, Philip Lowe conducted a seminar entitled “Life Works of Philip Lowe and the Furniture Institute of Massachusetts” attended by 45 furniture makers and patrons of fine furniture. The final educational experience of the Show® was the “Judges Critique” where the judges gave constructive evaluations to each furniture maker who wished to have their pieces critiqued. The judges also explained why they selected each award-winning piece. In addition to the hand crafted furniture pieces in the Cornels and Avery Galleries, the Derby Gallery is dedicated to hand crafted accessories made by the furniture makers in the Show®. This addition to the Show® provides a formal gallery atmosphere for the furniture makers to exhibit and sell their hand crafted accessories to the public. There is no entry fee imposed on the accessories.
