DELAWARE RIVER MEMORIAL WREATH CEREMONY
The gift of flowers at a memorial site is a ritual that occurs around the world. The floral
tributes bespeak both the beauty and the brevity of life and evoke memories of our
loved ones. Please join Beverly City Mayor, Randy Miller, along with the Beverly City
Council, Mayor Mike Trainor, Edgewater Park Township along with Edgewater Park
Township Committee as we salute, honor, praise and extol the valor & courage of our
Revolutionary Soldiers at Rest.
The Dunks Ferry Wreath Laying Ceremony honors General George Washington's
Continental Navy. The U.S. Navy recognizes, October 13, 1775, as the date of the
official establishment of the Navy. It was on that date that the Continental Congress at
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, passed a Resolution creating General George Washington's
Continental Navy.

America’s White Table Ceremony
Presented By
John Loftus, USAF Retired, Red River Rat
12 Noon• SUNDAY• MAY 24TH •2015
Dunks Ferry
Historic Riverfront Park• Beverly •NJ
A little-known tradition to the outside civilian world, “the white table” originated during the time of the Vietnam
War as a symbol for and remembrance to service members held prisoner of war or missing in action. Solitary and
solemn, it is the table where no one will ever sit.
It was just a little white table….
To show one soldier’s lonely battle against many.
We cover it with a white cloth to honor a soldier’s
Pure heart when he answers his country’s call to duty.
We place a lemon slice and grains of salt on a plate.
To show a captive soldier’s bitter fate and the tears of families
Waiting for loved ones to return.
We push an empty chair to the table
For the missing soldiers who are not here.
We lay a black napkin for the sorrow of captivity,
And turn over a glass for the meal that won’t be eaten.
We place a white candle for peace and finally, a red rose
In a vase tied with a red ribbon for the hope that
All our missing will return someday.
It was just a little white table….
Adapted from the Margot Theis Raven’s book…America’s White Table
The Original Table was set by the Red River Valley Fighter Pilots
Association or “The River Rats” to remember those who did not return.
A toast of water to those who have not returned…
YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN SO LONG AS THERE IS ONE LEFT IN WHOM YOUR
MEMORY REMAINS.

2015 Grand Marshall
Madeline Nixon Moyer, United States Air Force
Madeline Nixon Moyer wanted to go into the air force ever since she was in fifth grade, in
Delanco Schools. It was her dream. Madeline even put that in her senior year book Riverside
HS when she graduated in 1964. That is what she intended to do - to serve her country.
She joined the Air Force in January 15, 1965, two weeks after her 19th birthday. They had 6
weeks of basic training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio Texas. After Madeline graduated from
basic training she was assigned to the 494th bombardment wing SAC (Strategic Air Command)
unit at Sheppard AFB Wichita Falls Texas on an ATC base (Air Training Command Base). Air
Training is where you go to learn to be an air controller or aircraft maintenance or a medic etc.
Madeline was one of three WAF's assigned to the bomb wing. She was under the commander’s
administrative services, and did a variety of duties such as maintain Air Force Manuals and
Regulations, mail, and messages. She was there one year and the Bomb Wing deactivated to
Pease AFB in New Hampshire.
There were no WAF at Pease so she was sent to 22 Bomb Wing SAC March AFB California.
Madeline was in the Base Commanders Administrative Services, and was the special orders
clerk, (typed up orders for sending airman to go to other bases or temporary orders and discharge
orders). She was also involved in an organization they started on base called CHAP (Children
have a potential) for special children. They would have events with movie stars - Bob Hope at a
golf outing and James Drury (The Virginian) at a rodeo, to help raise money for the kids.
Madeline made Sargent (E-4) while at March AFB.
5
After two years at March AFB, she got an overseas assignment to Hickam AFB Hawaii, and she
was assigned to 548 Reconnaissance Tactical Squadron, PADAF (Pacific Air Defense Analysis
Facility) in administrative intelligence. Madeline had to read all the highly classified messages
and distribute them to the right offices that were in their vault (they worked in a big vault with a
combination to get in.) The messages were analyzed and the course of action was taken for the
air war in Viet Nam. Madeline loved serving her country - the greatest country in the world.
We thank Madeline Nixon Moyer for her dedicated service to our country and to her community.
We are pleased that she has agreed to be the 2015 Grand Marshall of the 96th Annual Memorial
Day Parade.

DEAR BEVERLY CITY RESIDENTS AND VISITORS
As always, the nation pauses on this special day of remembrance to honor those men and
women who have fought and died in our Nation's service. It is a day, to reflect and to
honor those who sacrificed their lives to protect and ensure our freedom.
Freedom has never been free, and daily our military families pay the price in blood to
preserve our liberty; so we honor our fallen heroes and thank their families for their
contribution to the preservation of our Nation. So we pray, this day, for the safety of the
men and women serving in today's Armed Forces.
As Mayor of the City of Beverly, I invite all Beverly residents, and those from other
communities who are with us today, to join citizens Across America in a "National
Moment of Remembrance" at exactly 3:00 p.m. today.
As we reach out to family, friends and loved ones on this Memorial Day, May 25, 2015,
we congratulate Madeline Nixon Moyer, this year’s Memorial Day Parade Grand
Marshall. We thank her for her service to her country, her courage and for being an
outstanding American Patriot. .
I would also like to thank Paula Teixeira, a member of our Memorial Day Parade
Committee, who has spent hours compiling this beautiful Memorial Day Parade
Commemorative Book,
To all of our residents and visitors "thank you" for sharing this Memorial Day with us as
we salute, honor, praise and extol the valor and courage of our Soldiers at Rest!

REMEMBERING AND HONORING OUR VETERANS
WITH GRATITUDE

Remembering Our Fallen
Memorial Day is a day for our country to take time to remember those who have served
our nation in times of war, conflict and peace. It is imperative that we especially
remember and give thanks to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice so that we, the
people of America, can enjoy the liberties we sometimes take for granted. For many,
Memorial Day is about cookouts, parades and the unofficial beginning of summer. For
those families who have lost their beloved to the services that were so unselfishly
performed, it is a day of mourning and remembrance.
The commitment of the fallen service men and women must never be forgotten, it is
because of them and those that served before them that America is the great country it
is. Our nation was founded on a commitment to Democracy and thus was a nation born
out of war. No land on earth affords the freedom and liberties that are provided to our
citizens and without the service men and woman who stand watch night and day this
could not be possible.
It is important to remember our heroes that gave their lives for us; however I would be
remiss in not thanking those currently serving our country and the families that sacrifice
their lives to allow their loved ones to protect us. The parents that raise children as
single parents, the children who live with a parent in danger, the mother and father
hoping they never get the dreaded call, the brothers, sisters, friends and everyone
connected to our soldiers, their sacrifice is just as real as our brave service men and
women.
9
I would like to personally thank the fallen, the missing, the active soldiers and their
families and friends for their service and the protection that they provide. It is only
because of the men and women who have worn their uniform to defend our nation that
we are here today and you are all heroes for providing the blanket of security under
which we all rest.
Next time you see someone wearing their uniform or a hat showing that they served,
take a second to thank them for their service, not just today but every day. They
appreciate it and quite frankly it is the least anyone who has not served can do.
On behalf of the members of the Edgewater Park Township Committee, I would like to
thank all that have served, currently serve and their families and friends. I would also
like to thank everyone that helped make today possible. Thank you and have a safe
holiday.

In Flanders Fields
written by John McCrae in 1915:
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead.
Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved,
and now we lie In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
In 1922, the Veterans of Foreign Wars became the first veterans'
organization to sell poppies nationally for Memorial Day. Two
years later their "Buddy" poppy program began selling artificial
poppies made by disabled veterans.
