Select a trailer with a higher Gross Vehicle Weight
Rating (GVWR) than you expect to carry. GVWR is
the weight of the trailer plus payload capacity. To
determine the maximum load you can carry, deduct
the trailer’s weight from the GVWR.
Evaluate the Tow Vehicle
What is the maximum towing weight of your vehicle?
This information is located in the vehicle owner’s
manual, or you can contact your local dealer.
Check for Proper Licensing
and Registration
The customer is responsible for properly licensing
and registering the trailer. Also, make sure that you
are complying with federal, state and local regulations. A Lowe’s associate will check with WKLN for
state specific requirements.
Licensing Your Trailer:
When you purchase your trailer you will receive a
MSO, (Manufacturer Statement of Origin). Take this
to your local license bureau with your bill of sale and
you will receive your title. Laws may vary from state
to state.
4 Step Guide To
Ordering Your Trailer:
1. Determine the size and weight of what you
want to carry in or on your new trailer.
2. Determine the size and weight of your tow
vehicle and how much weight you can tow.
3. Determine the size of the coupler that is on
your new trailer. The ball on the tow vehicle
must be the same size as the hitch coupler
on the trailer.
4. Decide if you need an enclosed trailer or
utility trailer.
