practices, such as its use of 100% wind
energy and alternative transportation
programs. Central is an official “Green
Power Partner” of the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency, and won the EPA’s
Green Power Challenge for its athletic
conference the past three years.
The UCO Broncho athletic teams compete
in the Mid-America Intercollegiate
Athletics Association conference. The
university’s athletics program has a rich
tradition of success, most recently winning
the 2013 NCAA Division II National
Softball Championship and playing in its
first Division II football bowl game in 2014.

informed from the beginning of your

An endowed scholarship fund, established
by the association, provides scholarship
opportunities to Central students every
year. Each spring semester, students
can apply for these scholarships and the
recipients are notified via email if they
receive any award. For the past four years,
students have been awarded $2,000 in
scholarships. ■
The Parent Association cares about
your student. Our helpline for parents
and family members of UCO students
is a central resource for you to call with
questions ranging from academic life to
Student Affairs. The helpline is available
8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday – Friday at

Career Services
The UCO Career Services counseling staff
meets with students Mondays – Fridays
through scheduled appointments and
during non-appointment/walk-in hours on
specific days. Counselors advise current
and former students on issues such as
selecting majors, identifying careers
related to majors, writing resumes,
and searching for internships and jobs.
Assessments help students understand
themselves better and assist them in
choosing majors or careers to pursue.
Those seeking internship or full-time
employment opportunities will find

HireBronchos.com especially helpful. It is a
database from which students may search
for internships and jobs. Resumes are
electronically referred upon employers’
requests, and interviews are scheduled
when recruiters come to campus.
UCO Career Services also hosts fall and
spring career and internship fairs, the
Grad and Professional School Fair, Career
Quest: Discover Your Major Fair, and the
Teacher Job Fair. Go to careers.uco.edu,

Center for Counseling
and Well-Being
The University of Central Oklahoma’s
Student Center for Counseling & WellBeing helps students deal more effectively
with personal concerns or situations, such
as coping with friendships, divorce or a
break-up, anxiety, depression, academic
difficulties, career change, adjustment
to college life, and alcohol and drug
counseling, prevention and education.
The Center for Counseling and Well-Being

Involvement in student organizations
gives students the opportunity to
positively impact the University of Central
Oklahoma. With more than 200 student
organizations, it’s easy for a student

and special interest, there is something
for everyone. Plus, students can create
their own new student organization.
It is important for students to become
engaged on campus, and joining a
student organization is key to being
successful outside the classroom.

Office of Global Affairs
The Office of Global Affairs (OGA) provides
assistance to international students from
the time they first inquire about Central,
through admission, enrollment, their
studies and ultimately through graduation
and beyond. Through its Centre for Global
Competency, the OGA reaches out to
both domestic and international students
to connect them with each other and
the community through unique “Glocal”
(Global + Local) experiences. ⊲

current employment market. The CGC also
sponsors the “Glocal” programs where
we connect our international students
with the American students in a series of
interactive activities, cultural simulations,
conversations and mentorships. More than
150 students are currently learning from
other cultures right here in Oklahoma.
Central students can also gain an extra
competitive advantage by completing our
Global Competency Certification program.
This program keeps track of all the
international related activities, education
abroad experiences, and language
acquisition with the purpose to create a
meaningful transcript that students can
provide at the time of a job interview to
complement their resumes.
Office of Diversity and Inclusion
The OGA is a centralized office of support
for its students, housing many full-time
staff and assistants who specialize in
admissions processing, immigration
advising, intercultural activities, etc. With
a “full service” mindset, the OGA cares for
its students with passion and expertise,
working to ensure that all are equipped to
be able to achieve real transformational
success and become creative, ethical and
engaged leaders for communities around

Centre for Global Competency
The Centre for Global Competency (CGC)
connects students to opportunities such
as international internships, service
learning activities outside the U.S., and
study abroad programs in more than 15
countries in Europe, Central America,
and Asia. Unlike any other study abroad
office, our mission does not stop in
just sending students abroad; we are
determined to create globally competent
students that can offer the necessary

Volunteer and Service
Learning Center
The Volunteer and Service Learning
Center provides opportunities for students
to perform meaningful service throughout
the Oklahoma City metro area. The
center acts as a partner and resource
for students, faculty and community
members in developing and implementing
volunteer and service learning projects.
These efforts promote civic engagement
by instilling a commitment to public life
through communities of practice. Call

Commuter Student Services
The office of Off-Campus Life serves as
an advocate for commuter, off-campus
and non-traditional students’ issues, while
providing the necessary resources to help
them become more active and engaged
participants within their community.
Services include an off-campus housing
service; resources for GetAroundOk,
a carpool/rideshare system; childcare
information; City of Edmond resources
such Citylink and Metro transit maps; and
the Find-a-Roommate Program. This office
advises the Off-Campus Ambassadors
Program and Bronchos with Kids.
Off-Campus Life offers a large variety of
programs such as family-friendly events,
Surviving Life Off-Campus, Off-Campus
Housing and Living Fair, Commuter
Student Appreciation Week, Relationship
U, FORGE Transfer Orientation and many

Campus Activities
The Campus Activities office guides
students to discover their highest
potential through leadership experiences,
memorable programs and cultivating
lasting relationships. The Campus
Activities staff offers a safe outlet and
inclusive environment that celebrates
tradition while taking pride in a spirit of
exemplary service.
The goal is to not only get your students
involved on campus by either planning
or attending programs, but to learn
and take away festive memories of
their time at Central. There are almost
600 unique leadership and volunteer
positions available in the many clubs
and organizations representing Campus
Activities. From being an Orientation
Leader, to being a cheerleader,
volunteering at a Student Programming
Board concert, or helping build a
Homecoming float, there is something for
everyone in Campus Activities. Call

Admissions
The path to academic success at the
University of Central Oklahoma begins
with the admission process. Students
will continue to use the services of
Undergraduate Admissions throughout
their college careers.
Although most services are available
online, students should visit this office
when they need personalized services.
The Office of Undergraduate Admissions
is located in the Nigh University Center,

Academic Advisement
Our freshman advisors will work with
students to plan their first academic year
and to point them toward graduation.
Once students have completed 24
semester hours, they will be assigned
to one of our academic advisors who

specializes in their program area.
The Center for Undergraduate Academic
Advisement is located in the Nigh
University Center, Room 121. Advising
appointments are offered Monday through

Office of Student Success
The Student Success office wants to help
your student become a college graduate!
We are here to help your student
navigate UCO and provide assistance
when challenges arise so they can reach
the finish line. Help your students by
encouraging them to “Think 30!” and take
at least 30 hours each year. With their
Central degree in hand, their dreams can
become a reality. ■

The Office of First-Year Experience
Programs (FYE) is a resource center
where students should feel comfortable
coming and asking for help.
The FYE Office is also responsible
for many programs intended to help
students start on the right foot, including
Enrollment Central, UCO House Calls and
our freshman success course, Success
Central.
UNIV 1012, Success Central, is a unique
course designed to give first-year students
a head start with their college experience.
The course introduces students to
Central’s facilities, services, activities,
traditions, and academic expectations. It
will also help students establish a sense

of community with other students, faculty,
and staff.
Additionally, the FYE office administers
College Placement Tests (CPTs) to
determine course placement in the areas
of math, English, and reading. For students
required to take these placement tests we
also offer preparation and study materials
to ensure that they perform at their very
best. The FYE office is also the place to
visit for students to make and receive their
UCO Student ID Card.

UCO Housing and Dining Services works
to provide a safe and secure home
on campus, encourages community,
promotes diversity, provides leadership
opportunities, enhances character, and
connects students and faculty.
Dining on campus provides students
with a great community environment and
healthy food options. Our meal plans are
designed to provide quality food that
meets our students’ demanding schedules
and lifestyles. Students in all housing
options, except the Commons, are
required to purchase a meal plan.

Student Financial
Services
The Student Financial Services office,
located in NUC 141, is available to
help students meet their educational
expenses.
should receive an award notification and
have funds available by the tuition and fee
payment deadline (the Friday prior to the
first day of classes).
As most families qualify for some financial
aid, students should apply even if they
don’t think they are eligible. If students
don’t qualify for federal income grants,
they may be eligible for work-study
programs or scholarships.
Students not meeting these deadlines may
not have funds available by the tuition and
fee payment deadline, therefore a charge
of $40 may be added as a tuition payment
late fee.
Types of aid include grants (financial aid
that you do not have to pay back), federal
work-study (students earn money while
working on or off campus) and loans
(borrowed money that must be repaid
with interest). The Student Financial
Services office offers services that include
application assistance, online review of aid
status and debt management.
To be considered for counseling
assistance students must have applied
for admission to UCO and submitted an
application for financial aid through the
Free Application for Federal Student Aid
(FAFSA). Students must resubmit the
FAFSA yearly. For priority processing
consideration, students should have
their FAFSA processed and all requested
information/documents submitted no
later than the listed deadlines. Students
meeting these deadlines, if eligible,

The UCO Wellness Center leads the way
on a variety of healthy campus initiatives
including our recent transition to a
tobacco-free campus.
The Wellness Center also provides a
state of the art workout facility, intramural
sports, personal and group training,
outdoor recreation opportunities and
much more, all intended to enhance the
well-being of our students, faculty, staff
and the community.
Located in the Wellness Center, the Mercy
Clinic at UCO is a health facility where
students, faculty and staff can access
medical care when they need it. Services

Parking Decal
To order parking decals, students must
have their UCONNECT login information
and the license plate numbers for all
vehicles they register.
Decals are ordered online as follows:

3. Students will need to pick up their
decal from the Transportation and
Parking Services Office (NUC 309).
Eco-Friendly Alternatives
Central’s Connect by Hertz car-share
program currently uses a Chevy Cruz
and a Fiat 500, which are parked in
two different locations on campus. To
participate in the program, users must
apply online at hertzondemand.com.
Approved members will receive a Hertz
on Demand card to unlock the rental

cars by simply swiping it over the car’s
reader. The car-share program isn’t
Central’s only alternative transportation
initiative. The university’s successful
GreenRide carpooling program, which
recently merged with Oklahoma City’s
GetAroundOK, provides Central students,
staff and faculty a way to connect with
others in the Oklahoma City metro area
for carpool and rideshare options. Another
successful “green” initiative at Central is
the Bum-A-Bike program, which allows the
Central community to borrow a bike, free
of charge, from the Cycology Bike Shop
located in the basement of Murdaugh Hall.
The Office of Information Technology
(OIT) strives to enhance learning, improve
service and communication, and increase
student, faculty, staff and community
access to useful information through
technology.
The OIT serves the campus community in

tab at uco.edu and clicking on the “IT Help
Desk” link to submit an online request
for technical assistance. Many questions
directed to IT can be answered from within
a student’s UCONNECT page on the
“Virtual Help Desk” tab.
The IT Help Desk is located in the
Chambers Library in the northwest corner
of the first floor. Walk-up service hours
are 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through
Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, and
10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. Service calls
to (405) 974-225 are answered from
7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through
Thursday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday
and Saturday. Additional support is also
available in the Central Tech Store, located
in the Nigh University Center. Students

Disability Support
Services
The mission of the Office for Disability
Support Services is to provide and
coordinate mandated support services,
auxiliary aids and accommodations
for students with disabilities, which
allow them to gain equal access to an
education.
This office also serves as a resource to
the university community and promotes
awareness so that these students can
participate in all facets of university life.

Central Alert
Central Alert is UCO’s emergency
notification system. It allows authorized
UCO officials to send news and
instructions simultaneously to individuals
through landline phones, cellular phones,
text messaging and email, as well as popup messages to campus computers.
We encourage students to update their
contact information through either the
Central Alert Channel or the Personal
Information Channel on the “Home” tab in
UCONNECT (uconnect.uco.edu).
To receive text alerts and or closing/
weather alerts through the Central Alert
system, students must opt-in by providing
a text-enabled, text message phone
number through UCONNECT. They can
also add their parents’ numbers to allow
their parents to receive the alerts. Look
for the “My Central Alert” option within

If your student is having issues with a roommate, meal plan or living arrangements

All students are initially seen by Central’s freshman advisement staff. Upon

advisor is should visit the Center for Undergraduate Academic Advisement.

There are two forms you and your student must sign in order for you to have
access to any of their records. Contact the Undergraduate Admissions Office at

Students can access their grades online through their UCONNECT account.

Your student has an email account automatically set up for them through
the UCONNECT portal. If your student is unsure of their UCONNECT login

Step-by-step instructions are provided for retrieval of a UCONNECT username
and password.

If my student needs to miss class due to illness, injury
or family emergency, what should he or she do?
A
In case of emergency or illness, students should contact their professor or the
college dean’s office for assistance. In the event of an anticipated long-term
absence, students can also contact the Student Conduct Office for assistance at

How can my student find information about campus jobs?
A
The key to finding employment at the university is showing willingness to work

How does UCO address drug and alcohol use and abuse?
A
University of Central Oklahoma is a “dry campus.” We do not allow alcohol in
campus housing or at student events on campus. Drug and alcohol abuse is not
tolerated at the university, and students in violation are subject to appropriate
disciplinary sanctions. Several peer education programs are in place to educate
students on issues related to drug and alcohol use and abuse.
