Big Rock
Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory.
Big Rock Plowing Match festival.
CITY OF BATAVIA
VILLAGE OF BIG ROCK
The oldest city in Kane County, recently named
one of the top 100 Best Small Cities in America by
CNNMoney.com, remains as picturesque as when
it made the cover of the Saturday Evening Post in
1958. Once the leading windmill manufacturing
community in the world, it pays homage with
historical windmills that dot the landscape.
Batavia is a town filled with annual events
including the 4th of July Fireworks, Windmill City
Festival and seasonal farmers market. Home
to Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, the
world-renowned center for high energy physics
research. Batavia is filled with art, culture and
hometown adventures.
Locals know this charming village with its rich
agricultural history and tradition as the bestkept secret around. Picturesque pastures,
peaceful neighborhoods and a big-hearted
community combine with century-old churches,
Victorian homes, breathtaking parks, forest
preserves and a 122-year-old annual Big Rock
Plowing Match to provide plenty of authentic
Americana. You can invite serenity as you cast
a line at the fishing quarry, or experience a
refreshing and revitalizing weekend retreat at
Esther’s Place, a fiber arts studio in an 1895
Victorian style home. Big Rock still retains a
“get-away-from-it-all” atmosphere.

Rural village with railroad roots
Along the Fox River
Hinckley Montgomery
Experience quintessential rural America in charming Hinckley.
Scenic bike trails, canoeing and water activities along the Fox River.
VILLAGE OF HINCKLEY
VILLAGE OF MONTGOMERY
Francis Hinckley founded the community in the
1870s, when a railway line was put down on the
prairie connecting it to the rest of the country.
Hinckley also has the distinction of being the
location of the first Harlem Globetrotters away
game in 1927. Visitors come from far and near to
savor the barbeque at South Moon Barbeque or
to grab a bite at Dairy Joy, a little piece of heaven
where the treats are as sweet as the welcoming
smiles. Feel the exhilaration of soaring through
the skies in a high performance sailplane with
the Windy City Soaring Association, located at
the Hinckley Airport. Hinckley offers plenty of
down-home food and adventure.
Recognized with a Governor’s Home Town Award
for the restoration and preservation of Settler’s
Cottage, the 1840s home of its enterprising
founder, Daniel S. Gray, Montgomery is the
perfect location for fishing, biking and hiking
along the Fox River. Each summer, Montgomery
Fest brings together neighbors and friends
from throughout the area to enjoy a weekend
of old-fashioned family fun. Held the second
weekend in August, highlights of the festival
include musical performances, carnival rides,
a wide range of food vendors, free pony rides
and petting zoo, a fishing derby, a car show
and a parade. Experience the beauty of scenic
Montgomery.

VILLAGE OF NORTH AURORA
Bike paths, picturesque views, and parks line the scenic Fox River with its rookeries of herons,
ducks and songbirds. Explore Devil’s Cave, learn maple syruping, spot bald eagles and more at
Red Oak Nature Center, with its 40 acres of lush forest and wildlife habitat. North Aurora is also
home to North Aurora Days, a fun-filled weekend of activities, plus unique shopping and dining
opportunities. North Aurora offers a growing culinary experience from classic home-style cooking to
sustainable gastropub and is the home of Oberweis Dairy where you can see their famous ice cream
being made while enjoying a frozen treat. North Aurora is located at the crossroads on the Fox.

Tranquil respite to urban life
Lush and green
Plano Sugar Grove
Farnsworth House.
Bliss Creek Golf Club.
CITY OF PLANO
VILLAGE OF SUGAR GROVE
The Farnsworth House is architect Ludwig
Mies van der Rohe’s ultimate minimalist
masterpiece. This stellar floor-to-ceiling
glass structure is one of the most significant
examples of modernist residential architecture
in the world. Nearby Silver Springs State Fish
and Wildlife Area offers picnicking, fishing and
hiking in summer, with ice fishing, sledding, ice
skating and cross-country ski trails in winter.
The Homestead 1854 boutique inn is a tranquil
respite from urban life. Warner Brothers and
DC Comics chose Plano to represent“Smallville”
in the 2013 Superman movie “Man of Steel”
and is celebrated at the Superfest in August.
Plan your next stellar trip to Plano!
Sugar Grove is as sweet as the name suggests,
with its lush greenery, meandering roads and
small-town feel. Sugar Grove is named for the
many groves of sugar maples found in the area.
Enjoy a round of golf on emerald greens or visit
the Sugar Grove Historical Society, housed in
the 1838 Bliss House Museum. Interact with
the nearby Bliss Woods’ woodland habitats and
wetlands by hiking or biking on the Virgil L.
Gilman Trail. Hometown fun is found at the
annual Sugar Grove Corn Boil in July with the
sweetest sweet corn and loads of family fun.
Life is as sweet as it gets in Sugar Grove!

In addition to the exciting midway, livestock judging and other fair events, it’s wonderful to simply stroll
along the beautiful tree-lined grounds and historic buildings. Entertainment abounds in downtown
Sandwich, from a bounty of antique and specialty shops to completely unique eateries and fine art
performances. Enjoy dinner in the Bull Moose Bar & Grille’s 1893 Pullman Palace Car Company dining
car, once used by President Theodore Roosevelt, or catch a show at the historic Sandwich Opera House
featuring family-friendly theatre. You’ll be amazed in Sandwich!
