Felder finished the regular season leading the Horizon League in scoring with an average of 24.4 points per game and led the nation in assists, averaging 9.4 per contest. The Detroit, Mich.-native is aiming to become the first player since Davidson’s Stephen Curry (28.6 ppg, 5.6 apg) in 2008-09 to average over 34.0 points-plus-assists per game. The 2014 HL Freshman of the Year has 292 assists this season and needs 14 more to break the HL mark of 305 that has stood since the 1984-85 season. Felder broke the League’s career assists record on Feb. 11, and with 760 career assists currently, he can now turn his attention towards chasing the NCAA DI career assists mark of 1,076 set by Duke’s Bobby Hurley (1989-93). Felder marks the fourth consecutive season a point guard has been named Horizon League Player of the Year (Keifer Sykes, Green Bay - 2014 & 2015; Ray McCallum, Detroit - 2013).Valparaiso’s Ryan Broekhoff in the 2011-12 season was the last non-point guard to win HL Player of the Year. Valparaiso clinches regular season title for fourth time in five seasons: Valparaiso, the Horizon League preseason favorite, clinched the outright regular season title and #1 seed in the Little Caesars Men’s Basketball Championship. The regular season title is the fourth in five seasons for Valpo. The Crusaders are 65-19 (.774) in Horizon League regular season play since the 2011-12 season.Valpo’s 16-2 record in League play this season is the best mark for an HL team since the 2009-10 Butler team went 18-0 in the HL en route to a national runner-up finish in the NCAA Tournament. Felder and Fouse climb to top of HL record book: Oakland junior guard Kay Felder became the HL’s career assists leader on Feb. 11 as he surpassed Xavier’s Ralph Lee (1982-86) who was the previous record holder with 699 career assists. The five-team HL player of the week this season has 736 career helpers and still has this year and his senior season as he begins the chase of the NCAA mark of 1,076 set by Duke’s Bobby Hurley (1989-93). Green Bay senior foward Jordan Fouse became the HL’s career steals leader on Feb. 20. He now has 2 career steals, surpassing the previous mark of 246 set by Youngstown State’s Kendrick Perry. If two tied teams met twice during the regular season and one of the two won both games, the winner shall be awarded the higher seed. 2. If two tied teams split in two games during the regular season, compare each team’s record against the team occupying the highest position in the standings and continue down through the standings until one team gains the advantage, thereby winning the higher position. 3. If three or more teams are tied, compare the combined record of each of the tied teams agains the other teams involved in the tie until an advantage is gained. (Example: Team A’s combined record against both Team B and Team C as compared to Team B’s combined record against both A and C, etc.) 4. If the provision of (3) above fail to resolve a tie involving three or more teams, compare each of the tied team’s records against the team occupying the highest position in the standings and continue down through the standings until the tie is reduced to a two-team tie, at which time revert to items (1) and (2) above or until the tie is broken. 5. If the above provisions fail to resolve a tie, the team with the higher RPI for that season will receive a higher seed (source for RPI: Collegiate Basketball News).
