come and just watch them delight in the hunt.

MEETINGS at 7:00 pm since attendance by participants is much
better when held then. (still the second Tuesday of each month).
Halloween in the Park: by Dee O’Gilvy
Well... Another perfect and successful event closed the
Fall season this year! Our Halloween in the Park was an
awesome evening for all who participated and stopped by
for a hot dog!!! Each year the tables just get better and
better and the costumes more creative. It seemed like
fewer kids this year and more adults enjoying the
evening! Lots of good music, thanks to Dave Moore;
yummy hot dogs cooked by Jenny and Bob Weathers
with their assistant chef Charlie Roos. Pictures by Steve
Prescott, and our hay for the hayrides delivered by Don
Stoner. Of course, we must not forget our diehard
assistants, for everything on the island -- Bill Nanstiel and
Russell Reams. Thanks to all who pitched in to set up,
tear down, clean up and assist in any way. Everyone's
help is appreciated and it makes our events so enjoyable!
The evening closed with a huge bonfire enjoyed by all
and our award for the best table/costume - the 1st place
winner was the Savino Family, who arrived on a Viking
ship complete with music, fog and in Viking costumes congratulations to Mike, Tisa, Gavin & Carson!!! Can't
wait to see what everyone comes up with next year!!!
Santa in the Park:
. . . by Ginne Bean
Even the slight drizzle that fell during the celebration
couldn’t keep the island attendees (or Santa for that
matter, who arrived just a little damp) away. The piñatas,
as usual, were a particular hit with the kids – and the kids
had a chance to write some letters to Santa and sit on his
lap for a picture taken by parents. A big thank you to all
his little island helpers who put this event together,
including: Pam Baumann, Rich & Ginnie Bean, Gayle
Brooks, Elesix Estepa, Peggy Huston, Paula Lewis, Julie
Milligan, Doris & Bill Nanstiel, Katie Parker, Kristin &
Andrew Reinlieb, Marian Shirk, Jim Singletary -- and Don
Stoner, who donated the hay for the hayride wagon.
Heads UP!

How Well Do You Know Your Neighbors!
ANSWER to Last Issue’s Puzzler: Rich Bean
... by Cheryl Class
I was born in Dearborn, MI. My dad was in
the military and then worked for Ford Motor
Company–but he died when I was only three
years old and my mother moved us to South
Florida where my grandfather lived.
I graduated from Pompano Beach High
School and started college. I worked in construction and
was a cabinet subcontractor for a while. I then went to
work for a chemical delivery service business and then
bought out the business and ran it in south Florida.
One night I went to the County Fair with a friend and
was standing in line for a ride that was broken down and
started talking to a beautiful girl in front of me. I never got
her number or gave her mine, but a little later she
happened to run into my friend and got my number from
him. We started dating and got married at age 30 and we
had 2 children.
By then south Florida was getting very crowded so we
started to look around Florida. I had friends who lived in
Deltona and we came up and visited them. We drove
onto Stone Island and fell in love with it.
We sold out business and bought a house on Stone
Island, we were looking around for a business and found
a restaurant available on the St. Johns River. Being a
boater and loving the water, it turned out that we had
actually been to that restaurant and we ended up
purchasing it. Whether I am at home or at work I can
open the sliders and see the river.
And, our whole family has now moved up to central
Florida. "If you like Florida it's hard not to fall in love with
Stone Island". We love Stone Island because it's
surrounded by nature.

The Civil War. A Glimpse Into
Our Past – The month-long Civil War display at the Heritage
Center was a huge success and the GRAND FINALE day
provided the theme for a shortened version of EPS’s annual
Fall Festival. The event included local Civil War
Reenacters, a Civil War Fashion Show, Classic & Muscle
Car Show, Food, Drink & Craft Beers, music by Jackson
Creek, a bounce house for the kids, and this year only (due
to the limited display space) just a few vendors. The 2016
Festival will be back to its usual volume of vendors and
exhibitors and will ALSO include a special “reunion” tent
where Enterprise school alumni and teachers can meet,
socialize and reminisce.
Events Coming Up:
JANUARY 2016: Local Artists’ Exhibit – Jan 2-30
Come and enjoy the creations of some of the talented local
artists who will exhibit their creations – some are offered for
purchase; others are “just for your enjoyment”. Several
Stone Island residents are participating.
FEBRUARY 2016: The Art of MPilar Vargas – Feb 2-27
Born in Colombia, MPilar Vargas currently lives in Lake Mary
and was a featured artist at the City of Orlando Hispanic
Heritage art show. MPilar explores various art techniques
involving different surfaces / processes and creates her
acrylic art on canvas, wood, and paper, as well as recycled
materials such as X-ray film and insulation foam panels.
FEBRUARY 2016: Enterprise Chili Cook-off – Feb 27
It’s time for another Chili Cook-off. Come and enjoy a day of
fun – taste the chili, check out the vendors and crafters,
enjoy the music, other food and bounce house. This is also
the final day for the display of art by of MPilar Vargas.

A TRAGEDY THAT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED!
The day after Thanksgiving, a small dog belonging to
a resident was hit and killed by a golf cart
on one of our private roads – and it left a
Stone Island family absolutely devastated.
The golf cart ran over the dog in front
of its owner and, although you could argue
that perhaps the dog should not have been loose, we live
and socialize on our roads and like to think of Stone
Island as a safe place to work, play and raise our
children. We are designated as a “golf cart
community” by Volusia County because of low
speeds and light traffic volume on our roads.
Please respect our residents, children and pets by
driving golf carts and other vehicles at a safe, sensible
speed. To some people, their pets are as precious as
children to them and their loss is deeply felt.
Speaking of children, we have noticed a lot of young
children operating golf carts lately. Although it is a good
opportunity for them to learn safe, responsible driving
habits, please be sure that they have the knowledge and
maturity to do so safely. You are responsible for their
actions. WATCH THAT SPEED!
What Can We Do Today?
I KNOW, LET’S CHECK OUT THE NEARBY TRAIL!
. . . by Roy Walters
The multi-use trail from
St. Petersburg to Titusville is
scheduled for completion in
2019. This is the popular trail
that you see in Enterprise
running along DeBary Avenue
(AKA the "bypass road") - and then crossing Providence,
Garfield, and Courtland running east, or heading west to
Lake Monroe Park. Its official name is the "Coast to
Coast (C to C) Trail."
In our area, the trail to the east temporarily ends at
Guise Road in Osteen, but will be extended to both
Titusville and Edgewater by 2018. Despite loud
opposition from a small group of Osteen residents, the
trail finally crossed SR 415 last year.
Trails like this are loved by bicyclists, walkers,
rollerbladers, runners, dog walkers, people in wheelchairs
and people pushing baby strollers. All over the U.S.,
recreational trails like this, according to realtors, are the
most asked-for amenity by people buying homes.
Imagine – 40 years ago Stone Island was
celebrating Christmas much as we do today
in the spirit of friendship and sharing:

“A BIG EVENT FOR CLUB MEMBERS: Saturday,
December 20 will be a Progressive Dinner Party. We will meet
at the Club House at 6:30 sharp for snacks and refreshments.

Theisen before December 10. We will all meet back at the club
for the dessert and some Christmas singing after the main
course.”
