Open Christmas Day

Open Christmas Day
From the Senior Director
Dear Friends,
Don’t you just LOVE when a small idea starts as a seed and grows bigger and
bigger into something wonderful? That is exactly what happened with our first
Wayne Township Fashion Show. A suggestion from a member started the concept,
a committee of enthusiastic, organized members got the ball rolling and many
people jumped in to make the Fashion Show a success. Thank you to all who were
a part of this; from contributors to our raffle, to members that agreed to model, to
the handsome men that volunteered, to Jim Kotil who volunteered to stage our
event, to the creative committee members, to Dress Barn for providing the beautiful
clothes and to Costco for donations. Thank you Wild Bill for giving us all a big
smile. It was a great TEAM effort. Thank you also to the 160 people that attended!
If you missed it, we are already thinking of the next one and we will be recruiting
new people to be involved.
Wayne Township is full of talented, giving people. I am thankful to know you all.
Wishing you and your loved ones happy holidays filled with wonderful memories,
happy times, friendship and LOVE.
I’ll be looking for you! Gayle

Dear Seniors,
On November 9th we hosted our annual open
enrollment for Medicare Part D and Medicare
Advantage Plans; we assisted 24 people. I would like
to thank our wonderful S.H.I.P. Counselors: Frank,
Judy, Ed and Kathy for their hard work on that day
and throughout the year! You all are such dedicated
people; we are very fortunate to have you. I would
also like to thank Phyllis for assisting with open
enrollment.
You have until December 7th to review or change your
Part D or Advantage Plan. The last change you make
will be the final change. Coverage will begin on
January 01, 2016.
If you haven’t heard, license plate sticker renewal
reminders will NO LONGER be mailed out. If you
use email, you can register at www.ilsos.gov/
greenmail to receive an email reminder. You can also
renew your sticker online if you wish. If you don’t
use email, you need to remember when your license
plate sticker expires and renew it at a driver’s license
facility (remember to bring your vehicle registration
with you).
We wish you and your family a very happy holiday
season.
Stay Healthy!

With 2015 coming to a close, I want to thank all of you who
have donated funds, goods, and/or time to the Township this
year. We are most appreciative of all donations, no matter
what the form. From the volunteers who come in on a weekly
basis, to those who volunteer when needed, to the people who
donate to the food pantry or clothes closet… Thank You.
2015 General Assessment
My staff and I have completed the 2015 General Assessment.
Assessment notices were mailed to all property owners on
November 10, 2015, and the assessment roll was published in
the Examiner newspapers on November 11, 2015. The final
date to file an assessment appeal is December 11, 2015.
I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday and a healthy
New Year.
Every neighborhood was reviewed and adjusted to enhance
assessment uniformity and to achieve a level of assessments
close to 331/3% (one-third) of market value.
Tom Arends, Wayne Township Supervisor
General Assistance Department
630-231-7173
Once again we would like to thank you all for your continued
support. Your generosity and goodwill towards our clients’
needs are extraordinary - just like each one of you!
Holiday Programs
Thanks to your help and generosity, we are helping 120
families this Thanksgiving. Your fundraisers enabled us to
secure the $16 price for the holiday meal boxes. Happy
Thanksgiving to all!
Christmas Toy Wrapping
We have scheduled the toy wrapping for December 18 th from
12:30pm to 2:30pm in the Senior Center. However, our goal
this year is to have all children “adopted” by individual donors
or churches. If that happens, our wrapping project will be
very small. You can sign up with Karen or Linda. We will
keep you posted with details.
Senior Tree
We have a large number of seniors asking for Christmas
assistance. We want to give you the opportunity to “adopt” a
senior by purchasing a gift for them. We will have tags on the
Township Christmas tree for you to select. All gifts have to
be wrapped, labeled and returned to our office by December
17th.
LIHEAP
The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program is up and
running. We are currently taking applications on Tuesdays
and Thursdays. Please call our office to see if you or someone
you know qualifies for a grant towards a gas and/or electric
bill.
Volunteers Needed
Please spread the word that we are in need of three volunteers.
One volunteer is needed to help sort and organize clothing
donations every other week. The second volunteer is needed
to supervise the Clothes Closet on Wednesdays from 10am 2pm. The third volunteer is needed to help distribute food on
Wednesdays from 10am - 2pm. You must be friendly and
enjoy working with different ethnic groups. Please contact
our department if interested.
Have a safe and healthy holiday season - Juanita
Page 14
Because the real estate market has been improving since mid2013, most assessed values in DuPage County increased for
2015. As a reminder, assessed value increases do not
automatically cause taxes to increase. Tax increases are
primarily the result of spending increases by taxing districts
such as school districts, villages, park districts and library
districts. Fair and accurate assessed values ensure an
equitable spread of the property tax burden among property
owners.
Assessment appeals may be based on either market value or
assessment uniformity. An appeal based on market value is
appropriate when the owner believes that the assessed value,
multiplied by three, exceeds the fair market value of his/her
property as of January 1, 2015, based on sales that occurred
between 2012 and 2014.
An appeal based on assessment uniformity is appropriate
when the owner believes that his/her property is assessed
differently than other, similar properties.
Property assessment and sales data are available on our
website. My staff will also be glad to discuss your assessment
with you.
Senior Citizens Assessment Freeze
Homestead Exemption Reminder
The annual deadline to apply for the Senior Freeze Exemption
was October 1st, however, applications will continue to be
accepted after the deadline, but should be completed as soon
as possible to ensure timely processing of the exemption.
For the past several years, as assessed values declined, many
applicants did not receive any benefit from the Freeze
Exemption. Because most assessed valuations have increased
for 2015, applicants will again begin receiving relief due to
this exemption.
To qualify the applicant must have a total household income
of $55,000 or less for 2014. The applicant must also be 65 or
older during the 2015 assessment year, and have owned and
occupied the house on January 1, 2014 and January 1, 2015.
To apply, please bring your 2014 income tax return to my
office and we will assist you in completing the application.
Please call if you have any questions.
