Dear Customers,
Dear Employees,
A look at the first half of the 2013/2014 financial year shows that, overall, the IMPERIAL Logistics International Group remains well positioned
in the market. In spite of the clearly positive economic assessment, the
transport and logistics sector continues to face great challenges. We have
not achieved all the goals we set in the Group. Nevertheless, there is reason enough to look ahead at the second half of the financial year with
optimism and confidence. In recent months we in the IMPERIAL Logistics
International Group have grown together into an even more competent
and thus efficient unit group-wide that is equal to any challenge. Each and
every one of you contributes his or her very personal share to this positive
development and for these efforts I would like to thank you.
The forecasts of economic experts assume economic growth of 1.5 to 2.0
percent for the current year. However, this presumed stability should not
induce us to pursue less ambitious goals in future. We as the IMPERIAL
Logistics International Group want to continuously expand our market
position and keep a watchful eye on disruptive and destabilising factors
that exist even in these good times. We all know that current trends have
become more short-lived and, on top of that, our customers are getting
more and more demanding. In addition, further increasing energy costs,
the greater degree of regulation, liberalisation of the market and
increased safety and environmental protection requirements make the
conditional framework in our sector difficult. We have to continue to
respond to this situation responsibly and with good solutions – promptly,
flexibly and applying a modern approach.
LEHNKERING’s Road Logistics Division has extended its range of services
and now also transports liquefied gas. LEHNKERING Gas Logistics AB is a
newly established company that will initially take over LPG distribution
for a well-known international energy supplier in southern Sweden. It has
launched operation of its own fleet of special vehicles for this order, which
runs for several years.

The PANOPA Group has achieved another milestone in its development in
Eastern Europe through its new Logistics Optimisation Centre in Győr,
Hungary. PANOPA Logistik Magyar Kft. now carries out extensive transport
and logistics activities at this location. They include management of a
warehouse measuring more than 75,000 square metres as well as all order
picking operations, handling empties and shuttle transport for the
automaker.

We are thus headed in the right direction. The 2013/2014 financial year
reveals numerous interesting prospects. Thanks to our stable business
model, the outstanding commitment of our employees and cooperation
between our management and customers based on trust, I am very
confident that this year, too, we will take another big step forward.
At this juncture I would once again like to warmly thank all of you and, of
course, our customers in particular for the good cooperation last year.

Yours,
The negative economic development (e.g. in the steel sector) last year has
unfortunately also led to difficult times and an excess supply on the freight
market. Nonetheless, the logistics sector, currently with sales of 930 billion
euros, remains a major economic factor in Europe. This is one reason more
for us not only to boost the internationalisation of the IMPERIAL Logistics
International Group outside Europe, but also to maintain special focus on
the development of our core market, Europe, where we currently do
95 percent of our business.
BUSINESS AND PROJECT DEVELOPMENT
Gerhard Riemann
Three years ago we started to continuously extend our presence as a
global service provider outside Europe to other continents, such as in
China, by opening our office in Shanghai. At the moment we are
broadening our activities in the Mercosur region through the new company IMPERIAL Shipping Paraguay S.A. In this context two push boats and
twelve pushed barges belonging to the IMPERIAL Shipping Group were
upgraded recently and brought from Rotterdam to South America. There
they will move diverse raw materials between ports in Brazil and Argentina. There is a substantial need for development in the region due to a
lack of infrastructure for transporting such raw materials as soy, cotton
and grain. Fifty highly motivated employees were hired on site for the
IMPERIAL Shipping Group. We are confident that the activities can be
expanded from there.

“Kopernikus” links Krefeld to Warsaw
>> It is thanks to Nikolaus Kopernikus that people realised the Earth revolves around the sun and not the
other way around. The mathematician and astronomer based his entirely new view of the world on his conclusions from
observing the sky. Just as the person to whom it owes its name developed his own ideas, the rail shuttle “Kopernikus”
will set new trends in intermodal transport.

ince recently the complete train has linked
Krefeld to Warsaw. The route is currently
served on a round trip basis twice a week.
The 635 metre long trains are in operation for
around 23 hours. For each direction and departure
S
dls Land und See Speditionsgesellschaft mbH
transports 36 trailers and containers on 18 double
pocket wagons by means of “Kopernikus”. Up
to 144 truck shipments a week are shifted from
road to rail in this way.
The key to the rail shuttle in Germany is the
Krefelder Container Terminal (KCT), which
belongs to the neska intermodal network. The
loading units are entrained there using reach
stackers or cranes. The freight going to Poland
primarily consists of paper, chemical products
and confectionery. Mainly furniture, paper and
building materials are transported in the opposite direction. KCT Managing Director Holger
Kemp is pleased about the cooperation with
dls: “Since launching operation of the terminal
in October 2008, we have been recording
constant growth. With 15,000 additional shipment operations ‘Kopernikus’ will generate
further growth in our order volume.” In future the
plus amount will presumably be even higher
since the number of round trips between Krefeld
and Warsaw will increase as of April. A freight
train linking the Krefelder Container Terminal
to Mortara near Milan five times a week provides for an added boost in capacity utilisation.

Managing
Director of Regent
Insurance Brokers
(Europe) GmbH
Why did you expand Regent’s
field of business?
In the past, employees of IMPERIAL Logistics
International Group submitted to us many
enquiries on the subject of private insurance.
We are now placing this field in the hands of
Ralph Kleinfeld and his team.
Why was this subsidiary organised
under a different name?
This underscores the firm’s independence. Its
clients, both inside and outside the Group,
have an absolute right to the inviolability of
their personal data. This is why Procur has
separate premises and a separate computer
system.
Which additional activities are you
planning?
We are continuing to place our faith in individualised consulting. We also offer our
clients added value, thanks to the advantages we enjoy when concluding policies
with insurance carriers.

a member of the Amadeus Management Board,
the primary reason for the purchase is that the

today comprises three in-house ships and four
vessels chartered on a long-term basis with a
loading capacity of between 2,000 and 3,000

Logistics from a single source generates large order
>> The neska Group and the IMPERIAL Shipping Group jointly landed a large order that runs for a period of
several years. Both corporate groups carry out, in close coordination, storage, cargo handling and shipment of bottom
ash for Mitteldeutsche Schlacken Union (MDSU).
his ash comprises residues resulting from
the incineration of household waste from
which secondary raw materials, such as
ferrous and nonferrous metals, as well as
recyclable minerals are recovered.
Around 400 tons of bottom ashes are
produced daily at the EEW waste incineration
facility in Hürth. The ash is taken by truck to the
dry cargo handling facility that neska operates
in Cologne. “We are the only logistics location
there with approval for handling wastes,”
emphasises Branch Manager Michael
Wittmann. The bulk cargo is kept in temporary
storage in a building measuring 1,250 square
metres and equipped with a liquid-tight
concrete surface before it is loaded onto canalgoing inland vessels of the IMPERIAL Shipping
Group after a short time. The bottom ash is first
T
transported to Magdeburg, 550 kilometres
away, via the Rhine, the Rhine-Herne Canal, the
Dortmund-Ems Canal and the Mittelland Canal
and then taken to Reesen by truck where it is
subsequently treated in a new, highly innovative and patented process. “We employ our
efficient fleet of privately owned ships as well
as shipping company vessels for these strategically important volumes,” says Thomas
Küpper, Managing Director of IMPERIAL
Shipping Services GmbH. MDSU handles precarriage and onward carriage by truck through
a company of the Neumann Group. The
estimated cargo handling and transport volume
comes to 100,000 to 120,000 tons a year.
According to MDSU Managing Director André
Hartl, the decisive factor for the contract
awarded to neska and the IMPERIAL Shipping
Group was the solution from a single source:
“We attach importance to perfect interplay
and a complete chain of logistics since a
continuous supply of raw slag is of utmost
importance for us in this innovative treatment
process.”

Logistics concept for
hazmat distribution
>> Within just two months,
LEHNKERING’s Distribution Logistics Division worked out
and implemented a logistics concept for a wholesale
company selling automotive industry supplies.
EHNKERING organises the delivery of pre-packaged liquids of a
hazardous nature to 15 logistics centres located throughout Germany.
The customer, given the stringent legislation governing hazardous
materials, had approached the limits of its own storage capacities. The
solution uses the CargoWare warehouse management system. It is linked
with the wholesaler’s SAP server via an IT interface. Thus the shipping orders
arriving from that customer’s 15 logistics centres are routed to a central
point at LEHNKERING and are then split up as appropriate among the five
manufacturing sites operated by the chemical maker. “We have to respond
and assemble orders extremely quickly, so that the goods are received the
next day,” according to Björn Liedtke of LEHNKERING’s lead branch office
for this project, in Mannheim. A further challenge is to accommodate daily
and seasonal fluctuations. The wholesaler distributes the materials once
again from its logistics centres to retail sales points. Calculated for the
year, Björn Liedtke expects that 110,000 order lines and 450,000 picks are
involved. And in 2014, that volume is forecast to rise by 30 percent.

goods,” as Hans van den Bosch, Managing Director of LEHNKERING
Logistics N.V., explains the advantages. “The simplifications in
customs processes and preferential treatment accelerate customs
clearance significantly.” That is why the certificate plays a very
important role in the competitive market. Headquartered in
Rotterdam, LEHNKERING Logistics B.V. is also AEO-certified. Both
companies are part of the LEHNKERING’s Distribution Logistics
Division.

Business and Project Development
>> Though the cutting of the ribbon in
Győr, Hungary took only a few seconds, CEO Rüdiger Buß
underlined the long-term significance of this brief symbolic act
for the PANOPA Group: “Today’s inauguration of the Logistics
Optimisation Centre is another major milestone in the development of our corporate group in Eastern Europe.”
ANOPA Logistik Magyar Kft. performs
extensive transport and logistics tasks
for Audi Hungaria at the Logistics
Optimisation Centre. It manages a warehouse
measuring more than 75,000 square metres
and carries out order picking work, empties
handling and shuttle shipments on behalf of
the automaker. From there the company
supplies components perfectly synchronised to
the automobile plant seven kilometres away,
where the A3 Limousine and the A3 Convertible
are produced in series as complete units. In

EHNKERING is building 3,000 square
metres of additional space for storage and
handling of hazardous materials. Furthermore, the multipurpose synthesis plant will be
extended by virtue of a third section, which is
slated to go into operation in autumn 2015.
L
The fungicide centre will include a facility for
the formulation of emulsion concentrates (EC)
as well as another plant for formulating
suspension concentrates (SC). In future highquality plant protection agents and fine chemicals will be produced there and in the extended
multipurpose synthesis plant for worldwide
application on behalf of well-known chemical
corporations. The combination of an EC with a
SC facility as well as direct connection to highly
automated filling lines will furnish customers
with cost advantages. The larger hazardous
materials warehouse will provide warehouse
logistics services for in-house needs and for
customers.
Altogether the chemical supplier is investing 25
million euros in the expansion. “In this way we
meet the increasing demand for high-quality
external production services,” says Dr. Bernd
Müller, CEO of Schirm GmbH. “Our customers
especially appreciate the full-service idea.”
Uwe Willhaus, CEO of LEHNKERING GmbH,
adds: “An important unique selling proposition
is that we offer both logistics and production
services. The investment in the complex is a
major basis for future growth at the Schönebeck location.” The expansion will result in the
creation of 66 new jobs.

he company, which is part of the neska
Group, is specialised in just-in-time
logistics for paper and other forestry
products and focuses increasingly on rail transportation. Today 85 percent of the goods are
delivered via rail. However, the previous storage
capacity was no longer sufficient to meet the
rising demand for services for the paper
industry. Pohl handles around 275,000 tons a
year at the Berlin location, with an increasing
trend.
To maintain the proximity to the existing
buildings, the company decided on an annexe
to the facility in Südhafen. Henceforth a total
of 15,000 square metres of covered space and
two loading tracks are available. The new
siding is completely covered so that sensitive
goods can be transhipped in all weathers. “We
are thus able to load and unload both single
railway wagons and complete trains within a
short time,” emphasises Michael Kisser: “That

Logistics in the shuttle bus
New facility for shop construction in Shanghai

industry, Shanghai IMPERIAL International Freight Forwarding Co., Ltd. launched operation of a new logistics facility.
he 7,000 square metre structure with
twelve gates is located in a warehouse
park in the Baoshan region north of
Shanghai and complements the existing site in
the Jing’an district. “We are using the new
facility as a central warehouse for our customers,” explains Christian Berlin, Managing
Director of IMPERIAL Shanghai. From here it is
possible to set up six to eight shops parallel,
depending on the size of the shop. From around
1,500 different articles 25,000 articles are order
picked per shop. “At present twelve staff members work here. However, we plan to hire two
to three new employees in the coming
months,” Christian Berlin looks ahead. The
company, whose activities are allocated to the
PANOPA Group via affiliation to the
LEHNKERING Euro Logistics Group, employs 22
T
staff members altogether at the two locations
in Shanghai.
Christian Berlin knows no geographic boundaries for the organisation of the supply chain:
“We cover all of Asia through partners and subcontractors. The greatest pressure is in China,
however.” The company performs all logistics
services desired – from road transport, air and
sea freight, warehousing and customs
clearance all the way to value added services.
The strategic goal is to further expand the client
portfolio in the shop construction segment by
means of this know-how. Christian Berlin: “The
medical sector is currently growing very rapidly
in China. We are now negotiating with a
Chinese partner concerning joint entry into the
market.” Moreover, the range of services is to
be extended to the automotive industry.
>> The Volkswagen plant in Wolfsburg is
considered to be the biggest contiguous automobile factory in the world.
The plant grounds are nearly three times the area of the Principality of
Monaco, the road network is around 75 kilometres long. To help the
employees save time when they move across the grounds, the car maker
has set up bus shuttles connecting the parking areas, buildings and
production sites. On one of these buses there is advertising for
HANSMANN Logistik GmbH, which has taken over internal plant
logistics functions for Volkswagen at its headquarters. Moreover, an
image film during the ride provides information on the corporate group’s
range of services. Both Volkswagen and HANSMANN employees may
use the MAN bus, a Lion’s City model. The bus has met with very good
acceptance since the start of service in October 2013.
Long trucks in flurry of flashing cameras
>> This is something you don’t see every day:
twelve EuroCombis in a flurry of flashing cameras at the meeting of the
“big boys”. They were displayed on the occasion of the fifth race of the
transportation and logistics sector sponsored by the journal trans aktuell.
GILLHUBER Logistik GmbH, which took part in Germany’s biggest long
truck show, presented one of these vehicles. “This parade is an excellent
opportunity to point out the safety features of our vehicle, such as lane
keeping and proximity control assist, attention assist and rear view
camera,” emphasised Managing Director Srecko Mühling. GILLHUBER
supplies well-known carmakers with bought-in parts using the long truck. It
has been in operation on routes in Bavaria and Saxony since March 2012.
In the sector race, which started against the backdrop of the EuroCombis,
the focus was less on technical features than on personal best times. Among
the participants were GILLHUBER employees, who encountered good
conditions on the course over distances of five and ten kilometres.

“Fines” for a good cause
>> Those who come too
late, have not set their mobile phone to silent
or interrupt someone midstream have to pay.
That is a stipulation of the “List of fines”, which
the central works council at LEHNKERING
GmbH adopted years ago. The list specifies
what improper behaviour costs how much
during a central works council meeting. The
amount of the fines to be paid ranges between
25 cents and one euro. An impressive total of
530 euros accumulated in this way over the
years and has now been donated to Friedensdorf International (Peace Village International).
The children’s relief organisation in Oberhausen looks after sick or injured girls and boys
from war- and crisis-torn areas. Even though
the till is now empty, inappropriate behaviour
will not remain unpunished in future central
works council meetings. A new piggy bank is
already prepared.

Group sent out invitations.
In his talk the extreme alpinist took the 200
listeners on a journey to the limits of what is
humanly possible and brought home to them
how the inconceivable is made conceivable and
the unfeasible feasible. The key factor in all his
undertakings is motivation, he stated. In an
exciting fashion the South Tyrolean explained
the connection between his adventures and
other spheres of life, also providing impetus
and food for thought on how his experiences
can be applied to the success and risk
management of a company. For Reinhold
Messner the mountain serves as a metaphor for
how everyone can rise above himself/herself
through courage, motivation and enthusiasm.
His insight: “The mountains that have to be

Logistics International Group would also like to
continue to move mountains in the coming years.
In this connection it presented “IMPERIAL
2020” during the management conference, a
project aimed at expanding the group by creating new divisions. The various divisions took
advantage of the event to present themselves
and their work, creatively in some cases, but at
all times in an informative manner.
