In 1982 it became GADC, a privately incorporated non-profit organization. Since then we have greatly expanded our programs and services to the seniors in our area. The number of people who come to GADC has also grown significantly over the years, which has led us to build a new and larger home! River House, our new home on the Mianus River, is almost ready to open its doors. It is designed specifically for our seniors allowing GADC to continue their excellent individualized programs promoting independence while appealing to a wide range of member interests and aptitudes. We will be able to increase our client base by 50%. This beautiful, tranquil setting offers easy access by public and private transportation as well as increased visibility and awareness of our unique agency. I would like to extend a very special thank you to Carol Burns, our Executive Director of 20 years! Her vision, guidance and wisdom have helped make our new center a reality. A plaque in her honor will be placed in River House. I have enjoyed serving as President of GADC for the last three years - it is an incredible organization of dedicated staff and volunteers. My very special thanks to all of you. Fondly, Caralyn Stevens President, GADC THE GADC MISSION Greenwich Adult Day Care was founded in 1977 to allow Greenwich area seniors no longer able to live fully independently to continue living in their own homes by joining others for professionally supervised care each day. The individualized program of daytime healthcare and social activities is designed to: • Provide social interaction, personal care, medical monitoring and therapeutic and rehabilitation services • Allow seniors to continue living in their own homes, near their families • Give family and professional caregivers a respite from the constant responsibility of caring for an impaired adult 2007 Annual Report_v07:Layout 1 2/20/08 12:03 PM Page 3 2006 Comedy NIGHT November 9th was a night of laughter at our first ever Comedy Night chaired by Rachel Franco and Stefanie Kies with the help of their Giggle Committee. The sold-out show was held at Greenwich Academy’s Massey Theater and raised over $30,000 to benefit the Campaign for GADC’s Future. The night featured Kendra Farn, WNBC-TV News Correspondent, as the Master of Ceremonies and four terrifically funny comedians of all ages. RJ Adler, a senior at Brunswick School, opened the show. Other comedians included Bonnie Levison, who has performed at Caroline's Comedy Club in Manhattan, and Gideon Fountain, a real estate agent at Cleveland, Duble & Arnold and a lifetime Greenwich resident. The featured comedian of the night was Jane Condon, grand prize winner of the 2004 Ladies of Laughter Contest. She has appeared on The Today Show, The View, Lifetime TV and has performed at Caroline’s Comedy Club. Gorgeous orchid centerpieces decorated the waterside tent and set the stage for a delicious luncheon and fabulous fashion show by Saks Fifth Avenue – Greenwich featuring eleven community volunteers as models with makeup by Bobbi Brown. The day could not have been better! Huge thanks to the amazing hard working committee who were key to our raising over $120,000! Many, many thanks to the vendors, underwriters and special donors that helped make this the most successful year yet! This event would not have been such a success without the commitment of the many volunteers and donors who give their time and generosity. I look forward to chairing the 2008 Annual Garden Party! They give unselfishly of their time and talent. Their compassion and enthusiasm is priceless as they help put GADC’s programs into action for our clients; serve on the Board and committees; provide financial support; and impart their knowledge. Our volunteers span the ages with adults, children and teens actively involved in the daily life at GADC as they bring our programs to life. With their assistance, our clients participate in singing; celebrating holidays; pet therapy; art history lessons; gardening; baking; craft activities and field trips. Our volunteers are our special treasure and we are so fortunate to have them as part of the GADC family. A committee looked at many different properties but when we walked into the 1927 New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad “Pump House” on the top of the Mianus River dam we knew we had found our future home. It took a little imagination to look beyond the abandoned machinery and leaking roof but the location on the Post Road in Cos Cob and the magnificent views of the Mianus River were enough to win us over. The next five years were filled with negotiating a lease with the Town of Greenwich, planning and zoning meetings, architectural plans, bid packages, demolition and finally construction. In the midst of the plans and construction of the actual center we also recruited a wonderful Campaign Committee to raise the $4.7 million needed to complete the project. Hundreds of volunteers (too numerous to name here) have been involved in so many ways. They have contributed thousands of hours to the project. None of this would have been possible without them and without the extraordinary generosity of the contributors to the Campaign for GADC’s Future. My heartfelt thank you to each and everyone.
