Denny Hamlin will take the wheel of the #11 FedEx Chevrolet in 2007 looking to build on an impressive rookie
season and once again challenge for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Championship. Hamlin’s rise to NASCAR’s top
level has been nothing short of meteoric, considering he was driving Late Model stock cars only three years ago.
In 2006, Hamlin burst on the scene with his win at the prestigious Bud Shootout at Daytona, and carried that early
momentum into one of the most successful rookie campaigns in NASCAR history. On his way to becoming the first
ever rookie to earn a spot in the Chase for the NEXTEL Cup, Hamlin posted his first career Nextel Cup win in
dominating style at Pocono Raceway. He captured three Bud Pole awards, both Pocono stops and homecoming
triumph at Richmond International Raceway. By the time Hamlin sealed the Raybestos Rookie of the Year award,
he was challenging for a Nextel Cup championship, ultimately finishing third.
Hamlin’s abilities were on display in the Busch Series in 2006 as well. In his second full season, Hamlin recorded
two wins, 23 top-ten finishes and seven pole awards.
While Hamlin now finds himself racing at the highest level of NASCAR, he has been winning races since the early
age of seven when he began his career racing karts in the Junior Sportsman League. From the cart tracks of Virginia
to the Nextel Cup, Hamlin has proven he can succeed at any level.
With Hamlin on his way to a fifth place finish in his rookie Busch campaign, he was offered the opportunity to run the
#11 FedEx Chevrolet at the end of the 2005 Nextel Cup Series schedule. Hamlin wasted no time in displaying his
talent posting three top-ten finishes in seven starts and winning the pole at Phoenix.
Hamlin has made a habit of strong NASCAR debuts. In his first Craftsman Truck Series race, Hamlin drove the
Gibbs Performance Chevrolet to a tenth-place finish in the Power Stroke Diesel 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park on
Aug. 6, 2004. Three months later, Hamlin made his Busch Series debut in the BI-LO 200 at Darlington Raceway,
recording an eighth-place finish in the #18 Joe Gibbs Racing Performance Racing Oil Chevrolet.
In 2000, Hamlin was named Rookie of the Year at Southside Speedway in Richmond, Va., posting 18 top-ten and 11
top-five finishes that season, ranking him among the top-five in final point standings. Just three years later in 2003,
Hamlin celebrated his finest season, posting 25 wins, 30 poles and 33 top-five finishes.
In 1997, at age 16, Hamlin hit the track for his first season driving a Mini Stock car. The year was a resounding
success as Hamlin became the youngest driver to win a NASCAR Mini Stock track championship at Langley
Speedway and he was named the 1997 NASCAR Mini Stock Rookie of the Year. Hamlin still holds the NASCAR
Mini Stock track record at Langley Speedway with a time of 18.025.
By age 12, he was dominating in the Junior Restricted League, over time earning the titles Amelia Motor Raceway
Track Champion (Junior Restricted), Virginia Dirt Karting Association State Champion (Junior Champ) and World
Karting Association Virginia Dirt Series State Champion (Junior Champ). Hamlin finished his Kart career at age 15
with 127 feature wins and five championships in three classes.
Away from the track Hamlin enjoys competing in online racing leagues.

MIKE FORD
CREW CHIEF, #11 FEDEX CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO SS
Birth date: April 13, 1970
Hometown: Morristown, TN
Residence: Stanley, NC
Spouse: Robin
Children: Alec, Austin
Mike Ford returns to the helm of FedEx Racing as the crew chief of the #11 FedEx Chevrolet Monte Carlo driven by Denny
Hamlin in 2007. Ford enjoyed a career-best year in charge of the #11 team in 2006 and nearly led the team to a NASCAR
Nextel Cup Championship while scoring two wins, three poles and a third-place finish in the points standings.
Ford joined Joe Gibbs Racing in June of 2005 and led the #11 team for the final 23 races of the 2005 NASCAR Nextel Cup
season. In that time, Ford worked with the team to record the program’s best run of results, including four top-ten finishes in the
last 11 races and a Bud Pole Award at Phoenix on Nov. 13. Ford almost immediately clicked with Joe Gibbs Racing’s Busch
Series driver Denny Hamlin as he made his first start in the Nextel Cup Series and secured the seat in the #11 FedEx Chevrolet
for 2006.
Prior to joining Joe Gibbs Racing in 2005, Ford served as crew chief for the #88 Robert Yates Racing team and driver Dale
Jarrett. Ford joined the program he had led to the championship in 1999 and quickly breathed life into a team that had yet to find
sustained success. Ford proved he was up to the challenge as he coached Jarrett to four top-three finishes at some of
NASCAR’s most prestigious races, resuscitating a struggling program.
Ford brings 15 years of racing experience to the FedEx team, on top of professional training from AMI, a technical school in
Charlotte, NC. During his first spell with Robert Yates Racing from the end of 1995 to 1999, Ford was instrumental in the #88
team’s success, resulting in 18 wins, 80 top-five finishes, 95 top-10 finishes and the 1999 NASCAR Championship.
Ford joined Evernham Motorsports in 2000 as crew chief of Bill Elliott’s team, taking Elliott back to victory lane and vaulting him
into the top-10 in driver points by the end of the 2003 season.

FedEx Racing – Commitment to Community
During the 2006 NASCAR season, Denny Hamlin and the FedEx Racing program visited six Children’s Hospitals across the
country to bring racing excitement to young patients. On his visits, Hamlin brought his love of racing with him in the form of the
FedEx Raceway R/C track, and FedEx showed their continuing support with donations of $25,000 to each hospital.
In addition, FedEx worked with patients at each hospital to design the helmet Hamlin wore in their respective race markets. The
helmets were a huge success and the creativity was a tribute the brave patients.
Hamlin, Operation FedEx Special Delivery Visit Healthcare of Atlanta Children’s Hospital. Denny Hamlin paid a special
visit the Healthcare of Atlanta Children’s Hospital ahead of the Atlanta race in support of the Operation FedEx Special Delivery
program. Operation FedEx Special Delivery, a year-round program designed to bring help and hope to local towns across the
country, will share the NASCAR racing experience with patients during a special “racing camp” at the hospital. FedEx also
presented the Children’s Hospital with a $25,000 donation.
Hamlin, Operation FedEx Special Delivery Visit Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. Prior to taking the track at
Chicagoland, Hamlin joined the Special Delivery truck to visit patients at the Chicago hospital. As part of the visit, Hamlin
received a custom helmet to wear on race day designed for him by a group of former Rush patients. In addition, Hamlin joined
the patients for radio-controlled car races, and FedEx presented a check for $25,000 to the hospital.
Hamlin Makes Special Delivery…and Special Pickup in Oakland. Hamlin joined Operation FedEx Special Delivery as they
visited the Children’s Hospital and Research Center Oakland on Thursday before traveling to Sonoma County for the race
weekend. While at the hospital Hamlin met with and raced radio-controlled cars with the patients, then joined with FedEx to
present the hospital with a donation of $25,000. Hamlin also will be presented with a specially designed FedEx Freight race
helmet to wear this weekend. The designer of the helmet is 8-year old NASCAR fan Kurtis Meek.
Hamlin Brings NASCAR Excitement to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) Patients. Before preparing for race day at
California Speedway, Denny Hamlin and FedEx delivered racing excitement to patients at Children’ Hospital Los Angeles.
Hamlin was presented with a custom race helmet designed for him by 10-year old CHLA patient Elizabeth Cerritos which he
wore for all Cup activities at California Speedway, including the Nextel Cup race. In addition, Hamlin joined FedEx in presenting
the hospital a donation of $25,000.
Hamlin Brings NASCAR to Children’s Hospital of Richmond. Hamlin visited the Children’s Hospital of Richmond Thursday
as part of the FedEx Operation Special Delivery program. Hamlin race r/c cars with patients, signed autographs and, because
he was unable to visit the hospital before the spring race due to his hand injury, met with the patients who designed the helmet
he wore at Richmond International Raceway in the spring. He pulled on the same helmet, designed by local patient Jarrod
Thompson, again for the NNCS event at RIR on Saturday, Sept. 9.
Hamlin, FedEx Racing Team “Crew” Dallas-Area FedEx Kinko’s. Already known for their teamwork at the race track, Denny
Hamlin and members of the #11 FedEx Racing team showed what they could do behind the counter of a Dallas-area FedEx
Kinko’s on Wednesday, Nov.1. The crew was busy making, packing and shipping gifts for patients at the Cook Children’s
Medical Center in Fort Worth. Hamlin also joined with representatives of FedEx to present Cook Children’s with a donation of
$25,000, and received a helmet designed for him by Alexis Hakalmazian, a 15-year old Keller student and patient at Cook
Children’s Medical Facility. Hamlin wore the helmet, named “Healing Hands Coming Together in Search of a Cure,” for all
Nextel Cup activity at Texas Motor Speedway.

There are certain numbers in sports that are forever associated
with success. These numbers are synonymous with great
champions, winning teams and unforgettable moments.
In 2005, FedEx and Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) brought the #11 back
to the track and it, too, holds an important place in NASCAR lore.
Fully expecting to add more great moments to its already
impressive history, FedEx and JGR immediately started delivering
results and their success is adding to the lore of the famous #11.
A BRIEF NASCAR HISTORY OF THE #11
Championship History
Eight NASCAR Series Championships have been won by cars carrying the #11.
Ned Jarrett in 1961 & 1965
Cale Yarborough in 1976, 1977 & 1978
Darrell Waltrip in 1981, 1982 & 1985
All Time Wins
The #11 has scored 182 victories in NASCAR's premier division, second all-time to Richard Petty's #43.
All Time Poles Wins
Cars carrying the #11 have started from the pole more than any other number in NASCAR history. With the addition of Denny
Hamlin’s pole wins in 2005 and 2006, the #11 has won the pole a record 134 times.
First Win
Parnelli Jones won the first race in the #11 car, taking the checkered flag in Bremerton, Wash., on Aug. 4, 1957.
Last Win
Denny Hamlin drove the #11 to two wins in the 2006 season, both at Pocono Raceway. Prior to Hamlin, Bill Elliot steered the
#11 to the winner's circle at Darlington on Sept. 4, 1994.
First Race
Skimp Hersey drove a 1947 Ford carrying the #11 to an 18th-place finish at Charlotte Motor Speedway on June 19, 1947
Drivers
When he took the green flag at Kansas Speedway on Oct. 9, 2005, Hamlin became the 59th driver to pilot the #11. Hamlin joins
legends such as Jarrett, Yarborough, Waltrip, Bill Elliott, Fireball Roberts and Buddy Baker
Personal Significance
J.D. Gibbs, President of JGR, wore #11 during his football career from 1987-1990 at The College of William & Mary.
