Final Flower Queen Found
Congratulations to Inca Honnor!
In this issue...
Ayscoughfee Hall hosted the final Spalding Flower Queen competition on 
15th March. The preliminary interviews at Tulip Radio had whittled the
contenders down to just five finalists, and after much deliberation by the
judging panel, Inca Honnor was crowned the 2013 Flower Queen.
All the finalists will have the honour of being part of the Parade on Saturday 
4th May as the UK’s most famous and long-standing flower parade winds its
way through Spalding’s streets for the final time.

The 2013 Flower Parade Prince and Princess
Competition was judged at the Fun Farm on 5th
March.
Jeremy Ransome, Editor for the
Lincolnshire Free Press, served as
a judge for the competition.
Congratulations to the winners Ellis
Newton (10) and Millie Weller (9).
We will see the last Spalding Flower Parade on May 4th this year, 54 years on
from the first ever official Tulip Parade. We will be in the town marketplace on
the day, hoping to conclude the Parade’s history in style. Although it will be the
final Flower Parade, there is a campaign to establish a new event that would
recognise the area's food and horticultural heritage.

Tulip Radio’s Presentation Evening
Tulip Radio held its Presentation Evening in January to see off the year of 2012.
Once again, AlleyCatz provided the venue, offering a meal for all and 3 rounds of
Bowling. Dave Mustoe picked up the Volunteer of the Year Award, while Callum
Pepper was awarded the Presenter of the Year Award. Dave has been a long-time
Volunteer and fully deserves his award for providing such a valuable service to
Tulip Radio over the years. Callum, along with Adam Mustoe and Christopher
Smith were also awarded medals for their long service of Volunteering. Well done
to the winners; thanks to all the volunteers who give their time freely to present on
Tulip Radio, and thanks to AlleyCatz for providing the venue and a great night out.
Spectacular Event at East of England Showground
In January, Tulip Radio attended this year’s Celebs on Ice Skate-off at Peterborough’s East of
England Showground. Amongst the stars participating in the event were TV pop personality
Chico, former rugby player Kyran Bracken, Steps member Lisa-Scott Lee and Ray Quinn, with
Christopher Biggins as host. In celebration, we hosted an on-air competition for the opportunity
for one class in any local school to join us at the showground. Kyran Bracken joined Tulip Radio
to ask the question, “What country did I play rugby for?” live on air. Spalding Grammar School
were awarded free tickets after the lucky winners answered the question correctly by stating
England, even though Kyran is in fact Irish. The show did not disappoint; the participants looked
like naturals as they showed off their skating skills and some jaw dropping costumes.
Help for Heroes Evening at the Anglia Motel
During the month of January, Tulip Radio’s Jan Whitbourn and Chris
Carter were invited to the annual Help for Heroes Evening at the Anglia
Motel in Fleet. MP John Hayes and owner Harold Payne were both
present for this event honouring local veterans.
A magnificent 1960 Triumph Speed twin Motorbike was won in a charity
raffle in aid of the Royal Anglian Regiment Benevolent Fund. Around
£2,000 was raised on the night for local veterans such as those involved
in the Normandy Landings in World War II. The night featured fantastic
entertainment from the Peterborough Pipe Band and Harold Payne
described the event as the best in 20 years. Well done to Harold and all
his volunteers for all their hard work throughout the year.

Inspector Jim Tyner & New Street Pastor Scheme
We recently talked with Police Inspector Jim Tyner, to discuss the New Street Pastor Scheme
which is to be introduced to Spalding this year. Street Pastors are volunteers that patrol towns at
night offering help to various members of the public who are in distress and require care. It is
predicted that Street Pastors could be on the streets of Spalding by December this year.
Churches Together in Spalding and District has stated it is able to provide a management team.
Pinchbeck Carnival Prince & Princess
This year’s Pinchbeck Carnival Queen was crowned on Friday 22 March at a Family Disco in
Pinchbeck’s Village Hall. Jan Whitbourn, Spalding’s Flower Queen Inca Honnor and Carnival
supporters Steve and Jonnie Colby took on the duty of judging, and after much careful consideration, 15-year-old Esther Howard was crowned Pinchbeck’s Queen for 2013. They will be joined at
the Carnival with 10-year-old Princess Abigail Slade and 8-year-old Prince Thomas Wright.
Tulip Radio have helped to organise a taxi, sponsored by Paul’s Private Hire, to take three other
lucky winners for a ride in the parade.
Don’t miss out on the Pinchbeck Carnival this Summer on Saturday June 8th.
Tulip Radio will be broadcasting from Pinchbeck’s Rotten Row Playing Field,
throughout the day. A Parade will lead through the village, starting at 12pm and
will arrive at the Pinchbeck Playing Field at 1pm. There will be Fancy Dress
Competitions, Children's Rides, Stalls including Tombola’s, Raffles, Lucky Dips
and other games. The day will be concluded with a Talent Show starting at 5pm.

Workout at Everybody’s Gym
Members of Tulip Radio were invited for a free workout this February at
Everybody’s Gym in the Crescent. The Tulip team were free to explore and experiment with all the different equipment on offer. Trainer Jonny was determined
to win an endurance test by himself against several of our team members on
the rowing machine. However, we are pleased to say we survived
embarrassment, with Jonny just falling short of his target. Thank you to the girls
from Hills, the Weight Watchers ladies and the Tulip Radio team for taking part.
A big thank you to all of our recent guests at Tulip Radio
