Reach out
After three months of scorching heat the rains are finally here! Time to look out
dreamy-eyed at the pouring rains with a hot cuppa in hand. Time to skip over
puddles (don’t forget those rain boots) and time to bring out the parka jackets
(albeit the brightest one). But most importantly, time to get drenched in fabulous
monsoon offers, unbelievable discounts, new styles at the new stores, an array of
comfort food and a host of fun events at Select CITYWALK.

But since when were we only about shopping? Take a break from all the walking
by sampling delicious pretzels in Wetzels’ Pretzels, croissants in L’opera and icecream at Haagen Dazs.
While at it, check out the many events we have lined up for the month. Celebrate
Teej at an exclusive bazaar set up with little kiosks and interesting knick-knacks;
and pay homage to our national animal by participating in Sher-e-Kala. But
among all the merriment and the smiles, take a moment to remember the martyrs
in the Kargil War at our special event, Kargil - Lest We Forget.
Warm Regards,
Team Select CITYWALK

mother’s day
(Above & left) Stagecoach Kids Club paid a tribute to moms with the a musical rendition Sound of
Music based on the classic movie of the same name
From June 8 to 11, the busy shopping
centre was transformed into a sea of
bobbing yellow and red Superman Shields
with messages as crowds of moms and kids
posed at the #SelfieWithMom backdrop
for the special celebration. There was also
a musical rendition of the classic film
Sound of Music by Stagecoach kids club
and there were dedications, plays and
more... Select CITYWALK made sure the
special day became an unforgettable one.
While several shoppers posted selfies of
themselves with their moms online: the
contest included clicking selfies, using
the hashtag #SelfieWithMom and tagging
Select CITYWALK on Facebook, Twitter
or Instagram, many just clicked as they
shopped. The mothers also got to state the
gift they would love to get on Mother’s Day!
Though Select CITYWALK turned
Santa for only two lucky mothers, the rest
could be seen enjoying the bonding time....

Flowy is fun
Don’t dump those pretty, floral loose tops
and dresses yet as monsoon is welcoming
these with arms wide open. Not only are
they casual, stylish and fresh but absolute
winners when it comes to comfort. Pick
loose tunics that can be adorned as dresses
and long tops, pretty flowing feminine
dresses, floaty kaftan blouses that exude
style that is quirky, smart and relaxed.
Ditch fabrics like cotton and linen that
can get clinging to the body and breathe
the freshness of rains in chiffons and

Flirt with skirts
An embellished short skirt by Tanvi Kedia
Be it the Paris runway or our home-grown fashion weeks,
swish and swirl of a skirt is a common sight. So why
bury this eternal romance with skirts in monsoons. Get
gorgeous and glamorous by sporting short, bouncy or midlength skirts. Pick from ruffled, wrap, A lines, pleated and
many more to zing up your glamour quotient and look a
fashion icon when everyone at work can’t help but sigh in
admiration. Keep those long skirts aside. If you want to go
in for skirts, try short flowy ones that help you to beat the
humidity as well. Choose tunics and tops in happy colours
and bright prints, but keep the bottoms dark. Black, navy,
earth brown or printed skirts are safe bets during the rains.
If you absolutely have to wear pants, choose cropped skinny
or pencil pants over flared styles since there’s a tendency for
all that extra fabric to get muck on the hem.

cropped comfort
They are playful, laid-back and elegant. Cropped pants
can be a girl’s best friend during monsoons as their
cut- above- the- ankle length is a life saver when you are
trudging through mud and puddles of water. A relaxed
wear, they look great with loose tunics, t-shirts, or short
tucked-in blouses. Make these flattering by keeping the
leg opening really tapered, revealing that sexy ankle
bone creating a fashion statement that’s huge on style
and comfort. Wear them in an elegant, classic way with
a statement necklace. However, cropped pants can make
you look short but there is good news. You can overcome
the leg shortening effect by wearing higher heels. Since
it’s monsoon pair your cropped pants with platforms or
preferably wedges.

M
onsoon is here and with
it are its many woes.
Though rains bring the
much-needed respite
and romance in our lives
but our fashion quotient goes for a toss
for sure. What with a series of puddles
waiting to soak our footwear! With a
heavy heart you bid good bye to all your
fancy shoes with the fear of ruining them
in the downpour. So what options do we
have to stay stylish in this tricky weather?
As it turns out, many. Surprised? Don’t
be. If your leather boots cannot deal with
the monsoon, your wedges definitely
will and so will your trainers and loafers
and rubber sole docksides, not to forget
the ever monsoon-worthy flip-flops and
Crocs. So what are you waiting for? It is
time to redo your footwear collection a
bit to enjoy this romantic weather - poet’s
favourite muse and romance’s favourite
hangout. Greet monsoon with style and
comfort. We tell you how...

Not to state the obvious, but sneakers and trainers are
actually pretty decent rain shoes. High-tops with cotton or
suede uppers won’t be water-resistant enough, but those
with leather should do the trick for light rainfall. Just don’t
step directly in puddles.
• Keep an extra pair of chappals in your office
drawer that are very comfortable for times
when all else seems futile.

not only are they fashionable but offer better support
while you’re walking.
These multi-coloured clogs are a monsoon must-have for
obvious reasons. However, go for the breatheable ones
during monsoons as the humidity makes your feet smelly.
Closed quarters only worsen the situation. Nonetheless
Crocs are monsoon must-haves for sure.

• If you travel a lot, make sure you carry wet
wipes or a hand towel to dry your feet whenever
need be. Damp feet will smell and also get
infected easily.
• Wear shoes that have a proper grips on the
sole or the chances of trip and fall are aplenty.
• Wearing cheap rubber shoes may seem like a
smart idea but watch out for shoes that can give
you awful shoe bites.
• Make sure you do not wear leather, suede or a
material that soaks water because it will leave
stinky feet and shoes.

Discount season is round the corner and you

kinds of indulgences. But you know what can
make the experience better? These ten tips

/monsoon sale
S
ummon the smart shopper
in you and get set to launch
yourself in the shopping
bonanza. Yes, ladies and
gentlemen it is once again that
time of the year when shopping deals
swarm the season. It is the great end of
the season sale. While the most arduous
shopaholics would already be looking for
discounts and steeply reduced prices on a
variety of goodies, you can catch up just in
time. We will tell you how.
1
2
Shop on weekdays
If you hate crowds, the best way to have
a day of leisurely shopping is to hit the
market or mall on weekday mornings or
afternoons. This way you not just dodge
the crowd but also end up picking the best
from the lot especially when the sale is in
its first week. weekends is when shoppers
flood malls.
Buy multiple items
If you want to make the most of the
discounts on offer, buy more than just one
item. Chances are that the more you buy,
the better the discounts get. If you think
you might want to return something, try
to use a credit card to shop. Returns are
much easier and faster with a credit card
than with a debit card or cash. The latter
can sometimes take weeks to go through.
Also, in case of late refunds, you can
always ask your credit card company to
intervene.
4
Just a little patience
Shop for high-end products at the
EOSS (End of Season Sale). Make a list
of all the things you need and find out
in advance about the best places to buy
them and when. Get there early and
you’ll not only cover all the essentials
but, believe it or not, the wait will make
the shopping more enjoyable.
3
Don’t shop for the sake of
shopping
Buy something because you really like
it, not because it’s being offered at a
super-low price. It won’t matter how deep
the discount is if you are never going to
wear it in your life. Also, always read the
fine print. There’s nothing better than
clearance buys - but in our excitement to
shop, we often fail to read the fine print.
Ask the staff about
clearance sale
return policies
and check for
defects before
you buy the
item.

5
6
Do your homework
7
8
Look out for the “best price”, not
the “sale” price. Do your homework
and find out what other merchants
are offering for the same item, and
go for the best deal. Some will match,
or even beat, a competitor’s price - at least for a
limited period. Read the merchant’s pricing policy.
Browsing through websites that compare rates from
different merchants will also help.
Keep associated costs in mind
When going for an online buy, there are also
shipping costs and delivery time to keep in mind.
Most shopping websites waive off shipping costs
if the purchase value is higher than a certain
amount. Also search for discounts and coupons
online before you check out. They can lower costs
considerably.
Don’t give in to impulse buys
Offers such as “buy one, get one free”, “free gift
with purchase” or “free shipping with minimum
38
purchase” may sound good, but if you don’t want or
need the item, it’s best to avoid it. If needed, make
a list of shopping criteria and take this with you. If
you feel the urge to buy something that may verge
on frivolous, take a look at the list and see whether
it is something you really want and not just an
impulse buy.
Shop presales
Many stores advertise their
sales in advance and even
if they don’t do presales,
you can always go 24 hours
in advance and book your
favourite for the day after.
Look out for the best price and not the
sale price. Do your homework and
find out what other merchants are
offering for the same item
9
10
Stick to a budget
This is often the most difficult for
shopaholics to stick to. Even though
may feel like a kid in a candy store, with
an array of fine clothing, chic footwear
and alluring accessories, always remind
yourself of how much you can spend
without going overboard.
Ask for a bigger discount.
Yes, you can. And more often than not,
a store will give you a deeper discount
- especially if you are buying more
than one item. The trick is to be nice to
them pretend you’re on the fence about
something. It’s always in the store’s
interest to make a sale, even if it’s at a
discount.

Smart Application
• Apply a thin coat of
moisturiser to your entire
face. Use only a waterbased moisturiser that
absorbs quickly into your
skin.
• Put a small dot of
foundation you want to
apply on your palm and use
a fresh sponge to soak it
in. With light dabs, press
the makeup sponge all
over your face; apply a very
thin coat of foundation
evenly over the blemish.
Repeat the application
of foundation makeup.
Multiple thin layers works
better than one thick one.

Celeb concearler tricks
Kim Kardashian, the contouring queen, swears by her
concealer, so much so that she even posted pictures on
Twitter documenting the process of her transformation
from an “ordinary looking girl” to a chiselled beauty. In
order to help her fans create the look, Kim gave a step-bystep guide. “I put on all my foundation first,” she said. “I
powder my face, then I put on concealer, and blend it with
a pink egg-like sponge. Then I contour all here – think of
a three. (With her finger she drew an invisible three on the
side of her face) I go cheekbones, under chin, then the
top,” she said online.
Priyanka Chopra keeps her lips nude and accentuates her already defined
cheekbones. She also covers her under eye dark circles smartly. Priyanka
generally goes with MAC’s Studiofix foundation (NC 43) and Bobbi
Brown concealer, which are two products that she cannot do without.
She also claims that she uses a good bit of moisturiser to keep her skin
soft and supple and ready for whichever makeup she puts on. For her
eyes, she swears by the Blacktrack Fluidline from the brand.

Look pretty in the rains
Who does not love monsoon? The fresh air, the
sparkling greens and an overall calm. But for makeup lovers, it is not the favourite season. It’s best
advised to use waterproof make-up for monsoon.
Lisa Munlua, Senior make-up artist, Inglot India,
offers handy tips.
Skin Care
Follow your cleaning, toning and
moisturising routine religiously,
that’s the only way to get and
maintain a healthy glowing skin. In
the hot and humid season, our skin
becomes sticky and attracts more
dust and grime. So wash it more
often than usual.

Foundation
With humidity on the high it is better
to ditch your foundation and replace
it with a loose powder unless you
want a sweaty, tacky looking face.
Loose powders help you perspire less.
The best way to use powders is with
a make-up sponge while your face is
still damp after applying a moisturiser.
For an evening look if you still want
foundation choose a water-proof one.
Eye make-up
Wearing a matte eye shadow is a big
no no for the season. A pearl and
shine ones are more long lasting. Use
a waterproof kohl for a smudge free
look. It is always better to opt for a
coloured waterproof kohl or a gel
eyeliner in place of an eyeshadow, and
your eyes will get all attention needed.
And never forget to pile on layers of the
waterproof mascara.
Face mist
This is what can keep your make-up
stay on your skin, despite the heat
and humidity. Make your own face
mist: mix rose water with mineral
water and store in a spray bottle.
Spray this mist after every make-up
it would set the make-up and make
it water friendly.
Lips
This monsoon make sure you get
yourself a matte lip pencil. More than
summer, monsoon with its humidity
makes your lipstick bleed faster; a lip
pencil will prevent it . Choose tinted
lip balms over a natural lip liner for
best results. Matte lipstick, transfer
resistance lipsticks are some other
textures you can go with. For more
long lasting effect, after every lipstick application dab some loose
powder over the lipstick through a tissue paper.

BB + CC creams
Also known as Blemish Balm (BB) Cream, these offer
smart solutions to blemishes. Apply with your fingers: dot
on your face and then blend in. BB cream does a great
job at concealing under eye circles, too. Dot under the
eyes, blend in. After making sure it’s set, apply the same
cream to the rest of your face.
Once your BB cream is dry, set with a translucent powder.
Always dab or pat your concealer or BB cream, never
swipe or wipe. If you swipe it, it will rub off the top of
your blemish making it even more prominent. CC creams
or colour correctors are different from
concealers; they come in different
colours like green, purple, or
orange. Use them to correct flaws
like under eye circles, redness, or
a sallow complexion. Apply before
your foundation. Orange and
yellow for under the eyes;
green is for redness on the skin
and purple to counteract sallow
complexions.

Rainy day
knots
Knots, braids, beach waves or a classic chignon...
Monsoon hairstyles don’t have to be boring.
C
aught between unruly frizz and ugly hair sticking to the back of your neck
may make you wish to wear a head-wrap to work. But there are simple
hairstyles (seriously simple) that can keep your head stylish even in this hot
and humid season. The easiest way to manage your hair is to get the right
haircut. Shorter lengths seem to be better options but longer lengths when
managed well can prove to be really stylish manes during monsoon. Also, use a dry
shampoo post the blow dry to keep humidity in check. We track some Bollywood girls
and tell you how to adapt their styles easily.
1
Classic Chignon
A chignon may sound complicated but is the best way to
ensure you get party-ready elegant hair in minutes on a
day nothing else works. Part your hair down the middle
and decide which side you want your chignon to be on.
Pull the hair to that side and then create two ponytails;
hold one in each hand. Smooth the hair down and tie
into a loose knot, wrap one side around to the right and
secure with pins. Repeat on the left; finish with more
pins and hairspray!
46
July-August 2014 selectcitywalk.com
3
Braids
2
Wet beach waves
Grandmoms may have advised braids
for longer lengths and stronger roots,
but they are a handy tool on a windy
day as well. And if a few strands fly out,
it’s even better. The simplest side braid
can be done in a jiffy: collect your hair
to one side of your head, low at your
neck, braid loosely and fix the end with
a twisty pin or a band. Put it between
your palms and pat it flat... Let the
flyaways stay!
Get the wet look perfect and this will look better if you actually
get caught unawares in the showers! Wash your hair, towel dry
it, take a small amount of frizz-control serum on your hand and
spread it evenly through your hair. For more prominent waves,
add a little mousse with the serum. Now scrunch your hair up
from the ends to the roots. Let it dry (without a dryer) and let the
waves work their magic!Use some hairspray if you feel it’s going
to be windy.
4
top knot
This is one of the quickest hairstyles to execute and comfortable too on a hot and
sticky day. And even if you are caught in a sudden downpour with your hair down,
this is how you can turn it around smartly. Gather your hair high up on your head
in a ponytail, twist it and tie it. If you have longer hair, use a few bubby pins to
hold it all in place. You can make it neat but the slightly careless one packs more
punch.

Comfort food
Our favourite foodie is on the prowl again, looking for unique flavours.
And this month, she pleases the soul with dishes that fight the blues!
T
he sound of raindrops falling on the ground, the smell
of wet earth, clouds that make you only want to stare at
nothingness in the sky… there is hardly anything that I
don’t love about Monsoons! So give me a bucket full of
French fries, bread loaded on bread, and anything sweet
that warms the heart and this girl will be a happy camper! For what
more do you need on a rainy day except for a book to read, some love in
the heart and yummy, simple, no fancy comfort food? Here’s my list of
this monsoon’s must haves!
European fondue @ Haagen Dazs
6 scoops of

CITYWALK!
Have you ever crossed a place cooking great
food and stopped in your tracks as you smelled
heaven wafting through the doors? Haagen
Dazs does that to me every time. I know exactly
when they make their waffle cones, when
there’s a dark chocolate sauce run and when
there’s a new flavor on the menu. So on a rainy
day, take a bunch of people you love, sit down
and order their European fondue. Look at
that platter of glory and you will take a couple
of minutes to believe that so much of a good
thing can be served all at once! So here’s what
it is, 6 scoops of icecream – vanilla, Belgian
chocolate, cookies and cream and strawberry,
pieces of crisp on the outside soft on the inside waffle, thin rolled crepes, gooey chocolate
cake and fresh cut fruit served with a chocolate sauce so luscious, that it envelops your
mouth to give you a outworldly experience.
Not enough of a sweet high? Dip your choice
crisp waffle, thin crepes,
of condiment in a titillating caramel dipping
gooey chocolate cake
sauce. One taste and you will melt away with
the rains! For what else is fondue except food
with
of the angels?

Jalapeno Cheese Melt
@ Wetzels’ pretzels
Here’s the thing with cheese,
it can make you feel warm,
fuzzy and all things happy on
the inside. Combine that with
a soft, buttery, pillowy pretzel
and you know it’s a recipe for
something delicious – literally! Tucked away at the 2nd
floor corner of Select CITYWALK is Wetzel’s Pretzels
– a store that creates one of
the highest ranked comfort
foods of all times! So is it
any surprise that my recommendation for this month is
a jalapeno cheese melt? Top
a cheese laden pretzel with
tangy, spicy bites of jalapeno
and you basically hit all the
right spots! Head on over,
and grab this mouth watering
savoury!
buttery

Croissant @ L’opera
Have you always thought of a bakery that does
all sweets? Don’t forget that they also bring all
things carb – breads, pastries, tarts and more.
Bakeries also give you your dose of savoury fulfillment! So this monsoon, head over to L’opera
and grab a buttery flaky croissant – a bread that
can be a meal on its own. Have it toasted, with
some organic jam, a drizzle of honey or just on its
own! A breakfast must-have this is sure to start
your day on a note of deliciousness!

Rocket Double @ Johnny Rockets
Want to experience a bit of American diner
culture here in the city? Then your first stop
has to be Johnny rockets! A jukebox, some
American freestyle dancing and big, bad
burgers.. They’re doing everything right! So
this monsoon, make a stop at this joint to
give yourself a bit of soul food. Order the
Rcoket double – cheddar cheese, crisp lettuce, juicy tomato slices, onions, their special
white sauce all laden on TWO – that’s right
– TWO juicy patties! Take your pick between
veggie and non-veggie (I recommend the
Tenderloin). Remember to take someone
with you to finish this monstrosity or make
sure that you are completely famished before
you attempt to take this down!
I can’t end this recommendation without
suggesting my ultimate comfort food.
When you’re down and out, or happy as
can be, whether you’re sulking or moping
or in the mood to celebrate, all you will
ever need to bring a smile on your face is
a big helping of crisp on the outside, pillowy soft on the inside French fries. Eat
them with ketchup, mayo or mustard, eat
them hot or cold… want to give your soul
a hog? French fries are your sure shot
way to nirvana! Get them at Alaturka,
Harry’s, or take them up a notch and eat
them topped with cheese and bacon at
Johnny rockets! Just remember, don’t let
this monsoon go by without offering your
prayers to this food-of-the-gods!

Kerala
Kerala has always been an all-encompassing travel destination where

fringed beaches, drive through wild life parks and then soothe your senses
with an Ayurvedic massage. All this and more, in Kerala, is at its prime

separates the Garo and Khasi Hills.

Ward’s Lake, Shillong has a pretty
ornamental bridge and beautiful
flower beds. Walk 15 minutes
northeast of the lake to visit the
rolling meadows of Shillong Golf
Course , bordered by pine trees and
fronted by a pretty clubhouse.
Moors & Waterfalls
The Nohkalikai Falls are particularly
dramatic, especially in the monsoon
when their capacity increases
20-fold. You can see them easily
enough without quite entering
the official viewpoint , 4.4km
southwest of Sohra market.
Meghalaya
Separating the Assam valley from the plains of Bangladesh, hilly Meghalaya – the ‘abode of clouds’ – is a cool, wet and pinefresh mountain state set on dramatic horseshoes of rocky cliffs. Cherrapunjee and Mawsynram are statistically the wettest
places on earth. Most of the rain falls between June and September, creating very impressive waterfalls and carving out some of
Asia’s longest caves. The state’s population predominantly comprises the Jaintia, Khasi and Garo tribes, who live in the eastern,
central and western parts respectively. A good time to be in Meghalaya is when the four day Wangala festival takes place in
autumn. Renowned for its impressive tribal dancing, this harvest festival is also noted for its traditional drum recitals.

Rajastha is a fantasy of scalloped arches, domes, turrets and canopied

most of the palaces and forts are located near villages, you can experience
another culture and lifestyle – rural India at its prettiest – without forsaking
the comfort of a modern heritage hotel. The village of Delwara, at the foot
of Devi Garh Fort is one such example. The city of Udaipur, with its majestic
City Palace, the biggest in India, is a 30-minute drive away from Devi Garh.
The ancient forts of Chittorgarh and Kumbhalgarh can be seen in day trips.

Udaipur though, proudly hosts one. The Sajjangarh Palace, popularly known

it’s cheaper to visit then, too.

Goa in
Monsoon
Deepti Bhatnagar on what pulls her to Goa
holiday after holiday
G
olden beaches, classic villas
and churches, sumptuous
cuisine, smiling locals and,
of course, feni - these are
the charms of Goa that
everyone knows about. But what is it that
keeps me coming back to the place? It’s
the sense of belonging that I feel there.
Recently, actor and model Pooja
Batra, who is also a very good friend,
flew down to India all the way from
Los Angeles - and our obvious choice
for a holiday, as you may have guessed,
was Goa.
Monsoon in India’s smallest state and
biggest tourist attraction is magical. In
that small window when the monsoon
has not yet not set in and the weather
is at its most pleasant, Goa is a haven
of lush greenery, sea breezes and idyllic
comfort. Pooja and I stayed at the Grand
Hyatt, which spreads across 28 acres
of tropical lawns that roll down to the
stunning waters of the Bambolim Bay. It
has a huge spa and a lovely pool where
we spent most of our time swimming,
chatting and pampering ourselves enjoying like little girls when it began to
rain while we were still in its crystal clear,
blue waters.
We started our mornings with a walk
around the beautiful property and then
topped it up with a lavish breakfast,
throwing all thought of calories to the air.
We were on a holiday, after all.
Goa combines the best of both worlds
for the visitor - it can be tranquil and
soothing on the one hand and full of an
undying, jaunty energy on the other. And
there’s no better place that suits the party
spirit than the bars in Goa. One of our
favourites was Cape Town Café in Baga,
July-August 2014 selectcitywalk.com
which had great music and even better cocktails. What
added to the fun were the scores of football fans who
turned up to cheer their favourite teams for the FIFA
World Cup.
Mum’s Kitchen in Panjim is another place I love
in Goa. Its delicious, sumptuous food is as wonderful
is only enhanced by the experience of watching the
city through a thick sheet of rain. Pooja and I would
often stroll along Baga Beach when it rained, watching
the waves crash on the beach, the sky an unending,
nostalgic shade of blue and hear the sound of the
raindrops plopping into the waters of the Arabian Sea.
When we had our fill of the scenery, we would sit out
in the shacks along the beach and just take it all in,
munching on a local delicacy or sipping Goa’s favourite
drink, feni.
This time, though, I decided to do something I had
been planning on for quite some time but never gotten
around to doing - hiring a Scooty and going for a short
excursion in the city all by ourselves. We drove around
Anjuna and the smaller villages, all the while rain
selectcitywalk.com July-August 2014
droplets on our faces. At the end of the day, we parked
our Scooty at Vagator and watched the sun set and the
sky take on an inky blackness. But that did not seem
to deter kids from enjoying a round of football on the
now-dark beach.
Goa sees maximum tourist footfall during New Year,
when hotels are booked out months in advance and the
state crawling with people. Though it is true that the
season brings out the festive best in people, I feel it is
Goa’s monsoon that is truly beautiful. The rains paint
the landscape in myriad shades of green, the sky takes
on a character quite its own as it harbours clouds of all
shapes and size - and hotels offer really great deals. So
all in one go, you can enjoy good rooms, good food and
great weather.
Fresh from my monsoon holiday in Goa, I can think
of only one song to sum up my experience: “No matter
where I am, no matter what I do, I’m always coming
back home to you.” Cheers to that, Goa!

celeb interview
Bollywood’s
favourite fashionista
A name synonymous to fashion is Sonam Kapoor. Her confidence of course
goes beyond what she wears and adds that extra spunk. Sayanti Banerjee
catches up with this stylish diva for a few tips and tricks on grooming
I
f there is one celebrity who looks comfortable
in her own skin, literally, it has to be Sonam
Kapoor. She would never shy away from the
camera even if she goes sans make-up and
her candid pix when caught at the airports or
back stage of rehearsals testify the same. Here’s
getting up, close and personal with her.
Are you fond of wearing make-up?
I love make up as it makes me feel like the
little girl playing with her mother’s make-up
box. The shades of pink in lipstick
and blush-ons are my personal
favourites. But then I am not
obsessed with make-up as I
prefer looking confident
with or without it. So the
add-on of colours just
make me feel happier
I guess.
When it comes
to fashion,
what is your
personal style
statement?
Women are
beautiful by birth
and we should
celebrate that all
our lives. Being well
turned out is very
important according to
me as then only people
take you seriously.
Like they say ‘Cleanliness
is next to Godliness’.
But honestly, I am a very
impulsive person. So I do
not plan what to wear as it
all depends upon my mood
at that point of time. As far
66
as designers are concerned, I do love to
wear clothes from designer Anamika
Khanna’s collection.
So what is your take on the
current fashion scenario?
Not many people know that I
am fond of Indian weaves as
well like silk mul mul, chanderi
and banarasi too. I feel sad
when I see that people no
longer value the artisans or
take interest in traditional
fabrics and embroideries and
handworks that are a part of
our rich cultural heritage.
Any woman you look upto
for your inspiration?
Author Jhumpa Lahiri is a
beautiful woman. The face
of Indian cinema is changing
as well. Women are getting to
play more pivotal roles. There
are also growing opportunities
now, for instance my
contemporary Anushka Sharma
is producing an upcoming film
NH10, apart from acting in the
film.
It’s common
knowledge that
Sonam loves her
wardrobe, especially
the designer brands.
But she loves high
street too; with Zara
being one of her
favourites. Here we
see her (left) sporting
a pair of bright blue
cropped Zara pants .

Lekar Hum
Deewana Dil
Bobby Jasoos
(July 4,)
For the fans of Vidya Balan,
Bobby Jasoos promises to be
a must watch film. As the title
character, the actress dons
various avtaars in her quest to
become the best detective in
Hyderabad. When she goes
ahead to start her own detective
agency, the list of clients prove
to be rather unusual. Directed
by Samar Shaikh, what follows
in this movie next is what the
audience needs to watch out for.
Releasing in AUGUST,14
(July 4,)
A movie that looks fresh
and fun from the promos is
Lekar Hum Deewana Dil. It is
supposed to be based on the
lifestyle and attitude of the
young couple Dino (Armaan
Jain) and Karishma (Deeksha
Seth). They prefer a carefree life
wondering across cities with
their friends. But the fairy tale
meets reality when the heroine’s
family tries to get her married.
Chaarfutiya

Chaarfutiya Chhokare is

unusual story as well. It is

by Soha Ali Khan, who is an

to start a school in Bihar.
But her optimism soon gets
affected by challenges.

Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day had Select CITYWALKER’s shoppers participating in both online-offline contests.
We asked the shoppers to click a picture at the
Mother’s Day photo-op at the shopping centre
and upload it on our Twitter/Facebook page with
#SelfieWithSupermom. Entries flooded across both
platforms from various age groups. People sent
feedback and shared their lovely memories with
their selfies at the shopping centre!
Doraemon
Challenge
Doraemon visited Select CITYWALK this
May. A simple challenge was held on our
Twitter page for people with passes up for
grabs. Ten simple questions were asked
about Doreamon and we received a fabulous response. The contest set the Twitter
abuzz with our page being flooded with
thousands of tweets.
Father’s Day
A gaming app was created on
our Facebook page. People could
choose to be a boy or girls icon.
Goodies related to parents were
dropped from above and people
had to collect all father related
products. The people who collected 3rd highest number of products
won the contest.
