guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. So
whoever sights [the new moon of] the month, let him fast it; and whoever is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of other days. Allah
intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship and [wants]
for you to complete the period and to glorify Allah for that [to] which
He has guided you; and perhaps you will be grateful. Surat Al-Baqarah

ICOSA MOTHER’s CLUB
Mothers club arranged a farewell in the honor of Sr. Kartini Shahabuddin,
coordinator of Mother’s club as she will not be continuing her role in the future due to personal reasons. All the members of mothers club praised her
active participation in this role and selfless contribution for the school and
community by herself and the family.
Mothers club also arranged free Ramadan Iftar pack which was distributed
among the students and staff. We are thankful to the chairperson and the
members who helped in preparing and distributing the iftar package. This
program will also continue after term holidays, if any brother/sister wants
to contribute, please contact office administration or Sr Attia Hashmi, chairperson of mothers club.
The club is also organizing a Ramadan Bazar on July 24 in school
which will have different stalls and activities for ladies and children.
We are pleased to announce that as a result of ICOSA
board’s strong focus and commitment to improve information technology facilities at our school, we have upgraded our school communication system to fiber optics
which will enormously improve internet bandwidth
speed that we had before and going to benefit students
and staff while using internet at school.

Ramadan Kareem to all of you and your loved ones. ALLAH (SWT) has given us another opportunity to reap fully the benefits of His bounty by keeping us alive and reaching this holy month. May your days and nights of
Ibadah be fully blessed by ALLAH (SWT).
Pupils are given a checklist of good deeds
they like to implement in Ramadan onwards.
We hope parents will give moral support in
developing good characters in children.
Congratulations to all pupils who have done their best in this term. Very soon you will be getting the reports.
We have appointed 24 pupils from Year 2 to be prefects to be good role models to others. They will be stationed at different spots during recess and lunch. All pupils are expected to abide by the rules and respect the
prefects as they will report to the teachers in charge of yard duty. The prefects will be introduced to others in
the first week of term 3 and thereafter they will commence their duty.
To be fair to the others who are responsible and display good behaviour consistently, they will have a chance
to be appointed as prefects in the term 4.

A message from Australian Refugee Association (ARA)
“The Social Support Program at the Australian Refugee Association (ARA) is currently looking for Dari and Farsi
speaking volunteers. This program links clients with a trained volunteer (18 years and over) who visits in the
home on a regular basis. Volunteers can offer support through the provision of practical assistance, general
guidance, information, advocacy and friendship etc. If you are interested and would like to know more, please
phone either Jane or Joni on 8161 3325”.
Year 8 Girls
Second term is over! Half of the year gone! Our girls have been working hard to getting used to the lockers to store their belongings. Mostly, the girls are doing a good job remembering to put their things away
at the end of the day. However, we still need to be consistent and persistent with good locker practice
and also keeping our class room neat and tidy. As good Muslims we should pick things of the floor even if
we did not drop them.
Since it is the holy month of Ramadan, a time we try to earn extra rewards, the girls should try to improve
their manners and themselves as good human beings. Please take the opportunity during this break to
help the family with the house hold chores and especially help mum prepare food, also clean up and wash
afterwards. We must show gratitude to mum not by just appreciating and enjoying her delicious food but
by also helping her voluntarily.
Moreover, we should try to pray on time, recite Quran as much as possible, practise patience and not use
foul language. In return our rewards get multiplied 70 times. Such is the mercy of Allah (SHW). Being a
good person and doing what is right is not only helpful in this life but here after too.
Art Room News!
This term we have done a lot of creative work. These include Boomerang Design by Year7, Canned Sculptures by Year 8 and Abstract Paintings by Year 9. Due to some practical issues we may not be able to display some of the work. This is usually the case. Currently we are only able to display certain type of art.

Year 6H Newsletter
The first semester is over and reports have been written. Please read the report with your child and celebrate
their achievement and also discuss areas that have scope for improvement. I can't stress enough how important listening skills are, especially in a large class. Some students are experiencing problems and achieving
low results even in the creative, fun subjects because they are not making the effort to complete work. Students needs to take responsibility for their learning as teachers can only teach the work, set the tasks, monitor
the learning and review work that is not understood, but ultimately it is the students who need to make the effort to comply with all the requirements if they want to show progress.
I wish my students a happy and safe holiday and urge them to allocate some holiday time to reading and visiting their local public library. They could also review some of the work that they have done. See you all next
term.

Year 4
As we near the end of Term 2, we congratulate the Year 4 students on a successful semester. They have
achieved pleasing results in their reading and we congratulate them on their hard work. We encourage parents
to ensure students are completing all their homework including reading 20 minutes every night. We applaud
the students on their public speaking skills they displayed during their Endangered Species Project in Science,
and will continue to develop their oral presentation skills in Terms 3 and 4. We look forward to continuing to
work in collaboration with you for the good of your child, celebrating their successes this and in next term.

Kindergarten NEWS
Dear Parents/ Caregivers
Asslaam-u-Alaikum
In last few weeks children were engaged in learning Islamic Studies and Arabic with Ms. Dallah and Mr. Mohamed. As you know in week 9 we went on excursion to Al Khalil Mosque. We were greeted there by Sheikh
Sulieman and Education Coordinators Sister Sharifa and her husband. This was an excellent opportunity for
children to learn very little things in context; such as etiquettes to enter and exit the Mosque, how to get ready
for prayer, where and how to stand for prayer. They also shared stories with us about being kind to animals.
Children enjoyed their journey on bus they sang songs and saw lots of things on their way to Mosque; we spotted patrol station, supermarket, shopping center, school, playground and some of the children even pointed towards their homes. We owe a big THANKS to all parent volunteers who came with us and helped us in Mosque.
As you all know Holy month of Ramadan is started now. In last two weeks of this term we will be learning
about Ramadan and its importance in Muslims life. You will see decorations made by children in our kindy.
All kindy staff wishes you very blessed Ramadan and safe holiday break. Don’t forget to check our learning

Skating Princess
ALYSSA
“Rrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiinnnnnnnngggggg!” I woke up to the sound of my phone ringing. I dragged my hand over to my bedside table and grabbed my phone. Fifteen
missed calls and thirty messages, all from the one and only Bonnie. Bonnie is my best friend, she’s a real good girl, but just has anger management problems. I
answered the phone and listened to Bonnie scream at me, “Alyssa! What are you doing?! I’ve called you, like, fifteen times already!”
“Sorry Bon-bon, I had skating practice yesterday. I always go to school late.” I stifled a yawn and waited for Bonnie to reply.
“Yeah well, I’m sorry, I forgot and I just thought you might want to meet me at my house so we can walk.”
“Alright, give me twenty minutes.”
“Okay, bye.”
I hung up and slid my feet off to the side of my bed. I stretched and yawned for five minutes and dragged myself to my wardrobe. I chose a violet woollen
jumper and a pair of black skinny jeans to match my converse high-tops. As I walked to the bathroom to do my hair, my mum popped her head out of her
bedroom door. “How are you?” she looked at me with her dazzling, emerald green eyes.
“Oh, I’m good. I’m just going to walk up to Bonnie’s house.”
“Okay, are you sure you’re up to it?”
“Yeah, I’ll be fine.” I walked into the bathroom to put bandages on my blistered feet. As I rolled the bandage over my foot that was red with blisters, I must
have fallen asleep, because Bonnie came running into the bathroom like an angered bull. She yelled at the top of her lungs, ”ALYSSA! Wake up! I told you to
come to my house an hour ago!” I woke up to the sound of a roaring lion and I was startled,”Huh? Why are you screaming at me?” I asked her, not remembering our conversation on the phone earlier.
“Why am I screaming at you?! I’m screaming at you because you didn’t listen to what I told you to do!” Then it all came flooding back to me, the phone call
and thirty messages.
“Look Bonnie, I’m sorry, okay, I really am. I’m just really tired and my whole body’s aching.” I pointed to my foot and Bonnie cooled down.
“I forgive you, you know how I just lose it at times.”
“Yeah, I know, now give me five minutes and we’ll leave.” Bonnie nodded and ran down stairs. I brushed my chestnut hair and plaited it to the side. I quickly
brushed my teeth, penetrating my putrid, pongy breath. I raced downstairs before Bonnie could get angry again, grabbed my lunch and breakfast, pulling
Bonnie outside.
We walked in silence for a while and I said to Bonnie, “What’s the big deal? You know I come late to school.” I waited for her to answer.
“Well, I just thought that ice skating wasn’t much of a big deal, you know.”
“You’re joking, right.” I laughed and her expression told me it was no joke,”Uh, you know how much skating means to me. I use all of my strength to do it.”
“Well, yeah, but you’re no fun anymore and it’s all because of your dumb little skating classes.” Her stare burned my insides, it meant trouble. I stared back at
her with tears welling up, but I told myself to keep calm because if I started crying Bonnie would get a big head. She let go of my hand and stomped off. I
stood alone with the wind howling. After a few minutes, I felt a sickening feeling in the pit of my stomach, wait for it… Wait for it…”Blurgh!” I stood there
on the path emptying the contents of my stomach. Twenty minutes later, I walked home and went to bed feeling like my whole body was empty. I kept saying
to myself, “How could she.” Over and over again until my eyes closed and I drifted off to sleep.
BONNIE
I stomped off to school with my face glowing red. Alyssa is always off skating and she never has time for me, what kind of a friend does that?
“Hey Bonnie, where’s Alyssa?” It was Stephanie, a beautiful girl with blonde hair and blue eyes.
“Oh, she’s um, she’s uh, well she sort of, actually I sort of…” I sighed and looked at Stephanie. She knew right then and there what I had done.
“How could you? You know that skating means everything to Alyssa!” Sophie screamed and everyone stopped talking. There was an awkward silence. I ran
off feeling shame and fury at the same time. I hate Stephanie and I hate Alyssa. In fact, I hate everyone and everything on this Earth! I’m the one who’s suffering and no one even cares! If I can’t have what I want, then neither can anyone else! It’s time to get revenge.
I walked out calmly into the school courtyard and everyone stared at me, “What? Do you have a problem? I guess not, so stop looking at me!” As soon as
those words fell from my mouth, everyone ran away as if they had seen the most horrifying sight. Good! That’ll teach them! No one ever messes with me! I
proceeded to my first class. Maths, great! Time to get naughty!
ALYSSA
I slowly awoke from my slumber feeling great until my memories came back to me. To make things worse my worry-sick mother rushed in as pale as a ghost,
“Are you alright? I’m so anxious, why are you here? You went to school with Bonnie, but you come back? You have some explaining to do missy!”
“You’re right mum, I’m sorry. I just broke up with Bonnie and felt sick.” I groaned and pulled the covers over my head. I felt like a ghost, I didn’t want to be
seen or heard. My mum let me be and closed the door shut.
I felt like skating, but I couldn’t since I was in bed and not feeling too good. But I didn’t care; I grabbed my skates and put them in my backpack. Tip-toeing
down the stairs, I gaped. My mum was sitting in the off-white pod chair near the front door. Too late, she’s seen me. She knows me too well.
“Where are you off to?”
“Oh, I just wanted to go skating.” I lowered my gaze and waited for a long lecture but it didn’t come, instead, “Well why didn’t you say so? Let’s go!”
BONNIE
I’m pretty good at all this; being naughty thing. I already let a mouse loose in maths class, threw a fake spider on the teacher’s desk, frightening her to death
and even screaming, “BOO!” at everyone who passed me. It just cracked me up. It’s also helping with the BFF issues too. Oh, the principal’s looking for me,
things don’t look so good.
ALYSSA
I could see people of all ages skating around the rink in a clockwise motion. Tiny tots trying to skate, look like babies taking their first steps. I can smell hot
cocoa and chips. They’re making my mouth water. Parents and guardians are sitting on the benches while they watch their children glide and stumble. I touch
the cold ice; the energy runs through my body, making me feel happy and joyous. I taste the cold air as it melts in my mouth. My mum takes my hand and we
laugh as we drift across the ice hand in hand. My hair flows out behind me. I am a free bird.
THE NEXT DAY
BONNIE
I walked into school and giggled as I remembered the mischief from yesterday, and my prize was a detention and 1000 lines. Excellent! Stephanie and a
bunch of other girls were huddling around. I walked over to see what all the commotion was about. I gasped. “Alyssa?” I whispered quietly and covered my
mouth in astonishment. Stephanie turned around and rolled her eyes. “What are you doing here?” I asked, pretending to not really care.
“Oh, you know, the usual, I’m at school as always.”
“Alright…” We returned nods and walked off. I guess we’ll never be the same.
ALYSSA
I nodded and back and we parted. I went to science and she went to maths. Our relationship as best buddies will never be the same, but hey! Who said we
could never be friends again and enjoy each other’s company while it lasts?

Year 7 Girls
Year 11 Biology Excursion to Cleland Wildlife Park 26th June 2014
Year 11 Biology students went on an excursion to the Cleland wild life park to explore their knowledge of
adaptations of animals as part of their Biology curriculum. They enjoyed habitat walk, a lecture on habitat
and conservation of animals and an animal show. They got an opportunity to see and study many amazing
native Australian plants and animals, which are at the verge of extinction. Due to the beautiful weather we
were able to see many animals. The students availed this opportunity with dedication and enjoyed fully.
They found it very informative and interesting.

The Soccer Mini World Cup concluded with Brazil(7B) and Germany (6A) teams playing the finals. Brazil maintained their unbeaten record and won the Mini World Cup. Players from all
the teams displayed good sportsmanship and excellent skills. The atmosphere during all the
games was electrifying with the students showing support for their favorite teams. The students enjoyed every minute of the games and so did the players. Plans are under way to start
league games in term 3 and 4. Students will be informed once time and venues are confirmed. I would like to thank Mr Grant Bryne who helped me in refereeing the games. Many
thanks also goes to the school board, the principal, other teachers, office staff and parents.

QURAN COMETITION
Quran Competition was held in last week of the term in which the whole school participated
with zeal and enthusiasm. Free sausage were provided to children and parents who attended
the competition. Winners were awarded cash prizes and Holy Quran. We are thankful to Br. Riyad El-Rifai to grace the occasion by becoming part of the judges panel.
