Gallopin’ Around Saugerties
This year’s community public art
theme features 30 artist-painted
fiberglass horses. The horses will
adorn the streets of Saugerties
from Memorial Day to Labor
Day. The event will culminate in
the ‘Gallopin’ Gala’ on Saturday,
September 17 at SPAF. Walking
maps are available showing the
location of each horse along with
the artist’s name and sponsor.

relaxing stroll, for launching a
kayak, or for the many events

Lighthouse

Docent-guided tours of the
interior of the Lighthouse are
available on Sunday afternoons
in the summertime from Memorial Day through Labor Day
weekend from noon to 3p.m.
Suggested donation of $5 for
adults; $2 for children. Tours are
approximately 20 minutes, which
includes an overview of the history of the Lighthouse, perusal
of the museum, and a view from
the tower. The small museum
inside displays images and artifacts of the original Lighthouse
and the commercial heyday of

Seamon’s Park

Festival, held the first Sunday
of October. This highly anticipated event ushers in a month of
leisurely strollls along paths lined
with fall plantings, interspersed

demonstrations, an art show, live

Seamon Park is the site where
a sawyer operated a mill from
1652 to 1663 on a stream that
forms the northern boundary
of the park. An original wheel
can still be seen near the site.
School children donated pennies to purchase the “boy and
girl under an umbrella” fountain
near the the front gate. A bronze
tiered fountain on the upper level,
circled with flowers, is a favorite
location for wedding pictures

Martin Cantine, who owned and operated the Martin Cantine Paper Company,
officially handed over what was then a 31 acre property to the Town of Saugerties on
May 8, 1938, along with a sizeable monetary donation for its maintenance. It was
officially named “Cantine Field” and for decades it served as it does today, as a Community Park for organized and recreational sports, leisure and other essential quality of
life endeavors ordinarily associated with the great outdoors.
