About WDS 2009, Mumbai
A World Dental Show beyond Compare!!!
An Indian Dental Association Initiative
The World Dental Show 2009 (WDS) is an initiative
of the Indian Dental Association (IDA). IDA is the
authoritative voice of dental professionals in India,
dedicated to dental excellence and has grown from
strength to strength over the last six decades.
WDS is one of the world’s largest annual dental
exhibitions. This years WDS 2009 scheduled to be
held in Mumbai from 9 - 11 October, 2009 promises to
be a highly focused and specifically designed dentalbusiness event showcasing a comprehensive range
of state-of-the-art products, services and innovative
technologies that cater to the dental profession
around the globe.
Mumbai being the financial capital is the ideal city to
host WDS 2009 which will be an enterprising meeting
hub for decision-makers and will attract 20,000 dental
professionals, academicians, scientists, clinicians,
research workers, 290 dental institutions, trade,
9 specialty dental associations and more than 200
manufacturers, more than 3000 dental laboratories,
policy makers from the Indian Government and allied
health professional across all over the Asian region
under the ubiquitous IDA umbrella.
Why the World Dental Show?
International exhibitors who have participated
4
in the past 63 national annual
conferences, 4 international APDFCDA and World Dental Congress
expressed the innate desire that
IDA should have regular dental
exhibitions held at one location so
that they can meet potential visitors
and distributors and showcase their
innovative products, equipments
and instruments to explore and
understand the need to build
loyalty and brand image to their
products, on a regular basis, and to
build a strong customer base.
With its vast experience and invaluable contribution
to the dental profession and oral health of the public,
IDA has now drawn up a plan to organise the WDS
on a regular basis at a fixed location which had to be
the most central place accessible to the international
exhibitors and visitors.
Keeping this yardstick in mind and the projected
demand for dental equipment and products, IDA has
set about the task of preparing for the World Dental
Show in Mumbai.
This event will provide the unique platform and
resources to companies and organizations in the oral
healthcare industry with a futuristic understanding of
the Indian dental industry and market potential for
their products in India.
The Indian Advantage!
To explore the hitherto unexplored market...
WDS 2009 focused on the theme “The future of
Dentistry is here to stay” is to demonstrate to the
world that the future of dentistry lies here, in India.
As the Indian economy continues to grow and as
the government’s ambitious plan of ‘Oral Health
for All by 2020’ is set in force, it offers tremendous
opportunities for the dental industry to grow, and the

potential for the dental market unfolds itself waiting
to be explored.
This exhibition will set a new trend in Indian
dentistry and among the Asian countries and will mark
the beginning of a new era in Indian dentistry.
Indian Dentistry hopes to see a big movement
ahead. The ever-growing demand in basic needs of
oral health and general health make India one of the
biggest markets for healthcare in the world. Today
Indian Dentistry is being appreciated worldwide for
its cost effectiveness and superior clinical skills.
India itself is a vast market for the dental products
and, in the last five years, the number of dental
professionals has increased from 60,000 to 1,25 000
and is projected to be more than 2,00,000 in the
next five years. Every year more than 20,000 dental
graduates are added to this list.
The number of dental institutions have also
correspondingly increased from 120 to 289 in the
past ten years. There are more than 300 medical
institutions and 200 big hospitals in the country having
independent dental departments. India perhaps
has the highest number of dental institutions in the
world which is an indication of how the Indian dental
market is growing rapidly. WDS provides an excellent
opportunity to explore the vast Indian market for oral
healthcare products.
Governments Liberalized Industrial and
import Policy
The doors of Indian market for great business
opportunities are wide open.
World
Dental
Show
Investment of foreign
capital in industrial ventures
is strongly encouraged by the
Government of India. The liberalised
economic environment and the emergence
of a favourable investment climate have
given rise to pursuance of flexible policies
conducive to increased investment. Liberalised
import policies are being made even more flexible
to ensure that investors get the full benefit of these
fertile conditions for investment. For speedy clearance
of goods through customs, the organizing committee
will gladly render all possible assistance.
WDS 2009 will provide an “ Great Opportunity for
Generating Business”
People from all over the world are looking at India as a huge
market for outsourcing high quality dental equipments,
instruments and materials at a very competitive price.
Some of the dental materials and oral health products
manufactured in India have been branded as high quality
and meet the exacting global standards. Given such
a dental scenario, it will prove to be one of the biggest
international exhibitions ever staged.
Many international participants from Brazil, China,
Germany, Italy, Korea, Taiwan, Europe, USA and
Canada are excited to know that the Indian Dental
Association, the largest body of dental professionals in
the country, is organizing this international event and
are waiting for this opportunity to meet the potential
dental professionals and distributors. The established
exhibitors in the Indian market are comfortable and

keen to develop their brand image and continuity
in the Indian dental market. The first movers to the
Indian market are eagerly waiting to step into the vast
unexplored Indian market as early as possible.
WDS 2009: A large platform to develop personal
business relationship
Spread over an exhibition area of 25,000 sq meters,
the exhibition, planned for three days, is expected
to attract more than 20,000 visitors from India and
abroad. The WDS will have 450 booths to house
the participating exhibitors from Asia, Europe and
USA and will enable the first time movers to make
a beginning and the existing ones to enhance their
personal business relationship.
This event in the present format is expected to
attract excellent participation from foreign as well as
Indian manufacturers of dental products as compared
to the previous annual conferences with the dental
industry zooming to a growth of 40% in the last year.
This is a movement and not an event. India is one of the
largest markets in the world for dental manufacturers.
And this sector is expected to grow by leaps and
bounds in the coming five years. Given the fact that
the domestic companies are not able to meet this
growing demand, dental professionals from India have
to depend to large extent on imported products.
WDS 2009 would be promoted as the Event
of the Year
IDA would be promoting this event nationally and
6
internationally by attending conferences,
through the world wide web, emailers
and SMSes. IDA would develop one to
one contact with key organisations,
besides promoting and publicizing the
event through publications like the
IDA Times, Dental Events and other
publications of IDA.
The information would reach
1,25,000 potential dental professionals
and distributors and all potential
visitors well in advance and wide
publicity would be given about your participation in
the World Dental Show. The visitors can e-mail initial
queries which can be sorted out and much before
the arrival, appointments can be arranged. You can
start building personal relationships so that every
minute during the show can be utilized in the follow
up meetings.
WDS 2009 on par in terms of international
facilitation
WDS benchmarked to be the highest standard of
international facilitation in regard to exhibitors and
visitors services. The event will boost the image of
India as a prime mover in the world of dentistry.
Glorious Background
Indian Dental Association has so far organized
successfully 63 annual conferences at different
locations in the country. Besides, IDA also organized
four international events which were grand successes,
experienced by dental manufacturers and the dental
fraternity from all over the world.

Mumbai
INDIA is one of the oldest civilisations in the
world with a kaleidoscopic variety and rich
cultural heritage. It has achieved multifaceted
socio-economic progress during the last 62
years of its Independence. India has become
self- sufficient in agricultural production, and
is now the tenth industrialised country in the
world and the sixth nation to have gone into
outer space to conquer nature for the benefit of
the people. It extends from the snow- covered
Himalayan heights in the north to the tropical
rain forests of the south. As the seventh largest
country in the world, India stands apart from
the rest of Asia, marked off as it is by mountains
and the sea, which give the country a distinct
geographical entity. Bounded by the Great
Himalayas, it stretches southwards and at the
Tropic of Cancer, tapers off into the Indian
Ocean between the Bay of Bengal on the east
and the Arabian Sea on the west.
Lying entirely in the northern hemisphere, the
mainland extends between latitudes 8°4’ and
37°6’ north, longitudes 68°7’ and 97°25’ east, and
measures about 3,214 km from north to south
between the extreme latitudes and about 2,933
km from east to west between the extreme
longitudes. It has a land frontier of about
15,200 km. The total length of the coastline of
the mainland, Lakshadweep Islands, and the
Andaman and Nicobar Islands is 7,516.6 km.
Mumbai is India´s finance centre,
the economic powerhouse of the
nation, heart of the Hindi film industry
and the industrial hub of everything
from textiles to petrochemicals and the
commercial and trading centre.
Mumbai, known as the Commercial Capital
of India, is the economic hub of most of the
financial and business activities of the country.
The Island city contributes no less than 10% of
all factory employment, 60% of customs duty
collections, 40% of income tax collections, 40%
of foreign trade and 20% of central excise tax
collections of India. Moreover, it produces a huge
amount, of Rupees 40 billion (US$ 9 billion), in
corporate taxes.
It is the epitome of the glamour of Bollywood
cinema, cricket on the maidans (open grassed
areas), bhelpuri (a spicy sweet Mumbai snack)
on the beach of Chowpatty, outstanding colonial
architecture and red double-decker buses.

IDA's 60 years of commitment par excellence towards oral health care
The World Dental Show is one of the rare events when you see a dentist on his way to see another, or
many for that matter. During the event, oral health experts from India and abroad will gather to share information
and insights on the latest developments in dentistry and treatment; making it one of its kind opportunity to analyze
and leverage dental care in India.
