Blessings
As I look back on another successful year for the Make-AWish® Foundation of Mississippi, I am reminded again of the
blessing we each receive from our opportunity to serve others
together and to be part of a great mission. I am extremely fortunate to join with our outstanding Team and volunteer Board
who have worked tirelessly during the year to build on a prior
record year for fundraising achievement and wish granting for
your Chapter. In the fiscal year ending August 31, 2012, the MS
Chapter achieved an all-time record for fundraising with approximately $1.366 million raised and it was recognized at the
National Convention as the most improved chapter among all
63 Make-A-Wish® chapters in America. We also strengthened
the liquidity of our chapter while granting 113 wishes.
All of this teamwork and dedication have positioned the Chapter to enhance our
ability to serve our mission in the coming year. We aspire to grant wishes to all eligible children in Mississippi with life-threatening medical conditions thus providing
love, hope, strength and joy.
While we have come far, we continue to strive for improvement as we cannot
achieve this ultimate goal without continued enhancement of fundraising, our
partnership with our valuable supporters and the further expansion of our volunteer and donor base.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank of all our volunteers, team members, donors and supporters without whom we could not achieve our common
goal of granting wishes to eligible children. I recognize and appreciate the power
of teamwork particularly among those who have a shared passion for a wonderful mission such as ours. Let’s continue to strive in the coming year to serve the
wonderful children and families of Mississippi that God has blessed us with an occasion to serve.

This year Mississippi received Make-A-Wish® America’s
most prestigious award. We were honored to be recognized for financial stability and organizational strength
both of which enhanced our ability to meet our mission.
The faithfulness of our donors, the dedication of our board
and the hard work and commitment of our staff made this
honor possible.
The award might have been called the “Mississippi has
the most generous and kind-hearted people in America Award”, or that
is how I see it, for without you - our donors - there would have been no
award. More importantly this year 113 children experienced the power
of a wish because of you.
To be a part of Make-A-Wish® Mississippi, with the stated and simple
mission of bringing Hope, Strength and Joy to children with life threatening illness, is my greatest blessing. To reach out to children who might
otherwise miss the most magical part of their lives, childhood, is an honor.
What a joy to grant these strong, inspiring children their most heartfelt
wish!! I am so grateful to you our donors, staff and board. May the lights
of the season shine on you and bless you.

The power of a wish
A boy and his dog:
De’Marcus’s wish comes true
They say a dog is a man’s best
friend, and De’Marcus’s smile
tells us that he has just found his
new best friend in Webbie, his
miniature Dashchund.
The plan was in place, tables set up inside the dealership, puppy hidden, and camera posed. De’Marcus walks in,
not knowing exactly what the trip to Barksdale Cadillac is
about. A lady puts her hand on his shoulder and says a few
short sentences before telling him the real reason he is here.
“Today, we have something very special planned for you.
Today, is the day your wish comes true.” There is clapping
that drowns out the sniffles among the crowd as a man comes
around the corner carrying De’Marcus’s brand new miniature
dachshund. Balancing himself on his crutches, he takes his
new puppy into his arms for the first time and smiles.
Sitting in the center of the large dealership,
De’Marcus has friends, family, members of the Make-AWish team and employees of the dealership come up to him as he plays with
his puppy, unconcerned with the rest of the room. To De’Marcus and anyone
looking in, the most important thing there was just a boy and his dog. He
didn’t think long for a name. In fact, he’d planned it long before. Webbie- after his favorite nurse. She was there too, to watch all of the excitement surrounding her brave patient.
For De’Marcus, his wish doesn’t end today. His wish is just the beginning. It’s the start of dozens of things new and all his own. It’s a partner to
walk with, someone to curl up with when he doesn’t feel so good, someone to
play with, and someone to call a friend.

Wish Kids®
Our Kids for Wish Kids program gives students the
opportunity to sponsor
wishes of children with lifethreatening medical conditions, all while having
fun! Participating in Kids
for Wish Kids is beneficial
not only for the wish children, but for the students
as well. It is a fantastic opportunity for schools to
become involved in their
communities and have
their students make a
positive change around

The annual Wishmaker’s Ball is Make-A-Wish Mississippi’s largest fundraiser! The event will include
silent and live auctions that will feature items such
as a hunt at Fighting Bayou Hunting Club, dinner,
dancing and special appearances by our very
own wish children.

17 year-old Anthony Hunt, talks about
why he gives of his time to Make-A-Wish®
Hey, my name is Anthony
Hunt. I am 17 years old
and I’m from New Hebron,
MS--about an hour south of
Jackson.
I had a kidney transplant in
March 9, 2006. I also made
a wish in 2004. I wished to
go to Disney World in Orlando, Florida. It was so
great. This year the Lord
called me back to help
with the Make-A-Wish®
foundation. I wanted to
help raise money and help
grant kid’s wishes.
Make-A-Wish® impacted
my life. They
helped me
do what not
many are
able to do. Some do not
have enough money to
go to these places. The
Lord helped Make-A-Wish
to help me. I have realized
that I can make a big impact if I get back and give
to Make-A-Wish®. They
helped me so I feel like I
owe them.
There was a walk hosted by Make-A-Wish® in
Brookhaven earlier in November. I got a team to-
gether, and I ended up
walking more laps than
anyone in my group. Everyone was supposed to walk
6 laps equal to 3 miles.
My group raised $1,178 total. It doesn’t take much to
help, and before you know
it you have already helped
a lot. I have learned that
every little thing can help.
So take some time to help
these kids that have a wish.
You could be the one that
they are count on to help.
