2016 Girl Guide Biscuit Information Pack for Districts, Leaders
2016 Girl Guide Biscuit Information Pack for Districts, Leaders & Support Groups Girl Guide Biscuits are more than just a tasty snack theyve become an icon for Guiding throughout Australia. Girl Guide Biscuits are more than just a tasty snack they’ve become an icon for Guiding throughout Australia. For nearly 30 years Girl Guides, with the enthusiastic support of their families, have sold Girl Guide Biscuits to raise funds for their units and districts; to cover the costs of new equipment, camps, outings and adventures. Selling Girl Guide Biscuits helps girls have fun, develop valuable life skills, and make their communities a better place. These tasty little delights have become such an important part of our organisation, it is essential that like Guiding, they continue to evolve, to move with the times, modernise and respond to the changing tastes and expectations of our community. Following a comprehensive tender process, Girl Guides Australia has developed a partnership with a new biscuit supplier. The new supplier, Modern Baking Company (MBC), is based in Melbourne, which means that the biscuits will now be sourced from a company that is both Australian-owned and locally based. GGA leaders around Australia have been working closely with MBC in developing this partnership, which will deliver many additional benefits to GGA over the coming years. One of the major benefits to GGA is that MBC came to us with a comprehensive plan to grow sales of Girl Guides biscuits over the next several years, which will in turn help us grow as an organisation and provide greater opportunities for our members. Our two organisations are working closely together not only on developing the biscuits, but on re-designing packaging, updating marketing materials, and developing new and exciting opportunities for girls as part of the biscuit campaign. This information pack will help to answer your questions about the new Girl Guide Biscuit range. We hope you are as excited as we are about the next evolution in Girl Guide Biscuits! if you have any questions please feel free to contact your state Girl Guide office. Modern Baking Company was established in the 1950s as a specialist supplier of Italian biscuits but nowadays specialises in the production of cookies, sweet biscuits, pavlovas and vol au vents, supplying major supermarkets, hospitals, cafés and restaurants. Since 1999 MBC has produced ANZAC biscuits raising funds for the RSL’s many community programs. Decades of experience allow MBC to provide exceptional service and support to customers, both large and small, and to not for profit organisations. Like Girl Guides Australia (GGA), MBC is a values-driven organisation. Staff at all levels are encouraged to live by the core values of Integrity, Empowerment, Respect, Teamwork, Courage and Innovation. These values align closely with those of GGA, which helps create a strong partnership at all levels. The collaboration between MBC and GGA also provides GGA with access to a range of resources in biscuit marketing, which will help the campaign grow over time. A number of exciting, innovative products are planned for release over the course of the next three years, which will re-invigorate the annual biscuit drive. MBC have full understanding of the logistics required to dsitribute the biscuits to all Girl Guide units throughout Australia. With a designated team they have one distributor to undertake all Girl Guide biscuit deliveries with one point of contact and trackable orders. “Everyone at MBC is excited to be working with the team at Girl Guides Australia , and we look forward to a long partnership that will grow this iconic biscuit campaign” MBC Managing Director Greg Randle Why did we pick MBC? • Manufactured right here in Australia! • Six decades of experience in making biscuits • A quality culture of ‘aim to do it right the first time’, backed up by stringent testing of products every hour on the factory line • Support for the local community, notably for the RSL • A distribution model that will ensure exceptional delivery service • Great values alignment with GGA • Desire to work with GGA as a partner and add value to this fundraiserng event g t n h i e c u d o r t s ! t i u n c s I i B We’ve refreshed the range for 2016, keeping the lagship biscuit while adding some new, exciting variants. Where palm oil is used, it is RSPO certified, which means that it contributes to the production of sustainable palm oil. MBC uses both the segregated and mass balance supply chain methods in sourcing palm oil. For more information on the RSPO certification, visit www.rspo.org Are they suitable for people with allergies? Our Girl Guide biscuits are produced in a factory that is free from peanuts and sesame, so all of our biscuits are safe for people with these allergies. The new gluten-free biscuits are produced using processes that ensure that they are safe for coeliacs. Our vanilla biscuit still has the same great flavour you love! Our new biscuits give you more choice and cater to different tastes and dietary needs. The biscuit shape will be updated so that it is a perfect representation of the Girl Guides Australia Trefoil with the seven-pointed star. Allergens that are present in the factory include other tree nuts, milk, egg and soy, and as such these are potential cross-contact allergens that may be present in trace amounts in the biscuits. Can I use the new biscuits in my favourite Girl Guide biscuit recipes from previous years? Yes you absoloutly can! We have maintained the original biscuit recipe, so you can make all your favourite recipes. How long do the biscuits keep? Several months – so stock up now! The best before date will be printed on the pack. s Q FA We know you’ll have lots of questions about this fabulous new initative so we wanted to answer a few of the common ones here! What are the differences between the new biscuits and the previous ones? Our Traditional biscuit is the classical vanilla biscuit with an updated design so that it is a perfect representation of the GGA trefoil with the seven-pointed star. There are three fantastic NEW additions to the range this year: • Instead of a choc bottom dipped biscuit we have a choc biscuit, choc chips and a soft filled choc centre - a Triple Choc biscuit! YUM! • Replacing the choc top mini biscuits will be the fun and friendly “Bush Buddies”, which are mini chocflavored biscuits in Australian animal shapes. Bush Buddies come in lunch-box-ready snack packs, making them a convenient and yummy treat. • GLUTEN FREE biscuits! MBC are experts in the delicious shortbread-style biscuit that is gluten free. This biscuit’s rich flavour comes from the high quality, pure Australian butter, making this a biscuit everyone will enjoy. Why did we change our biscuit range? A change in suppliers gives us the opportunity to try new ranges and offer more flavours and meet more dietary requirements! In response to demand, we are thrilled to offer - for the first time in Australian Girl Guiding Biscuit history - a Gluten Free biscuit, a buttery shortbread and the introduction of the Bush Buddies provide convenient sized snack packs of mini biscuits – perfect for lunch boxes and more. To get the right choc biscuit, our wonderful Girl Guide tasters sampled a number of biscuits and the Triple Choc biscuit was loved by all. “Delicious” was the feedback so this year it is part of our new range. Our friends at MBC are looking forward to working with us in the upcoming years to create the best Girl Guide biscuit range. Who knows we may even run a competition with our girls to choose which flavours they would like to sell? Why have the prices changed? You will notice that the retail price has increased. Having held prices consistent since 2012, we have increased the prices to reflect the higher costs associated with producing biscuits so we can maintain our ability to generate revenue for our Girl Guide organisation. In comparison to other great biscuits though,we think it is competitive especially given the cause of Girl Guides that we are raising funds for! Is there still a minimum carton order? No! Two of the big advantages of our new supplier is that they will be using one distribution company for all deliveries and there are no minimum order for cartons for each delivery point eg. there could be one carton of Traditionals delivered to one address!. Previously the distribution was run through several channels (a logistics company and state contractors) which caused many headaches and the minimum order was 20 cartons so these are two huge pluses for Girl Guides.
