Family History
Many who know her, call her Ms. “Conerly”;
her dear friends affectionately call her Ms.
Hattie. She was the 5th child born in 1922
to Mr. & Mrs. Willie Oscar Magee. Born
Hattie Magee she was raised on a small farm
near Clifton, Louisiana in Washington Parish.
In 1934, at the age of 12, Hattie went to a
meeting one night and her life was changed
forever; she met a man named Jesus.
Because of this, Hattie was instrumental in
leading her entire family to Christ, and they

A GLIMPSE OF OUR PAST
In a small town called Clifton, in Northern Louisiana, our beloved fore-father, by the name of Julius Conerly was born to the parents of Tom and Liza
Manning Conerly. His life on the dairy farm required long hours of work. One day he met a young woman by the name of Mary James; Mary was the
daughter of Monroe and Dank James. After a short period of courtship, Julius asked for her hand in marriage and she agreed.
Julius was also known by everyone as “Hop”. He obtained the name from an accident that occurred while working on the railroad track.
One day while he was working on a pup-wood truck, one of the logs rolled off and broke his leg, leaving him with a permanent hop. …and the rest
is history. Mary, his wife of many years was nicknamed “Modie” by her family and friends. She was a woman of strength and character and worked
alongside of her husband while living on the farm. Farm life wasn’t easy, and when the work slowed down on the dairy farm; and things did not
improve, they packed up and moved to the Delta in Mississippi to pick cotton; where money was good for bundles of cotton. They remained in that
area of Mississippi and worked the fields to provide for the family. Continue, pg. 1

MAUDINE CONERLY
A foundation is the basis on which a thing
stands, is founded, or is supported, and Maudine Conerly embodies every aspect of that
» Continue, PG. 3
Julius and Mary were blessed with seven
(7) children six (6) sons and one daughter.
Willie J, a “pianist” married (Allie) (2) two
children were born. - Ruby Conerly. a
“nurse” married (Estes) Burton (3) three
children were born, - Huey a “preacher/
pastor [Blazefield COGIC] married
(Rosalie Plese ) (11) eleven children
were born. Jim called to “preach/pastor”
married (Luebertha Williams) (10) ten
children were born. RT a “ tap dancer”
married (Shirley) no children were
born. Ivey aka IV a “longshoreman and
fisherman” married (Hattie Magee) (11)
children were born. and Elvester aka LV
a “guitarist” married (Maudine Johnson)
(12) twelve children were born. .” The
entire family stood firm in spiritual family
values with their families and raised their
children in the fear of God teaching them
the value of hard work.
Our family matriarch - Grandma Modie
was a powerful woman in the Lord and
she made it known to every one who she
came across “ It’s Holiness or Hell, there’s
no in between.” She’s was known for her
long skirt sweeping the floor - she was
tall in statue and was a church mother.
She entered the church doors singing “Is
everybody happy, is everybody glad?”,
Don’t want to see you looking weary;
don’t want to see you looking sad.
Shout Hallelujah, Jesus is at your door.
Someday I’ll meet you on the other shore
One thing, is certain that we can all learn
from them is that; they were men and
women with backbone that endured
hardness as good soldiers, and stood the
test of times in those days. They prevailed
with endurance and longevity in their
committed in marriage as husbands
and wives…They worked from sun up
to sun down to provide for large families
whether large or small.
As we reflect on our fore-parents, they
were not blessed with the modern
conveniences we enjoy today. They
walked long miles, with the sweltering
heat of the sun beating down upon
them. They farmed and worked
hard picking cotton from sun-up
til sundown. Bottled water that we
enjoy wasn’t an option but they had
to dig wells in order to enjoy that
cool drank of water. Cell phones,
facebook, twitter, ipads and such
were not even a fore-thought, yet
they communicated often with their
family and friends. They walked miles
to go to church and to fellowship
with the saints, because love was
the order of their day. If they could
look down the telescope scope of
time, what would they see? Would
they still see the work of God’s hand
on our lives today? Would they feel
that same LOVE and commitment to
God and to one another?
HERE IS SOMETHING TO PONDER: If

times that we have shared on this life’s journey.

definition. As a young girl, in Jayess, MS she
supported her younger siblings to aid her
mother. As she grew into a young woman,
MAUDINE JOHNSON cont’d she received
much of her foundational teaching, by garnering wisdom from the mothers of the church,
most notably her Mother in Law, Mary Conerly.
Maudine was always a spitfire in her service for
the Lord and dedicated herself to doing whatever her “hands found to do.” Maudine stood
on the foundation of her marriage vows to her
husband, LV Conerly Sr. God chose L.V. to be
the Root and Maudine to be the Foundation.
God blessed Maudine be pregnant with a male
child, but due to the loss of her pregnancy
there was sorrow and weeping in the house.
The scripture says, “Weeping May endureth
for a night but Joy cometh in the morning.”
And that Joy came in the form of a little girl
Donna Pearl. Soon after God brought Love in
the form of Lillie Dean, Peace in the form of
Brenda Fay. 11 months later God wanted to
show his Mercy and Ruby Nell was born. God
heard the prayer of Maudine for a blessing
and he assured her that for the rest of her life
she would have unmerited favor and he gave
her Grace in the form of Evelyn. The first five
elements, Joy, Love, Peace, Mercy and Grace
would be the most important materials to
make a home. In any home the devil loves to
frolic and bring dissention among the body
and God placed a touch of Gentleness in the
Conerly Home in the form of their first born
son Elvester “June Bug”, and Meekness in the
form of Marie. God saw the Faith of Maudine
in the church and gave her Magdalene “Mag”.
With the elements of Joy, Love, Peace, Mercy,
and Grace; the materials of Gentleness, Meekness and Faith, God knew it was time for the
Anointing to cover the house and he sent
Fay. But God knew that without Patience and
Goodness the Anointing would not grow so
he Patience in the form of Helen and Johnny.
Now that God had built the Conerly House He
had to insulate the walls to ensure that no division would separate the family again and he
sent his chosen Son LaRide and called him the
Revelation. The L.V. Conerly house was now
complete with all the elements and materials that would make this house a home. And
God blessed each element and material with
children to possess the land and bring honor
to the Conerly Family. As she diligently raised
her children to participate in Sunday School,
Church, and Singing in the Choir, Missionary
Maudine Conerly excepted the call to use her
voice as God’s mouth piece to the community and
the world. She received her Evangelist License
under the late Supervisor McGregor Jones. She
and her husband traveled extensively with their
pastor, Supt. Monroe Magee as he conducted
revivals; she as his soloist/praise song leader and
he and the musician. They were known as the
DynoDuo for having church. She served as the
church secretary, Sunday school teacher, and
numerous other positions. One of her passions
was serving as President of the Young Women
Christian Counsel (YWCC) in the local and district
for over 15 years encouraging young women to
be Godly women and be a Proverbs 31 woman.
With her commitment to God and faithfulness to
His work, she was appointed District Missionary
for District #12 and served in this capacity for
over 20 years. As she aged and was unable to
travel and fulfill the duties she elected to serve
as emeritus. In her 85th year of life she is still as
solid as she was when she confessed Jesus as her
lord and savior. We all stand on the foundation of
Maudine Conerly; because she is the reason many
of us are standing strong today. Her days are now
spent encouraging her children, grandchildren,
great and great-great grandchildren in trusting
and believing in God. She is most famous for one
of many of her favorite sayings,
“If you do right, right will follow you.”
She is truly one of Matriarchs of The Conerly
Family.
ESSIE MAE HARVEY
became members of the Church of God in
Christ. Little did she know that one day she
would become
HATTIE CONERLY cont’d
a great witness for the Lord as we will
share later on.
As Hattie grew more beautiful and
charming, the attention of a young
handsome man became all hers. I.V.
Conerly, (Ivey) was his name and
Hattie was his aim. But there were
some other eyes set on Ivey as well,
but according to my mom, she said
to him, “Whose it gonna be? Decide
today! It’s She or me.” And of course
the rest is History. After a brief
courtship she was wooed and there
was no turning back. She married
the only man she’s ever known, and
to the union 11 children were born; 4
boys and 7 girls. Hattie was married
to the late Ivey Conerly (1918-1976),
for 35 years. Indeed, she was a wife
extraordinaire. She worked on in
the home raising their 11 children
and often times worked as an
experienced pressor for B. Bennett’s
and Rubenstein Brothers on the world
famous Canal St. Mrs. Conerly was
known everywhere for her Christian
life. She would ride the city bus to
and from work sharing about her Lord.
Her famous stores were Krauss and
Woolworth’s where she frequently
met her friends to eat lunch. The pride
and joy of Hattie’s life, is her children.
She boast in the Lord for all of them
remaining our saved and are serving
the Lord and working diligently in
the body of Christ. Hattie is pictured
seated below with her 7 remaining
children. Hattie is the proud
grandmother of 30 grandchildren and
great-grandmother to 20 greats.

E
ssie Mae Harvey is the oldest living grandchild of Julius and
Mary Conerly. She was born January 21, 1929 in Washington Parish,
Louisiana to Ester and Ruby Dean Burton. She is the eldest of their
3 children, brother; the late John Burton and sister; the late Eloise
(Honey) Burton. Essie married Ephfon Harvey, Sr. in Holy Matrimony
in 1942. They had twelve children, 7 boys and 5 girls, whom are still
living. She has 31 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 1 great,
great grandchild
Mother Harvey was a dedicated member of Leer Hill Church Of God In
Christ in Clifton, Louisiana. She later transitioned to McGee’s Temple
in Franklinton, Louisiana under the leadership of the late Elder
Monroe McGee; now serving under Pastor Cecealine Tate. She has
always been a diligent worker within the church. She inherited the role
of church mother from her mother Ruby Burton, whom inherited it from
her mother Mary (Mama Mowdie) Conerly.
Essie loved spending time in her younger years with Mama Mowdie and
her mother. She recalls hearing the angels singing the very moment
her grandmother went on to be with the Lord. She enjoyed watching
her children and grandchildren grow into the people they are today.
Essie now resides in Franklinton, in her later years being cared for by her
children. You can still hear her hum praises unto the Lord and see her
face light up when you talk about His goodness to her because He’s still
(as favorite song says) “REAL, REAL, REAL!” to her!

Doretha Conerly Maison
better known as “Doe” was the daughter
of Jim and LueBertha William Conerly. She
was the wife of West Maison and they had
one child Deion “Kietha” Masion Gray. She
was the proud grandmother of Floyd III,
Deirdre, Christy and Kendra Gray and greatgrandmother of Khole Milan Thomas.
Doe was a prayer warrior, caretaker, lover
of the word, entrepreneur and psalmist.
Doretha and Shirley Ann Towner restarted the
family reunion some years ago and we are so
grateful to her. Doe was an excellent speller,
and reader and was one who loved to work
crossword puzzles. Whenever you went over
to her house she would pull out the scrabble
game and challenge you to play. At times
when one would try to make up a word while
playing scrabble she would catch it ever time
with “ No No”. Doretha was a woman of God.
She was loved by so many and we all miss her
dearly. She will forever have a special place in
our hearts.

HIS STORY OF DELIVERANCE
My name is Jim (Rickey) Conerly Jr. from New Orleans, Louisiana I am the youngest child of
Jim and Lubertha Conerly. I was on drugs for over 15 yrs I came to Dallas, Texas in the year of
1992, still searching for something I couldn’t find. As a drug addict my life continued to go down
hill and my life wouldn’t change. I ended up going to prison and in that place I found myself
looking up at the ceiling and there was a sign up on the ceiling saying “now it’s time to look
up” the writing was talking to me but I knew the Lord from a an early age and I was yet running
from the Lord. I begin attending bible study while in prison which lead me to rededicate my
life to God. As the went on I was released on parole to a rehabilitation center that we called
discipleship center called Care Center Ministries.I have dedicated my life ministry and serving
God by helping people that are going through some of the things I can out of. I know what i
means to truly be delivered and set free. I would recommend Jesus to anyone who is willing
to listen to my story. God is such an awesome God if he can heal me from a life of sin I know
he can deliver anyone. I am also very proud to be a Minister of the Gospel teaching the good
news of Christ. I am on the prayer line every Thursday night for an hour 712-432-0080 code GRADUATE FROM TDC
is givin via text message. If anyone would like more information please feel free to come and

men and women who desire to free themselves from the chains of Homosexuality. His poem, “I’m Free,” has taken a new
meaning for some and opened the eyes
of others. In this poem, he invites you into
his life, guides you through his timeline of
struggle, and leads you to the victorious
ending when he proclaims his reedom
from homosexuality. His Parents call him
Yancey, his siblings call him brother, his
peers call him Counselor, but you can just

“No one is ever born into Life alone. Everyone has shared the bond of family, at least at birth, and for many people
it is a bond that will follow them throughout life. For many people it is the most important bond of all.” Author

Welcome to The Conerly Family Reunion . We have had AWESOME! reunions in the past and it gives us great
pleasure to welcome you back home to New Orleans once again. We are excited to bring family back home to
where many of you can identify with “Louisiana” where it all began. I love my family and that means all of you. So
often times, we take it for granted and miss out on what’s truly important in our lives. LOVE! While many believe
they’ve been dealt a bad hand in life, I believe it’s not the hand you’re dealt, but how you play your hand. So as
descendent of the great heritage of Julius and Mary Conerly set before us, we play to WIN! So as we go forth in
building a legacy for our children and their children and so on, let’s embrace love and take the time in each day
to develop spiritually, physically, emotionally and mentally, There’s no greater love than the love of God and you
truly don’t experience it without him. Let’s decrease, so God can increase. The opportunity to plan and execute
this reunion was an enlightening experiences both negative and the positive. I am grateful to have been chosen
to serve you. To Madora Causey and Essie Mae Harvey I’m sure are truly grateful as well. Special Thanks to:
Deion, Judith, Sheryl, Sonya, Kenneth, Keisha, Philessia, Kendria, Maythel, Blake, Daisy, Deirdre, Floyd, and the
children that played their part in making this reunion possible. We missed some of our family who unfortunately
could not make it here be with us. Our love for them will always be shown as we take the time to celebrate family
this weekend. We also missed many of our family that have gone on before since the last reunion including yester
years; however we must continue on our journey that we may see them again. They will always be in our hearts
and our minds forever.
REMEMBER, “The call of death is a call of love. Death can be sweet if we answer it in the affirmative, if we accept it
as one of the great eternal forms of life and transformation.” God’s will must be done.
Now that the family has past the torch to California we look forward to greater and better things for the “Conerly
Family Reunion”.
Lets us continue to pray and love one another. This is a GREAT FAMILY.
Thank you all for supporting this year, Love You All.
