How to Register
Five easy ways to register for fee-based, not-for-credit
classes, workshops, and excursions (pages 8–43)

Remember to mark your calendar with class date, time and location. If you have included your email
address on your registration form, you will receive an email confirmation of your enrollment.
Refund & Transfer Policy
Check refunds may take 4–6 weeks to process:
Class/Workshop Refund Policy: Refunds will be made up to three days prior to class start date.
No refunds will be given once a class has started. A $10 cancellation fee for regular classes and
a $25 cancellation fee for work skills certificate programs will be retained for each refund. A full
refund will be given if a class is cancelled due to low enrollment. Unused attendance is not transferable to another class session.
Excursion Refund Policy: Refunds will be granted up to one week before the excursion only if
the excursion is full and someone on the waiting list is available to take your place. There will
be a $25 cancellation fee if a replacement can be found.
Class/Workshop Transfer Policy: Transfers will be approved up to three days prior to the
class start date. A $10 transfer fee will be retained for each class/workshop. Students must
receive a verbal approval from Community Education before transfer is complete.

Parking Information
Parking permits are required at Oceanside, San Elijo and Community Learning Center (CLC)
campuses of MiraCosta College at all times. Students may park in any lot marked Student or
spaces marked Student at all campuses. Please avoid any spaces or lots marked Staff. Parking
permits may be purchased from parking permit vending machines as follows:
• Oceanside Campus: There are three parking permit vending machines located on the Oceanside Campus in Parking Lots 1A, 3C and 4C. In Parking Lot 4C, students may use debit and credit cards, one dollar bills and change (no pennies). In Parking Lots 3C and 1A, students may use one dollar bills and change (no pennies).
•
San Elijo Campus: There is one parking permit vending machine located next to the College Police kiosk in the front of the campus. This machine takes one dollar bills and change (no pennies).
•
Technology Career Institute: Parking permit is not required. Parking is free.
•
Community Learning Center: There is one parking permit vending machine located in front of Building A. This machine takes one dollar bills and change (no pennies).

ARTS—CRAFTS & SEWING
Mosaic Murals & More!
ARTS—CRAFTS & SEWING
In this fun, relaxed class we will explore
mosaic design and transfer methods and
techniques intended for mosaic murals,
back splashes, decorative walls, etc.
Students will create their own flat surface
mosaic on a table, tray, or other flat
surface that can be transported to class.
All levels welcome, whether you consider
yourself an artist or not. More advanced
students may choose to do their own
project with individual guidance from the
instructor and class participation.
Supplies: A $40 material fee will be collected
in class to cover mosaic materials, glue, and
supplemental materials. All supplies will be provided
for a project to begin work the first class. Student
will provide the base for the main project of their
choosing.

Clothing Alteration, Restyling
& Repairs
Learn the basics of garment fitting, style,
restyle and repairs. Bring in garments to
try on and be fitted by instructor. Receive
step by step demonstration on how to
fit, mark, sew, press and finish off most
basic alterations, restyle and repairs.
In addition, learn how to choose well
in future purchases based on the style
and fit that best suit your body type. The
instructor will do demonstrations from
9 a.m.–12 p.m., followed by a short lunch
break, then hands-on lab until 2 p.m.
Supplies: MiraCosta College does not provide
sewing machines. Bring a sack lunch. A materials
list will be sent prior to the start of class.

Stained Glass for Beginners
Create your own beautiful stained-glass
art pieces and windows! Learn the art
of stained glass from a master cutter,
right in his stained-glass studio! In this
comprehensive workshop, you will learn
the basics of design and assembly, as
well as the use of the tools needed to
develop beautiful stained-glass artwork.
By the end of the workshop, you will have
created one to three projects suitable
for display or sale (depending on your
speed and ability).
Supplies: A $40 per project material fee for glass,
solder, lead and copper will be collected in class.
On-site sales of tools available. Bring snacks.

Oil Painting
Unlock painterly self expression. This
class is for new or experienced students
who have good drawing skills. The class
emphasis changes each semester so
there is continual learning of new skills.
The goal is to better understand value,
shape, color and how to use them to
create a harmonious painting. During
class, there is a mix of painting and
working independently. By the end of
this course, you will have some finished
paintings to proudly display in your
home! You will build the foundation you
need to create great works of art.

In this lesson set, we will focus on
representing the elemental parts of
landscape painting: sky, land, water,
mood, atmosphere, light and purposeful
composition. Learn a logical procedure
to artfully depict representational
subjects in watercolor. Developing
control of shape, color, value and
texture in watercolor media is what this
course is all about. Join like-minded
adults and a dedicated instructor as we
explore the process of creative picture
making through lessons designed to
develop proficiency with watercolor.
Match colors you see (or want to see),
master three textures, explore four
methods of paint to paper, attend to
three attributes of effective shapes,
then apply these design, drawing and
technical tips to your own creative
watercolor interpretations of landscape
subjects from photos and imagination.
With specific instruction, enthusiastic
intent plus time on task, you can expect
significant progress.

These lessons will feature a fun mix of
drawing from imagination, photos and
observation. We’ll explore a logical
approach to artfully depict most
landscape subjects, such as trees and
land, water and skies with the thoughtful
use of descriptive, interesting shapes and
the effective use of values and textures.
This is an ideal companion course to
future study in painting classes with Drew
Bandish and other instructors. Common
drawing supplies include: paper, pencils,
erasers, color pencils.

This introductory digital SLR photography series can
be taken as individual courses for $39, or together for

The photography topics are interrelated and affect one
another, so we recommend you take all three (Getting
Started with dSLR, Aperture & Shutter Speed, and
Perfect Photographs Made Easy) to get a complete
understanding of the camera and picture taking.

In this workshop, you will learn how to set
up your camera to optimize the quality
of your photographs right off the bat.
We will cover the all-important topics
of white balance and ISO to be able to
shoot under difficult conditions. And of

take pictures right away!

We will also take a look at some of the
pictures you took after your first session
for constructive commentary. After this
class, you’ll be able to practice depth of
field and capture motion and time.

Smart Way—In One Day!
Learn new 2015 laws!
Establish yourself as a notary public,
earn additional income and provide a
service to your community. Successful
notaries provide a valuable service to
their company, friends, and private
clients. Our intensive six-hour seminar is
designed to equip you with everything
you need to know to become a safe and
effective notary public. You will find out
about new legislation as well as how to
pass the new test (must be taken every
four years), identify document signers,
keep a journal, fill out certificates and
avoid lawsuits. Must be at least 18 years
old and have a clean record.

the notary public exam (see box for

register you for the exam from 3:45
to 4:45 p.m. The exam will be from
4:45 to 5:45 p.m. If you are taking the
exam, you will need the following: $40
check made payable to “Secretary
of State,” current CA driver’s license
with photo or state-issued ID card, a
2" x 2" color photo of yourself, and two
#2 pencils. If you took your notary
class online, you MUST have your
certificate of completion with you.
Fingerprints are required after you
pass the exam.

Renewing Notaries
Three-hour, state-required seminar
Take a three-hour approved notary
refresher course. We will review all laws
and regulations you are required to know
to continue as a notary. You must take
the exam and be fingerprinted again.
Your commission must be current to be
eligible for a renewing class. Cooperative
Personnel Services (CPS) will register you
for the exam from 4:15 p.m. to 5 p.m. A
six-hour approved course must be taken
first.

Loan-Signing Agent
California's real estate industry is in need
of notaries and others who would like to
become loan document specialists. No
need to be a commissioned notary or
have the results of your exam in order
to take this course. You must, however,
have taken a notary class in order to
enroll in this workshop. Find out how to
contact the most profitable businesses
and who your primary contact should
be; get signed up with successful
signing services/agencies and build
your own business. We take you through
a practice loan package where you’ll
learn how to properly notarize loan
packages. Additionally, you will learn
how to negotiate your fee and advertise
yourself in your market, get called back
and brand yourself as a professional. No

This course is a comprehensive program designed for individuals who wish
to become armed protection officers. This intensive program is 127 hours of
classroom and field instruction. Students will receive all course work for a
California guard card, exposed weapon permit, and a baton permit. In addition,
certain students will qualify for a concealed weapon permit from the states
of Florida and Utah (you will not be able to carry a concealed weapon in
California). Students also will receive four days of specialized training for those
who want anti-terrorism/force protection training.

the high-threat low-profile area of operations.
Protecting a journalist in Beirut, a business executive in Mexico, or a humanitarian
visiting a dangerous region in Africa, are all examples of high-threat low-profile
environments you may find yourself assigned to. As an American citizen working
a private protective detail on foreign soil, you may be working alone or in a
very small team, generally will not be allowed to carry firearms, and will have to
arrange all of your own local resources. These limitations highlight the need for a
high level of training in specific skill sets.

Whether you are working in the U.S. or abroad, well-rounded medical training
can be the difference between life and death. Many do not have the time to
attend lengthy EMT or paramedic courses. This intensive six-day course gives
students the most important skills that military medics, EMT, paramedics and
remote medical practitioners use to provide emergency care in a variety of
environments. This course focuses on serious wounds caused by gunshots,
blasts, vehicle accidents, medical emergencies, and other life-threatening
injuries that may be encountered in a military, law enforcement or high-risk
security environment. Advanced labs are available for students who already
have TCCC Provider certification and CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers
certification. No prior medical training is required.

equipment they can expect to find in the workplace. Our program is designed

Training Program
Gone are the days of the grease-covered, conventional manufacturing machinist.
Today’s machinist must be highly trained with very specific education and skills,
working in high-tech manufacturing plants that are both clean and innovative.
CNC machines, just-in-time production methods, lean manufacturing techniques,
along with great housekeeping and state-of-the-art facilities give a more
accurate picture of American manufacturing today. The need for properly trained
machinists to fill hundreds of positions in North San Diego County has reached
critical mass.
To meet this need, we are proud to offer this program to individuals seeking a fastpaced, high-level training. Our program will prepare students for employment in
machine shops and manufacturing facilities. Students who attend will experience
an accelerated program that quickly prepares them to meet trade skill sets such
as shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, precision measuring, machining
procedures, tooling, and a basic understanding of both manual and CNC
machining. Salaries for machinist technician apprentices range from $13–$16/
hour to start; however, many companies are hiring at $15–$18/hour with proper
training and certifications provided by programs such as ours.

NABCEP Certificate of Knowledge Test Preparation
This course helps students pass the North American Board of Certified Energy
Practitioners (NABCEP) Entry Level Solar Installer Exam. NABCEP is a nationally
recognized certifying agency for solar installers. The Entry Level Certificate can
be used to get a job with a local solar installation company, as it demonstrates
that s/he has achieved a basic knowledge of the fundamental principles of
the application, design, installation and operation of solar photovoltaic (PV)
and solar heating systems. While the focus of this program is on the academic
knowledge needed to pass the exam, more than half of the hours will be used for
practical hands-on experience. The class will jointly build a working solar system
using common PV components and electrical parts and tools. The class will
integrate theory, laws and regulations with practical applications. Topics include
system sizing and design exercises, basic electronics, basic electrical wiring,
safety, and a discussion about the viability of solar and other alternative energy

Personal Care Assistants (PCAs), also known as caregivers, give assistance to
primarily elderly clients who are ill, injured, mentally or physically disabled, or

They work in the home, or in assisted/independent living facilities. PCAs often
help their clients with activities of daily living: ambulating, feeding, bathing,
grooming, toileting, as well as shopping and light housekeeping. In addition,
PCAs may provide or arrange transportation, prepare and serve meals,
and provide companionship for their clients. This course will provide quality
instruction to ensure the student knows their basic caregiving skills, required
responsibilities, expectations and professional/legal boundaries. The student
will be introduced to other potential careers in the health care field. Currently,
California does not have any state requirements for this position. Students

Phlebotomy Technicians dedicated to the art of blood withdrawal.

Training Course
Motorcycles provided
This training is designed primarily for beginning and inexperienced riders. This
class is required by the DMV for any rider under the age of 21 seeking his or her
first California motorcycle License. DMV certificates will be issued for successful
completion of this course. Our motorcyclist training course includes 5 hours of
classroom and 10 hours of on-cycle instruction.
• Classroom portion is from 6–9 pm.
• Riding portion is on Saturday and Sunday from 7 am–noon.
• For military members, these courses meet the level 1, 2 and 3 requirements
of the military
• Riders must have pants, a long sleeve shirt, and footwear that covers
the ankles.
• Taking this course may allow you to have the riding portion of the DMV test
waived.
• Show your completion card to your insurance agent for a possible
discount on your motorcycle insurance.
• You must be at least 15 1/2 years old. If you are under 18 years of age, you
must have parental permission and they must sign the waiver.
• We provide the motorcycles. We also can loan a helmet and gloves if
necessary.

On this true Los Angeles adventure,
we’ll explore several of the city’s much
loved yet hidden gems. First, a twohour docent-guided walking tour of the
Holyland Exhibition, founded in 1924 by
a man with a love affair for the Holyland
and the preservation of its ancient
past. You’ll be amazed at the wealth
of artifacts on display, some nearly
2,000 years old. Costumed guides will
showcase the exhibits and tell the story
of the items as they relate to the Bible
and ancient traditions and customs.
Afterward, enjoy an included lunch with
choice of sandwich at famous Canter’s
Deli which has offered an authentic
Jewish deli-style experience since 1931

HOW TO ENROLL IN TUITION-FREE ADULT CLASSES
Enrollment for Tuition-Free Noncredit Courses for Adults begins May 6, 2015. Students
are enrolled on a first-come, first-served basis. Students may use the SURF online enrollment
system. Parking fee may be paid on SURF using Visa, MasterCard or Discover Card.
How to Apply & Enroll in Classes
Applying for Admission
If you are a new student or if you are a returning student who did not attend classes in
Spring 2015 you must first submit a Noncredit Application for Admission. You may submit
the application two ways:
1 Online at miracosta.edu/noncredit. Select the link for Tuition-Free Noncredit Courses
for Adults.
PLEASE NOTE: Online applications require several days to process. You should submit
your online application at least 3–4 business days before the date you want to enroll.
After the application is processed, you will be assigned an 8-digit Student ID number that you
will use the entire time you are a student at MiraCosta College. You will retrieve your Student
ID number the first time you log in to SURF following the directions below.
2 Or complete the Noncredit Application for Admission found on page 48 which also
allows you to select your classes, and mail or bring the completed application to:

Enrolling in Classes on SURF
Who can use SURF?
• Students who were enrolled at MiraCosta College in Spring 2015 may enroll using SURF
on or after May 6, 2015.
• New students or returning MiraCosta College students who were not enrolled in
Spring 2015 but have submitted the Noncredit Application for Admission and have waited
3–4 business days for the application to be processed.
• The last day to add classes is July 6, 2015 (excluding Adult High School, Cisco,
and English as a Second Language classes).
Who cannot use SURF?
• Students who have a delinquent account or a hold on their account.
• Students who choose to pay fees with cash or check (must use credit card on SURF).
• Students enrolling in Adult Basic Education, Adult High School, or English as a Second
Language, and Special Education classes. (See the specific section of this bulletin for
enrollment information.)
Before you use SURF:
If you have a delinquent account with MiraCosta College you must resolve it either online
or at the Student Accounts Office, located in Building 3200 on the Oceanside Campus, the
Administration Building at the San Elijo Campus, or at the Community Learning Center
in Oceanside.
If you have a hold on your account with MiraCosta College you must resolve it before
enrolling. To find out if you have a hold, log in to SURF with your SURF ID and password.
Click on the Self Service link, and Campus Personal Information link. Then click on the
Holds link. If you have a hold, you must contact the office(s) that placed the hold(s) on your
account to proceed with enrollment.
Where to use SURF:
You may use SURF on any computer with Internet access including computers in MiraCosta
College labs. SURF stations are also available at the Community Learning Center, and
the Admissions and Records offices at the Oceanside and San Elijo campuses.

The Adult High School is designed for students 18 years of age or older who wish to complete the
requirements for a high school diploma or prepare to take the GED. Those under 18 who can benefit
from instruction are also allowed to enroll. Any student enrolled in a day high school (regular or
continuation) must meet the following criteria in order to take classes in MiraCosta's Adult High
School. He/she must be a credit or CAHSEE deficient student, 17 years old or older, who has attended
at least five semesters of high school. Day high school students must also present a Concurrent
Enrollment Permit signed by their day high school principal, counselor, and parent. The forms are
available at high school counseling offices, the Community Learning Center (CLC), MiraCosta’s
Admissions Offices, and online at miracosta.edu/ahsdp.
In order to place students in courses that best meet their needs, individual skills will be assessed.
English, reading, and math courses are also appropriate for persons who do not need a high school
diploma but wish to increase their skills in preparation for college classes, for employment or
advancement in the workplace, or for personal growth.
Classes are held at MiraCosta College Community Learning Center (CLC), located at 1831 Mission

attending a registration session. The Application Confirmation Page should be printed and presented
at the time of registration. The reading skills assessment will be administered to all new students as
part of the registration process. Adaptive testing will be available for English as a Second Language

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE PROGRAM
The goal of this program is to aid speakers of other languages gain fluency in English. Students learn English
which helps them function effectively in family, community, work and academic settings. Conversation is
emphasized at the beginning levels, but reading, writing and the structure of the language are introduced
as students gain proficiency. Bilingual instructional aides are available at all sites.

Students interested in morning, afternoon, or evening ESL classes may register on the following dates
and times listed below at the Community Learning Center, 1831 Mission Avenue, Oceanside, CA 92058.
There is limited space available in noncredit ESL classes. You may want to arrive well before the registration time to get in line. Students are registered on a first-come, first-served basis.

In order to ensure the overall quality and integrity of the program, College for Kids has a
limited number of enrollment spaces and all registrations are processed in order of receipt.
Extended Child Care:
We are offering the following extended child care options for students:
7:30–9 a.m.: $15 per week
4–5:30 p.m.: $15 per week
7:30–9 a.m. & 4–5:30 p.m.: $25 per week

$10 transfer fee is applied for any class transfer at least 7 days prior to camp session

LEGO® Architecture

Become an inspired architect of the future
using LEGO® Architecture sets and “Green
Energy” kits. Build homes and offices and
learn how to change it to “go green” using
solar or wind power. Using LEGO® bricks,
students will have the chance to build several
different landmark buildings while discovering
structural concepts, including stability within
bridges and towers, forces on structures,
and strength of materials. Students will also
learn about designing and building structures
from various materials, such as corrugated
plastic sheets, studded string, and wooden
sticks. Explore the most current trends in

12–14 years YOUTH ACADEMY
In this fun-filled class you will have handson learning and explore science concepts
that connect to your everyday life. You will
learn to calculate density, demonstrate the
process of precipitation, initiate chemical

and create “goofy” substances by using typical
household goods and food items such as eggs,
marshmallows, trash bags, straws, baking soda,
raisins, breakfast cereals, food dyes, salt and so
much more!! You will have fun, get messy and
explore using the scientific method to logically

the outrageous alternative to a really boring
health class, introducing the science behind
the body’s most disgusting features, from burps
and boogers to scabs and earwax. Students will
perform many scientific experiments to explore
the vast complexities of the human body and
its systems. “Snot” for the weak of heart or
stomach!
To get the most out of your creativity and
imagination, you need to learn the techniques
and tricks that will make your drawings
and paintings even more fantastic! Explore
composition, color and perspective using
different media, then let your creativity take
over! We will do 3D-perspective drawing,
abstract painting and cartooning. Learn the
techniques and express yourself!

Combine your two favorite activities: LEGOs®
and video games! Students will create their
own LEGO® universe, characters, and
adventures in an interactive 2-D video game.

through the password-protected Black Rocket

Are you the next Cake Boss? Learn how to
decorate like the pros in MiraCosta College’s
celebrated Cake Decorating Program designed

all—taste your amazing works of art! In one
short week, you will get a crash course in all
you need to know to start creating beautiful
cakes! Students will need to bring unfrosted
cakes to class throughout the week.

with “Scratch”

Design and modify your own exciting arcadestyle video games that will impress your
family and friends! You’ll learn how to control
characters, objects and outcomes in your game,

how to design your own version of popular
video games. The Scratch program is a free
online download, so students can play and

Minecraft Designers

If you love the game Minecraft, but always
wanted to design characters and buildings
for your game, this class is for you! Learn the
basics of creating 3D modeling using a new
industry grade software to design your very
own characters and import them into your
favorite Minecraft games. Creativity, problem
solving and collaboration in teams are just a
few STEM skills that you will be applying.
Students must have Minecraft at home to
import characters and a parent email address is
required to create student accounts. Designer
curriculum is compatible with any desktop (and
laptop) version of Minecraft software for PC or
Mac computer. It is not compatible with Xbox

Survivor Camp—Wilderness
& Safety Awareness 10–13 years
Who will survive? YOU will after taking
survivor camp! Learn how to work with knots
and ropes, build natural shelters, purify water,
create fire, find food in the wild, and master
a variety of wilderness skills. Wilderness
skills help people survive in the outdoors and
weather in the aftermath of natural disasters.
You’ll learn how to reduce your risk of getting
lost and how to react effectively with lifesaving
actions if you have a backcountry emergency.
Students will also be introduced to essential
clothing and equipment.

Sewing Techniques for Teens
Are you interested in fashion and trends? Do
you enjoy sewing clothes or making alterations
to turn an existing garment into something
trendy? Whether this is the first time you
pick up a needle and thread, or you’re already
familiar with a sewing machine, this class is
for you! This course will start you on your way
as a fashionista, from learning about patterns,
picking fabric and creating unique designs with
detail and trim to make your one-of-a-kind
product. We have a limited number of sewing
machines, so if you are able to bring one, we

nails. Homemade facial techniques will be taught

are best for their skin tones. They will also learn to
style and care for their hair with a variety
of options.

Increase your typing speed playing typing
games and taking typing tests to see your
progress. This course prepares students for the
requirements of the Common Core standards.
Beginning 2015 students must be able to
type both multiple paragraphs and practical
paragraphs as part of the Common Core
implementation. This practical but fun course
will get your student moving into the future
with an invaluable skill that will make him/her
more successful in everything they do.

The Way of the Hidden Shadow is a fun and

physical and mental martial arts and life skills

Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act of
1974 (FERPA). All student records of MiraCosta
College are kept in accordance with the
provisions
of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
A student may request access to those campus
records that personally identify the student; the
student may challenge the accuracy of the
record or the appropriateness of its retention in
the college records. Regardless of age, student
consent is needed for the release of records
covered by the act to outside parties except
for those agencies entitled to access under
the provisions of the act (e.g., college officials;
other schools; federal, educational and auditing
officers; and requestors in connection with the
application or receipt of financial aid). These
provisions apply to records received and used
after November 19, 1974.
Amendments to the act permit the college to
release what is called “directory information,”
provided that the student or former student
has not specifically asked the college to refrain
from releasing such information. Check with
the Admissions and Records Office for specific
directory information and notification of student
rights.
If you wish directory information not to be released
without your prior written consent, please indicate
on the college application or send a signed
request to the Admissions and Records Office,
MS 10A, MiraCosta College, 1 Barnard Drive,
Oceanside, CA 92056.
Student Right-to-Know Rates. In compliance
not grant consent to use the form online, it will
be mailed to your current address by the end
of January. Information will also be reported to
the IRS. If you did not provide your correct Social
Security number to the Admissions and Records
Office, complete a change of information form to
ensure accurate reporting to the IRS. Please check
with your tax preparer to determine if you are
eligible to take advantage of this credit and the
amount you may deduct.
Alcohol, Drugs & Tobacco. The district
shall be free from all illegal drugs and from
the unlawful possession, use or distribution of
controlled substances and alcoholic beverages.
Any employee, student, student worker or
volunteer who violates this policy will be subject
to disciplinary action (consistent with local, state,
or federal law), which may include referral to an
appropriate rehabilitation program, suspension,
demotion, expulsion or dismissal. MiraCosta
College is tobacco-free. No smoking or use of
tobacco products is permitted at any college site,
except inside parked vehicles.
with the Student-Right-to-Know and Campus
Security Act of 1990 (Public Law 101-542), it is
the policy of the MiraCosta Community College
District to make available its completion and
transfer rates to all current and prospective
students. Beginning in fall 2009, a cohort of
all certificate-, degree-, and transfer-seeking
first-time, full-time students was tracked over a
three-year period. Their completion and transfer
rates are listed below. These rates do not represent
the success rates of the entire student population
at MiraCosta College, nor do they account for
student outcomes occurring after this three-year
tracking period.
Based upon the cohort defined above, 27.70
percent attained a certificate or degree or
became “transfer prepared” during a three-year
period, from fall 2009 to spring 2012. Students
who are “transfer prepared” have completed 60
transferable units with a GPA of 2.0 or better.
Based on the cohort defined above, 16.65 percent
transferred to another postsecondary institution
(UC, CSU, or another California community
college) prior to attaining a degree, certificate,
or becoming “transfer-prepared” during a fivesemester period, from spring 2010 to spring 2012.
Selective Service—Important Notice for
Male Students. Federal law requires men 18
through 25 years of age to be registered with the
Selective Service System (SSS). The law applies
to male citizens and immigrant aliens but not to
foreign students who hold valid student visas. Men
must be registered before they can receive federal
or state financial aid for school, including loans
and grants. Registration forms are available at any
U.S. Post Office or online at www.sss.gov.
Federal Tax Credit. In accordance with federal
tax credit legislation, MiraCosta College will
post the 1098T form online in SURF at Payment &
Account Information/view 1098T. If you do

Work Skills Programs—Train quickly for a NEW career!
Two training sites to choose from:
Landes Recreation

CENTER
The Landes Recreation Center is home to our
Facility Technician and our Introduction to Solar PV
Installation programs. This training site is a perfect
working lab for these two hands-on programs.
With a large workroom containing machines
and tools, students will be cutting, building, and
installing. In addition, students will be able to
practice troubleshooting and repair. Both the
Facility Technician and the Introduction to Solar PV
Installation courses train for green jobs. With the
experience learned in our programs combined with
the support of our Work Skills Navigator and our
industry connections, students are provided solid
opportunities for employment.
Technology Career Institute
TECHNOLOGY
CAREER INSTITUTE
The Technology Career Institute was newly opened this spring. In this 22,000 squarefoot facility, MiraCosta Community Education & Workforce Development and the North
San Diego Small Business Development Center have joined forces to create a central
hub for training. This training site has three dedicated rooms for the Manufacturing
Machinist program, allowing us to add new equipment and expand the curriculum
and training opportunities.
We are launching our Engineering Technician program that has two dedicated rooms
for integrated training in electronics, electricity, mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics,
automation and robotics.
We have also moved our homeland
security series to this facility. This
allows us to maximize student training
and build further skill sets. We have
additional classrooms for future
work skills programs, incumbent
worker training, and the occasional
enrichment class or children’s program.
Additionally, our training site has a
kitchen, student center, and gym for
our students who are attending classes
all day or are coming from out of town.
