Students were given the opportunity to take part in multiple mini taster sessions covering a wide range of post 16 progression routes and career opportunities including, hair & beauty, sports studies, engineering, plumbing, cookery, forensic science, public services, & Music. The tasters allowed students to have a go as well as ask questions about college, sixth form and apprenticeship recruitment requirements. The taster event was then followed by the Year 9 parents/ options evening which allowed both students and parents to consider the importance of making suitable choices for key stage 4 and therefore aiding students’ progression at post 16. PeterPanProduction On Monday 23rd and Tuesday 24th of March FBEC Amateur Productions put on a fabulous Peter Pan Pantomime. Both nights were a great success and all the kids who took part did amazing and there were some great comical moments. A past pupil of only just over 2 years came back to produce the show and to see the end result, Ben Richardson has worked wonders. It was pretty much a pupil lead production, which is a really special thing to have. Everyone in the cast and crew left the last night buzzing, and that’s what it is all about. Well done to all who took part. FerryhillSchoolteachervisitsJordan On the fourth anniversary of the start of the Syrian con4lict, Clare Johnson from Ferryhill Business and Enterprise College joined a group of British school teachers visiting Jordan this week to support teachers and school children affected by the con4lict. The British Council organised the visit as part of the Connecting Classrooms programme. Clare Johnson from Ferryhill Business and Enterprise College visited Jordanian schools that host refugee children, and participated in a conference attended by teachers from the refugee camp at Zaatari (who themselves are Syrian refugees) ‘Connecting Classrooms’ has enabled me to witness 4irst-hand the devastating effect of the Syrian con4lict on their refugee population. Additionally the strain of educating the refugees in Lebanese and Jordanian schools. Most schools are now running two shifts as their numbers on roll have doubled with the in4lux of refugees. Teachers are understandably struggling to cope and not getting paid any extra to extend their working hours. British teachers were able to offer some resources, yet found it dif4icult to contemplate the increasing demands on their time and resources.
