There are only two ways through the Trough – canoe or train – and the ride is gorgeous in early fall. Eagles are sighted on 90% of Trough excursions. Camping enthusiasts can visit Lost River State Park or Trout Pond in the George Washington National Forest. The serene beauty of the hills and valleys is a wonderful starting location for outdoor family adventures like canoeing, rock climbing, fishing and geocaching. www.tricountycvb.com 10 A Picturesque Getaway © Kent Mason A camera will be the first thing you pack! Home to Spruce Knob, the highest point in West Virginia, and some of the most rugged mountain terrain to be found on the East Coast, Pendleton County is a picturesque get away that exemplifies the slogan “West Virginia, Wild and Wonderful.” With two national forests, the Monongahela and the George Washington, occupying a significant portion of Pendleton County real estate, we offer some of the best hunting and fishing in the Eastern U.S. You will enjoy experiencing Seneca Rocks or the Via Ferrata at Nelson Rocks. For those whose quest for adventure is not quite so physically demanding, Pendleton has a softer side. From Native American history at the National Forest Discovery Center to Harper’s Old Country Store at Seneca Rocks to the charming architecture of the town of Franklin, Pendleton County beckons the history lover in us all. Our heritage is rooted deep within the ridges and valleys of our county. These accounts of history are kept alive through events such as the Treasure Mountain Festival and through stories that are passed down throughout the generations. © Kent Mason Come on over and visit us in Pendleton County, we’d love to have you! www.tricountycvb.com 12 Play Grant Cave Mountain Ranch 304-257-1432 Country Store Opry countrystoreopry.com Dolly Sods Wilderness Area Call Ranger Station at 304-257-4488 ext. 0 Eagle’s Nest Outfitters 304-257-2393 Festival of Lights at Welton Park Geocaching Golden Lanes Bowling 304-257-1770 Grant County Farmers Market Grant County Parks and Recreation 304-257-1725 (City, Day, Echo, Turner, & Welton Parks) Greenland Gap Harman’s North Fork Invitational- Fly Fishing Tournament (May) wvlogcabins.com Just Plane Adventures 304-749-7000 Landes Performing Arts Center 304-257-1725 Michael Brothers Memorial Fields Sports Complex 304-257-1725 The listing of accommodations, restaurants, and attractions does not include all the businesses in these counties Please check tricountycvb.com for a more complete listing.
