AN AMERICAN ORIGINAL
100 years ago two brothers, Irving and Jack, went after their piece of
the American Dream. From their humble beginnings in a
basement on the lower east side of Manhattan the sons of a
Russian immigrant built a company that captured the spirit
of the American leather jacket and forever revolutionized
the way we dress for the outdoors.
In 2013, Schott NYC celebrates their first 100 years as an
American original. Throughout this catalog, discover some of
our most iconic jackets from the past 100 years, what
inspired these classic styles and why they have withstood
the test of time as American culture has evolved. Schott NYC
-- a true American original -- destined to carry on as one for
the next 100 years.

1941:
The
War
Years
As World War II
crept up
America’s
doorstep,
manufacturers
were quickly
called upon to
support the war
effort. The U.S.
Military tapped
Schott to
produce highly
functional
bomber jackets
-- something
rugged that
would also
provide warmth
to pilots flying at
high altitudes.
What began as a
military
necessity
quickly launched
a whole new
civilian clothing
trend. As the
war came to an
end in 1945, an
overabundance
of military
clothing and
supplies gave
rise to a vast
network of Army
Navy Surplus
stores throughout the country.
1945 Irving's son, Mel Schott serves
in Iwo Jima, receives a purple heart
for getting shot in the line of duty.
He spends the next year
recuperating in a hospital in Hawaii.

At the start of WWII, Irving Schott
produces a "bomber jacket" that
would serve and protect "Our Boys"
as they fight for liberty in the air
over Europe and the Pacific.
Production of civilian leather jackets
including motorcycle jackets is put
on hold as the factory devotes its
entire capacity to making sheepskin
bomber jackets, leather flight jackets
and peacoats to meet the increased
demand of the US military.
