to meet really talented people and
played sporadically with them as a

of music is shared by all our family
and our getting together is always full
of musical enjoyment. Fortunately,
both my children and both grandchildren significantly surpassed my and

When 15 years ago I immigrated to
United States, discovery of the “Music
Minus One” genre allowed me to
come back to classics. What else
filled all these years? Work, family,
traveling, skiing, jogging, reading.

Company Marching Band in Ballston
Spa, as well as the Ballston Spa
Community Band. His musical background includes the All-Ohio State
Fair Band and Ohio Music Education
Association Regional Orchestra while
in High School, and the Concert and
Marching Bands at the University of
Akron.
Marcie Reiter, violin, began taking
violin lessons with Albany Symphony
Orchestra violinist Brigitte Brodwin
when she was 7 years old. Marcie
has played with the Northeast String
Orchestra, Empire State Youth Orchestra, the College of St. Rose Summer Youth Music Orchestra, and in
several Saratoga Central Catholic
School Theater productions. She has
also sung with Diane Warner and the
Capital District Youth Chorale. Most
recently, Marcie sat violin I with the
Saratoga Springs Youth Orchestra,
who in the spring of 2014, debuted at
Carnegie Hall. Then in July
2014, Marcie travelled to Italy with
the orchestra to participate in the
invitation-only Festival of Youth Orchestras. Currently, Marcie is a Violin
Performance student
at the Schenectady County Community College School of Music. She
hopes to eventually get her degree in
Music Therapy. Having Asperger's
Syndrome, Marcie feels that music
has helped her overcome some of the
autism-spectrum challenges she has
faced, especially when she was
younger. She has met lifelong friends
through music, and she hopes to
someday share her love of music with
children on the autism spectrum. She
is happy this semester to be playing
in this orchestra with her father Jacob
Reiter, tuba.
Ann K. Seidman, violin, has a BA
and MA in history from Brooklyn
College and taught elementary school
in Brooklyn before moving to the
Capitol District with her husband
Peter. She was a substitute teacher
for the Shenendehowa and BHBL
School Districts. Ann has been a
member of the MCO for over 20
years and has served on the Board
as membership chair, secretary, and
President. Ann plays with the Union
College Orchestra and with the Sage
City Symphony in Bennington, VT.
When she was concertmaster at
Union, her husband bought her a
brand new Frirsz violin. Ann has
played with Opera Excelsior under
the baton of Corine Salon, Victor
Klimash and David Griggs-Janower.
As a Board Member of the Friends of
Chamber Music, Troy, NY, she was
the hospitality and logistics
coordinator for the chamber concerts
held in Kiggins Hall at Emma Willard
School. In addition, Ann is a member
of the Saratoga Lake Sailing Club
and served as Commodore and
presently, membership chair. Ann
races their Flying Scot sailboat with
Peter and serves as the NY Lakes
District Governor. She also enjoys
being a member of a virtual rowing
team, Free Spirits, and has
completed over 31 million lifetime
meters on an erg. She has competed
in Canada and in Boston at the
CRASH-B world championship
sprints.
Beth Smith, tympani, joined the
MCO in 2002. She has played percussion since 5th grade, including
during her undergraduate years with
the Brown University marching
(football) and skating (hockey) bands.
Beth has degrees in Mechanical Engineering and was a Program Manager at GE before leaving to home-
school her three awesome sons. She
lives in Clifton Park with her husband,
boys, and Chesapeake bay retriever.
Isaac Smith, viola, began playing
violin and viola in the 3rd grade and
hasn’t stopped since. He joined the
MCO in the spring of 2011, and truly
enjoys being part of such a supportive community of like-minded and
talented musicians. In his spare time,
Isaac enjoys singing in a barbershop
chorus, teaching, and running with his
wonderful dog, Windy.
Jennifer Stratton, cello, is happy to
be part of an orchestra again! She
has always been encouraged and
inspired by her parents’ love of music
and her mother’s professions as a
bass player in the Hudson Valley
Philharmonic and an Elementary
String Music teacher. Jen’s musical
interests started in elementary school
with piano playing followed by ‘cello
and French Horn, although ‘cello
became her exclusive focus by the
end of high school. During the years,
Jen has participated in various bands,
orchestras and ensemble groups,
including the Hudson Valley Youth
Symphony, the Union College Orchestra, and the Albany Medical College Chamber Orchestra. Her professional education includes undergraduate majors in Biology and Music at
Union College, medical school at
Albany Medical College and residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse. Jen returns to the area as a
Family Physician at the Queensbury
Family Health Center with Hudson
Headwaters Health Network.

Power Laboratory. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Vassar College
and a master’s in Operations Research and Statistics from RPI. She
has been active in instrumental and
vocal music all her life. In addition to
MCO, she occasionally plays with
other local groups..
Ralph Thomas, bass clarinet, a
tuba major in college, began his musical career playing piano in an offBroadway touring repertory theatre
company. After moving to Vermont in
1980, Ralph became a harpist and
played 2nd harp with the VSO for a
decade. He also performed at weddings and events all over the state.
With the VSO Ralph has worn a number of hats from Ensemble Coordinator to Symphony Kids performer in 93

by studying violin and then switched

through college. He began horn
while at Rice University and since
coming to the Schenectady area in
1972 has played in the Schenectady
Symphony Orchestra, the Guilderland
Town Band, and various other com-
munity orchestras and bands. Charlie has also played with the Central
New York Summer Orchestra and
the Santa Barbara Chamber Philharmonia for European tours.
Patricia Trustin Walsh, violin, is a
native of Binghamton. After high
school, she left there to attend The
College of Saint Rose, where she
earned a Bachelor of Science degree, and went on to do graduate
studies at Siena College. Pat has
played piano since she was in grammar school. She studied violin with
the late Alfredo Cavalieri and Michael Emery. The years between
college and retirement were spent in
nursing, at Saint Mary's Hospital, in
Troy, for thirty-three years, then part
time at the N.Y.S. Home Health
Care Program. She has played with
the Delmar (now Bethlehem) Community Orchestra. While spending
winters in Florida, she plays with the
Imperial Symphony Orchestra, in
Lakeland, and presently plays with
the Albany Senior Orchestra.
