This column was written on the Fourth of July, a day on which
many of our region’s members were closely monitoring the firestorm
on the edge of Goleta and Santa Barbara. We know that many had to
evacuate their homes, including family of yours truly. We hope and
pray that none suffered serious loss of property, and of course that
no one sustained any injuries. Unfortunately, this is becoming an
annual phenomenon and seems to grow in magnitude each year.
It is our fervent wish that our club activities provide a respite
and escape from the trauma inflicted by the inferno. If we can offer
comfort to those affected, even for just an hour or two, with our
camaraderie and compassion, we shall serve a vital purpose.
By the time this is published, our 2008 Chili Cookoff will
be history. We already know that attendance will be excellent as
advance registrations are outpacing last year’s record numbers. We
are indebted to Jim and Terry Middlebrook for their generous and
gracious hosting of the annual event. Coming in August is our
annual progressive dinner, and this too will be a sellout once again.
Oscar and Toni Briones have put together a fun filled afternoon,
with great food at wonderful locations. There is still time to register;
see the flyer in this newsletter. On August 10 we will celebrate our
return to Autocrossing in Santa Barbara. Michael Zois is chairing
this competitive event.
September 13 will bring us a clinic for concours. It will be
conducted at Porsche Santa Barbara and will divulge techniques the
pros use in concours preparation. You will have an opportunity to
put these lessons to use at the October 12 Concours on the campus of
Santa Barbara City College. On that latter date there will be a small
silent auction for the benefit of The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and
the grand raffle prize will be the two day Porsche Driving Experience
in Birmingham, Alabama. What a prize! The following weekend,
on the 18th, we will be sponsoring the CFF walk-a-thon in Santa
Barbara. We are still not done for October as our (sometime) annual
Poker Run will be chaired by Ted Lighthilzer and Doreen Pankow
on the 25th. It will be coupled with a catered bar-be-que lunch at
Lake Casita. Details on all of the aforementioned can be found in
this newsletter.
Our region is taking the national lead in offering a variety of
social, technical and competitive events. Join the fun and share in
the adventures, and please consider assisting us by serving on the
club’s board of directors in an elected or appointed position. Your
participation and involvement are equally desired.
Officer Pedefferi Returns Home
Early this year, the Santa Barbara Region opened its heart and generously supported the family of California Highway Patrol Officer
Tony Pedeferri who almost lost his life when a driver high on marijuana and ecstasy struck the officer while on patrol duty on Highway
101. The crash left another driver dead. We are pleased to advise that Officer Pedeferri was brought home during the Fourth of July
weekend after spending six months in hospitals in California and Colorado. All of us send our very best wishes to Officer Pedefferi and
his family as they continue to work on his recovery.

The fires have subsided, and our fellow Porsche members have
returned to their homes. The community cannot thank the valiant
firefighters enough for their hard work in the protection of our lives
and property. They are all so much appreciated.
Your Board of Directors has worked very hard all year to organize
and guide the Club to achieve our current level of participation
and excellence. The Santa Barbara Region is a very active group
with a heavy schedule of events. A new ballot for officers is being
developed to choose the 2009 Board of Directors. If you would like
to participate and help take the Club to its next level, now is the
time to think about what you would like to do and to let the current
board know of your interest. The votes will be cast in November and
the new officers announced at the Holiday Party in December.
The Club is very excited about the grand raffle prize at the
concours being held on Sunday, October 12, in Santa Barbara. The
lucky winner will receive a two-day, high-performance driving course
given by the Porsche Driving Experience at Barber Motorsports Park
near Birmingham, Alabama. The course has a value of $2995 and
is donated courtesy of Porsche Cars North America, Santa Barbara
Auto Group and Walt Branscome. If you have not participated in
an event spearheaded by our concours chair, Bill Sampson, you are
in for a real treat. It is guaranteed not to be boring.
The detail clinic to prepare for the concours is to be held at
Santa Barbara Auto Group on September 13, 2008, following
the Santa Barbara breakfast. The clinic will feature well-known
and knowledgeable Porsche enthusiast and concours judge, Dick
Douglass, who promises to furnish the correct answer to this quiz
at the “school.”
How do you clean your windows for a Concours?
a) Spray the entire window with cleaner and wipe dry with
newspaper.
b) Spray the towel and wipe the window
c) Spray the entire window and wipe with a clean towel from
the dryer.
d) Spray with clear water and wipe dry.
e) Dance with the girl you brung to the dance.
By the end of the clinic, you will be able to answer this question
as well as many more. The things you never thought you might do
with a cotton swab. For a first-timer’s report on how to prepare for
the event, you might contact Chet Yabitsu (with his ever-helpful
better half ) for his tips on preparation. They were the winners of
the President’s Choice Award. Or you might contact veteran David
Stone who won best in class for wash-and-shine. Contact Bill
Sampson to volunteer for the concours and join in the fun.
I hope to see you at the events. Travel safely.

New Members’
Picnic
By Nancy Maletz

June 22nd brought the New Members’ Picnic to honor all new
members of the Santa Barbara Region over the past two years.
Organized by Dave Mosesson and a healthy crew of volunteers, the
bar-b-que was held at Freedom Park in Camarillo next door to the
airport. Even the brutally hot weather did not deter the 100 plus in
attendance, both present members and new sign-ups. The event was
also a fund raiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, our charity of
choice this year. With a silent auction (thank you Carol Mathieu,

Shannon Kavanaugh and their crew of volunteers and sponsors), a
raffle of car-care products, a booth from Rusnak Porsche, who also
graciously sponsored this event, and our own PCA/SBR Porsche
Goodie Shop (thank you John and Jeanne McNair), the picnic was
a rousing success. Raising a whopping $2,220 from all of the above
activities for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, we couldn’t be more
delighted and proud of our members. Way to go all!
Members began arriving around 12:00 p.m. Bill Sampson took it
upon himself to lead only dark-colored Porsches through the dustiest
part of the park rather than coming in on the paved road. (Bill was
overheard muttering something about wanting to try donuts in the
dust.) We’re not sure, but wearing that hat, we think that Bill may
have escaped from the movie set of Jumanji. Dave Mosesson was
thrilled that Nancy Maletz agreed to drive his Turbo while he placed
signs out on the main road alerting drivers as to the whereabouts of
the picnic. (Obviously Bill missed these.) On the way back, Dave
was heard to be muttering something about needing a new clutch

boldly manned the scorchingly hot bar-bque, Marge Misevic began mixing up the
salad. Unfortunately for Marge and the rest
of us, she mistook the horseradish for the
ranch dressing with some interesting results.
Caesar salad with quite-the-kick may
become a new rage! Marge also prepared
the salsa and guacamole, adding her own
little extras which more than made up for
the horseradish salad. Thanks to Chef Leon

Mike Dolphin, the Zone 8 representative,
was also present with a donated Porsche

we got it! Thanks Mike. Everyone showed
their truly altruistic nature to raise money
for this great charity.
Lunch was served at 1:30 p.m. with
tri-tip, chicken, hot dogs, baked beans,
Nancy Maletz handing out one of many
raffle prizes to the lucky winners.
Attendees had the choice to browse
the scrapbook table, peruse the items
from Rusnak, have their faces painted
by aspiring artist Anna Carastro or just
socialize with other members. The silent
auction got underway with people bidding
on an array of prizes. Items offered were
everything from gift baskets from Trader
Joe’s and Starbucks to personal offers from
Mike Hodson for a private ride in his
airplane to the Tureks’ sailing excursion on
their boat. Mike Hodson also supplied the

flew through 180 bottles of water in no
time, but the weather was accommodating.
Between shade and a nice breeze, the heat
was quite manageable. Dessert included
chocolate and vanilla cakes, and huge
cupcakes for the kids. With only one
unfortunate incident of keys being locked
in a trunk, the day came off without a
hitch.
At the end of the day, we counted
the votes for the concours and reverse

keys inside and had not purchased a spare key with her car. After the tow truck driver
could not get the car open and could not tow the car, Walt called the Porsche mechanics who
gave instructions on how to open the Boxster trunk through the wheel well. Mike and Walt were
able to pop the release. A similar incident happened on the Grand Canyon trip with a late model
Carrera. Please remember to keep a spare key available in case of emergencies like this.

The People’s Choice Award was given to Joe Carastro for his 2006 Ruf Cayman S. Joe was
awarded a $100 gift certificate to Griot’s Garage. Despite a ballot stuffing attempt to name
a certain yellow turbo cab as the most cosmetically challenged, the award was presented to
George Lehtinen for his dark blue 1965 356C Coupe – his daily driver. George was awarded
a bucket full of car care products. With 50 new members and 50 “old timers” in attendance,
the Newcomers’ Picnic was declared an unbridled success. To all those who volunteered their
time, sweat and cleaning supplies (and Carol Mathieu for getting there at 3:30 a.m.), the
decorations looked great as we sat at clean tables and benches. Shout out to Jeannette Bassett,
Olga Liakas, Shannon Kavanaugh, Stephanie Mann, Phyllis Weaver, Jeanne McNair, Susan
Stone, Karen Turek and the assorted men who helped. Thank you one and all for your
generosity and participation. We look forward to doing it again in two years.
New Members’ Picnic Silent Auction a Huge Success.
Thank You, Thank You!
Despite the hot weather, the New Members’ Picnic Silent Auction was a great success. With balloons dancing in the wind, members
shopped the auction items and made their bids. Competition at the auction was spirited, and the highest bidders celebrated by picking
up their hard fought winnings. The biggest winner, however, was the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation with all monies collected going
towards our grand total.
We would like to extend much appreciation and gratefulness to the members and companies below that contributed auction items.
Thank you!

R.U.F. California Oil
Museum Adventure
Article by Frank and Kelly Ladwig
Photos by Nick Liakas
We just put some 40’s music on the XM in order to write the
report on the July 17th R.U.F. event at the California Oil Museum
in Santa Paula. It seems fitting since the day was a step back in
time at the museum as well as at the Deer Lodge, our restaurant
location.
Sixteen Porsches of all colors and vintages left the Oxnard
Costco parking lot at 9:45 a.m. after signing waivers, paying
R.U.F.-ian ransoms to Nick and getting directions from organizers,
Frank and Kelly Ladwig. The group set off on a circuitous route
through Camarillo and the fertile countryside, though pastures and
vineyards, passing ranches, villas, a wedding chapel, and an alpaca
ranch. Finally, turning up Balcom Canyon Road, we crested at the
peak to be greeted by a contrasting, stark, desolate, white, steep
expanse. Traveling down the approximate 20 degree grade to South
Mountain Road, we proceeded as a veritable parade into Santa Paula
where we were greeted by blocked parking places on Main and 10th
Street in front of the California Oil Museum.
The
museum
staff had graciously
blocked the street
parking for us in
appreciation of our
visit and they were
knowledgeable,
helpful, and friendly
throughout
our
tour.
Our entourage
was
split
into
smaller groups to
better see the various
areas: the upstairs
offices, the oil rig,
and the artifacts
and dam disaster.

from the 1920’s occupied the 2nd floor complete with an
authentically furnished apartment for the supervisor’s family. He
was on the job 24 hours a day as he had to be available to record and
advise anyone with a new oil strike, anywhere, anytime.
For many of us the furnishings brought back memories of daysgone-by. Michael Brovsky noted a Regulator clock identical to the
one in his grandfather’s Colorado store. Karen Turek remarked on the
total absence of the female gender from any aspect of the operation.
Karen Kahn was amazed to see the apparent mint condition the
company stocks were still in despite not being preserved under
glass all these years, and Linda Kuckenbaker illuminated us with
her knowledge that Saudi Arabian oil is clear gold color and local
American oil is black.
Some folks enjoyed looking at the full-scale, actual oil rig that
was found buried in an avalanche a few miles outside of Santa Paula
and rebuilt on site. Nick tracked down why the gas of the day was
called Union 76....it was 76 octane. Octane, by the way, is a measure
of the auto ignition resistance and also the anti-detonation of fuel.
Does that help? Frank noted that when he was in high school, gas
was 28 cents a gallon, the same price on one of the antique gas
pumps on display.
Other members covered the St. Francis Dam Disaster display
that encompassed an entire room of the building. It has only a few
more days before the exhibit moves on to another city. It was an
awesome look at the second worst disaster to affect California in the
first half of the 20th Century. Coincidentally both major disasters,
this dam collapse of 1928 and the San Francisco earthquake of
1906, bore the name St. Francis.
The dam that William Mulholland designed and supervised
broke three minutes before midnight five miles northeast of Santa
Clarita and nine miles north of Saugus. It released 12.5 billion
gallons of water to the sea, taking six hours to reach Ventura, sixtyfive miles away. It released what would be comparable to the volume
of a river ten feet deep, one mile wide and six miles long.
10 August 2008 Santa Barbara Region Porsche Club of America
www.pcasb.org
In more recent years some have said that the understanding of
geology in 1928 wasn’t advanced enough to prevent the disaster. The
dam was built upon shale and sedimentary rock, and Mulholland
himself, as the engineer, accepted all the blame for the breach. He
was vindicated in a court of law but was later quoted as saying, “I
envy the dead.” He died several years later, a broken man, often
repeating that if human error caused the disaster, then he himself was
that human. More than 450 lives were lost in the flood including
most of the children in an elementary school in its path.
Following our morning at the museum, we proceeded up 10th
Street passing two bronze statues of the motorcycle cops at the
Santa Paula railroad crossing. These two heroes represented the
officers who raced ahead of the torrential wave of water engulfing
the community along its path and warned any unwary residents.
You might want to check out the statues the next time you are in
Santa Paula.
Our route next took us up and over the mountains to upper
Ojai and down the twisties to the peaceful Ojai Valley. We paraded
Browsing the exhibits at the California Oil Museum.
through town and up Highway 33 to the Deer Lodge on Maricopa
Highway. This old, western watering hole was established in 1932.
Local cowboys and ranchers were its patrons - today Los Angeles
car clubs and bikers are among the regulars. It is on the pathway to
wonderful mountain rides. Worthy of comment are the giant rock
fireplaces, reminiscent of a Montana lodge with the walls adorned
with mounted large animals: gazelle, ram, moose, eland, and even
a spread-eagle ostrich over the bar. The African eland was donated
to the lodge in the 40’s when a local taxidermist closed his Ojai
business.
The menu, while challenging for vegetarians, had an interesting
plethora of wild game, including ostrich burgers and venison for
some of the omnivores among us.
The food in general was excellent, the service friendly and the
lone cook in the back room frightenly overwhelmed. However,
slow service made for interesting conversations among new and old
friends and certainly a relaxed atmosphere.
We all had a great time!

The sky was slightly overcast above the July 12th PCA/SBR
breakfast meeting at the Moby Dick Restaurant on Stearns Wharf in
Santa Barbara. The sun did begin to break through, however, as the
breakfast was ending around 10:15 a.m. Even with the grey skies,
we still managed to attract a crowd of 55 people in 34 porsches.
A few years
back this kind of
participation
at
the Santa Barbara
Breakfast meeting
was unheard of.
It would have
been
considered
a major showing.
Now 55 attendees
is actually on the
low side compared

breakfasts over the past year.
We don’t know if this is due to the gas crisis, the fact that people
are away for the summer, or the overcast weather. Even so, the
count was quite respectable. Parenthetically, the cost of gas and the
housing crisis seem to be common subjects for discussion prior to
the meetings. One of our long-time members even mentioned that

After most were served, Nick took the stand and introduced
Membership Chairman Dave Stone, who in turn introduced new
member Jack Tiethof to the group. Jack lives in Goleta and drives a

and guests to our meetings.

Activities Co-Chair Oscar Briones talked about the upcoming
club events. We have a full calendar throughout the rest of year.
There’s always something fun to do with our club on almost a
weekly basis. Check out our website, or look through Der Auspuff
for details and sign-up sheets for all of our meetings, events, and
activities. The only caveat is that you sign up early for these activities
as most sell out well in advance of the registration deadline.
Many believe that this is the most active Porsche club in the
nation. After the announcements, members continued to enjoy
each other’s company and conversation.

2008 Porsche Parade
Article and Photos by Burt Misevic
There are resort Porsche Parades like San
Diego and Steamboat Springs and there are
downtown city Parades like Milwaukee
and Cincinnati. Resort Parades lure us
with sandy beaches or mountain views but,
Charlotte’s glittering high rise buildings,
appealing restaurants, and historical
sculptures offered a whole new Parade
experience. We had the streets to ourselves
for the Sunday concours. As we walked
a few blocks from our Hampton Inn to
Tryon Street, Porsches were everywhere.
Concours cars, noses pointed outward from
the curb, were parked diagonally for blocks
four-plus hour drive in surrounding lush
and green North Carolina countryside.
Most entrants finished the event and were
seriously ready for adult-liquid beverages at
the finish. Finishing first and second on the
Rally were Californians Jay Tony and Tom
Gould. Both partnered with their respective
daughters for great finishes in this event.
The speed event was conducted in
one day at a nice open venue. The course
favored the best handling cars and was not
so helpful for high horsepower entries.
There were many cars participating and the
day was very long with a 914 taking top
time of day.
If you have been to a Porsche Parade,
you will recall you must sign up for table
Porsches lined up downtown Charlotte at the National PCA Parade.
and blocks. Cameras clicked and clicked. A
green 356 coupe, filled with the very best
rally equipment of its day, drew a crowd of
men also from that vintage.
No grass dampened our feet, no
sprinklers impeded our progress. A brisk
breeze tugged at wide-brimmed sun hats
and the high rises shaded us from the sun.
In fact, the weather the entire week was in
the mid-eighties and the humidity around
eighty percent. What a wonderful place for
a concours.
Men in suits and lots of traffic greeted
us Monday morning as we walked past the
construction site for the new NASCAR
museum. We were on our way to Parade
headquarters at the Westin to visit the
Goodie Store and attend the rally workers
meeting. We stopped to chat with Carolyn
Ewbank, an SBR member and PCA
National Membership Chairman. Also
attending from SBR was Greg Young who
judges in the Parade concours.
The Parade time-distance rally was a
seating for the two big banquets. Is it big?
2000 attended the Monday night banquet.
We often choose two available seats at a still
empty table because it’s a way to meet and
get acquainted with members from all over
the country. This time we enjoyed meeting
and getting to know a couple from the
Carrera GT on display at the Concours.
Orange Coast Region who are best friends
with former SBR members Martin and
Ankie Jensen.
While all the above was occurring, there
were opportunities for gimmick rallying,
tours of NASCAR Shops (The Roger
Penske shops getting rave reports), tours of
local museums and estates, and visiting the
many vineyards in the area.
Once again, we came away from a
place we fell in love with and memories of
sharing our lives with old and new friends.
Why? Because we choose to enjoy owning
and driving a car known as Porsche.
Next year the Porsche Parade will be held
June 29th through July 4th at the Keystone
ski resort in Colorado. The location is a
one-night, two-day drive from SBR. Give
a thought to attending and join the large
SBR contingent for a wonderful week with
Porsche friends from around the U.S. More
information will be in Porsche Panorama
starting in November and frequently in
issues of Der Auspuff.

July Board Meeting
Minutes Recorded by Nadine Tracy
Thank you Carol Mathieu for hosting our board meeting at
Affinity Bank’s Community Room.
Present were: Janice Herndon, Ray Jordan, Joan and Chet
Yabitsu, Oscar Briones, Bill Sampson, John Alfenito, Kent Bodin,
Nick Liakas, James Oldham, Burt Misevic, Jeanne and John McNair,
Carol Mathieu, and Nadine Tracy.
Vice President: Dave Mosesson was not present but report
accepted as submitted.
Treasurer: A motion was made and passed that in the future,
footnotes showing dollar amounts earmarked for the Cystic Fibrosis
Foundation be added to the Treasurer’s Report.
Membership: At the end of June, 15 new members joined
the region and membership stood at 671. Nick will be sending
individual e-mails to new members.
Activities: Oscar reported terrific responses to all planned
activities. The Chili Cookoff scheduled for July 25, has 82 people
signed up and is sold out. The Santa Barbara Region Autocross
already has 15 couples confirmed.
Editor: Janice reported the Post Office’s slow delivery of Der
Auspuff. Some members have not yet received their copy.
Distribution: Sir Speedy Printing delivered 800 copies of the
July newsletter and they were mailed on July 1.
Advertising: Bill reported he has sold more ads and the total for
the year is now over $17,000.
Goodie Store: John and Jeanne suggested the creation of a form
for inclusion in Der Auspuff or online to order badges. A motion
was made and passed to offer badges for $12.00. The Goodie Store
at the Santa Barbara breakfast meetings isn’t bringing in the desired
revenue and it was suggested that we forego July and August displays
there and see how it goes.
Concours: Bill is currently working on flyers and registration
forms for this event. He requested $260 for advertising and
promotion of the concours. Motion was made and passed.
Additional sponsorships have been approved by Santa Barbara Auto
Group and Bill is looking into T-shirts for the October 12 event.
He was also pleased to announce that Walt Branscome has obtained
from Porsche a gift of the Porsche Driving Experience, a two-day
course, valued at $2995. It will be offered at the concours through
raffle, silent auction, or other means. This will generate tremendous
interest in this well-attended event to be held at Santa Barbara City
College.
Insurance: Dave Mosesson is handling insurance and all waivers
have been obtained for events through August.
Autocross: Santa Barbara Region Autocross scheduled for August
10 is looking for volunteers.
Archives: Burt reported his display at the New Members’ Picnic
was well received. He requested that a PCA National Banner be
obtained for the club at a cost of $40. Motion made and passed.
Webmaster: The website is current for all events and news. All
editions of Der Auspuff through June, 2008 are on the website and
a new menu, “Community Car Events”, has been added.
Safety: No report.
P.M.S.: The next event will be on August 2 after the Camarillo
breakfast. Twenty two ladies have already signed up for the electric
boat adventure in the Channel Islands Harbor.
R.U.F.: Nick reported the group will be attending the Union
Oil Museum on July 17 and the August excursion is in the works.
Old Business: Nick would like a progress report from the
Nomination Committee on their findings so far.
New Business: The October board meeting will be held at the
Old Vienna Restaurant in Ventura.
Meeting adjourned at 8.00 p.m.

Do You Have the Correct
Car Insurance Coverage?
By PCASBR Member George Lehtinen
What’s it worth to ya, fella? Well, maybe more than you think
if you are talking about a 356.
For example, while waiting for my train home from the last
Ventura Porsche Show, I had a conversation with father-and-son
owners of a 1964 SC they have stored for at least the last 20 years.
They said the car is in good condition and had no substantial work
done on it. As we chatted about 356s, it became clear that they
are new to the modern Porsche world and probably had little idea
of what their car might be worth. I told them I would buy them
each a beer if they came within $10,000 of its worth. They guessed
$20,000 so they were both shocked, to put it mildly, when I showed
them an ad in the September 2007 Porsche Market Letter (PML)
for an un-restored 1964 Cabriolet for $130,000. I suggested that
they subscribe to PML and get some advice from someone familiar
with the value of 356s before they do anything to it. My train came
just then and I left them in a very animated conversation.
A car has to be collectable when it is new or it becomes just
an old car. Such an inglorious old age definitely has not been the
fate for 356s and many of the original 76,000 are survivors today
despite the fact that on a quiet night you can hear them rust. So
desirable are they that, if you are lucky enough to own a highend 1965 Coupe, its market value jumped from $26,000 in 2005
to $36,000 in 2006, to $55,000 last year and again to $62,000
this year. That is a breathtaking gain of 138% in just a few years.
Cabriolets substantially out price the coupes and rare or specialty
models like Speedsters have had six digit prices for a few years.
And, as the father and son learned, a good, unrestored 356 carries
with it the aura of rarity, genuineness, historical authenticity, and
it may command a higher price than a similar model restored to
better condition.
The rapid price increases make it prudent to “refresh” your
insurance coverage. You can document an increased declared value
to your insurer by using the September issue of PML, the June issue
of the Porschephile magazine “Excellence,” or the ads in Hemmings
Motor News and 356 Registry Magazine. The sources naturally
vary a bit but they are consistent in revealing the recent sharp
upsurge in 356 prices. Nothing could replace a totaled or stolen
pride and joy but an undervalued insurance settlement would make
the pain even worse.
The run up in their prices may come from a weak dollar or
perhaps Baby Boomers moving into retirement now have the time
and money to reclaim a youthful passion. Whatever the reason, a
356 is not only a fun and friendly car, it is also a wise investment
(or at least that is what I tell my wife.)
Note: Porsche Market Letter is an industry and enthusiast
monthly available by subscription. It tracks sales prices with each
month’s issue specializing in a different Porsche type. It also has
many commercial and private ads for cars, parts and services related
to Porsches. PML address is P.O. Box 365, Ridgecrest, CA 93555.
The website is www.pmletter.com. Excellence Magazine is a slick
Porsche specialty publication available at many news stands. The
Excellence website is www.excellence-magazine.com. Hemmings
Motor News is a phone book sized national compendium of ads
for every conceivable type of car and it is available at many news
stands. The non-profit 356 Registry organization’s bi-monthly 356
Registry Magazine is a high-quality, subscription-only magazine
focusing on 356s. The website is www.356registry.org.

The Optimist Creed
Promise YourselfTo be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.
To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.
To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.
To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.
To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.
To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the
presence of trouble.
