A Message from the ALCA Board President
By: Bill Lucas
Spring has finally sprung after having a very long, snowy
winter! We are definitely looking forward to some hot fun in the
summer sun when our community blossoms with recreational activities. Our Recreation Manager, Kristin Loughran, in coordination with our Recreation Committee, has a full variety of activities
planned for all summer long.
If you are looking to enjoy a million dollar view, our
Lodge will continue to offer Friday Night Foods, offering varietyfrom pizza to clambakes. Come out and enjoy meeting your
neighbors on the Lodge’s back decks! A Carnival at the Island
Grounds, June 13th to the 15th is planned and the Island Pool will
be open during this event. July 4th brings us a Fireworks Spectacular, along with a bonfire and band (Long Time Comin’). On
July 5th, there will be a DJ at the Island Pool all day long, with a
Bounce House and Dunk Tank. The 15th Annual Fishing Derby
is scheduled for July 19th & 20th. Race for the Arrow 5K, benefiting the V Foundation for Cancer Research, will be held on August
3rd. A Dinner and Dance is scheduled for August 30th, along
with a Kid’s Rec Night. Many other activities planned include 5
Bonfires, Baseball Trips, and even a trip to Camelbeach. Let’s not
forget to come out and support our competitive Swim Team –
Rapid Arrows too!
This year, Kristin is introducing JSTAR (Junior Staff
Training Program for Arrowhead Residents). This program is
geared towards 11-14 year olds to help foster responsibility and
important job skills, as well as being a great opportunity to make
new friends and have fun!
While enjoying the summertime months, please be
mindful of the speed limit within the community. Please yield to
pedestrians, bikers, and golf carts to help keep our community
safe throughout the summer. The speed limit is 25 mph, with
the exception of near our amenities/beaches, where it is 15 mph.
Remember to SLOW DOWN while traveling throughout our
community!
In addition to our wonderful staff, we depend on
volunteers to help with most of our events. I cordially invite and
encourage all ALCA Members to expand participation in our
community and get involved by volunteering your time.
Remember to check the Summer Rec Calendar regularly
and checkout our website (www.arrowheadca.org) for additional
information on events and activities.
Enjoy your Summer with your Family & Friends!
Sincerely,
Bill Lucas, Board President
See you at the Lodge!
Enrich your experience: Volunteer!
A Message from the Recreation Manager
By: Kristin Loughran, Recreation & Lodge Manager
Welcome back to summer! There are a lot of great activities going on this summer and it can be easy to miss out on fun- so
make sure to read your calendar or check out the list of events at the back of the this book. In an effort to get more information about
programs out to the community we will be having a Memorial Day Activity Fair at the Lodge on Saturday May 24th from 10AM-12PM.
Come down and talk to representatives from Swim Team, Swim Lessons, Tennis, Karate, Pickleball, Day Camp, JSTAR (Junior Staff
Training for Arrowhead Residents), Kid’s Sports and more. You can also find information about these programs throughout this book.
This summer there are some changes to some of your favorite activities like an extra day of camp a week, private swim lessons, and the
addition of a lap swim/stroke clinic time.
The Recreation and Aquatics departments heard from members that there was a need for a Youth Boat Safety Class- ask and
you shall receive! This class will take place on June 28th & July 2nd from 1-2PM under the pavilion. Look for flyers for more information! Aquatics and Recreation have also come together to create a new event in place of the Lifeguard vs. Swim Team games. This new
event will take place on Thursday July 17th at the Clubhouse field and will benefit the V Foundation for Cancer Research. The Lifeguard
staff, Swim Team, and Camp Staff will compete in Field Day type events. Raffles and food sales will also take place to raise money for
this special charity. Island Pool will remain open normal times that day for those who choose not to attend. Another popular event
returning this year is the Youth Fishing Derby on July 19th and 20th, remember to sign up early!
If you haven’t stopped by the Lodge yet for Friday Night Food, come by and check it out! A complete list of all the types of
food can be found at the back of this book. To kick off the summer we will be having Bingo on the Saturday of Memorial Day and a
Bonfire with a DJ on Sunday at the Island Pavilion. Look for the box in this book for a complete list of all bonfires this summer. Movie
Night on the Beach was such a success that we decided to bring it back again this year, as well as Dive-In Movies, all of which can be
found on your calendars! A few more of the fun events going on this summer are the Pig Roast & Luau with a DJ and new catering
company, Autism Speaks Benefit on August 2nd, Race for the Arrow 5K on August 3rd, Chili Cook-off to benefit Tobyhanna Fire Company, Flea Markets at Homes on Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day Weekend, Ice Cream Social & Magic Show on August 8th, and
live music performances every week somewhere around the Community! Also, to celebrate our dedicated volunteers we will be having
a Volunteer Appreciation Social on August 24th at the Island Pavilion as a small token of our thanks. All active volunteers are invited!
Lastly, there are a few more big events going on this summer, starting with… the CARNIVAL!! This summer’s Carnival will
take place on Friday June 13th, Saturday June 14th and Sunday June 15th at the Island Grounds. There will be Rides, Games, prizes,
and food all weekend long! Mark your calendars for that and for the fireworks, bonfire, and band on Friday July 4th; as well as Independence Fun at the Island Pool with Bounce House, Dunk Tank, Sand Art & DJ on Saturday July 5th; and Sandcastle Contest, Softball
Tournament and Acoustic Music on Sunday July 6th. Finally, on Labor Day weekend, finish up summer with the Labor Day Dinner
Dance and Kid’s Rec Night on Saturday August 30th and Bonfire and Band on Sunday August 31st. Remember to buy your tickets for
the Dinner & Dance early!
Remember that all your Recreation, event, and activity questions can be answered by calling (570)643-9323 or by stopping in
at the Lodge. Look forward to seeing all of you around the Lake!!

The Nature Conservancy’s mission is to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends. The
Poconos have been named to the Conservancy’s list of “The World’s Last Great Places” because the area

celebration and raffle at the Island Pavilion on
August 10th.
This season we’d like to add extra play days for
both the youth and adult programs. The youth
program takes place on Tuesday mornings and
we’d like to have the extra play on Thursdays
mornings. The adult extra play would take place
on Sunday mornings.
If you have any items to donate to our raffle, we’d
love to have them (apparel, key chains, water
bottles, balls, rackets, sunglasses, visors, etc.).
SAVE THE DATE – Sat., June 28th @ 4PM at the
Lodge - we’re planning an adult tennis social.
All adult tennis players are welcome to join us.
Please come out and meet other tennis players
from the community!
Extra play is giving the kids and adults another
day to get together and just play tennis. Extra
play will not be run by the Tennis Instructors,
but will be dependent on volunteers (members/
parents/grandparents). Volunteer forms will be
attached to the sign up forms.
Sign-ups for all programs can be completed at
the Lodge, starting May 17th. Dates for each of
the programs are listed below. New youth players
in the Rally Ball group (9-12 yrs old) will need to
provide proof of age.

The Arrowhead Anglers will hold the 15th annual Youth
Fishing Derby on the weekend of July 19th and 20th.
Children between the ages of 6 and 13 are eligible to
participate. Pre-registration is highly recommended and
will run from June 7th to July 6th.You may obtain a form
from the Lodge or at www.arrowheadca.org. Last year,
114 children participated and 110 fish were caught and
released.
Participants will be divided into three groups:
Novice (age 6-7)
Intermediate (8-10)
Advanced (age11-13)
Saturday’s program will start at 8:30AM and end at
11:30AM. The Anglers encourage parents to accompany
their children both days.
Registration will begin at 8:30AM at the Island Pool
Pavilion. At 9:00AM the children will stock Bigmouth
Bass in the Island Lagoon. Following the stocking, the
children will be divided into groups and the seminars
will begin. The seminars will end at 11:30AM. NO fishing equipment is needed on Saturday. All children
must participate in the Saturday seminars to be eligible
to receive awards or receive a ticket for Sunday’s raffle.
Sunday’s activities will begin at 8:30AM at the Island Pool
Pavilion where the young anglers will receive the rules
and regulations for the morning. Fishing will conclude at
11:00AM. Children are to supply their own equipment as
well as their choice of bait. They must use a conventional
rod and reel and only one rod per child. From 11:15AM.
to 11:45AM the children will be given lunch. Following lunch, there will be the presentation of the trophies
and the raffle. The raffle has always been a big part of
the Derby. Local businesses and the Arrowhead Community have given in the past and every child participating has been given a prize. Donations of new or gently
used fishing equipment are needed for the raffle and may
be dropped off at the Lodge. The Anglers would like to
thank the community for past and future support.

Tips on Boating & Fishing
Regulations
The lakes and streams located on
Arrowhead Lake property are considered
Commonwealth waters and fall under the
jurisdiction of the Pennsylvania Fish &
Boat Commission. The monitoring and
enforcement of state regulations are the
responsibility of the Pennsylvania Fish &
Boat Commission’s Waterways Conservation Officers with the Officers having
unlimited legal access to the Association’s
property. Historically, the Conservation
Officers spend a considerable amount of
time and effort in monitoring the waterways of ALCA.
To assist our residents and visitors in complying with the state regulations for boating and fishing, ALCA is
offering some of the basic regulations for
fishing and boating on Commonwealth
waters. A detailed explanation of the
regulations can be obtained by visiting
the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat website at:
www.fish.state.pa.us.
Boating Regulations
All boats must have US Coast Guard
approved wearable (types I, II, III and V)
personal floatation devices (PFDs) on board
for each person in the appropriate sizes
(Adult, child). Types I, II, III and V Boat
cushions are no longer considered acceptable
floatation devices. In addition to wearable
PFDs, boats 16 feet and over must have a
Type IV throw-able floatation device on
board. A throw-able device may not be used
as a substitute for a wearable device. Children
12 years of age or younger, when underway
on any boat 20 feet or less in length and on
all canoes, kayaks, paddle boats and drifting
boats are required to wear a PFD.Boaters are
required, by law, to wear PFDs on boats less
16 feet in length or any canoe or kayak during the cold weather months from November 1 through April 30. This requirement is
intended to protect boaters from the dangers
of cold water shock if they fall into the water.
ALCA rules and regulations allow
the use of an electric trolling motor (no gas
motors) and they are considered motorboats.

Fishing Regulations
Any person 16 years or older
is required to possess a valid Pennsylvania fishing license while fishing. An
adult may assist a child of 12 years and
under in the fishing without possessing
a license. The adult may cast or retrieve a
line for the child, bait, net, untangle lines
and remove fish from the hook, provided
that the adult is within arm’s reach and is
actively fishing with the child. An adult
is required to possess a fishing license if
they intend to set the hook for the child.
A current Pennsylvania trout/
salmon permit is required to fish for trout
or salmon in Pennsylvania waters. An angler “fishes for trout or salmon” when he
or she: Takes kills or possesses, while in
the act of fishing, a trout or salmon from

Summer is just around the corner, and Camp Koda is back again for this 2014 season. Camp Koda
is a children’s day camp that takes place from 10AM to 2PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays,
and Fridays between June 30 and August 15. THAT’S RIGHT, WE HAVE ADDED ONE
ADDITIONAL DAY PER WEEK AND A WHOLE ADDITIONAL WEEK!
Thanks to the request of many parents, and the love of the campers, we have extended the dates of
Camp Koda to ensure that everyone can have an amazing summer experience with us!
Camp Koda is a place where campers will follow the motto “Friendship. Learn it. Live it. Love it.”
Campers will learn, through games and activities what it means to be a good friend to someone.
Campers will form friendships through Camp Koda that will carry through the summer. While
doing this, campers will have fun!
When at the clubhouse, campers will play on the playground, and begin to interact with other
campers. The campers will then play games like kickball, baseball, cross my sea, and soccer, where
they will be able to learn the value of teamwork, and be able to be a part of a team. Campers will
also get the opportunity to interact and learn from the example of their counselors.
Other than learning the values of friendship and teamwork, campers will be able to explore and
expand their horizons through meeting new people, going on hikes, and learning new things from
myself and the counselors. Campers will learn science experiments throughout the summer, and
will also learn to make homemade ice cream.

Every day, the campers will make a craft, and they will even participate in a large group
craft that will encompass every camper throughout the summer. This project usually
takes the form of a flag or a banner. Campers will also have the opportunity to create
tie dye t-shirts toward the end of the summer that they will wear to an end of season
barbecue on the last day of Camp Koda.
Camp Koda provides campers with the opportunity to learn and grow as well as forge
new friendships. We hope to see many of the campers from last season back, and hope
to welcome some new campers this season. We cannot wait for the summer to start, and
we hope you are just as excited as we are.
Pick up your sign up packets at the Lodge, and we hope to see you at Camp Koda!
