Downtown Phoenix is full of history, art
and wonder. Explore a few of our Urban
Core’s many gems using this list and our
map or ask an Ambassador for a tour.
“THE WORLD
IN OUR HANDS”
MURAL R9
Nestled in the alleyway
between the Renaissance
Phoenix Downtown Hotel
and the Professional
Building, this mural was
painted in one day—starting
at 5:30 a.m.—by local artist
Hugo Medina in 2013.
LITTLE LENDING
LIBRARIES
Discover your new favorite
novel, novella or biography
at one of several colorful
birdhouses dotted around
Downtown. Both locals
and visitors alike have
contributed to these
libraries, which you can
find at the Downtown Info
Center (R8), Civic Space
Park (N8), Heritage &
Science Park (R15), and
Phoenix Public Market (L9).
HERITAGE &
SCIENCE PARK
R15
With lush, green grass and
several historic bungalows
and carriage houses, this
Downtown park is home to
award-winning restaurants
and museums including
the Victorian-style Rosson
House, built in 1895, and the
Arizona Science Center.

History
PROFESSIONAL
BUILDING R9
Billed as the “finest and
most complete medical
center in the Southwest,”
this limestone sheathed,
1931-built building was
the first centrally located
medical building of its kind
in Phoenix. It was home to
the Valley National Bank for
over 40 years. The building
will be transformed into a
Hilton Garden Inn, with a
scheduled opening in 2015.
LUHRS
BUILDING
U8
This building was considered
the largest commercial/
office building between El
Paso and Los Angeles when
it was completed in 1924.
Big things are happening
to Luhrs with the recent
opening of the speakeasystyle lounge, Bitter &
Twisted Cocktail Parlour,
and plans for two hotels
and a café.
NIGHT BLOOMING
GARDEN R11
Created by Beliz Brother
in 2006. The runway lights
transform the Convention
Center campus into a
colorful light display
at night.

Meet Us
At the DTPHX Engagement Lab!
We’re thinking up big ideas and collaborating
on major projects in Downtown Phoenix—
and you’re invited to join the fun.
O
pen Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.,
the DTPHX Engagement Lab is a public/private
partnership between Downtown Phoenix, Inc., and
Arizona Center designed to connect a wide variety
of city users—residents, employees, tourists, conventioneers and
students—to the Downtown experience.
A new space activation in the Shops at Arizona Center (north
adjacent to Starbucks), the Lab is stock full of bright colored
chairs, craft paper, stencils, and creatives who are hard at work
building the Downtown they want.
Come by and we’ll give you a local’s perspective on how to best
delve into the city, whether that’s unveiling locals-approved bars
and restaurants, connecting you with a community organization,
or giving you the tools to becoming a Downtowner yourself.
The Lab is a community gathering place—a front porch—to
America’s sixth-largest city where friends are made and ideas are
shared. Our Downtown is getting awesome and this is one more
place where awesome happens.
Please stop by and say hello. If you’re a visitor, tell us your
impressions of our city. If you’re a student, tell us how we can
improve your experience. If you’re passionate about Downtown
and want to see it reach its full potential, let us put you to work!
