Report for the period from 19th February 2016 to 18th May 2016
1. This time period is marked by the full swing of academic, cultural and other co-curricular activities
of our Vidyalaya-life.
2. Vidyarthi Vrata was held on 21st February, Sunday for the newly admitted class V boys in order to
initiate them into our Vidyalaya life amidst the presence of their guardians, monks, brahmacharies,
teachers, housemasters and others.
3. Foundation classes and additional classes for various science subjects started from 22nd February for
the boys of class VIII, IX and X respectively.
4. Classes for class XII started from 17th March, 2016.
5. Examinations:
a) The annual examination of class XI was held from 15.02.2016 to 27.02.2016 and the practical
examinations from 14th to 16th March, 2016 respectively.
b) First monthly examination for the boys of V to
X were held from 9th March to 12th March,
2016.
c) Second monthly Examination for the boys of
V to X was held from 27th April to 29th April
2016.
d) First Assessment Examination for Foundation
course and additional course for the boys of
VIII to X were held from 7th May, 2016 to 14th
May, 2016.
e) Performance in the Secondary and Higher
Secondary Examinations:
The performance of our students in the school final examinations has always been brilliant.
Every year more than one hundred boys appear at the Madhyamik Pariksha and achieve hundred
percent success. Manytimes, our students secure ranks in order of merit. This year in the
Madhyamik Examination, one student secured 9th rank in the state.
f) Vidyalaya students also performed brilliantly in Higher Secondary Examination securing 6 th, 7th,
8th & 10th ranks in the state.
g) The Admission Test for outside students for class XI was held on 18th May 2016. In all, 772
candidates appeared in the examination.
6. Students Achievements:a) In 6th SOF English Olympiad, 15 boys from classes VI to X received gifts and certificates.
b) Three boys of class VIII in 2015 qualified for National - means - Cum Merit Scholarship
examination.

c) 9 students of our school have been selected for KVPY Fellowship 2015 – 2016. It is a
scholarship programme funded by the Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India
aimed at encouraging students to take up research careers in the areas of basic sciences,

d) 43 boys of class XII have qualified for appearing in JEE (Advanced) – 2016.
e) Soumen Ghosh of class XII has been selected as one of the 5 Mehta Fellowship
awardees from India and will participate in the PROMYS (Program in
Mathematics for Young Scientists) to be held from June 1 to 10, 2016 at
Boston University.
f) Sayan De of class XII has been selected for OCSC (Orientation cum selection
camp) in Biology (2016) to be held from June 1 to 10, 2016 at Homi Bhabha
Centre for Science & Education on the basis of his performance at Indian National Biology
Olympiad.
7. Celebrations :a) On 7th March 2016, Vidyalaya celebrated Shivaratri. Special Puja of Lord Shiva was performed
at the Assembly Hall. Boys from both Junior section
and Senior Section offered water and participated in
Bhajans, Arati etc. on the Shivalinga. More than 400
students fasted on this occasion, some even without
taking a drop of water. After puja, all were fed with
sumptuous Prasad.
b)
Ramakrishna Jayanti: The 181st
Janmatithi of Bhagawan Sri Ramakrishna Deva was
celebrated on March 10 (Thursday) with due solemnity.
A colourful procession of students and staff of the
Ashrama institutions went round the Ashrama and
adjoining areas including Ashrama’s Acharyapalli. A
meeting was then held at Vivekananda Centenary Hall where speakers discussed the holy life and
teachings of the Great Master. Speech, songs and reading from Sri Ramakrishna Punthi formed
part of the programme. Revered Swami Chetasanandaji Maharaj released Vidyalaya magazine
(Phalguni, 2015). Swami Sarvaganandaji Maharaj presided over the function.
c) On March 2, 2016 at Aban Udyan, the Prize Giving
Ceremony for this year’s Annual Exhibition was held
and respected Secretary Maharaj, Headmaster
Maharaj, other monastic members, teachers and staff
were there.

d) On 23rd March, 2016, Vidyalaya remained closed for celebrating Dolyatra. Vidyalaya Boys
enjoyed the day, by smearing themselves with colourful ‘Abir’ with gay abandon.
e) On 8th May morning Rabindra Jayanti celebration was held at the V. C. Hall. The renowned
Bengali writer, Mr. Sirshendu Mukherjee graced the occasion. In the evening at the senior
section Assembly Hall – the class wise dramas based on Rabindranath Tagore’s works were
staged.

Junior boys also organized Bhavana wise program to
celebrate the poet’s birthday in their assembly hall.
f)
The 9th May, was the auspicious day of
‘Akshaya Tritiya’ and the 74th Ashrama Foundation Day was
observed amidst the presence of all members of the Vidyalaya
family. Sri Shankarlal Bhattacharya, distinguished writer,
orator and an alumnus of Vidyalaya (1965 batch) delivered
Swami Lokeswarananda Memorial lecture. Special puja and Mangalarati were performed. The
Prasad was served to all after the function.

9. Educational Excursions:
a)
Students of class VI accompanied by staff and monks
visited places of interest in and around Kolkata on 26th February,
2016.
b)
An educational tour to holy places like Kamarpukur
and Joyrambati with the historical place Bishnupur was conducted
for the boys of class VII on 18th & 19th March, 2016.
c)
Students of class XI went on an exciting educational
tour to Vishakhapatnam and Araku Valley from 9th March to 13th
March, 2016.
10. Seminars and workshops:
a) Two teachers of English department Mr. Sanjoy Mukherjee & Mr. Chiranjib Halder participated
in a Seminar cum workshop – organized by W.B.B.S.E. at Institute of English on 17th & 18th
March, 2016.

b) Sri Rishiraj Das Gupta (92 batch) and a professional career consultant conducted a career
counseling session for class XII boys on 5th May 2016.
11. Games and Sports:In this time period, we witnessed a number of friendly
Cricket matches – played at our play ground and Ashrama
stadium. The matches created great excitement and were
enjoyed by one and all.
a) On 27th February, a friendly cricket match was played
between

Kolkata Sansad and
Ashrama
Vidyalaya
Team and the match was won by Vidyalaya team.
b) Inter class cricket tournament 2016 was organised on 19th
& 20th March, 2016 and the prizes were sponsored by 1990 M.P.
batch students in memory of their deceased batch mates.
c) On 25th March, 2016 a friendly cricket match was played
by school staff and Vidyalaya students (VIII – X) and the staff
team registered a historical win and all enjoyed the game very
much.
d) On 26th March, a friendly cricket match was played between Garia Srirampur Kalyan Samiti and
Ashrama Vidyalaya team. Vidyalaya team was defeated.
e) On 9th April, we witnessed another interesting cricket match between School Education Department,
captained by Sri Arnab Roy, I.A.S. Principal Secretary and Vidyalaya Staff team, captained by Mr.
Bankim Mahato. Vidyalaya team won the prestigious battle thanks to the all round performance of
Sri Chandramani Kumar.
f) On 14th April, 2016, a friendly cricket match was
organized between the boys of H.S. section and
Madhyamik section. Madhyamik Section won the
battle.
g) The Badminton Tournament 2016 was held at Junior
Section.

h) A friendly football match between Jhargram EMRS team and
R.K.M. Vidyalaya team was played on 2nd May. The match ended in
a 1 – 1 draw. Another match between our B team and EMRS was
played on 3rd May. EMRS won the match by a solitary goal. All
enjoyed both the matches.
12. Visitors:a) From 21st March to 28th March 2016, Revered Srimat Swami Smarananandaji Maharaj, VicePresident of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission stayed in the campus.
13. Publications:
a) Our Vidyalaya Magazine ‘Phalguni’ was published on 10th March and this Annual Magazine is
just a pot of creativity – expressed in Bengali, English, Sanskrit and Hindi. The highly artistic
paintings in it really deserve appreciation.

14. Miscellaneous:a) On 22nd March, 72 KWp Grid – connected Rooftop
Solar Power plant at our Vidyalaya was inaugurated by
Smt. Varsha Purandare, M.D. & C.E.O, SBI Capital
Market Limited and after inauguration, a meeting was
held at the Mango grove.
b)
A
meeting
with
the
guardians of classes
VIII and IX was held
on 27th March, 2016 and with the guardians of VI & VII on 24th
April 2016.
c)
On 25th March, 2016, a popular talk on “Science
of Meteorology and Weather forecasting” was delivered by
Dr. Gokul Chandra Debnath, Deputy Director of Regional
Meteorological Centre, Kolkata in the senior section.
d)
On 14th April, 2016 evening at V.C. Hall, boys
and others enjoyed the Mime show by Ranen Chakraborty and Magic Show by Amit Kumar of
Indrajal Magic Society.
e) A book fair was held at our Senior Section from
14th to 16th April, 2016 and it was enjoyed and
visited by our boys & staff. Boys purchased books
worth more than 5 lakhs in these 3 days.
f) Sri Arjan Basu Roy, Secretary of Nature Mates, a
NGO engaged in habitat conservation delivered an
interactive talk on ‘Bio Diversity’ in the Junior
Section on 30th April, 2016. The homely speech
accompanied by breathtaking visuals of the nature
world captivated the listeners and kindled in them
love for nature and all living beings.
g)
A general Health Check-up camp for staff at
the Vidyalaya Sr. Section Assembly Hall was held on 23rd
April, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
h)
On 12th May, 2016, Dr. Meghnad Saha
Centre of Astronomy and Digital Library were inaugurated
by Sri Hridyesh Mohan (IAS) (Principal-Secretary,
Technical Education and
Training, Govt of W.B.).
A short meeting was held
at Room – 46 after the inauguration.
i) A health screening camp was held for class V boys on 8th and
13th May 2016. Dental, Eye and Skin doctors screened all the
students.
15. Vidyalaya is closed for summer vacation from 16th May 2016 to
11th June 2016.
