If It weren’t
for online video games,
Sarah Schurkamp and
Taylor Christman never
would have met. The
day they began
chatting while playing
the game World of Warcraft
ended up as
the start to a relationship
thousands of miles apart.
After three
months of getting to know
each other, Taylor flew
to Washington
to meet Sarah to see if
their feelings would hold
up to the test of
reality. Of course, the feelings
were only amplified and
after more
trips back and forth they
decided to settle in the
Lehigh Valley to
begin their lives together.
A couple of years later while
Sarah’s parents were visiting,
they
planned to all go out for
dinner. Tyler had always
had a knack for
making rings out straw wrappers
so Sarah paid no attention
to him
during their outing while
he pretended to make a
paper ring. At the
end of the meal, Taylor revealed
the ring and asked Sarah
to marry
him. “At first, I thought he
was kidding and had another
paper ring
until I realized this paper
ring was much bigger
and something
sparkly was peeking out
under the paper,” she remembers.
One year later they were
married at Monterre Vineyards,
the
perfect outdoor venue for
this nature-loving, traditional
couple. “I
wanted an elegant wedding
with an earthy, vintage
feel.
The cozy,
rustic interior was the perfect
balance with the vibrant
greenery of
the grapevines and surrounding
trees for our wedding site,”
Sarah
says. Most items were
handmade by the bride
and the mothers
and sisters in both families.
The floral centerpieces and
bouquets,
decorative buntings, favors,
the guestbook and even
a special dessert table were all handmade
with love. ■
