“I am thoroughly impressed with XP Technology by American Eagle. They are way
more efficient than other instruments due to not having to sharpen during a procedure
and they have continued to remain sharp after many uses! They are a perfect
combination of ergonomics and time savers when it comes to instrumentation. I highly
recommend them to all hygienists and I look forward to having them in my cassettes!”

“The XP instruments are absolutely the best instruments I’ve ever used. Everything—
from the light weight, non-slip handle to the sharpest blade I’ve ever come across—
made the appointment with my patient faster and more efficient. The XP instruments
removed even the smallest pieces of plaque from hard-to-reach areas on the teeth, so
I have no doubt I was providing the highest quality of instrumentation for my patient.”

“I am very impressed with XP Technology. I scale with a very light hand and have
been doing so for 35 years. The XP lets me clean the root surfaces with a gentle
touch and with more accuracy. My hands are strong but I appreciate how much
easier it is to remove calculus. The Scandette saves time. My patients are very
pleased with their hygiene appointments. They tell me how they have no sensitivity
after their cleaning. This is huge! I love the American Eagle instruments.”
– Joanne Schmidt, RDH

of American Dental Manufacturing, a family-founded dental hand instrument company that made its mark by providing high quality, durable
instruments to the dental profession. Through hard work, determination, and Montana pride, the company became a well known and respected
manufacturer within the dental industry. The company grew to about 75 employees, many of whom forged careers to become some of the
dental industry’s best journeymen instrument makers and sharpeners. American Dental was “the” quality dental instrument company.
In 1989, a competitor purchased American Dental Manufacturing and subsequently closed its doors in 1990. Rather than follow the

engineering experience, unequaled skill, a goal to produce the highest quality dental instruments, and a “lead-not-follow” philosophy, American
Eagle Instruments became reality.

Exceptional Quality
XP Technology™ is a patented surface engineering process. This technology is a proprietary
process in which the metallurgical composition of the instrument’s surface is enhanced,
giving it the properties of a much more durable material. This process allows us to put a
much sharper edge onto a thinner blade, eliminating the time-consuming and imperfect
process of sharpening your instruments.
Since 1992, American Eagle Instruments has been a leader in providing the dental industry with the hardest
and sharpest right-out-of-the-package stainless steel curettes and scalers. AEI has manufactured excellence for
over 20 years with our perfection of heat and cryogenics treatments for our Talon Tough™ line of stainless steel
instruments. These proprietary processes enable the clinician to experience a noticeable difference in edge
retention. Additionally, as a fully integrated manufacturing facility, we are able to
maintain the highest quality standards from raw materials to the finished product. American Eagle Instruments stands behind our entire product offering with
our 100% customer satisfaction guarantee.

Truly a double Gracey design, these instruments combine the best features of Gracey and Universal curettes.
Double Graceys™ have rounded toes and two (2) cutting edges. Advantages of using Double Graceys™ include
easy adaptation to mesial and distal surfaces, as well as buccal and lingual surfaces, without switching or
repositioning the instrument. The Mini versions allow easier access into deeper pockets, tighter interproximal
areas, and furcations. All Double Graceys™ are sharpen-free with American Eagle Instruments’ patented

I used to use other brands but I felt that I had to sharpen them more often.
I tried American Eagle’s Talon Tough and was amazed at the quality. Talon
Tough starts sharp and stays just as sharp through repeated uses; they are
strong, sharp, and light-weight instruments. I love them.

College 16L
Serr ated Locking
To extend the life of your color probe, it is best to avoid ultrasonic cleaning which
may effect the bond of the color markings to the stainless steel. We recommend
hand cleaning the tip with mild liquid soap prior to sterilization. During
sterilization, avoid temperatures in excess of 300ºF/150ºC, at which point
your color probe markings risk becoming discolored.

Dr. Jackson’s instrument series is designed specially for posterior composite placement. The rounded-end
pluggers with thin opposing blades are for rapid packing, pressing and shaping. The unique RJ 3 instrument
offers two short, very thin blades that allow for precise final occlusal contouring, while the G4-5 provides
offset blades for final sculpting of the proximal and occlusal areas. All are surface engineered with AEI’s
patented XP Technology™, providing composite instruments with a superior smooth surface.

XP Technology™ is a patented surface engineering process. This technology is a proprietary process in
which the metallurgical composition of the instrument’s surface is enhanced, giving it the properties
of a much more durable material. This patented process allows us to create a super smooth surface,
offering composite instruments with properties that boast no sticking or pull back.

I developed these instruments to better serve my minimally

too big to accommodate small laser preparations. These
instruments are invaluable to those of us who practice

OPTIMUM EFFICIENCY
Each Piezo tip comes with a convenient ‘wear indicator card’
to measure the amount of wear your tip has endured. When
a 0.5mm (half millimeter) wear is indicated, the tip should
be replaced.
Competition/Standard
Tip
Infinitip™
tip wear
Most Piezo tips wear to
two millimeters (2.0mm)
before replacement is
recommended. At this
point, tip efficiency has
been sacrificed 50%.
XP Technology™
significantly decelerates tip
wear; tips will only wear a
half-millimeter (0.5mm)
during their useful lifetime,
with no loss of efficiency.
Efficiency loss results in:
• Increased patient distress and pain
• Practitioner discomfort
• Longer patient visits
• Lost revenue
• Reduced deposit removal
Infinitips™ provide:
• Greater patient comfort
• Reduced operator hand
fatigue
• More efficient patient
visits
• Shorter treatment time
REVOLUTIONARY
American Eagle Instruments® has created
another industry revolution - Infinitip™;
ultrasonic tips manufactured with XP
Technology™. Infinitips™ are made from
state-of-the-art “super alloys”, and treated
with a unique surface modification technique
using nanotechnology. Infinitips™ are
significantly harder than calculus, or even the
tooth’s enamel, resulting in a longevity that is
unmatched in the industry.

INSTRUMENT CARE & MAINTENANCE
XP TECHNOLOGY™ CARE & MAINTENANCE
The following instrument maintenance recommendations are general in nature, and should be applicable to most items included
within our catalog. In addition, AEI recommends that cleaning/sterilization processes not combine dissimilar metals. Use only
compatible, neutral solutions, and follow all cleaning/sterilization unit manufacturer’s recommendations.
American Eagle Instruments (AEI) has designed and manufactured XP Technology™ instruments to be used repeatedly without
sharpening, while retaining their original shape and design for the useful life of the instrument. Although XP instruments can be
cleaned and sterilized as any stainless steel instrument, the following suggestions will add longevity and increased performance to
your XP Technology™ instruments.
Rinsing
•Rinse thoroughly with warm water.
•We recommend using demineralized water for rinsing; not tap water
(tap water may contain elements detrimental to the instrument).
Cleaning
•Stubborn impurities and debris should be manually removed with a soft brush.
•Clean instruments manually, in an ultrasonic cleaning unit, or washer disinfector (as per unit manufacturer’s instructions).
•Place instruments into cassettes prior to cleaning (do not overload cassettes).
Drying
Technique
•Do practice care as these instruments have a sharper edge on a thinner blade.
•Do lightly scale away calculus with 4-6 strokes.
•Avoid fracturing away calculus.
•Avoid use on margins, overhangs, amalgam and composite.
Care
•Do use cassettes for cleaning and storage.
•Do periodically test for sharpness with an AEI test stick.
(American Eagle product code: AESASTS)
•DRY THOROUGHLY after cleaning and prior to sterilization.
Lubrication
Cleaning
•Do promptly place instruments in ultrasonic cleaner.
Standard recommended cleaning cycle is 20 minutes
• Lubricate hinged instruments after rinsing and before sterilization.
•Do separate XP Technology™ instruments from all other instruments
when cleaning/sterilizing. AEI recommends not combining dissimilar metals.
Sterilizing
•Autoclaving
•Place clean, dry, properly packed instruments into the autoclave.
•Follow the unit manufacturer’s recommendations for sterilization.
Inspection
•After instrument care and maintenance, thoroughly inspect instruments for any remaining debris or damage prior to use.
For more extensive care and specific instructions please visit our website at www.am-eagle.com.

•Do always rinse with demineralized water after ultrasonic cleaning.
•Do dry instruments before sterilization.
•Avoid use of Chlorine, Chloride, NaCl (Sodium Chloride), and Fluoride based solutions.
Sterilization
•Do use autoclave sterilization and strictly follow unit manufacturer’s recommendations.
•Do allow for complete drying cycle.
Storing
•Do thoroughly dry before storing.

IMPLANT INSTRUMENT CARE & MAINTENANCE

INSTRUMENT MAINTENANCE
OVS™ CASSETTES
Made from medical grade titanium, these Implant Instruments are designed to not scratch or damage titanium implants and are
100% made in the USA. American Eagle Instruments (AEI) unique patterns include scalers with rounded toes, enabling safe access to
sub-gingival areas. Although AEI’s Implant Instruments can be cleaned and sterilized as any stainless steel instrument, below are our
guidelines for added longevity of your Implant Instruments. Always follow implant manufacturer’s maintenance recommendations for
implant care.
OVS™ CASSETTES
Our OVS (Open Ventilation System)
Instrument Cassettes are manufactured to
the highest quality. The double hinge design
allows for easier visibility of instruments,
while offering space savings within the
tray. Our cassettes are made from a very
durable stainless steel and have a unique
flow-through design that allows maximum
circulation for efficient ultrasonic cleaning.
Our cassettes are equipped with sturdy
instrument racks that keep instruments in
place during sterilization. They also
feature a push button latch for easy open &
close operation.
Technique
•Do start with an exploratory scaling stroke to detect calculus and disrupt biofilms.
•Do lightly scale-away calculus.
•Do only use on implant surfaces.
•Avoid use on margins, amalgam, cement, overhangs, and composite.
Care
•Do use cassettes for cleaning and storage.
•Do periodically test for sharpness with an AEI test stick.
(American Eagle product code: AESASTS)
•Do use a diamond stone for sharpening your Implant Instruments.

CASSETTE ADVANTAGES
To maintain optimal cutting edges on your instruments, AEI
recommends routine sharpness testing by use of a test stick.
An American Eagle cassette provides the practitioner with the following
advantages:
To test for sharpness, simply stroke the test stick as you
would during use. If the instrument “grabs” it is sharp; if it
does not it should be resharpened or discarded.
• Arrival at chair side of sterile and organized set-ups ready for
immediate use.
• Reduction of instrument processing time.
• Reduction of instrument damage and replacement costs.
• Allows for easier training of new office staff.
• Easy color coding of practitioner set-ups.
American Eagle cassettes bring together the crucial elements of cleaning,
sterilization, storage, and organization of instruments in one integrated
program. The key benefit of this system is the provision of a truly
disciplined approach to infectious disease control. At the same time,
achieving greater efficiency chair side, as well as in the daily care and
management of instruments.

1. Using the 10x magnification loupe, inspect
cutting edges for defects.
2. Pick your method, sharpen your instrument,
and test (using the test stick).
3. Inspect again by using the magnification loupe
for proper angle, edge contour, and sharpness
(a sharp edge will not reflect light).
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3. Make adjustments as
needed until the desired edge is achieved.
5. Always check your instruments to maintain
sharpness. We recommend a new instrument
be kept for comparison.

METHOD 1
The edge is visible while the stone
is moved at the correct angulation,
producing a sharp edge.
METHOD 2
This method creates less clinician
fatigue. However, maintaining the
correct angle on the lateral edge
may be more difficult, due to the
inability to physically see the edge
while moving the instrument.
