December was a month to remember! The 2015 Poinsettia Ball was chaired by Kelli Grant, and was co-chaired by
Sally Ball and Donna Gilger. Don and Beverly Pace served as
honorary chairs and were thanked for their service and dedication to Friends of Hospice for many years. The
ballroom was transformed into a poinsettia wonderland with
sparkling poinsettia arrangements adorning each table, outlining the ballroom and the lobby. Festive wreaths and garland decorated the lobby and bandstand. Friends and their
guests enjoyed a lovely meal and dancing the night away to
the lively Rick Cavender Band. I give accolades to each committee member that made this a very successful ball.
The 30th Poinsettia Sale was very successful. I would like
to thank Ginger Cave, the drivers and other helpers for
making this another memorable event. Another big thank
you goes to Sherry Satel and Betty Ferrell for chairing the
Angel Tree project. There were enough donors to have two
trees at Sister Mary Hospice Center.
Last year ended with a check presentation of $100,000 to
CHRISTUS VNA Hospice for uninsured patients! Each one of
you had a part in raising funds for these patients and I send
my warmest thanks and appreciation.
Our annual Valentine Luncheon, Style Show and silent
auction is February 13. The event is chaired by Mary Lou
Vielock and Janet Hughes with the auction chaired by
Beverly Pace. A delicious meal will be served and dazzling
fashions from Julian Gold will be modeled by our own mem-

bers.
With Beverly Pace’s leadership, the auction
should be very successful with all the items donated by
our membership and supportive vendors. Plan to attend
this “warm hearted” event.
The Spring Lecture Luncheon will be chaired by Anne
Ownby and the lecture will be given by our own
founding member Lynn Hamby.
This event will be
April 7, at the San Antonio Country Club. The
educational luncheon fulfills a part of our mission, to increase community awareness of hospice. Make plans to
attend!
On May 3rd, we will, once again, be participating in

and Damon Ball. Excellent leadership of the Poinsettia Ball
Committee.
The Big Give. This is a 24 hour, online event of giving to
the non-profit organization of your choice. The Big Give
is such an easy and effective way to make donations.
Additionally, our Annual Meeting/Spring Party will be
Tuesday, May 10th, at the home of Suzanne Word.
