Introduction Welcome to the world of kigurumi cosplay. If you are reading this, then you must be interested in the art of kigurumi cosplay. As you may know, certain fashion exposes some cleavage. This tutorial is a guide to how a kigurumi cosplayer can produce cleavage that look and feel natural. I hope that this will help you in your pursuit to becoming a more attractive kigurumi cosplayer. On the 19th November 2007, I first revealed the prototype of the bust line technique to the kigurumi community. Then it was called “visible bust line effect”. And it was use to accentuate the cleavage on Meer Campbell’s costume instead of on the bare skin. I am more than willing to share the method, and I wrote this guide in effort to cover this topic. Much of the content in this document is brought forward from the first version of the bustline technique as there is still much relevance in them. However, in this tutorial, I will be teaching you an enhanced version of the original bustline technique which is also its third iteration, the bustline technique v3 (In short BTv3). BTv3 is: 






Very affordable. Materials easily obtainable. Will works on any bodysuit. Does not require sewing or special equipment. Easy to modify and replace. Non‐permanent and Non‐damaging to the bodysuit. Offer superb realism in appearance and feel. Myth about the kigurumi cosplay bodysuit The common belief is that I sell a specially made bodysuit that comes with built in breasts. The fact is, the bodysuits I make are shaped just like regular bodysuits. The features of bodysuits I make include: 






Fully covered. Open eyes/face. Separate toes. Seamless outside leggings. High quality swimsuit material. Back up zipper head. Matching figurine skin colour. Non shiny material. Find them in my store at: Store.kigcos.com As you can see from the picture, there is nothing special in the chest area of the suits. In fact, the bust line technique not only works on bodysuits. You can use it to make any form of clothing exude cleavage. I usually use the bust line technique on tight fitting costumes such as Meer Campbell’s bodysuit or Asuka Langley’s plugsuit. The technique only works when portraying a cosplay in tight fitting clothes as cleavage will look out of place on loose clothes. The fabric of the costume will also affect the effectiveness of the bust line technique. It the fabric is too rigid, the cleavage will be less pronounced. I shall talk more on that shortly. Preparations for the bust line technique So now that we understand that the technique will work regardless of the bodysuit. I shall begin the tutorial. Materials which you will need 1. Large balloons. $3.00 for 1 Choose large balloons ranging from 20” to 40”. You will want each balloon to be roughly the size of your busts when it is “JUST” full. More will be discussed in the next section. 2. Fishing line. $5.00 for 300m Pick a transparent fishing line which can withstand some decent weight. It does not need to be any special brand of make. The one in the picture is what I use. 3. Suction cups. $2.00 for 6 Any regular suction cup from a convenience store will do. They are optional, but recommended. Preparing your materials. 1. Balloons. Fill your balloons with normal tap water. Make sure that the balloons are minimally stretched. Tie the opening up and cut away the excess as shown. This is so that they will retain the fluidity and texture of real breasts. That is the reason why you buy them at the size you want your breasts to be when “just” full. If you want larger breasts, just fill it bigger. Water is the most ideal filling for the following reasons:  If it spills, it is just water it’s clean and it is literally free.  Water makes the breasts extremely fluid and bouncy.  Any amount can be added/removed easily. Another reason why you do not fill it beyond “just” full is so that it remains tough and will not burst. To contrary belief, unstretched water balloons are highly resistant to bursting. Fill a large balloon to “just” full or stretched just slightly, and try to break it by dropping it into your bathtub from ceiling height. It should not break. Now try and see what it takes for you to break it. Rest assure when in kigurumi cosplay, your body will not usually be exposed to those forces. 2. Fishing Line. The bust line technique can pretty much be achieve using just this one item, the fishing line. Balloons are optional if you already have breasts and suction cups are optional if you do not wish to show nipples. the bust line technique. I will now show you what to do with it. Installing the bustline technique First, pull out about 2 to 3 metres of the finish line. The length should be more than enough to go around your body twice. **The trick to the bustline technique v3 is simply that the fishing line is both over and under the suit at certain locations.** In order to do that, first we will need to cut the fishing line in a special manner as shown in the diagram below. Cut the fishing line in such a way that the cut is slanted. This will turn the fishing line into a needle. In this form, the fishing line will be able to go through your bodysuit with no effort at all. Do not be worried that the fishing line may be sharp, it is still too soft and will not hurt you. After all, once you’re done, you will be trimming off the excess so the needle ends will not stay anyway. Step 1: You can do this either while wearing or not wearing the suit. The purple line represents the fishing line. From your back, insert the line through the suit to the front at the locations indicated by the arrows. Those locations would be relative to you, on either sides of the end of each breast and just before the lowest point of your breasts I find works best. From the side, it should look something like the next picture. Side view, the line stays under the suit around your back and comes out into the front at the ends of where the side of your breasts end. It may take a few trial and errors until you find the right spot, but it shouldn’t matter too much as long as its within the vicinity of your breasts as indicated in the picture above. Step 2: You may want to loosen the suit a little so that you can do these steps, the illustration is only a representation. Now on to the front, bring the two ends of the line to the middle and thread them back inside the suit. Make sure you leave some space in between where the two line re‐enter the suit so that it will not strain the suit too much and show a more realistic cleavage. Let the line pass beneath the suit all the way to the side of the neck and then let it come back out again. This step is necessary so that it can help you pull the suit down since the breast will raise the suit off you’re your collar a little. Pay attention to the picture below. Through trial and error, I have found that the locations where the line needs to be over or under the suit for a good cleavage is around the 3/4 breast height position. Also, make sure that you have a gap in between the re‐entry locations of the lines of around 1cm ‐ 2 cm apart. Step 3: The next step is to tie the ends of the lines together to form a closed loop. Any knot you want is fine, I just recommend a standard dead knot for simplicity sake. Before you tie the knot, it will be a good idea to gauge how much slack you will need to tie it off. I usually just tie a dead knot first which is usually still loose, then use that as a starting point to estimate how much smaller I will need to tie it off. There are no particular knots you need to use, I just use a regular dead knot that ties the two ends together. of a reef knot below you can use that. If its too loose, just take the excess and tie a knot back on itself. Step 4: So now, to apply the bustline technique. When the suit is just worn, this is how the lines should look like. Step 4.3: After that, gently pull the loop over your head and let it come to rest behind your neck. At this point the line should very fairly tight and suspending your breasts making then stand out. Do some trial and errors, adjust the breast and suit a little so that there are no creases and over stretched marks. 3. Suction cups. Suction cups are an optional item, they are used to make the protruding nipple effect, therefore, it is not always necessary. The suction cups you buy probably look something like what you see on the left. You just need two of them, we will now make the nipples. Remove any other foreign objects from the suction cup. We just need to use the rubber cups. Now cut away some of the tip of the suction cup. From observation over some time, the nipples with look too long even under tight clothing is unrealistic and can look very unnatural. Many observant people can straight away tell that the nipples are fake. Cutting short the head will still produce the hard nipple effect, while at the same time being more convincing. Thereafter, it should look something like this. Depending on the suction cup which you buy, you may need to trim them off slightly differently. Nevertheless, the end result should look something like the picture on the left. The easiest way to trim off the rubber top is to slice it with a pen knife or similar. Always be extra careful when using a sharp tool. With that, all the equipment we need for the bust line technique is set and we can start using them in kigurumi cosplay! Using the suction cups If you remember the suction cups you modified a while ago, those can be put into use now. The time to do it is the same time when you’re inserting the balloons into your bodysuit. Place the suction cups over where your nipples should be, and make sure you check the mirror carefully to make sure that the nipples are in the correct position. Refer to pictures of the body’s anatomy if you are not sure. Then on, proceed with wearing the loop around your body as per normal as shown in the description earlier. The result of that will be super realistic looking breasts with nipples. And these nipples are hard enough to show through most clothing which you might wear over them. Practice a little with the bust line technique to find out where is the perfect spot for you to place your balloons as well as the nipples. The best way to find out is to take pictures of yourself and then look at them.
