Professor Chieffo maintains a long-term interest in public art, which
began with his work as the first studio assistant to Naum Gabo, the
internationally known Russian-American Constructivist sculptor. Here
in Raleigh, Chieffo holds the position of Visiting Distinguished Research
Scholar at NC State University while he is writing The Gabo Project – A
Memoir, a book about his years working for Gabo.
Additionally, Chieffo has been the recipient of numerous awards, grants,
and fellowships. In 1996, he was the Rome Prize alternate and Visiting
Artist/Scholar in Residence at the American Academy in Rome. In 197677, he was awarded a National Museum Act Grant to pursue scientific
conservation research on American portrait miniatures. He has had
fellowships from the American Federation of Arts, MO, Council on the
Arts, Notre Dame University and a teaching fellowship in Italy.

About Mitchell: Mitchell’s aim, as a sculptor,
is to make the great American statue. He
believes that public art should inform,
delight, and beautify its surroundings,
and these are goals for him as well.

About Kiefer: Kiefer’s work is influenced
by abandoned farm homes and rundown
steel structures, and studies how nature
seems to devour and erase man made
structures. Residing now in Eastern
North Carolina, he is inspired by nature’s
resiliency to survive and grow through
adversary. The works ask for you to view
them as ruins found from a lost time and
place - a world where we get a glimpse
at tomorrow.

A PUBLIC ART PROJECT
CVA is celebrating our second year of the popular
public art program, Selfie with a Sculpture!
About Jubran: Jubran’s work addresses
the concepts of time, movement,
balance, and space. Each sculpture
occupies and creates its own
reality influenced by its immediate
surroundings. The work does not rely
on one media to evoke the intended
response, but takes advantage of
compatible materials such as, wood,
granite, steel, iron, and bronze.

About Bowling: Bowling grew up in
Kentucky. Often the materials Bowling
uses are from the turn of the last century
which he feels is appropriate for depicting
the horse, a concentration he is currently
working with, so intertwined with our
agrarian past. Re-purposed steel provides
a sound structure, which allows Bowling to
work on a scale that lends itself to public
spaces.
