A message from the Academy President - Deirdre Cryor
Dear St. Mary’s Academy Community,
It’s time for the Gala! Thank you for joining us as we take a Walk on the Wild Side this
year!
I am sincerely grateful to Gala Chair Marlo Wagner and Auction Chairs Casey Lloyd and
Melissa McCormick for their hard work to make this a spectacular evening for
St. Mary’s Academy.
Thank you to all of our generous event sponsors, to all who are volunteering tonight, to everyone who has acquired
items for the auction, to those who have chaired committees and to the many, many friends who have made this all
happen. The Gala is truly a celebration for our community organized by our community.
Tonight’s proceeds will support our Tuition Assistance Program. Students from all three divisions, boys and girls,
receive financial assistance to attend our beloved school. Offering tuition assistance is an essential part of our
mission and core to our identity as a Loretto school. Because of you, and years of conscientious budgeting, St.
Mary’s Academy is consistently able to offer support to over 30% of our student body.
In addition to Tuition Assistance, a portion of funds raised tonight will support our Math Departments in all three
divisions. Critical to practically every other academic area, St. Mary’s Academy is increasingly integrating
mathematics throughout our entire curriculum, enhancing the student experience to promote comprehension, and
ensuring that our exceptional math teachers remain at the top in our pedagogy.
Know that your generosity begets generosity and benefits our entire community. Tonight, I hope you have fun with
old friends and take a moment to meet someone new. Place your bids in person, on a tablet, on your phone—and
remember to raise your paddles during the live auction!
Enjoy this Wild night!
Deirdre V. Cryor
Academy President

A message from the Board of Trustees Chair - Bob Flynn
Dear Members and Friends of the St. Mary’s Community,
Welcome and thank you for participating in the 2016 SMA Gala.
This annual gathering gives us the opportunity to celebrate SMA’s long and successful
history, our friendships and our promising future. We are grateful for all of the families
that make up our community, including alumnae, parents of alumnae and parents and
grandparents of current students. My wife, Kathy, and I have two daughters and a
nephew who attended St. Mary’s Academy. And most of my fellow members of the Board
of Trustees - several of whom are alumnae - have children who are graduates or current
students.
Your generous financial support of the Gala, including your purchases of these wonderful
auction items, supports our Tuition Assistance Program, enabling us to provide an outstanding education to over
30% of our students who would otherwise be unable to attend St. Mary’s Academy.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we extend our gratitude to Marlo Wagner, our Gala Chair, Casey Lloyd and
Melissa McCormick, our Auction Chairs and Molly del Monte, our Advancement Events Coordinator. We also thank
Charlie Arbogast, our Director of Advancement, and all of our donors and volunteers whose dedication and hard
work has gone into making this year’s Gala a success. Most of all, we thank you, our families, friends and sponsors
for supporting St. Mary’s Academy and for making it possible for us to continue to honor the mission and core
values first established by the Sisters of Loretto in 1864.
Please have a fun-filled evening!
Bob Flynn
Chair of the St. Mary’s Academy Board of Trustees

A message from the Gala Chair - Marlo Wagner
Dear St. Mary’s Academy Families and Friends,
I hope you all have a wonderful time tonight taking a Walk On The Wild Side at the St. Mary’s
Academy 2016 Gala! I’m sincerely thankful for your support of our school. As SMA takes a leap
into its 151st year of education we have embarked on a new journey, adding to the advancement
of our campus with the new Community Center!
It takes continued support in all ways of giving to keep moving into the future. While 95% of this
year’s Gala proceeds benefit SMA’s Tuition Assistance Program, the remaining 5% will be
allocated to the Lower, Middle and High School Math Programs. Congratulations, Iswari Natarajan
for your exemplary teaching in the HS so that all 25 of your students brought home a 5, the highest possible score, on
their AP Calculus AB and BC exams in May 2015
I want to thank the St. Mary’s Academy faculty and staff who provide an enormous amount of support to the Gala
committee. Molly del Monte deserves a heartfelt thank you and has been instrumental in guiding me as Gala Chair. I
also want to thank our Auction Chairs, Casey Lloyd and Melissa McCormick, the wonderful 45 person Gala committee
and amazing volunteers who work so hard to make this special night a success. And of course a special thank you to
the families, sponsors and donors who continue to support St. Mary’s Academy. There is no way to fully express our
gratitude for your loyalty. We at SMA are continually inspired by the dedication and generosity of donors like yourself,
who answer the call to give again and again.
We are blessed to be a part of such a special community that provides an amazing education for our children. We’ve
also been blessed with having Deirdre Cryor as our Academy President for the last ten years. Thank you for your
service and expertise at SMA and we wish you well on your future journey as Head of School at Country Day School
of the Sacred Heart in Philadelphia.
Enjoy your “Wild” evening and we hope to continue the tradition of Inspiring Generations for the future!

We live in a global village, whether people acknowledge it or not… this
is our reality in the 21 century. Our mission as educators is to assist
our students in preparing them for their future reality. We need to
give our students the necessary tools and skills so that they can be
productive and contributing members of the global village. Living and
learning in the global village requires an international perspective and
a cross cultural awareness. The High School Faculty continues to
discover ways to educate our students so they will be knowledgeable,
compassionate citizens and effective leaders within a rapidly
transforming world.
