It is designed so that the beginner or the expert will benefit. The participants will be divided into age-appropriate groups and coached in track and field events, such as sprints, distance events, long jump, discus, and shot put. Coach Hutson will also concentrate on other areas, including running form, proper diet for athletes, circuit training, and mental preparation. Practices will be held three times a week beginning in May and will run through the end of July. Participants will have the opportunity to run in a Hershey Track and Field Meet. Information will be given to the participant if they are interested in meets sponsored by USA Track & Field, and AAU. Pre-season practices are available to anyone registering for the program. The reason we provide the pre-season practices are some runners participate in school seasons and some do not. It is highly recommended that if the participant is not in a running program they should participate in the pre-season practices. This gives all the participants’ ample time to practice before running in any meets. The actual season begins on June 1. Pre-season runs on Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays, May 3-May 31. The program will teach students the proper fundamentals of grip, stance, and posture, as well as provide an understanding of swing path and clubface and alignment skills. Each student will learn to apply these skills to wood and iron play, putting, chipping, and bunker play in both practice and playing conditions. Also included in our program will be video analysis of each students swing using state of the art technology, as well as discussions of the rules and golf appreciation and etiquette. The camps are designed for junior golfers of all skill levels, grades 6-12. The central focus will be building the skills necessary to enjoy the game through greater understanding of and proficiency in the fundamentals of golf. Improvement of the short game and long game are the specific goals of the camps. Within each session, students will be grouped according to ability level and/or age. This allows instruction to be more finely tuned to the needs of a particular group within a given session. Therefore more advanced students will not be held back and less experienced students will not be left behind. Each session includes: professional instruction, green fees, range balls, video analysis, lunch and snack, and prizes.
