Americans with
Disabilities Act (A.D.A)
This landmark civil rights
act went into effect in 1992. It is a significant step forward to make our
society’s services and opportunities fully
available to all Americans by combating
barriers and prejudices that confront those
of us with disabilities. RARA is committed
to implementing the intent and spirit of this
legislation. Those who may need
assistance in order to participate and
enjoy our programs should contact John
Anderson at least two weeks in advance
at 248-656-8308 to discuss any necessary
accommodations or concerns.
Persons with disabilities are invited to
participate in all programs offered through
RARA. We ask that you inform us on your
registration of any special assistance that
you may need.
For more information, call RARA at 248-656-8308, or visit us on the web at www.RARARecreation.org

This class is for the mature teen
and will focus on learning how
to use your camera, as well as
understanding photography as
an art form. Through in class
demonstrations, lecture and photo
shoots, the students will be working
on photographing a single topic in
order to create a series. Topics will
be up to the students but emphasis
will be on using photography as a form of visual expression. There will
be group discussion every week so teens must be ok with speaking
to the class about their images and giving positive criticism to their
peers. Please note that most of the photographs students take in this
class must be done on their own time as “homework.” In class photo
shoots will take place within walking distance of the Administration

great exercise, entertainment and encourages each person to
develop a greater level of discipline in his or her life.
• Program is run in a positive, structured class environment.
• Parents are encouraged to attend.
Adult & Family Sanchin-Ryu /
Advanced Youth Sanchin-Ryu
The art of Sanchin-Ryu is taught in a way that allows adult students
to grow and learn at their own pace. We’ve found that this builds
self-confidence, helps understand stress management and
increases composure and self-defense awareness. This program
is also a great family activity! Common sense self-defense ideas
and techniques are examined and instructed. The Advanced Youth
Sanchin-Ryu program is held in conjunction with this program. Youth
students ranking Green Belt (2nd level) and above continue their
Sanchin-Ryu training.

on an if-needed basis. If enough individuals are on the list to form a team, AND there is an
available spot, a team will be created from this list. For more information, contact the R.A.R.A.

Saturdays Youth Flag Football—Fall 2011
THE LARGEST Flag Football League in the Area!
Do you like fast paced games where
everyone is involved? Do you want
to learn about football with some of
the best volunteer coaches around
without having to wear the pads yet?
Registration starts Monday, May 9th.
For Boys and Girls in Grades 3, 4,
5 & 6. Two weeks of practice then an
eight week schedule. This league is
based loosely on NFL Flag football
and the kind of street football you grew up with as a kid. Everybody
goes out for the pass. All games are played on a small field. 5 on
5 team play. Games run no more than an hour. All kids play. Size
doesn’t always count. Speed is just as important. Flags hang from
the sides of players and are pulled off for the tackle.
10 Player Limit per team. 5 on 5 team play. Schools with players
that cannot fill a team will be combined with other school teams as
best as possible.

RARA Track and Field Program
The R.A.R.A. is entering our twelfth season of Track, coached
by Dave Hutson of Rochester College. It is designed so that the
beginner or the expert will benefit. The participants will be divided
into age-appropriate groups and coached in track and field events,
such as sprints, distance events, long jump, discus, and shot put.
Coach Hutson will also concentrate on other areas, including running
form, proper diet for athletes, circuit training, and mental preparation.
Practices will be held three times a week beginning in May and will
run through the end of July. Participants will have the opportunity
to run in a Hershey Track and Field Meet. Information will be given
to the participant if they are interested in meets sponsored by USA
Track & Field, and AAU.
Pre-season practices are available to anyone registering for the
program. The reason we provide the pre-season practices are some
runners participate in school seasons and some do not. It is highly
recommended that if the participant is not in a running program
they should participate in the pre-season practices. This gives all
the participants’ ample time to practice before running in any meets.
The actual season begins on June 1. Pre-season runs on Monday,
Tuesday and Thursdays, May 3-May 31. The season begins on
Tuesday, June 1.

Junior Golf Development Camps
The Jim Norgart Junior Development Camps offer four 4-day
sessions designed to help students of all skill levels improve their
golf game. The program will teach students the proper fundamentals
of grip, stance, and posture, as well as provide an understanding of
swing path and clubface and alignment skills. Each student will learn
to apply these skills to wood and iron play, putting, chipping, and
bunker play in both practice and playing conditions. Also included
in our program will be video analysis of each students swing using
state of the art technology, as well as discussions of the rules and
golf appreciation and etiquette.
The camps are designed for junior golfers of all skill levels, grades
6-12. The central focus will be building the skills necessary to enjoy
the game through greater understanding of and proficiency in the
fundamentals of golf. Improvement of the short game and long game
are the specific goals of the camps. Within each session, students
will be grouped according to ability level and/or age. This allows
instruction to be more finely tuned to the needs of a particular group
within a given session. Therefore more advanced students will not
be held back and less experienced students will not be left behind.
Each session includes: professional instruction, green fees, range
balls, video analysis, lunch and snack, and prizes.

presented at a local high school.
Dancers can enjoy non-recital classes taught in 8-12 week

SUMMER. The SUMMER TERM, provides students the
opportunity to strengthen skills or sample new classes in a short
8 week session begins each June.
THE NEXT OPEN ENROLLMENT FOR RECITAL DANCE

Annual auditions will be held on June 18 and 20 for our 20112012 COMPETITION and ENSEMBLE classes. See page 43.
