Sleepy Hollow
Don’t Lose Your Head:
Meet
Ichabod Crane and Horrifying Horseman
Hawaii Five-0) and up-and-coming writer/producer
Phillip Iscove, the show sees Irving’s superstitious
1790s schoolmaster, Ichabod Crane, reimagined as
an American Revolutionary War soldier and former
Oxford history professor, who defects from the
English side and dies in 1781 during battle with a
mysterious headless horseman. Upon finding himself
resurrected over 200 years later, Crane (Tom Mison)
must work to discover the strange truth about his
past, while learning to live in the baffling reality of
modern-day America.
Also seeking answers is young police officer
Lieutenant Grace Abigail “Abbie” Mills (Nicole
Behari) whose sheriff, August Corbin (Clancy Brown),
is discovered dead around the same time Crane
rises from his grave. Found wandering the streets
nearby, the bewildered soldier is brought in as a
suspect in the brutal murder. Initially wary of each
other, Mills struggles to believe Crane’s outlandish
story, while Crane himself distrusts complex 21stcentury machines. It’s not long, however, before the
two discover that they have a surprising amount in
common: with the help of a Bible found in the cave
where he was buried, Crane deduces that he and
Mills are in fact the two Witnesses referred to in
Revelation, while their immortal enemy is Death, one
of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
Mills and Crane begin to investigate together, with
the help of Abbie’s tough-nut sister, Jenny (Lyndie
Greenwood), and Crane’s wife, Katrina (Katia Winter).
Initially trapped in a sort of Purgatory between
worlds, Katrina appears to her husband in a series of
haunting visions, explaining that in life, she was part
of an ancient coven of witches, established to fight
evil, and was executed for practising magic soon
after her husband’s death.
As it transpires, there’s much more to the
Horseman’s history with the Cranes than his fatal
L
oosely based on Washington Irving’s classic
ghost story, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,
Fox’s supernatural drama Sleepy Hollow
has met with tremendous success since its initial
broadcast in September 2013. The pilot episode
alone attracted a total of 10 million viewers, earning
it a place among the network’s highest-rated fall
drama premieres and leading to the deservedly
speedy commission of a second series.
Created by writing duo Alex Kurtzman and
Roberto Orci (Transformers, Star Trek, Fringe),
director Len Wiseman (Underworld, Total Recall,

battle with Ichabod in 1781. Before their marriage,
Katrina was betrothed to a man named Abraham
Van Brunt (Neil Jackson), another Englishman who
fought alongside the American army with Crane.
Katrina left Van Brunt who, filled with jealousy and
fury at his comrade’s perceived betrayal, sold his
soul after his death at the hands of the Shadow
Warriors (powerful Hessian mercenaries fighting
for the British). Reincarnated as Death itself, Van
Brunt took his revenge on Crane, losing his own
head in the process. With the Apocalypse looming,
the blood-bound soldiers were simultaneously
resurrected for a final showdown. But as if that
wasn’t complicated enough, Season Two brings new
revelations that leave the characters’ relationships
messier than ever, with some major sacrifices and a
finale that sees Abbie travelling back in time.
For all its unapologetically outlandish stories, Sleepy
Hollow builds real tension, seamlessly blending horror
with humour in a style reminiscent of shows like Buffy
the Vampire Slayer. Knowingly silly, it’s packed full of
dry, witty dialogue and endlessly endearing characters,
brought vividly to life by its fantastic cast. With the
spectacular second season having recently drawn
to a close, stars Tom Mison and Neil Jackson will be
galloping into Birmingham this weekend to join us at
the NEC for another exciting MCM Comic Con.
Beyond Sleepy Hollow, the two British actors boast
an impressive list of stage and screen credits. No
stranger to period acting or literary-inspired drama,
in addition to his numerous theatre roles, Mison has
appeared as Mr Bingley in Lost in Austen, as Callum
in the popular One Day, as Captain Robert Mayers in
Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, and more recently as
Potty Perowne in Parade’s End. In 2013, he played Tim
in indie rom-com Dead Cat and Mark in the awardwinning Jadoo, as well as lending

Robot Overlords
obot. Overlords. Two words when put
together scream the title for a curious
and potentially awesome project. And
it exists. It’s not every day you watch a movie –
especially one involving robots trying to take over
the world – and see that it actually takes place in
a fictional British seaside town. Robot Overlords
looks to be the right kind of original thought in
science-fiction cinema. A fresh viewpoint through
eyes one doesn’t normally see.
Robot Overlords hits UK cinema screens this
month, and at the MCM Birmingham Comic Con
you’ll be able to experience an exciting Q&A with
the filmmakers!
Brought to us from writer and director Jon
Wright, co-writer Mark Stay, and VFX supervisor
Paddy Easton, each of those names have some
strong credits behind them. Wright is the director
of the criminally under-seen British horror comedy
Tormented; Stay is not only screenwriter for Robot
Overlords but also its novelisation, not to mention
his presence as a strong creative voice focused on
delivering high-quality content; and Easton’s work
ranging from Aardman features Chicken Run and
Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit to
Tim Burton’s Big Fish.
With a creative team like that, it’s great to see
that they have been working with equally impressive
talent in front of the camera, bringing us the likes
of Sir Ben Kingsley and Gillian Anderson at the
forefront of a strong cast in a high-concept film
such as this. You’ll want to believe this British-made
sci-fi action movie has what it takes to play in the
big leagues.
With a no-nonsense title like Robot Overlords,
you know this film has embraced the old-school
ideals of action-adventure movies from days gone
by, and any vision like that is worth paying attention
to. Robot Overlords’ official synopsis is thus:
The adults lost the war and now the kids must save
the world! Robots rule the streets and the people are
locked in their homes. Stepping outside risks being
vaporised by a hulking Sentry or picked off by a lethal
Sniper. Through the ruins of Britain a group of kids,
led by Callan McAuliffe (The Great Gatsby), set out
to join the Resistance. Hot on their heels however
6
Robot Overlords
is their old teacher turned robot collaborator Mr
Smythe, played by Ben Kingsley (Iron Man 3) and his
captive Gillian Anderson (The X-Files).
Pretty cool stuff. Anything with robots is always
worth having a look at, even more so if the robots
have pretty much won, yet the humans still have
such a drive to fight back and survive. It’s that
resilience and determination to succeed over the
machines that drove other blood pumping flicks like
the Terminator franchise.
Shot in Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man,
Robot Overlords wears its influences on its sleeve,
channelling 1980s adventure movies like The Goonies
and Stand By Me, which we rarely see anymore. In an
interview with director Joe Wright, he explained that
sentiment, describing how the children in those films
“spoke to each other like real kids.”
Wright adds that, “They used playground slang
and there was something a bit rough-around-theedges about it. They were not special kids. They
were neither especially poor nor especially rich. They
felt like average kids in an average world to whom
something extraordinary happens. There was a spirit
and a heart in those movies that I feel is missing in our
contemporary blockbuster world. The blockbusters
all seem to have become a bit cold, serious and dour.
I wanted our kids to feel like the kids I remember from
the playground. To insult each other and be neither
overly respectful nor too romantic.”
In a world where the US seems to have all the
fun, especially with science-fiction invasion-type
stories, it’s always welcome to see the UK be the
home of interesting stories. Whether its Attack
The Block or The World’s End, it looks like Robot
Overlords could join that sub-genre.
Wright claims that the idea for the film came to
him in a dream where a father and son open the
curtains to their house and see robots patrolling
the street. “You don’t typically see robots in a small
seaside town,” smiles Wright. “Our heroes are
average in the best sense of the word. The place
where they live is the kind of town a lot of people
will recognise as the kind of town they live in.” One
can’t say they’ve seen this sort of movie before.
And that’s all the more reason Robot Overlords
looks to be quite the experience in the cinema.
Robot Overlords will crash land into UK cinemas
on 27th March 2015, but you can already get a taste
of the cinematic delight in other forms. For one,
co-writer Mark Stay’s novelisation of the movie is
already available in paperback and ebook from
Gollancz, not to mention an actual tie-in video
game is available to download and play on mobile
devices for 99p, brought to you by Iglu Media.
And of course, do not miss the Q&A panel for
Robot Overlords at MCM Birmingham Comic
Con, moderated by 2000AD founder and comics
legend Pat Mills! Expect exclusive footage to be
shown before the film’s release, giveaways, and the
filmmakers giving us all the information we need
about this exciting homegrown sci-fi epic!

Colm Meaney
Colm Meaney
P
erhaps best-known to con-goers as Star
Trek’s likeable engineer Miles O’Brien, and
Cowen, leader of the Genii in Stargate Atlantis,
Irish actor Colm Meaney holds a firmly established
position in the world of genre television with years
of experience in science-fiction, crime, horror and
period drama. Following a hilarious performance in
2013’s Alan Partridge movie, Alpha Papa, Meaney is
currently starring in AMC’s historical series Hell on
Wheels, a Western-style story charting the building
of the First Transcontinental Railroad.
Based on real-life people and events, Hell on
Wheels takes place in 19th-century America, with
Meaney taking on the role of businessman Thomas
“Doc” Durant. A major railroad investor, Durant
aggressively pursues a “mad, noble quest” to expand
the Union Pacific Railroad westward and thereby
make his fortune. With New World industrial growth
taking place against a murky historical backdrop
of slavery, civil war and genocide, however, it’s not
long before dark and disturbing themes surface and
mires of corruption are revealed. Having reached four
seasons (with the fourth season currently showing
on TCM in the UK), such is the success of Hell on
Wheels that it has been renewed for a fifth season,
which will air in the US later this year.
In Alpha Papa, Meaney plays Pat Farrell, fellow
DJ to Alan Partridge at North Norfolk Digital. When
a big, multinational conglomerate takes over the
local Norwich radio station, both men are faced
with redundancy, and resort to fighting the system
– and each other – in order to hold on to their jobs.
Left jobless and desperate, DJ Farrell holds up
the station, taking its staff hostage and forcing his
hapless colleague into a negotiating role.
Appearing in an impressive total of 225 episodes,
Colm Meaney’s Star Trek character, Miles O’Brien,
is the franchise’s second most frequently recurring
character after Michael Dorn’s Lieutenant Worf.
A regular in both The Next Generation and Deep
Space 9, O’Brien is a likeable, down-to-earth ensign
with an apparent dislike of titles and decoration.
Beginning as the Enterprise’s Battle Bridge Flight
Controller, O’Brien rises through the ranks on his
8
Colm Meaney
wits, quickly becoming the ship’s Transporter Chief
before transferring to Deep Space 9 as Chief of
Operations. Both a war hero and an experienced,
well-respected engineer, in his 22 years with
Starfleet, O’Brien serves aboard half a dozen
starships, participates in 232 combat engagements
and is decorated on 15 occasions before finally
settling down into a Starfleet Academy teaching
post back on Earth. As Star Trek‘s only major
Irish-born character, the history and folk culture
of O’Brien’s homeland play an important part in
his development over the course of the two series
he appears in. In various episodes, he traces his
ancestry from both Sean Aloysius O’Brien, a 19thcentury coal mine worker and strike leader, and 11th
century king and founder of the O’Brien clan, Brian
Boru. Thomas Moore’s patriotic song “The Minstrel
Boy” holds particular resonance with the character.
Elsewhere, Irish history and culture have played
an important part in several of Meaney’s other film
and TV roles, including his Golden Globe-nominated
performance as Des Curley in the film adaptations of
Roddy Doyle’s Barrytown Trilogy – The Commitments,
The Snapper and The Van. Among his earliest acting
roles was Shawn Keogh in a TV film adaptation of J.
M. Synge’s The Playboy of the Western World.
In addition to a long and varied list of TV credits
including Inspector Brackenreid in The Murdoch
Mysteries, Bob O’Donnell in Men in Trees and guest
appearances in Play for Tomorrow, Tales from the
Darkside, MacGyver and Law and Order, Meaney
boasts a diverse filmography, encompassing the
likes of Con Air (DEA Agent Duncan Malloy), Layer
Cake (Gene), The Damned United (Don Revie) and
Get Him to the Greek (Jonathan Snow). He has
also lent his vocal talents to animated characters in
one-off episodes of The Simpsons and Gargoyles.
In 2009, he guest-starred as Dunkilderry pub owner
Tom O’Flanagan in the St. Patrick’s Day Simpsons
episode, “In the Name of the Grandfather”, while
in 1996, he played the father of Rory Dugan (the
reincarnation of ancient Irish hero Cú Chulainn) in
Gargoyles episode “The Hound of Ulster”.
This weekend, we’re excited to welcome this
superbly talented actor to the stage at MCM
Birmingham, where he’ll be answering all your
burning questions in panels on both Saturday
and Sunday. Colm Meaney will also be available
for autographs and photographs, check the
schedule for times.

“
Y

“VR...? Guess that’s better than nothing.”
Sound familiar? Perhaps you remember playing
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty on your
PlayStation 2 back in the early ‘noughties?
If so, you’ll be as excited as we are to welcome
Metal Gear’s Raiden – aka American voice actor
Quinton Flynn – to the stage at this month’s MCM
Birmingham Comic Con. Born in Cleveland, Ohio,
Flynn has been providing the voices for much-loved
characters across all platforms for years.
Before entering the world of video games,
Flynn began working on a number of animated
shows. His earliest roles include Timon in The
Lion King’s Timon & Pumbaa spin-off series in the
mid 1990s, but his big break would come in later
years when he picked up choice parts in several
exceptional anime dubs. Over the course of two
years and well over forty episodes, Flynn played
the role of Marcus Damon in Digimon Data Squad.
Other notable roles included Ninja Academy
instructor Iruka Umino in the English dubs of both
the original Naruto series and its 2007 follow-up
Naruto: Shippûden. Flynn also worked on the
anime/manga juggernaut Bleach, providing the
unforgettable English dub for the sex-crazed
stuffed lion Kon!
In 2005 Flynn dubbed one of the most interesting
characters from the Square Enix and Sony Pictures
movie Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, the feature
film follow-up to the ground-breaking PlayStation
game from 1997. Flynn provided the voice of Reno,
the nightstick-wielding leader of the Turks, a role he
would later reprise in the 2007 PlayStation Portable
game, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII.
To date, Flynn has lent his vocal talents to over
eighty different video games, making a huge
impact in the medium through various major
franchises, including the likes of Dynasty Warriors,
Kingdom Hearts and the Batman: Arkham series.
Nevertheless, Raiden remains his biggest role.
First introduced in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of
Liberty as the main playable character, he later
returned for a supporting role in Metal Gear Solid
4: Guns of the Patriots. It wasn’t until 2013 that he
was given his own character arc with the release
of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. The hackand-slash actioner dug deeper into Raiden’s story,
detailing the events between Metal Gear Solid
2 and Metal Gear Solid 4, firmly cementing the
character’s iconic status among gamers.
Over the course of this weekend, there will
be opportunities to get signed autographs and
photographs with Quinton, as well as Q&A
discussions on the MCM Birmingham stage. Check
out the schedule for full details.

Warwick Davis
WARWICK
DAVIS
W
arwick Davis is in attendance at MCM
Birmingham Comic Con to talk to fans old
and new.
The 3 ft 6 in actor has had a very impressive
filmography, from Star Wars to Harry Potter, but
always manages to sign autographs and answer
questions on stage, captivating audiences that are
familiar with his work.
Beginning his career with Star Wars Episode
VI: Return of the Jedi, Warwick has played many
an iconic character, from Wicket W. Warrick to
Willow to Leprechaun to Griphook and Warwick’s
illustrious roles show no signs of stopping,
from appearing in a Doctor Who written by Neil
Gaiman through to the scoring a role in the highly
anticipated Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force
Awakens released this year.
Davis has always been positive and vocal about
his dedication to his craft. He has spoken in the
past about how much he respects make-up artists
and knows how their processes work from all of
his exposure with prosthetics. Without make-up
artists, Warwick would not be able to fully embody
some of the fantastic roles he transforms into,
such as Griphook from the Harry Potter series and
Leprechaun from the franchise of the same name.
Warwick is also swift to point out that
Leprechaun was the toughest make-up process
he has had to go through
because that was the first
real time the actor has
been exposed to the use of
prosthetics in his acting. Since
then the actor has donned
make-up in several roles, and
thanks to it he is one of the
only actors to play multiple
roles in the same movies he
has been a part in – namely the Star Wars and
Harry Potter movies.
The actor throws himself into his roles,
showcasing a brilliant range of performances that
show all the different things he can do. He even does
well to play on his own image, seen both in his public
presence and in works such as Life’s Too Short.
In the series he showcases how well he can take a
joke and use his stature to the best of his abilities
to entertain. In one episode Warwick meets Johnny
Depp, who studies Davis for a role, pitting Warwick’s
size against several hypothetical situations.
You can have the chance to meet Warwick Davis
on Saturday at MCM Birmingham Comic Con
where he is always open to meet fans and answer
any and every question you can think of. Warwick
will also be taking part in a very special event in the
afternoon of Saturday so keep an eye out for that!

The Walking Dead
I
t was back in October 2010 that AMC first broadcast
a terrifying TV drama focused on everyone’s
favourite nightmare: surviving a zombie apocalypse.
Based on a comic series by writer Robert Kirkman and
artist Tony Moore, The Walking Dead was an instant
hit, its style, suspense and storylines blowing viewers’
minds even as its gruesome “Walkers” gorged
themselves upon those of its characters.
Joining a line-up of glossy and prestigious TV
dramas at AMC which included the likes of Mad Men
and Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead was developed
by three-time Oscar-nominated writer and director
Frank Darabont. After a successful US opening, the
show began airing in the UK on Fox the following
month, with reruns later shown on Channel 5.
The series’ astonishing first season kicked
off with a 90-minute pilot episode, “Days Gone
Bye”, which offered us our first nail-biting and
claustrophobic glimpse into the world of Sheriff
Deputy Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) that left
us dying for more. After being wounded in
an altercation with an escaped convict, Rick
awakes from a coma to find to himself in an eerily
empty hospital. Naturally, it’s not long before he
discovers the devastating truth about the zombie
epidemic that has swept the world while he slept.
With nothing to keep him in his small Kentucky
hometown, he decides to travel to Atlanta in search
of his wife Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies) and his son
16
The Walking Dead
Carl (Chandler Riggs), who have attempted to
start a new life on the road with a small group of
survivors, believing Rick to be dead. Complicating
matters, however, is the fact that Lori has since
taken up with Rick’s best friend and former
police colleague Shane Walsh (Jon Bernthal).
Unsurprisingly then, things get heated when Rick
unexpectedly shows up at their camp and takes
over Shane’s unofficial “group leader” mantle.
Since then, The Walking Dead has evolved
across five hugely successful seasons, with
last year’s Season Five opener smashing US
cable-viewing records: an amazing 17.3 million
households tuned in to find out what happened to
the survivors when they found themselves at odds
with a mysterious faction known as Terminus.
As of yet, the story is still far from over, with
Walking Dead comics still published monthly by
Image Comics. Things have stepped up from the
original black-and-white prints, however: now
Kirkman works with a group of artists on every issue,
with British artist Charlie Arlard playing a crucial role
in getting each one pencilled. When asked about
the series’ continuation, Kirkman claimed to have
already plotted all the way up to issue #200. With the
latest issue being #137, it seems we still have a few
more exciting years ahead.
This month, we’re ecstatic to announce that
Walking Dead actors Tyler James Williams, Laurie
Holden and Christian Serratos will be attending
MCM Birmingham Comic Con to answer your
questions about the show.
First introduced in Season Four, 23-year-old
Serratos plays the gun-touting Rosita Espinosa,
one third of a new group of ass-kicking mercenaries
on a course for Washington DC. The group’s leader
is her partner, Abraham Ford (Michael Cudlitz), a
former US army sergeant. Together, the couple
are protecting a valuable VIP, Eugene Porter (Josh
McDermitt), a scientist who appears to have some
answers about the cause of the epidemic, and
possibly something even more important: it’s his
calculations and theories that have them headed for
the capital.
Raised in Southern California, Serratos first
appeared on television at the age of 14, spending
four years starring in Nickelodeon’s Ned’s
Declassified School Survival Guide alongside Devon
Werkheiser and Lindsay Shaw. Soon afterwards,
in 2008 she landed a part in one of the decades
biggest movie sagas, Twilight, playing Bella Swan’s
classmate, Angela Weber. Serratos gained more
screen time as the series progressed, with her
biggest role coming in Eclipse, which sees her and
Bella planning their graduation ceremony together.
More recently, she also starred in 7500, a horror film
directed by Takashi Shimizu, the man behind the JuOn series and their American remakes, retitled The
17
The Walking Dead
Grudge. Alongside Ryan Kwanten, Amy Smart and
Jerry Ferrera, Serratos plays a passenger on board
a ten-hour flight from Los Angeles to Tokyo which
turns out to be haunted.
Tyler James Williams, meanwhile, takes on the role
of Noah Cruz beginning in Season Five. Separated
from his dying father after being ambushed by a
group of police officers, led by the power-crazed
Dawn Lerner (Christine Woods), Noah works at the
Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. While there he
later encounters Beth Greene (Emily Kinney), one
of the original survivors from Rick’s group, who has
been similarly ambushed. Together, the pair plot their
escape from the hospital in the hope of reuniting with
Rick and his group.
A 22-year-old actor and rapper, Williams
is the eldest of three acting brothers with a
singer/songwriter mother. He first appeared on
television on shows like Little Bill and Sesame
Street in 2000, but his big break came in 2005
when he gained the leading role in Everybody
Hates Chris, the US sitcom inspired by comedian
Chris Rock’s childhood stories. Performing the
part of Chris Rock’s younger self, Williams acts
alongside comedy juggernaut Terry Crews, who
plays his on-screen father. In 2014, Tyler starred
as one of the leading actors in Justin Simiens’s
satirical comedy Dear White People, which tells
the stories of four black students attending an Ivy
League college. Williams plays the Lionel Higgins,
a gay student who writes for the college’s
prestigious student newspaper, often about other
students in the film.
Laurie Holden has been involved in The Walking
Dead since it began, starring in Season One as
Andrea. Finding it difficult to get over the loss of
her younger sister Amy (Emma Bell), she trains with
Shane to improve her shooting skills and later keeps
watch at the farm. However, when a large number
of walkers approach, she helps to take them down,
only to be assumed dead during the fight and left to
fend for herself when everyone else flees. Holden’s
compelling performance as Andrea won her a
Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Holden has made guest appearances in TV
shows such as Murder, She Wrote and Poltergeist:
The Legacy. In 1996 she landed a recurring role on
The X-Files as Marita Covarrubias, an informant for
Fox Mulder, and in 1998 starred alongside Michael
Biehn in the TV series of The Magnificent Seven
as newspaper editor Mary Travis. She first worked
with Frank Darabont when he cast her in his film
The Majestic as love interest Adele, and again in his
adaptation of Stephen King’s The Mist, as one of
the survivors, Amanda. She has also appeared in
the big screen iterations of Fantastic Four and Silent
Hill, and recently starred in Dumber and Dumber To
as Adele, who tries to kill both Harry and Lloyd.
In addition to their panels, Williams, Holden
and Serratos will be available for autographs
and photos throughout the weekend: check our
schedule for times.

Christopher Gorham
A
doctor, a CIA agent, a superhero and even
the Wizard of Oz – Christopher Gorham
has played a diverse range of characters
throughout his career.
Gorham’s first encounter with show business
came when a family connection resulted in a job
working as an intern on Baywatch, hoping that he
would at least appear in one episode (he didn’t).
His first major break came in 1999 with the
teen comedy series Popular, in which he starred
as student Harrison John, who has feelings for
the popular cheerleader Brooke and for his best
friend Samantha.
Gorham later made an appearance in the series
Felicity, was a lead in the sci-fi shows Odyssey 5
and Jake 2.0, and starred in the drama Medical
Investigation. In 2006 he had a recurring role on
Ugly Betty, as Henry Grubstink. Working as an
accountant for Meade, he becomes a love interest
for Betty Suarez, with the pair sharing an on-andoff relationship throughout the series.
2010 saw Gorham take up his most well known
20
Christopher Gorham
role to date, as August ‘Auggie’ Anderson in the
USA Network show Covert Affairs. Auggie is the
head of technical operations at the CIA’s Domestic
Protection Division, and when the series begins,
we learn that he was forced out of working in the
field after being blinded during a mission in Iraq.
Considered an indispensable asset to his boss
Joan Campbell, Auggie is the handler to the show’s
lead, CIA trainee Annie Walker, played by Piper
Perabo. He is mostly seen helping and giving Annie
advice when she is out on a mission.
In the second season, during a flashback, we also
learn the truth about what happened to Auggie in
Iraq, where the soldiers he was leading all died, after
one of the men in his unit turned out to be a terrorist.
Auggie and Annie quickly become best friends,
but later in season three, Auggie realises that he
has deeper feelings for Annie. From season four we
see that the two are in a relationship, but with both
of them solving a complex mystery that takes them
all around the world, and news of Auggie’s ex-lover
Helen turning out to be not quite as dead as initially
suspected, it proves tricky to maintain.
Gorham admitted that his admiration for people
living with disabilities had increased from working
on Covert Affairs. He has spoken about having
received numerous messages from war veterans,
offering positive feedback when it comes to his
portrayal of Auggie. He also supports the charity
UCLA Operation Mend, which provides medical,
surgical and psychological care to military personal
that have been wounded in battle.
USA Network also gave Gorham the opportunity
to direct a few episodes of Covert Affairs, which he
described as “very rewarding”, saying that he hopes
to work behind the camera again in the future.
Recently Gorham guest-starred in season three
of Once Upon a Time as Walsh, Emma’s boyfriend,
who later turns out to be the Wizard of Oz. He also
voiced The Flash in the animated Justice League
films War and Throne of Atlantis. Having been a fan
of the Justice League cartoons when growing up,
he was happy to voice the character when the part
was offered to him.
Christopher Gorham will be at MCM
Birmingham Comic Con taking part in a panel and
signing autographs.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate
M
onster Hunter has been an incredible
phenomenon in Japan, and it’s about time
that the hunting fever spread to the West.
The series, which helped turn around the fortunes
of the PSP in Japan and shaped a generation of
social gamers, has returned to our shores in a
leaner, meaner form exclusive to Nintendo 3DS, and
enhanced on the Big N’s new “New” 3DS models.
This enhanced and updated version of the
original 2013 release packs in more features
and functionality than ever, creating the ultimate
playground for big beast hunters on the go who
love to slay with friends. This time around you take
on the role of a hunter, joining up with a travelling
caravan and exploring new lands, visiting a host of
new towns, and seeking out the most exotic, deadly
and challenging
ng beasts the world can throw at you.
It’s not hard
d to see why more than 32 million
games in the series have been sold worldwide,
despite still being
eing seen as a slightly niche title
in the West. The
he focus on multiplayer is a huge
draw, with the
e singleplayer effectively acting as
a huge, storied
d tutorial for
the trials and tribulations of
creating your playstyle,
giving you breathing
eathing
room to experiment with your fa
favoured weapons
and attack methods.
Playing with others is where this
th co-op gem truly
shines, offering up hundreds of missions
m
and targets
to terminate, and with 4’s focus on
o verticality on the
battlefield there’s even more depth
dept and strategy
to the often cat-and-mouse battles,
battle as monsters
retreat,
e
flee, lure you into tra
traps and constantly
keep you on your feet.

at MCM Birmingham Comic Con ...in fact, it’d
be great if you could share your pics on Twitter
with the hashtag #mcmBHM15. However,
photography and recording may be prohibited
during certain panels and screenings.
If you’ve lost something at the NEC, call into
the Security Office at either the Atrium (near
Hall 6 of Birmingham Comic Con) or the
Piazza (near Hall 1) – or call lost property on
0121 767 3883.
What if I get hurt?
Will I be on camera?
Trained first aid staff are available if there’s an
accident or incident. Please ask the nearest
NEC member of staff for assistance.
We attract local and national media, so it’s
certainly a possibility. By attending MCM
Birmingham Comic Con, you give your
consent to being photographed, filmed or
otherwise recorded.
Will I have to pay extra for stage events?
No! All on-stage panels and events are included
in the price of your MCM Birmingham Comic
Con ticket.
Where can I change into my cosplay?
There are changing rooms, as well as a handy
stand stocked with supplies for repairing
costumes, near the Cosplay Desk.
Will guests sign autographs?
Many of our guests will be available for
autographs, but charges will vary per guest.
Some may sign for free, although this may be
limited to a promo item. Some guests may also
be willing to pose for a photographs as well, but
this is at the individual guest’s discretion and
may not be possible due to time constraints.
Is there a place to leave my stuff?
Cloakroom facilities are available next to
halls when they’re open for events, with items
charged at £1 each. The NEC doesn’t provide
overnight storage lockers, however.
Is there wifi at the show?
Can I bring a weapon?
Yes! NEC Birmingham offers visitors free Wi-Fi
across the venue.
We don’t want to cramp your cosplay style,
but any item that is restricted or banned by
law is not welcome at our event. For safety
reasons we also do not allow heavy items
such as wooden baseball bats or metal
replica guns, nor do we allow functioning
projectile weapons. Please ensure
that realistic prop guns have a brightly
coloured tip. For further details, please
see the ‘Cosplay & Masquerade’ section
of the Birmingham Comic Con website
(www.mcmcomiccon.com/birmingham).
Where can I get more money?
There are five cash machines (with a charge
payable) in the Atrium outside Birmingham
Comic Con, as well as many others dotted
throughout the NEC. There are also free cash
points outside the NatWest Bank by Hall 4 in the
Piazza. Meanwhile, those arriving by train may
want to take advantage of the free cash points
near to Birmingham International rail station.
