The overall renovation project still aims to build additions that will house new locker rooms and move the music rooms up from the basement and to renovate public restrooms next to the gym. Highlights of the Class of 2014 63% of the graduating class of 41 students belonged to the National Honor Society 68% earned the President’s Education Award 68% graduated with honors 83% earned the Regents Scholar Diplomas. Of the 30 graduating seniors who participated in athletics, 22 (73%) earned the Senior Scholar Athlete award for achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better. There are a few specific points that make this school stand out. The primary way that people make differences in the lives of others is the construction of a personal relationship. The famous saying that “actions speak louder than words” is a great example. Teachers at Roncalli provide a direct role in this one-on-one relationship that builds trust and promotes character building in all of the students. When everyone is on board with a common purpose, great accomplishments are made. The teachers at this school make an effort to reach out to all of the students and create a personal connection with each and every one, making each person feel as if they are being actively engaged in the learning and growing experience that Roncalli prides itself on. The next reason that Roncalli stands out is the students. Kids are kids all over the world, but what makes Roncalli unique is the environment. Students, essentially, are what make a school a school. Without them, it would simply be another business. When a large group of students are unified with a common agenda and placed together, powerful changes are made. When this cohesive agenda is our faith in God, it creates a very profound place to learn and grow, unique from any other. There is something particular about the students that attend Roncalli, and it doesn’t solely resonate with the fact that we wear uniforms. The character and morality that is instilled into the students is what makes everyone so unique. In essence, it is a Christ-like character that is being taken upon by the students, and even more impressively, it is the constant yearning to grow and achieve in this fashion. The final reason that Roncalli has made a very positive difference in my life is the whole atmosphere that is based around a God-learning environment. This makes the greatest difference apart from anything else because this is the entire purpose of our short time here. What better way is there to develop one’s character and find out who you really are than in the structure of God’s will? Many people grow up and live their lives only to find out in their later years that what they thought they had wanted previously was not actually what was good and healthy for their mind, body, or soul. However, when one develops oneself in an atmosphere that promotes Christ-like attributes, failure is no longer an option, because God does not lead us astray. Roncalli has made a great deal of difference in my life, particularly by giving me a greater perspective on what the world is really about. For this, I thank Roncalli, the staff and my classmates for the opportunity. I also hope that all future students receive the great benefits that this school has to offer.
