Setting off on a whistle-stop journey of this multifaceted region, let’s begin with Lisbon, one of Europe’s most
attractive capitals. Less than an hour’s drive from Royal Óbidos Spa & Golf Resort, Lisbon is just a two-and-ahalf-hour f light from many of Europe’s major airports. The city of seven hills, Lisbon cascades down to the mighty
river Tagus, through a memorable tangle of streets, squares, castles, churches and monuments. Cosmopolitan and
culturally engaging, Lisbon has all the urban mystique you could ask for, offering a veritable modern city experience.
In the riverfront district of Belém we find two of the Seven Wonders of Portugal: the Jerónimos Monastery and the
Tower of Belém.
Heading west along the coast we reach the seaside towns of Cascais and Estoril, on what has often been called the
Portuguese R iviera. Elegant and exclusive, this popular region is a summer haunt for many of Lisbon’s jet set, with its

To the north, granite hills loom high on the horizon, welcoming us to Sintra, one of Portugal’s jewel destinations. A

Entering the Silver Coast region, and closer still to the resort, we begin to understand the grandeur of its location.
Just minutes from the Atlantic coastline, the resort lies right next to one of Europe’s major surfing sites, PenicheBaleal. A choice of great beaches and harbour towns offering famed seafood specialities are joined by Óbidos Lagoon,
another water sports hotspot, equally ideal for bird watching, similar to the Berlengas islands, a stunning nature reserve

The golf course at Royal Óbidos Spa & Golf Resort has received its own “royal” treatment thanks to arguably Iberia’s
greatest golfer of all time: Seve Ballesteros. Increasingly turning his hand to the art of golf course design, the celebrated
Spaniard has created a truly exciting layout for the Silver Coast.
A challenging and beautifully architectured course, Royal Óbidos sleekly winds its way through the entire resort, creating
a framework in which the various properties and facilities develop. Just 650 metres from the coast, the championship
course enjoys great views to the Atlantic ocean and to the Lagoa de Óbidos, Portugal’s largest lagoon.
Designed to merge effortlessly into the natural surroundings, while making innovative use of the local terrain, the
6400-metre course offers something to golfers of all levels. “My philosophy is to not only have a championship course
with difficulty for professional players, but also one that can have a big challenge for, and can be enjoyed by, the club
golfer,” Ballesteros explains.
A well equipped clubhouse, with restaurant, spike bar and pro shop, overlooks nine of the 18 holes. The terrace offers an
ideal post-round venue, where owners and visitors to Royal Óbidos can chew over their game, or simply enjoy spectacular
views of the golf course and the Atlantic Ocean beyond.

Nobody could ever deny the majesty of the setting in which Royal Óbidos Spa & Golf Resort develops. Skirting
Portugal’s Silver Coast, literally metres from the Atlantic Ocean, heading north-eastwards to practically touch the
Lagoa de Óbidos, the 336-acre site close to the medieval town of Óbidos, occupies a truly enviable position.
The initial phase of the development focuses on much of its central section, splitting the golf course in two, with the
creation of a series of village clusters of luxury apartments joined by a five-star hotel and spa and a selection of villas,
