PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
BUZZ MORNING TEA
It was a pleasure once again to have morning tea with the children who have received three, and six buzz
awards from our school. I could see why they had received their awards. The lovely manners and sensible
behaviour of the students was impressive. Congratulations to; Maddison Mates 4J, Jake Pokino 2K,
Tyler Cooper 4M, Daniel Buttigieg 1C, Kaeshia Sutharakaran 2C, Maddison Gale 2K, Kali Madden 6D, Mitchell
Ridge 4/3P, Jessica Tai 5M, Lily Kessler 6L, Nathan Abou-Touma 6T and George Cheika-Douaihy 6L.
CITIZENSHIP ASSEMBLY
We hold this assembly twice a year. The students who are awarded certificates should be very proud of this
achievement. The award recognizes students who care for people, property and their environment.

BADGE PRESENTATION
Badges were presented today to our library monitors and environment monitors. These students are part of a
team who help support two important aspects of our school. The library monitors assist Mrs Redman in the
running of our school library. They are; Thulasi Arun Sachinanandan, Zac Chadszinow, Yuna Kang, Bianca Law,
Isabelle Lay, Sabesh Mathiyalagan, Tasmyn Page, Maya Peach, Lucas Phabmixay, Willem Rudd, Charlotte
Thomson, Jaxyn Vickers and Olivia Yau.
The environment monitors are led by Mr Nunes and Mrs Keith. They will be involved in a variety of programs
focusing on making the school environment a more pleasant place for all students. They are; Breannan
Wilkinson, Caitlin Slade, Chinta Peatzold, Emin Demioyurek, Ethan Liu, Gwen Lardillier, Jorga Nikiforou, Kaashi
Patel, Keely Gannon, Mitchel Ridge, Montana Bournes, Pae Finau and Raine Park.
STATE CARNIVAL
Congratulations to Dyana Crabb who represented the Sydney West Region at the State
Carnival yesterday. Dyana swam in the butterfly. She came 31st out of a very impressive
line up. There were 5 heats.
CROSS COUNTRY
The annual cross country carnival was held on Tuesday. Congratulations to all the children who put in such a great
effort. The results of the carnival are;

These students will represent the school at the Zone Carnival on May 20th. The final results were Macarthur 1st,
Wentworth 2nd, Marsden 3rd and Fitzwilliam 4th.
ANZAC DAY
Our school ANZAC Day commemorative service will be held on Wednesday 26th April in the
school hall. If your child is a member of Scouts, Guides, Boys or Girls Brigade or Cadets, they
may wear their uniform for the service. You are most welcome to come and be a part of this
important event. Our leaders and students will gain much from the experience of
representing the spirit of ANZAC through commemorating those who sacrificed their lives at
war.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS
Today marks the end of our first term. I wish you all a safe, happy and relaxing break and look forward to your
continued support next term.
School Development Day – Term 2 – Tuesday 26 April, 2016
STUDENTS RETURN WEDNESDAY 27 APRIL, 2016
The first day of Terms 1, 2 & 3 are traditionally set aside as School Development Days (pupil free days) for all
public schools in New South Wales. The next School Development Day will be held on Tuesday 26 April, the
first day of next term. The staff will be participating in professional development activities focusing on the
teaching of mathematics.
Toongabbie Public School families have always been supportive of such opportunities for staff professional
development and we appreciate the cooperation.

MOTHERS’ DAY AFTERNOON TEA
Save this date in your diary. The school will be hosting a Mothers’ Day afternoon on Friday May 6th from 34.15pm. A note will go home Week 1, Term 2.
YEARS 3-6 GYMNASTICS
A reminder that Gymnastics will start for students in Week 1. A timetable will be sent home on the first day of
term indicating what day your child will have their lesson. Lessons will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

ROAD SAFETY MESSAGE
Remember to be a positive role model when you are a pedestrian, passenger or
rider. Children learn from what they see as well as what we say. Never sacrifice
safety for convenience.

OC APPLICATION INFORMATION FOR 2017
A note for parents who are interested in applying for an OC position for next year has been sent home to all
Year 4 parents. Opportunity classes cater for high achieving, academically gifted students who may otherwise
be without classmates at their own academic and social level. These schools help gifted and talented students

to learn by grouping them with other gifted and talented students, teaching them in specialised ways and
providing educational materials at the appropriate level.
Applications for opportunity class placement are considered mainly on the basis of the Opportunity Class
Placement Test results and school assessment scores. The Opportunity Class Placement Test will be held on
Wednesday 27 July 2016.
If you would like to have your child considered for Year 5 opportunity class entry in 2017, you need to apply
soon. You will need to apply on the internet using a valid email address (not the student’s email address).
Detailed instructions on how to apply online will be available from 26 April 2016 in a printed application
information booklet and at www.schools.nsw.edu.au/ocplacement The application website opens on 26 April
2016 and closes on 13 May 2016. No late applications will be accepted.
There are no paper application forms. If you do not have internet access, you could apply at a public library. If
you have a disability that prevents you from using a computer, you can contact the Unit for assistance after 26
April 2016.
You must submit only ONE application for each student.
