'I still find it important to see which breed it is that I am judging, since
cat breeding for me is art, it takes talent, patience, and knowledge to be a breeder’
We live on Seeland, Sjælland, which is the island where Copenhagen is located, in a small village with
600 souls about 110 kms from Copenhagen, with five British, three Selkirk Rex longhair, Red Miniature
Pincher dog and my adult son of 26 years.
I have been breeding for 30 years now and I still like the British cat, which also was my first pedigree
cat. Followed by Scottish Fold in 1999 and Selkirk Rex in 2009.
As a breeder, the British is classified as a colour breed here in FIFè, 20 p. for colour and pattern, I have
very early been “forced” to know my colours, how they behave genetically, and which influence the
different genes have on each other.
I started 1st. blue, surprise, 2nd White, 3rd bi colours self, then I have been involved in introducing
colourpoint british to FIFè, and here with also the chocolate, lilac, cinnamon and fawn colours,
with/without white and agouti.
At the moment I am going back to my roots, since I have imported a blue creme lady and now in 2014,
a blue boy. Besides this project I am working with a very good breeder friend in Sweden, we are
working with black golden blotched tabby, why do easy when it is possibly to do difficult.
Then I am also involved in the recognition of the Selkirk Rex in FIFè, and from January the 1st 2015, we
have gained preliminary status, so after the year change we have to show 40 individuals’ tree times
each, obtaining min. EX., and produce 15 litters, for documentation of health issues etc., so we will be
very busy with this next year.
I judge. Last year I had 15 years judging anniversary, which was a mark, which I couldn't picture after
my first examination, I wonder if I will make it to 25 years [smile]. Some breeders in some breeds are
more innovative than others, but I take this as a challenge. I also expect to learn something at each and
every show I attend, since the Judging system in FIFè is built around the dialog between the judge and
the exhibitor/breeder.
My view and expectations has not changed over the years, I still find it important to see which breed it is
that I am judging, but also to see where the breeders are going, since cat breeding for me is art, it takes
talent, patience, and knowledge to be a breeder, and breeding is the foundation for the Judging.

‘my continued interest in the welfare and breeding of healthy, good natured cats
is still a priority through judging and still an immense pleasure to me’
Barbara was introduced to and instantly fell in love with the Burmese breed in 1984 and began breeding
under her Riokay prefix. In 1988 she decided to breed Abyssinians as well. She has also imported
Somalis and bred Burmillas, Tonkinese and Maine Coons. Barbara bred Supreme Exhibit winners in
both Burmese and Abyssinians and has had numerous Best Kitten and Cats of the Year with QFA. She
has twice proudly achieved Group 3 Prefix of the Year with QFA.
Barbara began training with QFA as a Shorthair judge in 1988. After judging for a couple of years she
started training in Longhairs and in 1998 became an All Breeds judge with QFA. She has judged and
continues to do so throughout Australia and New Zealand and has also judged in Kuala Lumpur,
Germany and the Netherlands.
Her continued interest in the welfare and breeding of healthy, good natured cats is still a priority for her
through her judging and still an immense pleasure which she hopes to continue for some years to
come. For 10 years Barbara has been involved with the Qld Companion Animal Management Group
instigated by the Animal Welfare League with the goal of working towards zero euthanasia of unwanted
animals.

As an All Breeds Judge and a teacher of senior secondary
students, I have been privileged to be able to pursue my love
of cats and education.
As I have been part of the cat fancy since childhood showing
at my first show at age 12, I am very keen to encourage
youngsters in showing their cats.
My own breeding of cats have included British, Persian and
Exotic, and ownership has extended from Domestic
Shorthairs to Japanese Bobtails.
I have judged in all over Australia and New Zealand, as well
as in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium, Finland
and Denmark. My administrative roles have included
President of the Cat Association of Tasmania, President of
the ACF (Inc.) Judges' Guild as well as club and show
management positions. It is always a pleasure to share the
knowledge and love of cats at shows.’
